Newsman badge--very sly!
[ QUOTE ]
Talos Island districts are full of references to Greek myth, including Talos himself, originally a bronze giant with molten blood.

Yeah, don't screw with that guy.
Oooh, I didn't even think of Cesar Romero..
George Romero just sprung to mind because the zone is filled with Zombies and it's perpetually dark.
So there are now three possibilities for the Romero reference to try to figure out.. odds on favorite, given the direction of most of the others, including the newsman badge, would be Cesar Romero, since he was in a direct comic connection.
While we're pointing out references thrown into CoH, I'll mention that the professor in City Hall, "St. John-Smythe", was a name that James Bond used when going undercover in View To a Kill (though he pronounced it more like "synjun smythe" in the movie. Haven't seen anything else that would link the character in CoH to James Bond or Roger Moore (who played Bond in VtaK) though.
Augur - lvl 50 Illusion/storm controller
Arctalus - lvl 50 Ice/Energy blaster
Crey Avenger - lvl 48 Fire/Rad controller
Augur Prime - lvl 41 Peacebringer
Spiky Whatsit - lvl 39 claws/regen scrapper

Those wacky Brits.
I saw a Lost Pariah say 'Good. I prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin' around' once. The devs are Lucas fans, to be sure.
Just how did you come up with that, anyway? Very well done. hehe.

The Babbage Machine was a totally clockwork computing device. He designed but never built it, if I'm not mistaken. Kind of like Davinci and the helicoptor.
[/ QUOTE ]
Babbage did build a Difference Engine; however, his Analytical Engine was well beyond the technological limits of the period, and was never completed.
IIRC, Michael Flynn wrote a novel that revolved, at least partially, around a secret society that actually built Analytical Engines and used them for sociologial predictions, titled In the Country of the Blind. A fun read.

That's an artifact of British accent and dialect, in the same way that the name "Featherstone-Haugh" is pronounced "fanshaw".

The Newsman exploration badge you can get in Faultline seems to have a tricky background to it. It reads:
The Theodore Knight building was home to many Super Groups in the years before the Rikti War.
Okay. That got my wheels turning.
Theodore Knight
actor Ted Knight
his newsman character Ted Baxter
the Baxter Building
home of the Fantastic Four supergroup
Man, that's just as twisted as the streets of Faultline themselves!

I knew I shoulda made that more obscure!

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Whee, necropost +1! Wonder how you managed to find something so old that wasn't eaten by the forum monster.
This thread actually has some cool info in it, and with so many new players popping up here (and someone complaining the forums are dead on Friday afternoons), I figured, what the heck?

Otters, sound the War-Horns! A zombie most dire and foul has arisen. In fact, so old is this corpse it is no longer a zombie, rather a dreaded Spectre! Sharpen your spears of Holyness and kiss your pups goodbye, today we ride into battle! Pray to the devine Carp Father for his blessings that you may return to your dens after this day is done. Now, to the War Penguins!!!

Ted Knight also played Henry Rush in the series "Too Close For Comfort", in which he had the occupation of cartoonist of "Cosmic Cow".
I enjoyed that show myself, but being 33 I guess my opinions are those of an "old man".

I also loved the show "Too Close For Comfort". And, I also watched quite a bit of "Mary Tyler Moore" in my youth.
I didn't find the references obscure in any way...
And, for the record, at 33 you are not quite an "old man"...

Ted Knight was in Caddyshack with Bill Murray who was in Ghostbusters with Dan Akroyd who was in Blues Brothers with John Belushi who was in Animal House with........
Kevin Bacon.
(sorry, couldn't resist)

That's good.. but.. you can do it shorter than that.
Ted Knight was in Caddy Shack with Bill Murray who was in Wild Things with Kevin Bacon. 2 steps.
Not a badge, and not comic related, but I'd guess that Romero Heights in DA is named for George Romero? (I'm really hoping there won't be a "Huh? Who's that?" post put up here...)
[/ QUOTE ]
There's also Cesar Romero, who played the Joker on the old '60s Batman TV series.
