Chilling Embrace and how Ice Tanks were Duped

*wonders if they ever play the game*

I am absolutely convinced that they don't. Not the same game we do anyway.
Oh sure Statesman will come on with a random anecdote about how he played a bubbler in croatoatoatoa or somesuch, but do you think they play on actual servers much? After the 'regen video' debacle and other assorted stupidity I've been coming to the conclusion that they only play in their own private environment - a flawed one at that.
This is a development team that stated 'playing a regen set where instant healing and integration are mutually exclusive is more FUN' - during the same update where they remove mutual exclusivity from many power sets to make them functional.
This is a development team that states that 'defense is more powerful than resistance', and then brazenly releases base resistance inspirations that are only a fraction of the strength of their base defense counterparts.
This is a development team that touts the arena as the sole new content of an issue but makes specific pains to ensure that certain players can't make use of it other than as punching bags to anyone with an accuracy buff.
This is a development team that asks its player base to test changes, but then calls specific players liars when they note a particular change that has been made - and later decide it was just a 'undocumented adjustment' without apologizing.
This is a development team that says that it's watched powers used AS DESIGNED for FIFTEEN MONTHS and state with a snicker that they never intended them to be used in this way.
Lord help us when the next rounds of global game upheaval and the subsequent obfuscations and incoherent babble about a vision of mediocrity come around.
I can appreciate a good lie when it's at least given to me with style, but there's only so much I can really put up with.
well said.

Agreed.
Virtue: multiple characters.
CoH/V: Woot! Maybe Fun is to be had once again.
Ack! RUN! Regen is glowing mean & green!
If it reduces you, it's a nerf.
If it buffs the mobs, it's challenge.
They are not the same.

They don't.
Yeah, that was my first thought on seeing the CuppaJo news too.
I'm like "OMG...someone really thought it was a good idea to have the developers playing an entirely different game from the players since March 2005!"
Jesus H. Christ NCSoft is lucky I want to play a hero, or I'd give these bums the boot. I really, really thought their ideas couldn't get much worse too....they've been working on this idiotic system for months too. If you thought the major nerfs and stuff from I5 was extreme, wait till they try to implement this crap. I will be taking another 3 month absence then as well, while they sort that crap out.
The ironic here is that we were joking in the Regen Lounge that the only thing they haven't wrecked yet was hasten/stamina and quick recovery - whooops.
Yeah, that never occured to me, but there goes perma-hasten and six-slotted stamina too.
Crap.
Yep. Anything you can run to be at least minimally useful / functional in the issue 5 team environment is going away. Hence my suggestion that we may as well do away with existing powers and archtypes now, and go with what Statesman wants.
Just replace all powers with 'attack', 'defense' and 'travel'. Initially you can have color and effect changing options but eventually Statesman will say that he doesn't like the player having options in this, so they will be replaced.
Which is perfect, because that'll produce the perfect world for PVP equality. Which is what Statesman apparently wants - ironically the opposite of what he said himself in the past. Welcome to City of Suck, Statesman style.
But why stop there? Get rid of costume options while you're at it, that'll truly make this like a quake MMO - just with worse graphics. Of course then to attain true 'balance' you'll have to apply mounting debuffs to players with actual skill so they can't outplay those who suck at PVP.
Or Jack could explain why he's been lying about this for the last six months while we tested out only part of this ridiculous vision of mediocrity on the test server. Or to be relevant to this thread, he could just explain WHY HE HATES ICE TANKERS SO MUCH.
Anyone with half a brain can see this won't even let them function solo, much less on a team, and definitely not as an actual tanker.

Its not hate. Its FEAR.
Time to make the "Enhancement Diversification, and how everybody got duped!" thread.
I do have a flair for dramatic subjects for threads
Remember "Taunt and the Law of Unintended Consequences"
Anyway, I just wish the devs had the guts to give us all the numbers and not just some of them. After all I have to ask what good is knowing the effectiveness of enhancements in the enhancement screen if we don't know the base values it affects.

Corallary to that...what good is it to have the enhancement tell you how much good it'll do you if you still have to add a slot to the power before you can know how much good it'll do you?
Is there any change the devs consider that DOESN'T require contant respecs?

Well... fair point, I also just pointed out, that since the amount your enhancements boost an aspect of a power is only half the equation, what good are those numbers without knowing the base? I think they're practically worthless to be quite honest.
[ QUOTE ]
what good are those numbers without knowing the base?
[/ QUOTE ]
They still don't want people knowing the base values of powers, but because they have now changed how, and almost if, enhancements actually benefit you when they are slotted, they are giving you the enhancement numbers before and after slotting a new enhancement, or replacing one enhancement with another, so you know what the incremental benefit or deficit is, so people cannot claim they are not making an informed decision when slotting.
It is, of course, a very dubious distinction that there's no way for a player to know whether they can benefit from a *slot* before they add it, but the devs are walking a fine line: in a deep, fundamental sense, the devs have two incompatible requirements on their game design: they don't want people to be able to precompute what things will do before they actually do them, but they do want people to know in advance if they will do something beneficial.
On the surface, you might think that those two have some chance of being compatible, but once you start thinking about how to define the word "beneficial" you begin to see there isn't likely to be one.

I haven't cleaned all those guns yet. You may hurt yourself. Or someone else. Oh well. Just bring them back when your done, or not. I really just don't mind right now although I seem to remember that there is supposed to be a reason for me to care.

Nothing to worry about though.
Say, did you want ammo? I keep it under the bed. I can help you get it if you want. Doesn't matter though.

No thanks. I already know how this party ends, and I now have a rule about waking up in the same county as my underwear.
Well, its more of a guideline than a rule, but its still good advice.

That's funny, I've got a rule about you NOT waking up in the same country as your underwear.

So, instead of addressing the overall problem, which is that buffed/enhanced powers make most debuffs irrelevant, the devs addressed a particularly egregious example. Storm Defenders, for instance, pointed out that Snow Storm debuffed their speed more than the target's speed b/c of suppression. We whined enough about a particularly bad effect that it got changed. I think that's what it takes.
