Having Trouble RPing Away a Game Mechanic?

Ironically in mission things, or in combat things that could feasibly be rped. Nothing like getting a "((Okay, let's go find the boxes we need to get))" in an rper group... so what is everyone doing in that warehouse to begin with?

I have yet to run into anyone rp'ing to be honest! 
Anyway...rp'ing around the costume is fairly easy, in my humble opinion.
*You created your own and you are still working on your next design. If asked about washings, here is your reply..."Yes, i washed it, its why i was gone this morning between 8am and 10am (server down)...it was at the cleaners!"
Bcast is easy...ignore it or turn it off....everything you need in an rp group will pretty much be within that group. Unless of course you get disconnected because of server repairs, but then come on, who logs off before they are tossed anyway?
I guess one of the big mech probs I see that may be hard to get around is AoE powers that dont affect your party. Mind you, I understand the reasoning and am nto in any way complaining, just saying its hard to explain why a grenade affects the two criminals standing by you but you are unaffected.

Anyway..whatever I cant explain away in rp....I simply ignore! Didnt happen, cant prove to me it did!

Why do the contacts never move? I mean come on, they have to stink by now!
Why do criminals carry around so many enhancements for things they dont use?
How come you go on two missions but use the same door?
What exactly are those pink force fields between cities....further-more...why are they sooooo...pink?
How come I can run faster when I get a better vid card!? lol...
Anyway...not really wondering or worried about these things, just tossed them in for fun and laughs. The servers are great to the eye, and fun to play within.
If you are looking for a scrappy rp scrapper, or brainy Controller...please look up Grim Iron or Dr Sanction!

This was actually on my mind today. It doesn't bug me so much while I'm playing, but when I try to write fanfic about my characters it's kind of irritating as of late -- since the Holiday Rocket Pack.
How does my Technology character control things like the Holiday Rocket Pack, Raptor Pack, Cryocite Armor, etc.? He's got a suit of power armor with its own computer systems, and those systems really have to be secure given the Rikti, Freakshow, Council, etc. level hackers out there who might want to hijack his systems. So, when Miss Liberty drops a rocket pack on me, or I buy one in Siren's Call, how do those controls suddenly show up on his (my) interface (power bar)?
Does the Freedom Corps or D.A.T.A. insist that my equipment have a backdoor for their systems? Does their hardware have some completely open API my systems can automatically tap into for use? What's going on here?
For the purposes of goofing around, I tend to handwave and say that the Holiday Rocket Packs, courtesy Portal Corps by way of Miss Liberty, just have some kind of übertech A.I. that hacks and updates my systems. However, when it comes to someone like Utilitarian -- who is my own personal Tony Stark, and thou shalt have hold no technologist above Tony Stark -- I dislike the idea any heroic operation has that kind of access to his armor.

My own take on two items in this thread - Broadcast is definitely an OOC channel and I treat it as such (same for all Global Chat channels). I usually remove Broadcast from my Chat tab so it never gets mixed up with Local.
Talking tactics in ((OOC talk)) during a mission is a conevniant shorthand. IC, what's happening is that the team is discussing the best plan of attack or saying "Okay, we need to find those drugs/art objects/secret files". Putting it in OOC talk just saves time from having to use the character's own voice.
Personally, I can't really think of anything that I find particularly jarring towards RP. I can always go with the flow and RP around things. Heck, I sometimes make little jokes that play on the unrealistic aspects of the game, like the one time I invited a friend's character to the team, chose a mission and RPed a conversation over Team chat on the way to the door. When I got to the part where we agreed to help each other out, I said "Well, I have a lead on a possible Lost base in the sewers right here where we just happen to be standing.".

What straps? I've never seen a strap.
In fact, I assumed the pack was from Portal Corps, because the lack of straps seem to imply some kind of localized gravity manipulation.

Hmm... possibly, across the various origins, how -end powers have their effects. Holds, stuns, sleeps (especially as many of those are treated as 'fragile holds') I can rationalize against the Clockwork, the Rikti, and the Tsoo equally well. But the same relative lost to your reserves whether you're a mage or a big freaking robot?

They are complete impassable as far as is known. As for why they're pink? Statesman's favorite color is pink, everyone knows that.

Oh Yea the big server drops. Ugh It always happens right in the middle of those really hard missions when your sk'ing some one. Well I decided that our Emergency Medical Transport Devices have been damaged 
and sometimes you get grabbed and then the unit reactivates dropping you at the door. 
But oh what a pain.

The most trouble I have with RPing is when someone is taking an uber-long time to zone.
But we usually joke about it, saying that "the door has bested yet another teammate, what a foul fiend!"

On Pinnacle, we've got a big group - RPCongress.com, we're the ones that almost crashed the server having over 400 hundred in the park beside skyway tram for a job fair.

I chalk these up to, you are hitting the target, not your team mates, plus there is the fact that one can jump up and fire, as blasting away with guns -through- your teammates is not quite plausible. You just do it.

Actually, what bugs me is that I go to a dingy first floor apt in a bad part of town (more like a motel than an apt really), enter the door and find myself in a very spacious and modern multi-story buisiness office -- one that by no stretch of the imagination could ever have fit into the physical confines of the building, much less the single room flat, I just entered....

Super Jump on a MA scrapper/stalker.
I mean.. legs that are powerful enough to propel you over buildings... should knock other humanoids through most walls, right?
I ended up RP'ing "catlike bounding abilities" on my scrapper, and 'movie wirework' for my stalker. She jumps up onto things just like the actors in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon... don't tell HER it's all effects, she won't believe you.

Oh yeep, this thread brought up another couple of my "what the huh?" points. I never could figure out why my AE burns would toast heck out of everybody but my friend who was standing right next to me.
The other one is clearing out a base, calling the mission in, then being sent RIGHT BACK IN to clear out the next shift, apparently. Like they're on a time-share or something as was suggested here.
I'm not sure how I'll explain those in KIPs, but I tell you, I scent a challenge here...

My biggest hurdle is having to pick powers that don't fit my character. I HAVE to choose a power from what is provided but if none of them are what my toon would have I pick something and then bury it and not use it. Biggest challenge is having a NATURAL and wanting a travel power. Thats kind of hard to get around.
Or having a completely logical power for a NATURAL but when I turn it on I glow?
So here I am, watching goofy TV and trying to get a head start on next month's Knowledge Is Power tips submission. I'm making up a list of game mechanics for which I'd like a better in-game explanation, and then I think to myself, "Hey self, why don't you check with the other RPers, see what they've been thinking?"
So I'm asking you -- what game mechanic do you find it REALLY hard to RP around? Personally, I don't like the time limit between costume changes -- what, am I having trouble with my zipper? And how come minions can jump like three times as high as me? I wanna buy shoes where they shop...
