No character transfer option?
Ummmm doesn't seem too clever to me...
...surely people in Europe interested in a Hero MMOG have already downloaded CoH and are playing it?
I know that's what I did.
I sure as heck won't fork out cash for a game I already play...and would have to start from scratch with again.
I just hope there are enough potential new customers to justify the expense of the new hardware, staff etc

I'm afraid that the serial codes for the European version of City of Heroes won't work with the US client - neither will US serial codes (from the US DVD edition, for example) work with the European version.
[/ QUOTE ]
So I've got to order my DVD edition from the U.S.? Stuff that! (UK player)
Is Mr Bridger (Noel Coward) from the original "Italian Job" film any relation?
[ QUOTE ]
Bridger, will the european players currently playing the US game be able to transfer their characters or not?
I thnk many players are waiting for a good solid reply on that matter.

My apologies if you've missed my previous posts and our FAQs on the European website. The short answer is 'not at the moment'. We're looking into it, and if anything changes I'll let you know.
If I cant transfer my Toons i'll be staying in the US, anyone else?
Or will we be forced to move to the Eu servers???
You can copy Toons from the Live US servers to the test server, cant the copy tool be changed to work from Live to Live???

Of course they could do this....but I guess they hope some fools shell out for the Euro version as well as the one we are already playing.
Some people will no doubt have friends (who haven't already got CoH) who buy the Euro version when it hits the shelves and they hope you're willing to pay £25 (or whatever) to play with your friends.
I'm staying on the servers I already have chars on...not a snowball's chance in hades that I'll buy another copy just to start from scratch on a Euro server.
British pounds are worth more than dollars so $15 would only be around 8 pounds.... not 25

Yep, same here. Justice has been working great for me (I live in north-eastern europe), so there'd be no performance gains. However, I have ja job and a spouse, so my free time is precious to me, and due to the RL factors, my playstyle is very casual. The prospect of losing the hundreds of hours I have put into my characters is horrible. I just can't be bothered to replay my characters from scratch to where they are now. It would be an annoying chore. Since my free time is in short supply, I refuse to spend it in a way that's not fun. If NCSoft/Cryptic would restrict the US servers for US residents, forcing EU residents to start anew on EU servers, I'd probably move to WoW for good.
However, I love CoH and I'd rather play in a EU server (for the comic etc.). I also have plenty of disposable income, so money is not an issue. The only thing that keeps me in Justice is that my characters are there.
I can understand (and appreciate) the no character transfers policy. It's just a policy though, not a major technical issue, and my opinion is that an one-time deal for EU residents moving to the EU servers is in order.
I think the 25 pound more would be for purchasing a "Euro" version of this game (around $50) to be able to enter the european servers.
For me, I wil not buy another version of the game, and then (if I want to keep my characters I have right now on the US servers) even have to pay monthly fee for both accounts... !
Virtue: Alter Mann Controller Ill/Rad/Psi, Eisstahl Tanker Ice/Ice/Arctic
Justice: Lord Proton Brute EM/Elec/SM, ADAM-3 Mastermind Robot/FF/Charge
Liberty: Captain Transylvania Tanker Dark/Dark/SM

No one will be forced to move. If you're happy on the US servers, by all means keep playing there.
Ok, I came across this article on the PlayNC website,
http://support.plaync.com/cgi-bin/plaync.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?<?%20print("p_sid=$p_sid&p_lv a=$p_lva&p_li=$p_li")%20?>&p_faqid=1153 &p_created=1100010918
and am quite confused. From reading these forums I was under the impression that we could transfer for free at anytime, just that we wouldn't be able to bring our characters along with us. Is the PlayNC statement true? If so I fear City of Heroes is going to lose many current European subscribers, who were not informed of this before purchase

Actually, there are technical and security issues concerning moving characters from the US servers to the European ones. We are working on it, but it may not prove to be possible.

Erm, you might want to read this FAQ.
Ooops got my wrists slapped
However...it's good to see the issues being addressed
Thanks for the update Bridger

Excellent!
Just like to say that so far I have been planning on NOT joining the Euro CoH release, mostly down to the fact that I don't want to pay the extra monthly subscription (from £7.50 per month). I would be quite happy to buy the box (at £29.99 afaik) though.
So this would be good once it's implemented (ASAP please!).
p.s. Multiply price in pounds by a bit less than two for dollar price.
A friend of mine just received this e-mail from PlayNC,

Thank you for contacting PlayNC support!
Generally speaking, you will need to purchase the City of Heroes European version to be able to login/play on the European servers.
If you need further assistance with this, please contact us.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now as you can see, PlayNC seem to be trying to insist you WILL have to buy the Euro release, while it seems you Dev's are saying we wont. So who should we believe?

NCSoft are saying you'll probably have to buy a new one, the Devs are saying they're trying to make it so you won't.

Ueah, I worked out the difference, using the current currency exchange rate and the UK montly fee is about £1 a month more than the US.
This is due to the dollar currently having a low value against the pound/euro.
Problem for PlayNC is that the customers won't accept a pricing strategy that changes monthly depending upon the current exchange rate, so they have to create a separate Euro price, based upon the costs of implementing servers in Europe.
However, it's looking like the dollar might continue to lower against the pound/euro, so that monthly difference is going to get larger. Many people in Europe are now buying goods (especially DVDs and CDs) from the US, as even after shipping, it's still cheaper than buying them from a shop here! This is one of the economic intentions of the US government AFAIK, so it's not surprising to see it reflected in a video game price.

Just wanna say, on other MMO's ive been on (well the only one before CoH), it was possible. So, as long is this is not possible here, I'm staying on the US servers, I love my characters too much to have to play them over again. It also took me alot of time, time I'm not willing to put in the same toon again. So Dev's, please do what you can to make transfer possible, because you might just have one more Euro player
Have to say, I'm in the same boat as Khimera, but my main snag is the very good SG I joined.

I still wouldn't mind something official to back that up with
I would love to change to EU because of the better time zones, the native speaking support and so on...but what will happen to my good old Sparkling?
I cant leave him alone....so...well maybe its an and of a great story...
Yes, we´re still waiting for a reply...
