CoH Binder
OK, what the heck is it?
For $35.00 ($24 discounted) it better be something more than just a 3-ring binder with a fancy cover.
Wait a minute. This might be for the CoH table top RPG.
It's by Prima, which isn't the company that is doing the RPG, they are the one's who did the guide though.. I dunno.

We all know how fabulous and right on the money the guide was. I feel all goose-pimply just thinking of how it made my game play so much better.
/sarcasam, if you didn't know.
I am guessing this will be the new version of the guide incorporating the core CoH guide, all content released in Issues and CoV.
Ahh! And it's in binder format since they already know it'll be wrong and this way you can pull out the useless pages!
Yep, this is the new, improved, and updated CoH Strategy guide. The one which Cryptic spent a lot more time personally overseeing, since they were so unhappy with the original Prima guide.
Lookie here.....
CoH Prima Guide
CoV Prima Guide
Sounds really nice. Pre-ordered both of mine via ebgames yesterday.
But my question is in the content. The CoH description mentiones that updates includes CoH and CoV material. The CoV guide seems to be only that, CoV. So what does this mean? I can get the CoH binder and have a guide for both CoH and CoV? Some clarification on that part would help my purchasing decision.
Also, if someone could answer this, the "update packets" are sent periodically or is this something we have to purchase?
Is there a '2 in 1' package deal for those who wish to buy both?

Did they say when it was coming out? I'd be interested in the COV one but I'm not too keen on pre-ordering. TIA.
We should have some info on the Prima Binders on the site shortly (though it may not be much more than you've found) - I'll see if I can't track down some answers to these questions.

Let's be honest. What do people really buy these guides for. There are only two things that guides are generally used for. The base numbers of powers and some background information on NPC's.
Now, the background information is in the game. That's why we do missions, read plagues around the city, talk to NPC's, listen to citizens as they walk by etc.
This leaves the base numbers on powers. Ok, tell me again why the devs don't want to give out base numbers again? Oh, that's right. They don't want this game to become a "numbers cruncher." Sorry ED did that in spades.

Wasn't powergaming one of the reasons for ED? Ya know, to keep people from utilizing the most effective cookie cutter builds? What the hell?
As far as I'm concerned the best and most uptodate guides are right here on the forums.* Sure the search engine sucks, and sure there's a lot of misinformation... there's also whining and doom calling... people also can be rude sometimes... um, why am I not buying these again? j/k (or am I )
Seriously though, I much rather get info from these forums than some $30 binder.
*So do I get a cookie for kissing [censored] to the entire forum population?
I still use the old CoH Prima guide for DO and SO enhancement names and the maps for store locations (mainly for which origin is where). Yes, I know I could use Vidiot Maps, but I'm stuborn.
But still I fear and still I dare not laugh at the madman!

Ya, me too .. unless you're a mutant the names of the Enhansments (DOs and SOs) is pretty obscure ...
I was thinking that it might be cool to get just for the actual binder itself (you know to put printed copies of the guides from the forums in and any misc. info that might collect) but at a MSRP of $34.99 it's kinda steep for just that.

I used mine for maps till Vidiot came along. Also handy for villain reistances. Not a good guide by any stretch of the imagination, but those 2 bits were useful. Hopefully the new guide will be more useful.

Just an FYI, I checked my EB order status and the CoV manual shipped today (10/27), so I will be receiving it shortly. The CoH manual has an expected ship date of 10/28 according to EB. Guess I will see about that one tomorrow

Well, if this is what we thought ED was supposed to be about, we would just be kidding ourselves.
Not to turn this into an ED debate thread, but many players will always go towards builds that work best. That is why we post AT specific guides on the forums.
Regardless of system implemented, cookie cutter builds will always exist. We know this and the devs know this. The devs did not design ED to prevent this sort of thing, because it is something that cannot be prevented. ED was designed with a balance motivation in mind. One that reduces a wide variance in values to a much more narrow range of values. This will make balancing efforts much easier for the content they have planned for us (like the end-game content they are currently designing). Such content would have been a joke to balance with the old system.
Is ED the correct solution for the balancing issues? Don't really want to debate that in this thread, but I guess we will see very soon. All I know is that ED was not designed to stop players from gravitating towards the most efficient build that the system will permit.
I'm curious if these guides will include the base values for the secondary effects of a power, that might be worth the money.
Hey folks,
[more info from Prima added]
Some questions were asked early on and I said I'd try to find out some more info. So this is what I found out:

1. There is one binder per game (COH & COV) - so the CoH won't have much if any CoV material. However, when Prima publishes update packs for the binders, the packs will include any updates for both CoH and CoV at that time. The update packs will only include either new pages, or pages that need updating to replace existing pages in the binders.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, if someone could answer this, the "update packets" are sent periodically or is this something we have to purchase?
[/ QUOTE ]
2. Updated packs will be sold at retail. So, instead of forcing everyone to buy a new guide as soon as something is updated, they will only have to buy a less expensive pack which allows them to replace pages that need updating, and/or add in the new pages.
Also, they might make new packs available for download (for a charge).
PRIMA:
The Issue Update Packs will coincide with the release of new game Issues and will be available at retail and online (at cov.primagames.com and coh.primagames.com). These packs will include the new Issue content for both CoH and CoV. Also, be sure to check back at cov.primagames.com and coh.primagames.com for free Patch Notes (updates) to print at home and add to your guide.

[/ QUOTE ]
3. Is there a 2 in 1 deal - not sure on this. We'll ask Prima, however, this might be something that the retailers control.
PRIMA: Apparently several retailers are running discounts for each of the binders that give you money off each binder separately. None of them currently have any "bundle" discounts for purchasing both binders together.

CoH Binder
Interesting...
I have several binders stuffed with player's guides and such. I could probably fill up 2 or 3 of these.
They're also coming out with a CoV binder too.
