Fist smiled. "Oh no. Actually, I have spys everywhere. In fact. Almost every single hero that has fallen is one of ours. Some of Arachnos as well. In fact, they've totally disabled the hospitals. The people at the Zig are in for trouble. When one dies... they die for good." He laughed his loud, deep laugh as they wayched Sullivan push his button. Nothing happened. He pushed it again. Still nothing. They watched as he stood there cursing. "But this is only the begginning." Fist moved a pawn on the board. Hermes moved a pawn as well. But then Ares took a knight and killed the pawn. Suddenly, on the holographic projector, something came out of the water. It was the Kracken. The giant octopus could apparently go onto land. It swiped at a few heroes, not doing much, but still being an annoyance. With three of its arms, it took hold of a massive tanker and used it as a mace. "The Kracken doesn't look it, but it is as smart as a human." said Fist. "And would you like to enter the battle, Jord?"

Posted

"More than anything." Jord said grimly as she stood. She wanted to crush those idiots. She wanted to destroy those heroes who dared to oppose a goddess. She wanted revenge! She would have it!

Fist smiled his scary smile yet again. Hermes touched his head and some advanced looking equipment floated down. "Put these on." he said, motioning to the metal gloves, visor, and boots. "It will create a solid apperation of you that can enter the battlefield when we hook it up to the screen. This solid hologram of you can feel, taste, hear, and smell. It can also mimic your powers. Try it on. If you don't, the only way to get there will be transporting you via helicopter. And by then, the battle could be over." This left Jord with no choice. Besides, the projector will allow her to feel everything.

Jord looked slightly skeptical, she couldn't see how these worthless pieces of metal could possibly make an accurate copy of her raw power. Still, she wanted to fight, and slipped into them feeling rather ridiculous. She clenched her fist and was surprised the metal didn't turn to powder under her grasp, this equipment was made of tough stuff.

"I feel like a fool. What am I supposed to do now?" she said dryly.

Lord NightBlade waited patiently for the heroes to answer his call, quietly observing the action in the prison yard to the south. Finally, one of the heroes called him and informed him that no one could be spared from the main battle. He hadn't thought of it before, but it made sense. So, he put in a call to the hero liason at city hall and informed her of his plan to regain control inside the prison. She quickly approved and informed him that a M.A.G.I., S.E.R.A.P.H., G.I.F.T., and other hero organizations would organize a task force to aid him. The Navy F-35s were minutes from the Zig and would greatly aid the heroes' progress. Then all hell broke loose.

It happened after an odd looking air transport took off. Arachnos started attacking other Arachnos, Longbow turned on Longbow, and hero attacked hero. Then out of no where, a massive kraken emerged from the open reservoir surrounding the Zig. And something was wrong with the emergency teleporter, critically injured heroes lay dying instead of being whisked to the ICU. "Could I have shorted out the system when I caused the Brickstown blackout? No, impossible, the system has redundancy after redundancy built into it."

Then he heard a voice in his ear. "Lord NightBlade, this is Captain Davidson, mission leader of the F-35s you requested. We are currently inbound, weapons hot. Please advice on targets for attack. Over."
"Captain, there is a kraken that has emerged from the reservoir in the south prison yard, make it your main target of attack. I'm not sure if it is real or holographic so I advise you to begin with a strafing run to assess the target and determine the best method of attack. Over."
"Roger that NightBlade"

Seconds later the 12 F-35s came over the war wall and streaked toward the prison yard, skimming the rooftops of Brickstown. When the kraken was in their sights, the opened up with their Vulcan guns. The depleted uranium slugs hit the kraken, covering it in small wounds, but having little effect other than making the thing even angrier. The fighters were forced to take evasive action as the nightmareish creature began hurling debris and even a hero at them. They would have to use the X-AS missiles against the thing. The missiles were designed to overload the synaptic pathways of the nervous system of superpowered individuals on the battlefield. DARPA tests had shown that they were capable of rendering even the strongest supers unconsious for 24 hours (72 hours when used agains normal people). Captain Davidson and his wingmates each launched an X-AS missile at the kraken, each finding its mark on the beast and flooding its neural pathways with energy. Amazingly, the missiles worked, and the thing was knocked out cold. Lord NightBlade stood dunbfounded, shocked that defeating the kraken would be so easy. Throughout the prison yard the combatants stood and stared at the limp creature equally amazed. The only question was, how long would the kraken remain unconsious?

