Quote:as an addition to this, play both, but do try villains, heroes came first, and many lessons were learned that make the villain process much more streamlined. plus one of our more unique and viscerally enjoyable features is the "mayhem mission" a free roaming (within a set area) mission where you can destroy cars, trucks, and basically most non building and non civilian things(and no, you cant kill civilians,). the official reason is to cause diversion so that you can rob a bank and complete the mission, but once you throw down a good area of effect attack and blow up an everything in a particularly crowded alleyway, or even better a parking lot, you will get a drift as to the real reason to do them. because it makes you feel really powerful.Play Villains. They're more fun.
Brutes are good; Masterminds are sometimes a bit dull until you get used to them (at which point they become awesome); if you like stealth and one-shot killing your opponents try a Stalker.
Better yet try them all, and all the others as well.
Oh, and at level 5 you'll get a pop up from a contact called the Architect Entertainment Manager. IGNORE him. In fact stay out of the AE building altogether, at least for a while until you've seen the world.
And play Villains
heroside, scrappers are the easiest, tanks live longer, but generally have a lower damage output. play one eventually, but to get an overview, try scrappers first. redside, i prefer brutes, for newer players, masterminds are also very strong, and i personally like dominators, but they can be a very vulnerable class if you arent familair with the flow of gameplay, so hold off and brute it first, would be my advice.
oh and a common thing you may hear, blueside=hero content, redside=villain content. just to clear up any semantic confusion. -

Quote:while i was being goofy(this is the guy who has a dragon as his main character, ya know) that actually was a big argument on the tes forums when oblivion came out. the argonians in morrowind did not have breasts, as they were reptiles, in oblivion, they did, and some people got really upset by that.Isn't that kind of missing the point, though? For me, it comes down to a dislike for the mundane and usual, and a preference for fantastic scenes and settings involving weird and wondrous creatures that aren't what you'd see in the everyday world, but retain enough humanity for us to be able to work with on an instinctive basis. Faces, body shapes, personalities and psychology, all of those things are needed to maintain a believable and understandable fictional world. In fact, some of the best antropomorphic works tend to take inhuman characters but treat them like humans anyway.
It's when they start getting off-track into weird crap like laying eggs, shedding skins or basically conforming to the more bizarre of animal biology that it starts to get disturbing. Even for me. -
Quote:heh, you are more organized than i, anything older than a few months is lost to my personal maelstrom.I guess I am the only person with all the boxed full games and expansions on my wall as a badge of honor... I personally have 3 versions of CoV, 2 CoH, and all the other boxes they have sold...
on topic, well, its possible, but as mentioned, it was years before cov was given out, not months, are you willing to wait 2+years to save 30 bucks? a more sensible strategy, if you are prone to wait for things, is waiting for the retail box to go down in price, that would likely be in a few months(most gamestops try to clear pc stuff off their shelves fast) or just get it and enjoy it, as i plan to do. -
why would a reptile have breasts?
the sad thing is, now i'm wondering how close you can approximate that look ingame. not even as an alt, but when i see different outfits, i feel compelled to see how close i can come to them ingame. not sure about the top, and the skirt wouldnt have the buttons and pockets, but the shoulders look familiar. -
skip[ping missions in something that is to be in the canon story of your character is characteristic of a mindset that is completely alien to me.

Quote:you will have that Rocky horror picture show themed sg yet. dont dream it BE IT.AND cigars for women, cigarettes for everyone, and corsets and fishnet hose for men!Quote:Animated tails are not capes. They're nearly identical to how we do wings, but a much simpler rig. (Not too much more expensive than a bow when you really get down to it.)
They've also been put on their own costume node and will now show up under "Lower Body". Which will mean you can do a Belt and a Tail (animated or static) on the same character. Unfortunately, that means the tails under the belt category are being flagged as legacy. So if you want to keep your current, non-animated tail, you'll still need to go in and select that costume part from the lower body the next time you edit your costume at the tailor. -

Well, that is nice. one thing i am wondering, re:the tails. i remember a while ago, babs twittered about seperating tails from belts, would that be coming as one of th qol improvements? also, given the old rule about the number of animated objects, will tails preclude wings? finally, can we finally get tails with robes?

I will go out on a limb, and say i think there may be something that isnt a powerset but additional advancement options for the continuing after 50 stuff. not sure what, but i just have a feeling that there might be more to thatt han we can reallyd escribe under the current power setup.
-
dude, its 15 bucks(at max valuation, i haven't paid that much for a month in years) that is about how much i earn on break in a day. perceived value is what it is, I can play two powersets months before the expansion comes out, if that is worth the "15 dollar " difference, then there you go, if not, then you can wait and get the boxed set. It isnt greedy, and it isnt squeezing anyone, it is offering a unique option ahead of time, period.

