Good stuff, Vox. I like how you presented it.

Very nice Vox.

To restate other people, thank you Vox! Inventions are still shaky for me, so this will help not only my Invul/SS/ tank, but also my spines/invul herding scrapper! Great and detailed points to not only use, but as a basis for further reading! For those unaware of the site, I encourage checking out Paragon Wiki for some good detailed information on sets.

Something I haven't noticed (maybe I missed it). Invincibility is also your taunt aura. HIGHLY useful, especially in light of Gauntlet's repeated borkage.

You're right, I forgot to mention that in my original guide. Just another reason why it's a must have power!

Thanks for bringing that up!

Mini-Update

In case you haven't heard: the aura attached to the Impervium Armor Psi Resist IO has been removed in Issue 10 (currently on Test)!

Also, I thought I'd mention a small change I've made to my Issue 9 build I posted above. After playing around with different set ideas, I decided to remove the fourth slot I added to Flight at level 40, and add a fourth slot to Unstoppable instead.

My only reason for that fourth Flight slot was to have a slot for the "Freebird" Endurance IO, and get the 8% Regen bonus. So I've gone with three common Flight IOs instead, dropping the Regen bonus.

I've used the fourth slot I added to Unstoppable for the Steadfast Protection Unique IO: Resistance/Defense. I put it there because I didn't want to break up any sets I already have in other Resist powers, and also because Unstoppable doesn't really need a Resistance boost, so it doesn't matter what level of IO you get. Heck, put a level 10 in there. The 3% Defense bonus that comes with it is always on, whether you have Unstoppable running or not.

Comments? Questions?

This is great stuff, thank you Vox.

Does slotting Kinetic Combat in the melee attacks gimp their damage/acc/recharge? Or do Kinetic Combat IOs go up to lvl 50 as well.

[/ QUOTE ]

No. It won't. Even though Kinetic only goes up to Lvl 35, it won't "gimp" you.
The enhancements slotted in a power the way Vox mentioned here (this is with 4 Level 30 Kinetic Combat and 2 Level 30 Pounding Slugfest Set IOs) work out to:

43.50% Acc boost
126.15% Damage boost (ED knocks this down to 98.92%)
60.90% End boost
39.15% Rech boost

Again, this with ALL of the IOs in Kinetic and Pounding at Level 30.

If you slotted even level SOs of

1 ACC
1 END
1 RECH
3 DAM

The enhancements would work out to:

33% Acc boost
99% Damage boost (ED knocks this down to 94.93%)
33% End boost
33% Rech boost

+3 SOs bring ACC, END, and RECH up to 38.30% and the 3 DAM go up to 114.89% (ED knocks this down to 97.23%)

So...at Level 27 (assuming you could amass everything) you will have an attack that is more powerful percentage wise that you could have ever slotted in the Post ED world. You could slot with these IOs AND NEVER REALLY NEED TO UPGRADE THEM EVER AGAIN.

You can't match Vox's numbers with standard SOs.

Yes but SOs are not really the standard anymore. What I'm really asking I guess is 'is there a noticable difference between the set of 50 lvl. Crushing Impact and lvl 30 Kinetic Combats and Slugging Poundfests?'

Damage-wise, I don't think the difference is very noticable due to ED, but with level 50 Crushing Impacts Acc/End/Rech all get up near 70%. So that's better, but only really noticable on a power like KO Blow (because of its long recharge.)

If maxing out your Accuracy, Damage, etc. is more important than set bonuses, then definitely go with Crushing Impact (plus it has great set bonuses of its own), but honestly I don't think you'll feel any less effective with lower level sets. Also, with lower level sets, you can exemplar down and still have their bonuses.

thanks Vox. Thats exactly what I needed to know.

SOs are still the standard. That is what the game was, and still is, balanced against. If IOs ever become the standard the game is balanced against, all of the casual players will be the ones that are "gimped".

I guess we have different meanings for "gimp". You can be as good as a 50 used to be at 27. You can be loads better when you get to 50.

Per the Devs, IO participation is supposed to be completely optional.

A full set of Lvl 50 Crushing Impacts would net out to:

68.9% Acc boost
143.10% Damage boost (ED knocks this down to 101.47%)
68.9% End boost
68.9%Rech boost

Obviously better, but you would expect that Lvl 50 IOs would be better than Lvl 30 IOs.

I thought I would post some Invention-based builds, using Mid's Hero Designer (which is a great program, check it out!) So if you're stuck trying to decide on what IOs to focus on, hopefully these ideas can help.

Note that in my builds I will just have three Common Heal IOs in Health, but I would actually recommend the "Big Three" Unique IOs be put in there- Regenerative Tissue: +Regen, Numina's Convalescence: +Regen, +Recovery, and Miracle: +Recovery. I've left these out for two reasons: 1) To give a better idea of the +Regen and +Recovery bonuses from the build without these IOs skewing the results, and 2) Because they're really expensive and you'll probably put off getting them until very last (if at all.)

First up is what I call the "Force Tank" build, as it uses plenty of Reactive Armor and Kinetic Combat IOs. The Force Tank specializes against the most common attack types in the game: Smashing, Lethal and Energy, with only small bonuses against the more exotic attack types. And as with all my Invention builds, there is a lot of +Regeneration bonuses.

Next up is a build I call the "Devastator", so named because it focuses on the main bonuses found in the Devastation Set: Regeneration, Damage, and Psionic Defense. The Devastator Tank has only small bonuses to most damage types, but huge increases to Psionic attacks, both Defense and Resistance. This is also a very offensive build: not only is there +19% in Damage bonuses, several attacks have a 20% chance at doing extra damage.

The guides are very helpful, thanks for the ideas!

One thing - I don't know what you're doing to your posts from Mids, but they can't be imported back into Mids! It could be version differences or something, but if you're cutting off anything that appears to be unreadable, please put it back in!

Thanks again,

I was looking at the 3 builds and was goig nto mod the Reinforced to make Nala but i'm still confused ofer all the io stuff. Don't supose you coudl help me make a build that maximises defense. I don't mind have a lot of attacks 2 or 3 is fine (not including Rage which is a must!)

fly and hover

Great guide, Vox. I used it when Havok's guide became obsolete and I'm using your updated I9 info to pimp out my Tank. I may not be flying (SJer here) but I'm already salivating at the prospect of 311% regen.

Hey folks! Thanks to everyone who checked out my guide, I hope it helped your enjoyment of the game. Looks like some changes are coming to Invulnerability with Issue 13, plus we're getting new message boards!

Look for my all-new SuperTank guide on the new boards once Issue 13 is live!

Best toon I ever had! Thanks for the guide.

You pay to play. Having fun is ok. Kill Skuls or kill Crey. Hunt at night or in the day. Black or white or shades of grey. Play it your way. We have no say.

GOOD JOB, VOX POPULI

Well wriiten information with a strong emphasis on personal experience. I have attempted various super heroes, only to have them go Pfffffffft! after the 23 level. So re-read the leveling table and designed a growth chart for my 8'4" flying Tanker and it worked! I am currently at level 26, working to 27. The Middle range of Enhancements really made a difference and for this character i had to Respec twice, but I have a Hero who can derfeat most of what he meets. I still have RAGE, The Earth Ancillary Power sets and Laser Eyes to get, but since i just crossed the halway point have plenty of time to work any problems out.

My character, Samson Moses started out a loner and joined a group at level 23. It's called 'death to all', but I have yet to do any team adventures and part of this is because the levels are so widespread. I also am the only one online the past few days and hopefully that will change.

Again you did a great job on building a super tanker,
thanx,

Samson Moses