Goodbye, I guess.

"Just watch." Iron Fist took the small wire attached to the metal suit and attached it to the projector. Immidiately, a holographic image of Jord in full armor appeared on screen. Off screen, Jord was looking through her goggles, mouth slightly agape. She grinned tremendously and the holographic solid hologram of her charged the nearest hero, who had previously been watching the Kracken. Hermes moved a pawn to signify the heroes resistance. Fist soon moved his other knight to kill the pawn. The pawn lost.

((Aw come on! We're almost done. You can win this! I know you can! Iron Fist is just fulfilling his insane sense of humor and revenge here, not much. Of course, you could call this a Bump, but I prefer to call it... er... yeah OK, so it's a Bump.))

The battle resumed when a woman materialized out of thin air. Lord NightBlade could have sworn he'd seen her board the wierd transport earlier... She focused on a hero and began wailing on him and that's when everyone went back to ripping eachothers' throat out. THe kraken was still knocked out cold by the X-AS missiles, but he wasn't sure for how long. "Captain Davidson, I need you to permanently eliminate the kraken threat. Do any of your planes carry conventional high explosive missiles or bombs?"

"Roger that NightBlade, half of the fighters are carrying ordinance with conventional warheads and one is carrying a bunker-buster smart bomb. They are guided missiles and we will need someone to pain the target."

"I copy, Davidson. Stand by for target aquisition."

NightBlade pulled out an extremely high powered laser one of his military subsidiaries was developing to be used in precisely this kind of situation (not blowing up a mythological monster per se, but using it to paint a target for guided missiles). It was still in the test phase since if overpowered, which constituted a AA battery, it leaked intense electromagnetic radiation that could interfere with missile guidance systems. NightBlade activated it and centered the beam on the top of the kraken's head. Seconds later, 6 smart bombs rocketed toward it, a bunker-buster in the lead. They all found their target, the bunker-buster punching a hole in the kraken's armor that let the otehr 5 bombs inside. A huge explosion rocked the Ziggurski to its very foundation and opened a huge crack in the prison reservoir. Little kraken bits rained down on the battlefield and once again everyone stopped to look at the massive crater that used to be the monster.

((OOC: It suddenly occurs to me that my charachter has caused more damage than the Arachnos assault, having accidentaly destroyed the Zig radar station with a dropship, blacked out half of Brickstown by entangling Crab Spiders in high tension powerlines and then killing them by completing the electrical circut, and now blowing a huge hole in the prison yard with F-35s.))

OOC: My bad. Been trying to spawn Caleb.

BIC: Sullivan cursed as the button didn't work, swore when the Kraken appeared, and shouted obscenities when the fighters blew the monster to pieces. Looking around wildly, Sullivan knew this whole operation had just gone [censored].

"All Arachnos and villains! Attention! Retreat to the main entrance of Ziggursky. All sniper teams are ordered to take out any soldier that fires on his own comrades. That is all, may the power of Lord Recluse guide your steps."

Sullivan looked around one last time before retreating and saw someone beating the crap out of a hero. He was about to dismiss her and pull out, but she seemed familiar. Thinking back, Sullivan remembered her getting on a transport with some other men. A little while after that transport left all hell broke loose.

Shoving a scrapper out of the way, Sullivan ran towards Vim while shouting, "Stay where you are, woman! I've got some questions for you!"

Sullivan didn't have much resistance to run through thankfully. Most of the heroes recognized him as the man that had killed quite a few of their number and they pulled away until they could gather their courage to attack him.

OOC: Bagle! Where are you?

(OOC: Sorry, I sleep in really, really late when I've got a three day weekend! )

Jord saw the Wolf Spider Warrior and giggled with glee as she rushed forward, looking intent to knock his head of his shoulders with a single blow. A bunch came faster than most men could possibly counter, but Sullivan wasn't an ordinary man. Bending backwards to allow the blow to sail over him, he used one leg to kick Jord in the stomach, which she hardly felt through her armor. She lifted her other fist to strike him into the ground as he was bent in that awkward position, but a blast of radiation from Sullivan's shivan arm forced her to stumble backwards for a moment, enough time for her adversary to scramble away to a better position.