Quote:dunno, have some guesses, in the competing game with voice acting, i listen to it once, maybe and then hammer the skip button furiously every time thereafter. for the costs of putting it in the game, does it really provide major bang for the buck? As for the cinemas, Im guessing part of it deals with having multiple players at different points of the cinemas...am i going to be happy if my support guys still are in the cinemas while I am being leg-humped by romulus? Plus, when ma was coming out, it was strongly hinted that doing cinemas is not a fast nor efficient system, so while cinemas are nice, how many resources are being hogged by them for something that i am not going to skip after the first 2 times i do it?Thanks for the thoughtful reply, but I'm disappointed by what you had to say about COH and I disagree that there aren't better ways of doing things. Text has it's place, but games are an interactive medium. COH could be so much more immersive. Why not have voice acting in some select parts? Why not have more cut-scenes (via in game engine or CGI).
I'm not adverse to either of those things, I just feel that they are largely superficial, and that the text does a pretty good job of doing what it has to. -
You know, im weird, this long and i never played a mastermind past level 10, no reason, they seem fun, but i just never did, but i have leveled numerous dominators, i love them

well, yeah, we knew that you would be upset about it, i doubt anyone is surprised there, but i mean the rest of us. We cant make the buy yet, and have no reason to conclude that between now and that date that no new information will be released, in fact one would have to have a major chip on one's shoulder to make such a inference. that said, its an expansion, and given the number of "vested" players that this game has, a sale is kind of a foregone conclusion if you are a 5 year or so vet, copious net-complaining or not, if you have been here that long, you are likely going to go with the flow, because otherwise you will be playing the game with a portion of content missing relative to the other players.
now as for the cash grab, perdition to felines notwitstanding, curiosity compels me, what does that mean to you? Paragon studios is a company, so producing products for money is kind of their reason for being, the seeming bone of contention is a cost that varies between 10-15 dollars, depending on your subscription plan, which one can forfiet for the right to play a new power set months before anyone else can, and really before any of us could have expected to, prior to the announcement. so what is the grab here? anyone who wants can wait and get the pack later and get the extra month(outside of the real issue with non-us players for whom i do hope somethign is worked out), but outside of expecting a transaction of money for goods, what is the cash grab, i'm just not seeing it. Im seeing a slightly convoluted but standard method of sales here, with an added bonus for people willing to put down the cash early, something fairly common in mmos. -
this is why im bringing a robotics mastermind over, no ambiguity.
-
ok, having gotten some sleep, this method is a little confusing to some, but I think some people are getting hung up on the free month being 15 dollars, lets remember that that only is if you are on a monthly billing structure, the value for people on longer set-ups will be less, and I suspect that people who are invested enough in the game to prepurchase months ahead of the actual relwease, well , i suspect that a healthy portion of those players already are on the longer billing cycles, in fact i suspect that a good number are just now running down their holdiay deals, and may have, like myself, already signed on for the deal offered last summer, so for a lot of us, the free month would be 10 dollars or slightly above. It is still money, and if the ultimate pack costs more than 10 bucks i will be raising heck up in harlem, but it looks less dumb than it did last night, it still appears to be confusing to a number of people though..
-
ok, honestly, this is convoluted beyond necessity. It also , for lack of a better word, kind of stupid. I REALLY hope that they dont charge above 9.99 for the pack, that would be initial vibora bay announcement level bad. beyond that, it isnt ideal, but i am getting it, I will pre-purchase and if the pack is more than 10 buck, then i will complain loudly, but will still get it.
I will give them credit with the earlya ccess powerset thing. essentially that turns players into ingame billboards for other players. Player a prepurchases and teams with player b, who was vacillating between purchase of the expansion and doesnt muck about with the test server. player a has the new shineys and player b gets essentially a gr commercial throughout his teaming experience. player b buys the expansion, and paragon didnt really need to do anything, not unclever(unlike the method of delivery) -
I have said it before, and i stand by it, people who consider trivial inconveniences slaps in the face need to be slapped in the face more often to have a better frame of reference.
I got my keld and soa long ago, and I am thrilled that they lowered it. -

I think the pvp situation is more about the population than mechanics. there will always be a dedicated group, but in general The population was built on pve, and the larger population never really will care, no matter what happens. I doubt side switching will help that. Hopefully, however, the ability to play both sides will help the population redside though.

So far none of my defenders have fitness, and i attack a lot. so that is a emp/elec/elec level 50, a rad/rad at level 41, and i have 2 coming up, a dark/dark and cold/sonic, but they a e only at early 20s so i cant speak on that, the dark might not make it, toggles tend to make me more likely to take fitness. oddly i find controllers a to harder to go stamina-less, my ice/storm demanded fitness.

plus, has there been other news? we discussed what has been put out, its nice, but there will be more, and we can react then.
