With the expanding PvP population on Freedom, I don't think there has ever been a better time for this. Good luck!

As the American holiday of Thanksgiving approaches and many of us prepare to spend it with our families we wanted to take a moment to send out our best wishes to those of you from the community who celebrate the holiday regardless of where you may be located. So from all of us here at Paragon Studios please have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!
In the spirit of this occasion, the Community Relations Team thought it would be nice to start a little thread that allows us to reflect a bit and share what we are thankful for this year, in an attempt to keep in the forefront of our minds what the Thanksgiving holiday signifies. We invite you all to add posts to this thread and share what you are thankful for, too.
This year I personally have a great deal to be thankful for; not only do I work with the best community on the internet, but I am also recently engaged to my girlfriend who, for reasons known only to herself, has agreed to marry me. This Thanksgiving will mark our first with the extended family. Not only that, but my 1 year anniversary as an employee of Paragon Studios is rapidly approaching. Id like to thank all of you for making this last year the most rewarding professionally of my life. I have never felt so happy to come into work every day and I look forward to working (and interacting) with all of you folks for as long as theyll let me! -
So when am I going to find out what poor soul paid good inf to be forced to group with me?
-
I can't answer for Avatea, however Niviene is a corrupter, usually ice/kin or electric/storm I believe.
Mod08 is a Fire/War Mace tanker, and if I get won on villain side I'll probably have to create theOcho. I'm thinking fire/dark or ice/cold corrupter as I usually don't IO my work characters out and those combos are extremely effective in just SO's. Currently there exists a Mr. Ocho who is a Dark/Pain Domination corrupter but that wasn't really my cup of tea.
If SatanicHamster wins me, it'll have to be a stalker however. -
Hrmm, can I make people read obscure sections of the forums looking for violations for 4 hours?
Seriously though, looking forward to this event. Hopefully I'll be able to make it on time to see how much inf Avatea commands, as well as my own meagre contribution. -
2009 Player Choice Awards, now available in extra sticky.
Looks like I've got a lot of arcs to run! -

Your patience is appreciated, -
Hey All,
I wanted to take a few moments to chat with you about downtimes since I know they can be a point of contention for you sometimes. Downtime can definitely be a bummer, for they prevent people from logging into the game and using the service. We try and minimize them as much as possible because although they are a necessity we really don’t enjoy inconveniencing anyone. Of course, we want the game to be up and available to as many people as possible all of the time.
Like I said, however, downtimes are necessary for a variety of reasons. The first reason is maintenance. Maintenance in any online service is a fact of life. That being said, we're always working hard to reduce the length and amounts of downtimes that need to be performed. That’s why we've switched to the new trial schedule of only one maintenance period a week. We need to perform maintenance to keep the game functioning, but we need to reduce it to an acceptable level.
The second common cause of downtime is content patches. Patches introduce new features into the game, or change how features in the game currently work. These patches occur less frequently than maintenances. The upside to these patches is that you get some new content or system (or bug fix) along with them, that hopefully adds to your enjoyment of the game. When we make these kinds of patches, we try to include as many things as possible in them so that we can execute them fairly infrequently.
The final cause of downtimes is the most infrequent and is one used to address a problem in the game – for example – something that is not working as designed that is negatively impacting your game playing experience. Sometimes we are not at liberty to discuss the details of these issues, but please know that we only take the game down to address them only in the most serious of circumstances.
Anytime we have downtime one of the issues that OCR raises is “How will this affect players, particularly those players who live in the Oceanic region and whose prime play time is most impacted by these decisions?” This issue is always a consideration for us, but depending on the situation… regardless of who may be most impacted, a downtime may still be required. We've stepped up our efforts internally to properly notify the players of downtimes and will continue to try and give players as much notice as possible. We just do ask that you realize that true “emergency situations” do sometimes occur and this might affect the amount of notice that is given.
Sometimes, downtime caused by necessary fixes to the game follows a content patch, and this can make a downtime last longer than we’d like. We recognize this is an issue, and are very focused on providing stable content patches that reduce the need for fixes that cause additional downtime. When possible, we also fold in content upgrades with our regular maintenance schedule so as to not increase the frequency of downtime more than usual.
We wanted to go ahead and share this information so that you all really understood what was going on during downtimes and didn’t think that we did them simply to annoy you. There are always very good reasons for each and every one we initiate, although that might not always be visible on your end. So with that, we’d just like to thank you for taking the time to read this and educate yourself on the subject. We also want to thank you for your continued patience during any and every downtime that we might need to execute!