Jord rushed again, coming on faster than it seemed possible with that armor on, but Sullivan wasn't surprised and already had a mini missle streaking toward her from one of his shoulder pads. Reflexes that seemed impossible to even a super human allowed Jord to grab the missle and throw it behind her, where it smacked into an Arachnos troop with a loud and resounding explosion.

"You're very skilled for a mortal." the goddess laughed with a manical grin, "But I doubt you can keep this up for long!"

In truth, she hoped he could, because this fight was giving her a rush greater than any she had ever known. She struck at Sullivan again, sending him stumbling backwards as she punched his chest with a forced that would liquidize most men's ribs.

OOC: What is the Incarnate AT?

BIC: Sullivan stumbled back from the blow, his advanced armor absrobing much of its strength but still leaving enough to bruise his ribs. Countering, Sullivan stepped forward and slammed his fist into the ground causing a shockwave that through Vim into the air. As she flipped around in the air to land on her feet Sullivan flipped his arm into minigun mode and sent a barrage of slugs streaking toward the demi-goddess.

Some missed, some she dodged, but most of the bullets connected, knocking her off balance so that she hit the ground hard. Sullivan grinned and charged up a radiation blast. But this time, instead of a beam, a ball of super condensed matter formed in the space above his hand. He was sacrificing about half of the Shivan arm's remaining effectiveness by using this attack but if this didn't work, Sullivan didn't know what would.

The green ball streaked toward Vim's hologram.

Jord tried to jump aside, but she wasn't the most graceful of women and the radiation came on too fast. She avoided most of it, but her right arm got nailed and the radiation sunk in, causing her to scream with agony as he muscles seemed to twist themselves. She was going to lose!

Her vision went red, just as before, and she embraced her bloodlust. She ran forward, letting out a wordless howl, and flung herself at Sullivan, her right arm still hanging limp but her left making up for it as she directed a punch at his head, which he backstepped, but she made up for it as she landed and swept her feet out in an arc, knocking Sullivan's legs from under him. He hit the ground hard and Jord leapt into the air once again, spinning several time before straightening and streaking downward with her foot outstreched, planning on driving it through the Wolf Spider Warrior's chest.

((Sorry guys, really and treeibly sorry. It was a rought week at school, two major tests and three projects. -sigh-

Anyways, my computer also went kaput and I forgot my password so I couldn't get onto the forums. I did read some of it though. But I'm back. So, here I go with the catching up, sorry if I miss anything, I only skimmed the posts.))

Rugg growled at Archlich, Pondering what to do with the guy. It was a major nuisence to have two immortals go at it. I mean, they could fight until the end of time. Oh well, he'd do his best.

The berif appearence of a soldier, distracted him berifly, and he eyed the teleportation device sadly. He would of course use it, and destroy as many villians at the appearence spot as he possibly could, but at the moment the tanker couldn't touch the device. The heat of his aura would melt the wiring, and render the object useless.

Ah well. He had bigger things to worry about. Like the fact that Kairaishi had just gone invisible. Well, stealthy, but that was a minor technicality that Rugg was glad to remember.

"What do I use when my sense of sight fail me? Well, my eyes of course."

He chuckled to himself. Many, many heroes and villians forgot some critical information when they went stealthy - or invisible, for that matter. Just because they could avoid the visible spectrum of light, that didn't mean that their mass was in anyway affected. They still left footprints. The grass still bent under their feet. The air still moved as they passed.

They still engaged every sense that a hero could posess - though it was, granted, harder to aim at something you couldn't see.

Rugg decided to try anyways. He stomped his foot, rumbling the earth and unsteadying his opponants for a breif moment. that moment was all he needed. He stormed forward, fire burning in his hair and his horns tilted downward to catch whatever bit of flesh he could. His fists were ready to pound anything he touched. He snorted the sweat out of his nose like a bull would, as he charged to a spot where the grass was percularily dented. He was not ashamed that he could be going in the opposite direction. In fact, he rather expected that he was bearing down on a patch of air.

The real point was that -if- he was heading to the right spot, he'd gore the puny man right through.

((I figured that Rugg couldn't have cared less about what was going on around him. So everyhting's basicly the same.))

