It's a slight distinction that I'll have to mull over for a bit.
Player created, this is not an area in which we interfere. We don't handle creation, dissolution, internal matters, etc. All we do is offer to help player organizations with tools to make their jobs easier. Any players can request this, and our help is based on 1) viability, 2) perceived benefit. Base building is an area which we feel a player committee could benefit the entire community greatly, and it is viable for a player group to become established.
  2. Heya folks,

Just wanted to drop in here and voice a few of my thoughts. When approached about this idea, we were immediately excited. We think that the base building community would be well served by an organized committee that focused on the communities needs, and are happy to do what we can to aid in such an endeavor.

I also think that it is best for a small group of like minded individuals to initially do much of the work in forming such a group, without seeking extensive input from the community. The reason for this is committees are not effective in getting things done initially and the early organizational efforts do not require extensive input but merely setting up the framework for later interactions.

Having said that, obtaining validation from the community that any committee purports to represent is crucial or the whole effort is in vain. Much of the discussion I've had with Turbo has regarded making sure that the community will have access to the committee and be able to participate if they are interested. That being said I believe that the intention is there and the structure is coming along well.

Looking forward to working with you folks,
  3. Are you an uber CoH fan who is in desperate need of sprucing up the old game room? Perhaps you want to customize your work office to reflect your admiration for the game? Well, good news! Now, thanks to the newly available City of Heroes® Wall Graphics available from LTL Prints, you can do just that and more!

These LTL wall graphics are size customizable – so you can go small to adorn a folder or notebook or kick it up a major notch and go life-sized, perfect for the wall of a room. What’s the best thing about them? They’re re-usable! So if you stick them somewhere and change your mind, it’s not a problem. They can be moved multiple times and not lose their adhesive nature.

Check out some of the CoH Team with the wall graphics we put up at the studio:

Can’t wait to get your hands on one of these babies? Well, come to our Northern CA Meet and Greet and you could walk away with one! We’ll be giving away some Desdemona, Maelstrom and Tyrant Wall Graphics as part of our prize raffle.
So use CoH’s Going Rogue characters to help “bring to life” your favorite item or room today. Check out the LTL Prints site to purchase yours or come to our Northern CA Meet and Greet for your chance to take one home with you!

*Please note. City of Heroes® Wall Graphics available from LTL Prints are currently only available for purchase in the U.S.

So I didn't need to wear a costume I got from the Halloween event itself to get it.

If I'm understanding this right, are we supposed to only be able to get the Tip while wearing the temp costumes from the Halloween event? If the ones from the conventions and meet-ups (or forum games) count as well, then some people will have an advantage since they don't need to wait for a costume drop first.

Not that I'd mind, since I'm one of those lucky people... but still...
The Costumes available from the conventions and meet ups will function in this regard as well.
  5. Howdy there Ghouls and Ghosts, it’s almost time for yet another Halloween celebration in City of Heroes! We’ve enabled this year’s Halloween Event on the Test server and would love any feedback you would like to give us.

This Year’s Halloween Event Includes all the fun of last year’s events (Trick or Treating, Giant Monsters, the Zombie Apocalypse, and the Deadly Apocalypse) as well as a brand new Halloween Tip Mission. These events aren't limited to Primal Earth either, but can also be found in Praetoria!

As always, we appreciate your feedback and any bugs you might spot. Please feel free to post them in this thread. Specifically we are most interested in:
    • Is the Halloween Event in Praetoria functioning?
    • Is the Halloween Event (includingTrick or Treating, Zombie Apocalypse, and Deadly Apocalypse) in Primal Earth working as intended?
    • Are players receiving the Tip Mission as a potential reward for Trick or Treating while under the effects of a temporary Costume (and only from Trick or Treating while using a temporary Costume)?
    • Are the badges for completing the Tip mission with various endings awarding as intended? Badges include:
      • Secured
      • Power Hungry
      • Artifact Destroyer
      • Veiled
      • Trusting/Arriviste
      • Meticulous

Feedback is important to our development process, there are two types of feedback and both are helpful although some give us more insight and are more easily adapted into game changes.
    • Objective Feedback: Objective feedback is based upon what you as a user see or experience that other users may also see and experience. This feedback usually can be replicated easily as it involves facts and unbiased opinions. Example: When using the base editor items are sometimes getting caught in columns or pillars.
    • Subjective Feedback: Subjective feedback is based upon how you feel or experience the game as yourself. This experience may not necessarily be replicated because it is based on feeling and emotion. Subjective feedback is important to us but it is usually helpful if more information is present to describe what and why you feel the way you do. Example: I like the way the graphics look on my shield animation it gives me the feeling of being truly super-powered.
    Thanks,

  10. Our 5th and final Meet and Greet of 2010 has been set and it’s one you’re not going to want to miss! With the full resources of Paragon Studios behind us, this will be the premier Meet and Greet event of the year so we hope you’ll join us in the “City by the Bay” for some great discussions, food and fun! Read on for the details…

What: The City of Heroes Northern CA Meet & Greet
    Where: Saturday, November 6th, 2010, 6pm – 12am
    Location: Elephant and Castle
    424 Clay St
    San Francisco, CA 94111-3207
    (415) 268-3900
Parking: "Embarcadero Center" parking lot on Battery and Clay. Other nearby lots close at midnight and your car could get stuck in them.