Attention Heroes and Villains!
We have been monitoring player feedback to our new 2009 Halloween Deadly Apocalypse Event. We are preparing a build that will be promoted to the Live Servers next week that will increase the frequency of the Deadly Apocalypse event and resolve some rare cases of map instability when the Event is launching within a zone. Since those changes will be promoted to our Live Servers next week, we are extending the Halloween Event from November 3rd to November 10th. This should allow many of you to obtain many of the Event only badges and enjoy the in-game Treats. -
What’s the only thing better than a Free Reactivation and Double XP Weekend? A Free Reactivation and Double XP Weekend that’s been extended by an extra day!

Hey All,
Just wanted to take a moment to introduce our newest official representative on the forums; Arbiter Kim. Arbiter Kim is especially focused on rooting out all traitors I mean bugs in City of Heroes and will be focusing primarily on the Technical and Beta Forums.
So without further ado, let me let him introduce himself. But for all you bug discovers out there, you now have a go-to guy: Arbiter Kim! -
Thanks so much all who have posted their videos in this thread and those who have contacted me privately!
Without getting too much into specifics, we in the community team are often looking for ways to highlight our users' creativity, and video translates particularly well in certain venues. Any videos have potential to be used, but those which are free of legal constraint can be used in more diverse manners.
Similarly no time deadline is involved, although sooner is better as any opportunity we would have soon would rely on already existing videos.
Thanks again. We're Looking forward to any more posted videos, and any new videos people come up with! -
The live North American of Heroes servers will be undergoing additional maintenance on Tuesday October 6th in preparation for Double XP and Reactivation Weekend.
Start Time: 4:00 AM Pacific Time (6:00 AM Central Time / 7:00 AM Eastern Time)
Expected Duration: 2 hours
Expected Finish Time: 6:00 AM Pacific Time ( 8:00 AM Central Time / 9 AM Eastern Time)
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. -
The Halloween Event has been updated for 2009. In addition to the Zombie Apocalypse and the normal City Zone Trick or Treating, City Zones can now host the Deadly Apocalypse Event.
Heroes and Villains who enable the Zone Event Channel on their Chat Tab will be alerted to the new Deadly Apocalypse Event. (Noted as Supernatural activity.
Deadly Apocalypse Event
The fog has rolled in, the sky has darkened, and something is not right. A howling wolf sounds in the night and players are alerted, via Global Alert, that the event is happening in a City Zone (Trial Zones, Hazard Zones, PvP Zones, and Co-Op zones do not have the event running in those zones).
As the Halloween Deadly Apocalypse occurs in a zone, the sky changes to a different color.
- If the Deadly Apocalypse Event is not already running in a zone, Costume salvage redemption at Annah / Granny Beldam has a chance to trigger the Deadly Apocalypse event across all viable zones
- 4 Haunting Banners (destructible objects) appear across a zone, but are surrounded by a magical barrier (they appear on the MiniMap)
- Each Haunting Banner is protected by one of four Haunting Defenders/Ambushers who protect the magical barrier
- There is a chance that Elite Bosses appear as Defenders, depending on the size of the group
- Players must defeat Defenders (of each "type") before the magical barrier goes down and they can attack the Banner itself
- If all 4 Haunting Banners are destroyed before the timer runs out, an Aspect of the Sigil (Giant Monster) appears
- If all 4 Haunting Banners are not destroyed before the timer runs out, the Aspect of the Sigil does NOT spawn and the event cleans itself up
- If either condition is fulfilled, the event cleans itself up
NOTE:
- Players who are within 250 feet of a Banner will have their User Interface (UI) taken over by the Event UI which shows the timer and their status
- If players travel outside of the radius of the Banner, the UI goes away
- UI displays a progress bar which shows how close they are to defeating the themed type of mob
- The status of each Haunting Banner is represented by an Icon in the Event UI. When all Banners appear in the zone, they are shown in the Event UI. Once a particular Banner is defeated (i.e. Transparent Terrors), its representative icon is blacked out.
- The Red Progress bar indicates how close the player is to bringing the Banner to vulnerability. As blue creeps in and takes over, that shows the player is making progress towards making the Banner vulnerable.
If the Players do not manage to defeat all four Banners in time, the Giant Monster will not appear and the event will clean itself up. The Player will be alerted to the end of the event because the zone will revert to "normal" and a closing sound effect will sound.
Badges
The following badges can be earned by participating in the Deadly Apocalypse (Halloween) Event:
- Dark Fiend - participate in defeat of Dark Fiend Banner
- Hell Hath No Fury - participate in defeat of Women Scorned Banner