Caught unprepared by Ruggaso's stomp, Archlich fell back onto his butt, or what used to be his butt. Then the tanker charged an empty patch of air that turned out to be one of Kairaishi's puppets. The ninja look a like shattered under the initial blow and the ones that followed. Scrambling to his feet, Archlich summoned up his energy and muttered a quick incantation to fire a barrage of energy bolts at the hero.

-------------------------------------------

"[censored]!"

Sullivan hadn't expected Vim to get back up, let alone knock him down again. But at least the spinning in the air gave Sullivan ample time to bring his arm up to block her fall. Amazingly enough, when she landed on his arm she didn't rebound off but instead stayed on top of it and lashed down at him with her working hand curled into a claw.

Throwing her off, Sullivan climbed to his feet and glared at her.

"Who the hell are you working for?" he shouted as he flung another energy blast at her.

FIst was watching the fight via hologram. He was having a very good time. It was nice to be able to just kick back, relax, and kill a few things. Of course, that wasn't his way of saying it. He moved his knight to a place where nobody could get him. "Check." Hermes moved his King out of the way, but there was still more to come...

((Physic and Hidden, on the other hand, have to deal with hell. And excuse the grammar and spelling - I'm not using Word today.))

Physic was tuned into the hero frequency when everything went to hell. She almost forgot the block the punch that came at her head, but she ducke at the last minute and sent a moderate uppercut into the Arachnos soldier's jaw. His teeth cracked together and he reeled backward. She slipped into the crowd for some privacy.

It took her a full minute to come to the realisation of what was happening. She tuned her dial to the specialty channal, and spoke urgently to Hidden.

"Something's up - They've got some confusion rays. Everyone's turning on each other. Heroes are falling to heroes."

HIdden responded immediatly, his voice panicked and rushed.

"The hospitals were destroyed. medi-porters down. Heroes did it. I've got one on the other frequency, I'll patch you through."

Physic ducked behind a handy rock and pressed herself against it. She watched two Arachnos fighting each other, and then one of them fell, a bullet through his brain. Sniper. The thoughts loomed like grey clouds, about to part and show her the light, but...

"Are you the leader? We have problems. Heroes are going bezerk, they killed a lot of us. They aren't confused, they're following someone's orders -"

It clicked. She let a strangled moan, a picture forming in her mind's eye. The fish-thing. A vehicle. Iron Fist. Insane man. Christ. But the poor hero on the radio kept going.

"I've got as many supplies as I can carry, there's three more with me. The others - they're searching. They'll find us soon. Help! Oh god, they heard us. Please-"

Physic did what she did out of reflex. She concentrated on the hero's voice, ignoring the shrieks and sounds of battle that now filtered over the line. The hero appeared beside her, in the battle stance, and blinking in confusion. he choked out, "Help the other three!" and a second hero appeared beside him.

Then the third, and the forth. They were in progressivly bad state, and Physic demanded an energy booster form the first one. She grimaced as she saw it was in a epi-pen-style syringe, but that also ment that it was more powerful. She stabbed it into her leg, and immediatly gelt the difference.

HIdden was teleported to her side.

"Heal them. Scan the datafiles, tell me the names of as many healers as you can find in Paragon who are of security clearence."

Hidden emmited healthy radiation, modified the bodies of the nearby heroes to regenerate faster, filled them with energy. Then he checked the list.

"Lenient Star, Orange Beret, Healer126, Giver of Life, Blue Giver, Terrence the Great and Relife."

"Notify them that we need their help, tell me when you get the answer. Stealth me first, I'll be back."

Physic felt the coldness melt over her body, the feeling that resuluted from the lack of light hitting her body. It had been proven that if a person remained invisible for extended periods of time, they could develop mild hypothermia. This wasn't the in the top ten of worry-faactors for Physic.

He took a handful of the needles and vials, and whisked off to hand out the goods. She informed every hero she came across of the severe problems. Many of them shuddered. One or two promptly teleported away, presumably back to Paragon. She didn't blame them.

Hidden came though. "Five of them agreed to come, they are prepared for teleportation."

Physic smiled grimly to herself, and pulled the five heroes across the ocean, downing two vials of energy in between concentration.

She breifed them quickly, instructed them to aid every hero they came across, but if they became hostile to incapaciate them and mark them as spies.

