  1. Critiques welcomed please before i splurge out on this build:

I want dwarf in just to run around atlas, so no slots required, my aim was perma light form, essence boost, inner light, good recoveery, regen, and low end from toggles. i dont use combat flight, but do realise i could streamline a bit, but i'm ill, my head is frazzled!

  2. Im with Iggy and Mayor on this, your average regen brute may not be able to tank no, but i can on my IO'd scrapper, and there'll be much better players who will do much better things. Perma Dull Pain, and defense of any numbers makes all that HP hard to dispose of before Reconstruction comes round again. I think they'll do fine, and hell forbid you dare mix Regen with Katana and stack Divine Avalanche.....

And if we're being picky, Brutes werent supposed to tank anyways, just cause they do, Masterminds where made for that bit....

Ive slowed down my marketing to the three 50s Ive been playing through incarnate stuff and Im enjoying the slower pace Ive made for myself.

Pretty much exactly this for me since returning in December. I came back to roughly 650m account wide, and currently have 5bil. during that time ive played one char to 50, two (+1)'ed, and numerous projects revisited or created, with two builds pumped up, to the tune of 2 bil (purchased my first ever LOTG 7.5%'s and Numi +R/+R's!)

currently, after getting back into the swing of things, im in the 200mil average per day huddle. though, today, im in the 1bil+ a day huddle thanks to a ragnarok triple recipe drop selling for 700m. i just cant bring myself to part with it all yet lol.

    Trapdoor

personally, i did the arc up to that point on normal settings, then just dropped to -1x0, ran straight to him, smacked him upside the head, and gladly finished up! ive tried 3 different Brutes so far, SS/SR, ELE/Dark, and Dark/Fire, and none could overcome him without dropping settings, other than the SS/SR after popping everything.
  5. not to mention the fact that while we're busy gaining these incarnate abilities, the enemies are also going from 54 upwards, who's to say whats to come? after these trials it could be upwards to 55+ and villains who need that kind of debuffing and damage from a team to be defeatable!
  6. cheers for the tips on how to stash the extra pennies, wondering how to stash it once over 2bil, im about 400mil shy on two chars :-( one took me about 4/5 months, one about a week lol

I think you probably understand that. Nihili was just trying to clarify, I think, for any new readers.

I bolded the phrase that (I think) is the source of contention. +100% recharge with Hasten up ain't so great, particularly on a Farm build, which doesn't need a whole heck of a lot of DEF. Worse still, Fire/Cold DEF is probably the worst type in the game outside of a farming context -- so you've created a build that isn't particularly good at farming and doesn't get any worthwhile benefit elsewhere.

DEF doesn't hurt. Personally I'd shoot for about 20% F/C DEF (18.75% for those with the Vet badge) if I can squeeze it in, because that means two small Lucks will give me the soft cap in a farm map. But recharge is better in this particular case.

I'm sure your build will work just fine, but it seems a shame to put that much effort into a niche build and not optimize it for the niche in question. You ought to be able to get 90ish% in global recharge (before Hasten) without even trying very hard in a farm-specialized build. That's without purples. You can probably get 50-60% without even using Luck of the Gambler procs.

If your comment about Hasten was a typo, then I apologize.

No typo, and all seems much clearer reading it again, apologies for arsey reply!

having run some maps again after, i began to see just how fast purple insps drop, so no biggie. back to the drawing board. I built the DM/FA to be a general burnaholic, not a specced farmer, but figured another build for that wouldnt hurt.

    Thanks for the input guys.

thats understood, but as i asked earlier, defence surely helps by making you more survivable and so you can be stood upright to actualy fire those AOE'S, without clicking insps etc? you agreed to this actualy.

i wasnt exclusively hunting def in the manner some hunt recharge or one thing, and managed to pull up >100% rech amongst other things whilst getting to 30% f/c def also.

    either way, point understood.