- Monstrous - participate in the defeat of the Aspect of the Sigil Giant Monster
- Hell and Back (Accolade) - receive Dark Fiend, Hell Hath No Fury, Terror, Monster Masher, and Monstrous badges to earn this Accolade
- We hope you have enjoyed the 2009 Halloween Event Test, and are looking for feedback in the following areas:
*******************************
- Are objectives clear when the Event is running?
- Are rewards being handed out correctly?
- Are there any problems with the event occurring in any City Zone? (Note: The event will only be present In Paragon City or the Rogue Isles City Zones, and not in any PvP Zones, Hazard Zones, Trial Zones or Co-Op Zones)
- Are there any graphical effect bugs?
- Do banner icons appear correctly on the MiniMap when the event is running?
- Do waypoints correctly appear when the event is running? (Note: Navigation waypoints of active Missions orient players to the Halloween Event objectives when a players character is near one, and should disappear when they leave the area.)
- Are enemy NPCs appearing at the appropriate level? (i.e. a Level 50 should be able to fight side-by-side with a Level 5 character).
- Are all badges awarded correctly?
Feedback is important to our development process, there are two types of feedback and both are helpful although some give us more insight and are more easily adapted into game changes.
Objective Feedback: Objective feedback is based upon what you as a user see or experience that other users may also see and experience. This feedback usually can be replicated easily as it involves facts and unbiased opinions. Example: When using the base editor items are sometimes getting caught in columns or pillars.
Subjective Feedback: Subjective feedback is based upon how you feel or experience the game as yourself. This experience may not necessarily be replicated because it is based on feeling and emotion. Subjective feedback is important to us but it is usually helpful if more information is present to describe what and why you feel the way you do. Example: I like the way the graphics look on my shield animation it gives me the feeling of being truly super-powered. -

This request is for all you film producers out there, the Community team is looking for fan produced CoH related videos for a number of potential uses. So if you have a fantastic movie of your character, or a special story you'd like to share in video form, please let us know!
Currently we're looking for the actual files, rather than a link to youtube or a similar type site. So if you have your videos up and ready for download, please shoot me a PM or post in this thread!
Thanks,

Oh, I did.
Thats right, we're going to be testing our new and improved Halloween Event on the Training Room this Friday (October 2nd). So get your clients patched up, and be ready for more details tomorrow! -
Just a quick reminder for those who haven't checked to go ahead and make sure you're signed up for the emails if you are interested in receiving them.
And for those who have had difficulty in the past, rest assured that making sure these emails get to you is indeed a priority to us. We've been working on increasing reliability and are very interested in specifics if you continue not to receive future emails.
Thanks

Quote:Weather is usually fairly good up until the last week of October, however things have been a bit odd for the last week. We should get a last blast of good weather (too hot for me unfortunately) and then we'll all be crossing our fingers for Hero-Con. Halloween is usually pretty dicey.I am hoping that the weather in SF this october will be nicer than it has been this month- I've been checking the Golden Gate Bridge webcam at www.goldengatebridge.org and the poor thing's been shrouded in fog all week. Ugh. September and October are supposed to be the nice months.
And to complicate things, I don't have a laptop that can run CoH..A good gaming laptop is tres expensive- not in the budget right now
The one saving grace is that weather is rarely that bad. No blizzards, no hurricanes, just kinda drab. -
You folks are correct. There will be a new Halloween event this year, and we're expecting to test the new event next week on the Training Room.
Stay tuned for more info, I'll get it to you guys as soon as we've confirmed the details internally!
