  1. Sony Vegas here too.

I started off with Windows Moviemaker 2, which is actually a lot better than people give it credit for, especially if you're just starting out and want to be able to make stuff quickly.

I've used Pinnacle stuff too, but I found it a bit unstable and clunky.

p.s. Multiply price in pounds by a bit less than two for dollar price.

Ueah, I worked out the difference, using the current currency exchange rate and the UK montly fee is about £1 a month more than the US.

This is due to the dollar currently having a low value against the pound/euro.

Problem for PlayNC is that the customers won't accept a pricing strategy that changes monthly depending upon the current exchange rate, so they have to create a separate Euro price, based upon the costs of implementing servers in Europe.

However, it's looking like the dollar might continue to lower against the pound/euro, so that monthly difference is going to get larger. Many people in Europe are now buying goods (especially DVDs and CDs) from the US, as even after shipping, it's still cheaper than buying them from a shop here! This is one of the economic intentions of the US government AFAIK, so it's not surprising to see it reflected in a video game price.
  3. LOL - well I live in the UK and have been playing CoH since a couple of days after release (I bought it off the PlayNC site before they scrapped being able to do that).

I applied for European Beta, but haven't heard anything back (yet).

A point that was touched on earlier is the language barrier.

In pretty much every online game I have ever played that has US survers and European servers, it seems that German becomes the primary language for the Euro server.

I could guess a number of reasons why, but essentially, for me, it is a self-fulfilling situation.

I am pretty sure that CoH will be the same, so I will continue to play on the US server, thus depriving the Euro server of another English-speaking player.

Just imagine if three quarters of the stuff in the broadcast channels is in a language you do not understand!

I'm not being elitist, racist or xenophobic here, but when I play a game, I prefer to be able to understand what the other players in the game are saying!
  4. I like seeing the different ways everyone creates their videos - there is no real right or wrong way and I like the approach above - gives you plenty of opportunity to add in extra special effects in photoshop etc to the frames.

There's an alternative, that uses different software in the (to be updated soon - honest) guide on my website. See my sig for the link.

    Nice one IttiBittiKitty!
  5. And the witch is from the carnival group.

Still, adding pumpking heads and stuff is cool.

Many people won't get to see the mobs these things are based upon, so props to the devs for the idea.
  6. EDIT: apologies for replying in this thread - I know it's off topic - I didn't look which thread it was before answering. D'oh!

Answer is now over in This Thread
  7. I have been using the freecache.org service to improve downloads, but it's in beta and is unreliable.

I've fixed it now, so that the software downloads directly from my webspace, so no delay problems.

    Apologies for the problem!
  8. I've updated my site, so there's a proper link on there to the guide now and, with the film competition turning up, I intend to update the guide in the next few days as well.

StormKnight's "How to make CoH movies" guide

It covers using alternative software to FRAPS if any of you are having trouble with that.
  9. It's not too bad using Mozilla Firefox 0.9 - it's mostly the reveal page that mucks up.
  10. Sorry about the hyperlinks - they work as hyperlinks in the MS Word document I created. I used PDF Factory to convert to a PDF file and it seems to have not made them into links. Bah. Will have to see if I can do that.

Okay, as for tutorial on how to use Movie Maker to put video sequences together and add music, I'll be taking a look at that for the next version of this guide. I haven't used movie maker much myself, as I have Pinnacle Studio, but am aiming to get to grips with it.

    Will keep you posted.
  11. Hiya all,

I've finished version 1.0 of my movie making guide.

It tells you what you need to know to record demos, capture video and edit video.

It's only version one, and if anyone has any good ideas for stuff to include, please email me.

    It's available for download here
    (793 KB)
  12. Heh, I guess it kinda relies on having seen the adverts. Nicely done though!
  13. If you want to get rid of the chats and the floating damager numbers, go to the link in my sig and download my demo editor / launcher app.

The (free) software I'm using to get video from my demos is gamecam.
