whenever i play a demo i get a big black box in the upper left hand corner and a smaller one in the bottom right, anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: this box changes color as the target in the demo moves around, like if the target faces a red object the giant box becomes reddish

That might be a dialog box for something else. Are you playing in Windowed mode? If not, try that.

Too bad nothign has been updated in months. I was hoping demo files would become the new version of screenshots someday considering how small the files are and how much cooler they can be.

Should be a neat effect if you fill a road with cars then have all of them explode at once, don't you think? Probably need a physics card for that, though. I wonder what happens if the Atlas dirgible (sp!?) does a MOV DEATH now? Will it explode? Probably not but if it did..... oooh my!

Oh, sorry to be confusing, I was more than a bit giddy. <g> Those are just lines from a few demos I've made. The array appears to be a way to recorde what the state of the dynamic map objects in the new I7 PvP zone. Idunno what the Sky deal is but it has only shown up in a Mayhem mission so far. Same with destroying parking meters.

Now if you'll excuse me....

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I just found the options for demo making. As Marbles and Zloth both seem to have their PM's disabled I needed to ask this here. Is there a way to enable the UI portion of the game for the demos? So that you can see character stats/info and the chat box?

Nope, the UI isn't recorded in the demo. The only chatting you can see is the text bubbles that happen to be in front of you. Chats ARE recorded, though, even ones from out of the mission like Arena chatter. To see those, just open up the demo in Notepad and search on 'chat'.

Hmmm, I didn't even know I could turn off my PM. I'll check.

Just came back from a year-long break... had to install game for the free weekend, and then I was hooked. Oh my, gotta start playing with this again... after I get myself reaquainted with the game.

PLEASE HELP ME Z! I just recorded a massive arena match while I was in observation mode. I recorded the whole thing from start to finish. I did not give the /demostop command as I had forgot. But since it stops recording when you leave a zone I wasn't worried. But here's the deal: IT CRASHES WHEN I LOAD IT! Ack! That was a once and a lifetime event for us and my demo won't open! Any help for saving this footage?

Unfortunately, there are a few maps that have been crashing every time in demos lately. The Freakshow warehouse is one of them but there are others. Looks like you found another one.

I would NOT throw away the demo. Don't hold your breath either, though. Demos are not a supported feature so even a bad bug like this is going to be way down on the priority list. Just keep checking every month or so to see if it has been fixed.

Oh, if you really really want to see the demo now, you can watch it without the map. Make a copy of the demo and open it up in Notepad. Near the top will be a line that looks something like:

0 0 MAP Lots/Of/Text/Gobblty/[censored]/Path/thingy.txt

Change that to just read:

0 0 MAP

This lets the demo run - sans map. Everyone will be running around in mid-air but they will at least be running around. If it's dark, you might want to change the Time number (also near the top) to be 12.

Thanks a lot. I don't know how you guys know what you know, but you just saved me a lot of hair pulling. According to the CoH Demo Content Resources, there are 4 arena maps: Office, Cargo Ship, Perez Park, and Tech.

Cargo Ship is the one that won't record FYI. Switched to Tech and most of the action stays out of the walls.

I have been trying to get the demo the MasterMarbles had posted to work for over an hour now. I have been using Zloth's Demo Launcher to launch the demo. But every single time I try to launch CoH crashes about 1/4 way thru loading and brings up the crash box.

Has something changed in I8 to cause the demos to not work anymore? I deleted out all the info on Mister Marbles in the demo after seeing the post about costume changes, but that didn't help. Anyone have any suggestions?

edit: I tried Galaxy City and it launched ok (I couldn't see anyone though--I'm assuming they are in the hill). There is something with using Atlas Park's map that crashes my program.

edit again: I finally got it to play in Galaxy and Peregrine. Something seems to be wrong with Atlas and Kings Row. Both of those zones ended up crashing for me.

Since Issue 8 a number of maps are no longer working in demos for some reason. The only solution found for now is to swap out the regular maps for Steel Canyon, Talos, Atlas Park and others that don't work with their Mayhem Mission maps or outside mission maps. It's not perfect but it seems to work.

hey all, got a question about Demo editing. Spefficialy how do I implement a command. I'm trying to put the Chat command into effect so that between each MOV the character has a chat bubble pop up. Here maybe this will help explain it:

Here is the coding I've already done for the file:

If you can't tell from that snippet, I'm compiling a list of all the MOV actions, and tieing them to a speccific actor. That way I can find out which models can do which actions just by changing 2 lines of code and running the demo. I want the model to do the action, and then have a chat bubble pop up that says "This is whatever" with the MOV name being inplace of whatever. So, what am I doing wrong?

Is this the entirety of the demo? If so, I see 2 small problems:

1- You don't have any characters marked as "player". Without that line, the map loads but nothing else shows up. Note that currently, whatever is marked as the 'player' won't have any fx show up, so I'd just put an NPC puddle in the same spot and make it the player.

2- Add at least a couple seconds on to the end of the demo, otherwise the chat command will happen just as the demo is ending and you probably won't even see it. A simple 'MOV READY' command does just fine.

yeah originally that was the entire script, but later I noticed those same problems and have since fixed them. I still have the same problem. The demo loads, the character or NPC loads and does the MOV actions. But no chat bubbles show up. Here's the coding (Well up until it gets repetitive that is)

Change the 8 1 "This is etc." to an 8 0 "This is etc.". I forget exactly what each of the chat numbers mean, something to do with what channel they end up in.

And while I do appreciate someone testing 18 gotrillion MOV commands, I do question your sanity for compiling them all into a 90+ minute demo.

AWSOME! It works now!

And just for the record, it's only 2303 MOV animations and if you think that's crazy, you don't even want to imagine thinking about what I'm doing the demo for.

OKay, new glitch. Wings don't work in my scripted demo. what gives?

Part of the bug I mentioned earlier. Pretty much any FX from the player simply won't show up in demos currently, including things like weapons. Just take the player tag off of your character and add this bit in:

The only real issue with this fix is that sounds in demos are centered around the player, so moving away from the puddle will cause any sounds from your player to become more and more distant. But for the purposes of your demo, this really isn't an issue.

Hey all, I just finished coding the first of my "Expo demos". THis one is all the flight MOVs. If you're looking to do some screen caping of in flight toons, just do a simple character substitution and hit play. I'll be making an NPC one and giving you all the link for it probably next week. I'm busy this week end.

I had to upload the demo as a .txt file so you'll need to save it as a .cohdemo file.