I always try to do this, not a fan of frankenslotting, or wasting slots on pointless extra set bonuses that arent needed. playing with mids, i can get the DM/FA to an approximate 30% f/c Def, 101.66% fire resist ( ~90% :-( ) 235% regen, 2.65 recovery, 1.14 consumption, and 100% recharge with hasten up. not too bad, and better than my current by a bit, so ill probably give it a go soon. Im not a big fan of purple sets either tbh, far too expensive for the gains. i can understand the quest for max recharge, but when hunting def, they dont help too much.
  10. what the best thing to build a fire aura brute for, in the nature of this thread? with capped fire resistance, do you then go for recharge / fire defense, or shoot for the usual end / regen etc? ive got a fairly in between dark / fire brute, who i built for a more all round purpose, 2.8rec, 260% regen, 30% e/n def, 35+ e/n res, 20% s/l and 52% s/l res, but only went for around 12% f/c def. to make a true killing machine for tickets etc, would it be noticeable to get the f/c up in the 30's and ignore the others?

Edited, my keyboard is dodgy, not my spelling.... :-P

Edited again, the build cost me around 350m max, and on Frontloaded, i averaged 9mins over 3 tries this morning.
  11. Quick question:

for the pets to gain the def auras etc, do the uniques have to be in a summoned pet? or does it work like other global uniques, ie slot them in gang war, and works regardless?

    cheers
  12. Mine was my first level 50 Villain, and from 1 to 31, i was continuously alting! Lightning rod got me hooked, and from then on, things picked up as i understood slotting better etc. As a 50, it was the first i fully slotted as per a mids build, and it was good, but still squishy, thats something we have to get used to lol. I constantly hover over dark regen after each couple of attacks, and to be honest, i like the throw of the dice feel between smashing or faceplanting! It will never be a full tanky brute, nor an av solo'er, ive other toons for that, but it does have 4 AOE's, that make most things fall down quickly.

I havnt yet I-19 this guy, but i am currently doing the tips and getting the last few set for this build, let me know what you think. It should be noted im not one to run toggles just because they're there, so although the end usage is at 1.21, the recovery should make 4.18 per sec, and ive still got accolades to get, and incarnate to unlock.

  13. This is the build i run with on Union. I havnt found normal missions to dent my endu bar much, and was bruting Ghost of Scrapyard fine without hurting any bars too much. I also found the two accolades top up the max endu nicely too, with total recovery sitting at 3.66 per sec!

    Precisely this ^^

As i said before, im pretty used to my role as back up tank, in the fray to keep my regen up, but sucked being unable to get aggro off an unslotted scrapper, even using AoE, Taunt and with a taunt enh in RttC. Surely this leaves Against All Odds a little overpowered for taunt? if i was a well slotted / shield scrapper, yeah id love it tanking with the tanker unable to get them back, but this guy wasnt.

Nope, the mention of two mobs was due to close packed mobs, and a scrapper with aggro he didnt want bouncing over tankers trying to lose it to us. The mobs number 13 or slightly higher, but even as the back up tank as I see myself with WP, i cant get aggro off the /shd Scrapper till he's face planted or out of the way. Once he is, the two tanks were sharing all aggro fine, even with a spines / fire scrapper.

    a) he's jumping the gun early and jumping into the group before the tanker taunts take effect.

    b) he's using taunts in his aura/attacks (which I doubt)

You mentioned the scraps have SD (secondary) so are they Shield Charging before the tanks go in? Also, Against All Odds has a taunt mag equivalent to RTTC, but again, either of the tank Taunt should take hold especially if you are taunting everytime it comes up.

Likely, the scrappers are getting aggro before the tanks are.
As i said, one was a lvl 50, im lvl 47, all auto'd to 50, fighting 50's. I know of the taunt component to Against all Odds, and it was his fault for continually using it after faceplanting twice or more per mob, but my question was realy, surely the WP tank, especially the /inv, should be able to get the aggro off a /shd scrapper? He was just as surprised at the amount of aggro he was getting, so i dont believe he had slotted taunts, and by how quick his endu was going, i dont think he had slotted anything. I have a taunt in RttC, which is visibly hitting critters, but their ignoring it until the 'higher threat' of the scrapper is downed, then i get overflow from the other tank. But once the scrappers had it, even the invul couldnt taunt it off them. He could keep what he had, (maybe 7) but couldnt taunt them off the scrappers either.