Physic then waded into the sea of heroes, perring around, noticing somethign was missing. The Arachnos soldiers had retreated - it was only the rogue heroes that they w re fighting, and a small handful of soldiers.

She shuddered with guilt, and went to take care of one of the rogue controllers who was pulling down with ice attacks.

The tanker got tangled in a mess of invisible wood, fabric and porcelin, which promptly caught fire. He staggered back as the very air seemed to burn, emmiting a streak of black smoke into the air. He didn't even see Archlich's attack until it hit him in the chest.

He felt a vague sort of pressure, and watched as part of his rock chest crumbled away. Ruggaso grunted indifferently - eventually the bits of rock he had lost would find its way back to his body. Maybe even within the next year. That would be nice.

But now that he was filled with pride and luck, he turned his horned head to stare at the skeleton. His eyes glared with a deadly power. None of this " If looks could kill" crap, because Rugg knew dead well that a single loock could kill a man. Unortunatly, he had not quite mastered this skill, and usually all that happened was that the victim got a mild headache and a nosebleed.

Apparently skeletons couldn't get nosebleeds, so Rugg made one last effort to avoid the ineveidble.

"Have you ever seen the Pirates of the Carribean?"

The question was perhaps random on the surface, but Rugg rarely waster critical moments in the middle of a fight chatting about blockbuster hits and famous actors. (however handsome and incredible they are.)

There had been one scene that had intreguied him, and he thought it would apply to the situation. Then again, if the walking pile of bones didn't watch much film then Rugg would have to make his point in another fashion.

With the threat of the kraken eliminated, Lord NIghtBlade wasn't sure who the next target should be. With the strange and seemingly random betrayals in the ranks of the Arachnos, Longbow, and heroes it was hard to determine who the real enemy was. The still loyal Arachnos had retreated into the prison and fromed choke points and fortefied positions to hold back their betrayers. The heroes and Longbow began forming defensive formatons and were gradually linking up with each other. He told the F-35s to patrol Paragon's airspace and shoot down any hostile aircraft attempting to reach the prison.

He spotted the Wolf Spider Warrior fellow just as he began fighting the strange woman who materialized earlier. The Warrior was responsible for the deaths of many heroes and NightBlade could use the distraction of his current battle to stick his katana in the soldier's back and end the threat he represented. But then he wouldn't get answers from the mysterious woman. Deciding the best course of action would be to help Wolf Spider Warrior first, NightBlade flew toward the struggle. As he neared, he heard Warrior shout, "Who the hell are you working for?" He flew to position himself on Warrior's right. Before he arrived, he threw his last shuriken at the woman, more as a sign to warrior that he was interested in helping him fight her. THe shuriken lodged itself in the woman's right thigh, and NightBlade landed next to Wolf Spider Warrior, blade drawn.

Archlich made a noise that would have ordanarily been a snort.

"Do not ask questions of your betters, worm." Archlich replied, followed by a more concentrated form of the energy barrage. This time is was a solid beam of magical force that cut at Ruggaso's hide.

Physic had been reletivly closed to the battle as she tried to sort out the major problems. Now she was exposed to the gruesome details of the scene. It pained her that she couldn't help each individual hero, but that she could only try to keep the mass of them more-or-less alive. She saw one of the heroes she had transported in resuresting a stocky blaster. Orange Berret winked at her, tipped his orange headgear, and rushed off to raise another hero, injecting both a blue- and orange-tinted liquid into his body as he did so.

A few feeble shields were glowing over the field, and a good deal of smoke and haze drifted around her feet. Physic saw that the section of field she was in was clear of trouble, so she pressed on.

The Wolf-Spider-Warrior-guy was still there, she was surprised to see. She had thought that he would have retreated with the others. He was fighting a woman, who seemed vaguely familiar to Physic, but it could just be a common face. There was a hero among them, and Physic frowned.

Two supervillians against one Hero? That didn't seem right at all. She Manuvered closer to the trio, prepared to intervene and even out the odds if things got messy. In the meantime she took a few bullets to her stomach - re-opening the wound form the very beginning.

Physic Defiance gasped as it was a blaster who had hit her, a slim female holding a hulking machine gun. Physic flashed her the middle finger and lept into the air, immediatly holding the woman in place with the help of dense gravity, and then stealing some of her energy to repair the damage to her body.

She fought against her own kind with a closed mind.