Having this Meet and Greet in our own backyard makes it something special. With many members of the Dev Team in attendance you will have opportunities to not only socialize with the men and women behind your favorite online game, but experience a special presentation or two and even engage in round table discussions with them on a number of CoH-related topics! The Elephant and Castle in San Francisco is uniquely equipped with a “Lombard” room (with pool table) for socializing and a separate large conference room space for presentations – so we’re planning on taking full advantage of that!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Meet and Greet without some goodies, so this time around we’re handing out to attendees the exclusive Meat Doctor Costume Code! Whether it’s vivisection or unnecessary surgical exploration, nothing screams “Good Time!” like Meat Doctors. Be the envy of your friends and a terror to your enemies with this brand new costume power.

That won’t be the only give-away though; you will also have the opportunity to get your hands on a lenticular CoH/CoV button, participate in a raffle for great prizes, and much more!

    Admission/Venue Details

There is no fee to attend our Northern CA Meet & Greet and an RSVP is not required, but it would help us out to get an idea of how many people will be attending so feel free to RSVP on our Official Facebook page once we list this gathering as an event.

Attendees must be 13 years or older, and minors need to be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Appetizers and non alcoholic beverages will be provided to all. A cash bar will be available to individuals of age, so don’t forget to bring your ID!

There is a public parking lot on the corner of Battery and Clay Streets for a fee…otherwise there should be other parking lots around and street parking available.

    See you all there!

  11. Heya folks,

Just a quick reminder that the New York Meet and Greet is tonight starting at 7pm in the basement and sub-basement of the Hudson Hotel (356 W. 58th Street, New York, NY 10019)! Clever villains have conspired to trick you and removed any signs from outside the building, so we’ve included this handy reference shot taken by our own Avatea. This is what the entrance looks like. It’s a non-descript white building with a door man outside of it. We look forward to seeing you all there!

    Thanks,

Paragon Studios is still profoundly committed to City of Heroes and is proud of both the game we have created and the community who plays it. We're here for the long run, no need to be scurred.
  13. The PR statement from the article is correct.

In an effort to put a greater focus on the City of Heroes franchise, Paragon Studios is shifting resources within the studio. In order to optimize the refocus, there has been a reduction in force that has impacted a small amount of people. Paragon Studios is an integral part of the NCsoft West family and will continue to prosper, delivering the world’s most popular superpowered hero MMO game, City of Heroes, to fans around the world.
  14. It’s our policy not to comment on personnel issues but rest assured that we remain as dedicated as ever to the future of the City of Heroes franchise.

  16. Heya folks,

I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about Halloween in the City of Heroes this year, and while I can’t completely spill the beans quite yet (an official announcement is in the works), here’s what I can share at this time:
    • Event Start: October 21st, 2010: 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time / 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time / 5:00 p.m. British Time / 18:00 Central European Time
    • Event End: October 31st, 2010: 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time / 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time / 6:59 a.m. British Time / 7:59 Central European Time
    • All previous Halloween Event features will be back
    • A few new Tricks and Treats – like Costume Temp Powers and an NPC in Praetoria who will accept Halloween Salvage so Praetorians can unlock the Halloween Costume Slot easier.
    • A new Halloween specific Tip Mission.
    • And more!

I hope that helps you start looking forward to Old Hallow’s Eve. Be watching for the official Halloween Event Announcement!

  17. As a long time Illusion Controller player, I have to say I'd find the set perfectly viable as a Dom control set. Personally my fears are the opposite, I think it might be too strong. That being said I can think of a number of fun combinations I would love to pair with Illusion on a dom, and would be the first person to make one.

*This post is purely personal opinion, and is in no way reflective of Paragon Studios development priorities*
  18. cookies and treats are good, but Mrs. Ocho might get upset with my ever expanding waistline. Throwing events or demonstrating on the forums is so much better, Cai's got a good idea here... what do you folks think?

Sorry about the confusion, but yes they have been removed for everyone not already using them.

It's always hard walking the balance between being unduly verbose and expressing things in a manner that adequately conveys the intended meaning. Definitely a challenging part of the job, and I'll work on it!
  23. I tend to make characters one of two ways:

    1) I think of a terrible pun or other form of joke, and then the character has to be made.

    2) I get sucked into reading someone's post on a particular set or combination, and their enthusiasm sells me enough to go ahead and try the combo. When you spend more time than is probably healthy on the forums this is a real risk.

Of the two I tend to play the 1st type of character more, mostly cause I get a good snicker when I log in to the character select screen.
  24. Hey Folks,

Well it seems like the leak was slightly larger than we thought, if it weren’t for those meddling Soldiers of Arachnos! While the Snow and Firefly Auras were for a future issue (and are now being included as part of Issue 19), the Storm Cloud Aura is for a completely different initiative and will be removed from availability in the live environment.

    Thanks,