Maybe just a bizarre instance, i havnt really teamed with a /shd scrapper to know otherwise. But considering the spines / fire was doing ok until the /shd dropped, then she got his runaways until taunt kicked in.
  16. I am using Taunt, almost as soon as it comes up, and have 1 taunt in RttC, as well as using Tremor whenever possible, and knocking loads on their backs, but their jumping back up, and pounding the scrapper again. However, once he's faceplanted, me and the invul are holding two mobs at the same time fine. The scrapper obviously wont turn off his aura, so his own fault, but the time its taking getting them on me after he drops is also problematic to the team.

I do know WP has the weakest tanker aura, but it should be pulling from a scrapper surely?

    *EDIT

Bizarrely, i can keep aggro off a spines / fire scrapper also in the team fine, and the MA / WP scrapper, but the /shd is taking everything.
  17. Ok guys, here's the question:

How on earth do you keep aggro in a team? im doing AE mission's (no debating this here), teamed with another tank /inv, and two /shd scrappers. Im the highest tank at 47, taking alpha's, taunt pulling etc, but as soon as the scrapper enter the fray, (one a 50, one 20summat) all aggro is on them, which their struggling to hold. Now, i know willpower has only a mag 3 taunt aura, compared to all other sets mag 4, but seriously, a lvl 26ish shield scrapper is getting it off me just by entering the mob.

    is it something im doing?
  18. Came on tonight to have a look for other El/DA brutes, thinking there were none! Just levelled mine to 50 tonight, and my word, what a path he's trodden! Obviously, very late now, too late for builds, feel free to message me in game though if im about for advice / info. (/t brutalise-DC @one and only)

I will say though, after doing the last few missions as lead brute, something ive never had to / been able to do, Darkest Night, even unslotted is a herding / aggro godsend. Just make sure you have taunts somewhere to help hold the aggro once its on you, my build up to now has no taunt io's, and i did keep losing straggles. I found each mob could get fury to 90%, even with endu gaining breaks between mobs when needed. Death shroud needs to stay if you plan on tanking, with taunts in it, or obviously take taunt and keep spamming. Dark regen was needed after every alpha, but with darkest night in your mob, they stop hitting you after that pretty much. Didnt take cloak of fear at any point, didnt seem right for a brute, nor opressive gloom, though im tempted to try it.

Im planning on finishing a second build on saturday, ill post up once completed

    Tanker Epics

    [ QUOTE ]
A boss need a double-hold, since he has higher resist to it (minion/lt can be 1 shot hold). IIRC, all hold powers of the epic have the basic 75% to_hit, only the later on aoe's (stalgmites for example) have lowered to hit. A 2x Acc should already be enough to hit +1 min/lt/boss nearly any time, you didnt mentioned what lvl mobs you are fightin; if you're going +4/+5 all the time its pretty logic it wont hit that often

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fighting 50 / 51's atm, but i didnt think i stood much chance of hitting bosses , was a bit of a wild hope lol, hence i was asking, cheers Sinergy!
Time to smack em with total focus some more then

    Tanker Epics

Well Guys, having hit 47 and 48 this weeken, ive tken Block of Ice, and slotted it 3 Accuracy, 1 recharge so far, and it now hits minions every time, and Lieutennts often enough, but refuses to hit on bosses, is there any way to change this? or is that down to the base accuracy or holding values for tanks / epics etc? would be nice to lock those damned psychic carnies out of a battle for a while.

    *EDIT*

or would i be better off grabbing stun at 49 to stop bosses while i slap them silly for a while?
  23. skinbad

    Tanker Epics

Ia ICE completely useless then? i was thinking of grabbing block of ice and slapping some serious ACC and Hold in it for pinning down any psi bosses etc, likely to work?
  24. Congrats El, on your FIFTH 50!!!!

  25. BIG CONGRATULATIONS DEATH BEARER!!!!!!
