Noobers Guide to CoH Abbreviation and Jargon
*bump*
enh/enhas - enhancements (one sec, doing enhas)
slowbie - someone who slows the group down because they don't have a spiffy transport power, yet.
KAPOW! - what to tell your group when you level (as opposed to 'ding!')
Can you grab some stuff from this FAQ:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...amp;PHPSESSID=
Btw, "assist" has a more specific denotation: not just killing the same mob as someone else, but actually targeting your friend and firing. Technically, you don't even know who you are shooting.
This matters greatly. If the puller says "I'm pulling, please assist" and you think "Okay, I will shoot someone, too" that's a big problem.
How about AT= Arch Type

I hear a lot of people talking (mostly in context of PvP discussions) about nerfing or powers being nerfed. I get the impression that this means that they've been powered down somehow, maybe to try to even the playing field. I think it might be a good thing to add to this list.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, nerfing is the process of taking a formally overpowered (or easily explotible) part of the game and weakening so much that it becomes almost useless (or at least, useless in the eyes of the people who used to use it).
[ QUOTE ]
Here's my thing, what the hell is the different between PBAE and PBAoE?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nothing.
Dark_shield, your new link appears to be dead.
One I use, this may just be me though:
GTAE - ground targetted area effect (i.e. one you click a location for on the ground and it stays around that area, rather than being targetted on a mob or player).
Don't forget:
AO = Anarchy Online
AC = Asheron's Call
AC2 = Asheron's Call 2
PvM = Player vs. Mobs (or monster)
Anchor = Mob that has an AoE debuff cast on it which is effecting other Mobs.
AM = Accelerated Metabolism
Ok here are a few more I see used in groups or on the channels:
Huby - Husband
Wify - Wife
Char - Character
DL - Dead link
SS - Super Speed
SJ - Super Jump
CJ - Combat Jump
FF - Force Feild (FF defender looking for group)
Emp - Empathy
Rad - Radiation
Eng - Energey
Reg - Regeneration

How about a definition for an "Add".
[/ QUOTE ]
Add or adds or add(#) = when 1 or more mob(s) start attacking your group thus adding to the number of things that need to be killed, controlled, or taunted. Its a nice warning to alert everyone's attention to the new mobs rushing the team.
[ QUOTE ]
L33T The common term for the abbreviation and butchering of the English language by a vast majority of on-line gamers. l33t uses many numbers and symbols in it and commonly replaces the letter s with the letter z.
[/ QUOTE ]
l33t = leet which = elite
the typing with numbers and symbols is hacker//script kiddie lingo which the exploiters and hackers in games are normally the elite that used it, and it came to be known as leet speach in mmogs. So watch out for those l334 DooD3z! Other then that everyone else just makes fun of it and has fun with the artistic value of typing it. Ownd - became pwnd due to fast typing and hitting the p on accident which became cool somehow.

RAWR Look at me/us kick a$$

h8 = hate
l8 = late
l8r = later
m8 = mate
~Xpuls3
emp/dark defender
Took me a while to get here <walks in months later>
But to have saved you a whole lot of time figuring out and posting the definitions. If people actually spoke what they meant without abbreviations, we'd not need to worry about it
Please excuse my belated pet peeve.
well u can type out all the full meanings of whatever u want but i like to use shorthand when i can.
on some sites, a n00b and a newb(ie) are different
a newb or newbie is somone who is just new to the game
a n00b is a person who has been playing the game for quite a while, but is actling like a newb
"Illinois Nazis" is a reference to the Blues Brothers movie.
When I read that one, I was ROTFLMAO.
Great list! Thanks
Can someone tell me what "FOTM" is. I have gathered its meaning but I dont know what it really abreviates.

Flavor Of The Month
Could somebody very specifically define "magnitude?" It seems to be something more complicated than "it's harder to use powers against higher-level mobs."
This is a good thread. A lot of good information in here. Thanks.
Magnitude or MAG -
The power of a hold or other control power.
A typical hold has magnitude 3 hold power, but you can sometimes get a critical hit of MAG 4. If you do, it will hold a boss with 1 hold. Bosses need a combined hold of 4 or more mag to be held, which is why 1 doesn't usually do it but two always do (if they both hit of course).
Dev or Devs: the COH develepers or development team
Bubble or bar: one unit on the experience meter
LFTF = Looking For Task Force
PST = Please Send Tell
RA=Recovery Aura
Hugs=Gather near caster for buffs
Lady Deacon, 50 ill/ff
Cinder Imp, 50 fa/wm
and many more!
We came up with a new one last night (new for our team that is)
TFY = Alternative to RDY (Ready) when typing really fast. Pronounced "Tiffy"
Now when our team asks if everyone's ready we respond with TFY.
K10 = Defeat 10 mission
"I just got a K10 Vahz mission."
