    In the words of a wise man;
"Some people just want to watch the world burn."
that is the issue though, batman is not at fault for letting the joker walk so often. functioning society requires competent capacity to hold criminals, arkam is a mess, but it is the fault of the people, not batman. if batman is supposed to be the executioner of the people because they are too stupid to correctly shackle a man who has no super powers, then it would be an interesting social commentary, but its not the idea of batman. besides, consider commissioner gordon in a killing joke, he specifically requests that batman does the right thing, even after being put through the worst the joker had, civilization held on.

and as for my character versus the joker? he'd knock him out like anyone else and then admonish the police to "pay some freaking attention with this one". man cannot blame the fickleness of the gods for his misfortune when it is borne of his own stupidity.

well, this kind of is a nuanced answer. the last set we got was in issue 15 with the ulterior set, as well as a new general use pattern "vines" . that said, while this was babs and not jay's doing, issue 16 introduced power customization and animation customization, which were player controlled aesthetic elements that allowed us to refine our character in much the same way that costumes do, so while they weren't technically outfit pieces, they served largely the same function as costume elements, customization and individual creativity. issue 17 also introduced animated tails, again babs deal, but a significant addition that has been asked for since beta, and also leads to the topic of a discussion iw as having with a fellow coh player, the shift in artistic direction of coh from a bunch of costume pieces that kind of work together to a new heavier emphasis on very intricate and detailed sets that often mix and match poorly with other costume sets.

exproto was one good example since the upper torso had straps continuing past the dividing line to lower body, the costume sometimes looked odd when linked with a smooth set of lower body options. now, the sets look great with each other, and that certainly is not bad thing, but one of the things that attracted a lot of us was the ability to take a number of dissimilar options throw them together and make something uniquely ours, so gettign sets that look amazing together but seem to transition clumsily into others can be problematic, at least when they become the norm, rather than a few really amazing but thematically exclusive bits.
  3. (WARNING: lots of video links to public access style martial arts instructional videos ahead, i cant speak for the quality and production values of the demonstrators, but i selected the vids because they best showed the techniques as i had envisioned them, much butt-rock awaits)

ok dave, haven't gone through the whole thread, but for animation, my interests
primarily are in more alternate animations, particularly for martial arts. though i would also be interested in replacements for melee based attacks from the elemental sets(energy, electric, fire and ice spring to mind) i have mentioned these a few times, but since this thread is the main area for it, ell, it seems appropriate. i usually mention getting moves from a few martial art styles, muay thai, capoeria, what i called "movie kung0-fu) and korean karate are my usual suggestions. this list seems like it needs a bit of expansion though for here.

first, it seems that kinetic melee is, from the pax vid, going to address the movie kung fu idea(i called it that because there are hundreds of different styles of kung fu, often with indistinguishable differences, but we all generally know the showy style with primarily open handed strikes from movies and fighting games) so while id love to see the two share some animations, this would remove some priority.

for muai thai, the punches we recently got would do a pretty good job of covering the hand portion of the style, but my thought would be using the style's roundhouse kick heavy style for replaces for storm kick, with a low leg strike. example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcPIJ...eature=related this is similar to the current storm kick, but delivered at thigh level, and with rotation of the hips to sell it more. replace crane kick with a high roundhouse strike to the head(example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3B3e...eature=related)., preferably with a full follow through of the foot through the target, and finally, for eagles claw, perhaps replace that with the jumping knee(sagat's tiger knee from street fighter 2 being a good example).

the next style i was asking for moves for was capoeria, this would possibly be tricky for characers wearing skirts, due to the occasional standing on their hands in some techniques, , but a few techniques struck me as unique enough to add value as animation replacers. the first is called a mei lua de compasso. it involves a full body turn, so i'd see it possibly being a replace for axe kick. in videos i have seen it delivered higher and low, preferably aiming it at average head height would make it look dynamic. here is a fair idea what i am going for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n94G...eature=related The other capoeria technique that i feel would be a nice addition would be the parafuso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7--b1h-kY0 again, this technique is similar to what we use in the thunder kick now, but the added lift of the first leg and more dynamic full body follow through would make it another good heavy hitter animation for an eagles claw replacer.

finally i mentioned the korean karate variation, now i have generally felt that this was the style coh was originally going for, given how strong their variation of the side kick in it was, as well as since they use the axe kick, which generally is less popular in japanese and most chines styles that i have seen. but in coh there are a few elements that the current animations do poorly and i would love to see the option of having better versions of them.

First, the storm kick seems to be attempting to be a roundhouse kick, but the limited hip movement and lack of chambering of the knee prior to striking really break immersion for me, the coh version looks like a very LAZY roundhouse kick(note, i am saying the martial artist doing this would be being lazy, not calling animator lazy). a variation i woudl like to see is in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfSfiOxsfTo you will notice what i am talking about with the chambering of the knee, it really does sell the kick more.

the next technique that id like to see fixed would be the side kick in "crane kick" its a strong technique in game, but the application again looks lazy. I would love if we had an option where the character brought their knee up higher, pushed more with their body toward the target when striking, and extended their heel more to make the contact look more crisp. heres another example, i apologize for the butt-rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfSfiOxsfTo

ok that is my alternate animations selection for the martial arts set. it is thematically my absolute favorite set, and when alternate animations were announced, it was literally a bigger thing to me than inventions, ae or going rogue, now if you have the time and resources to add a few of these techniques I would be thrilled. if their animations could fit existing animation times, perhaps some of these strikes could be put in the elemental sets as alternates as well with flames, sparks and the like appearing on the feet when the strikes are delivered.

I suppose it also strikes me as odd to have an expansion revolve around the Praetorians when they've never really been that significant of an enemy.

Not that I won't get it because of the lore or anything, just nitpicking.
maybe, i was immensely surprised that they used praetoria, because as i said, i previously disliked it, but they did make the reboot make sense, and it introduced a version of paraetoria that was mostly consistant with their prior characterization but fleshed out enough to be interesting. I do expect both states and recluse to be reenergized(perhaps a better term for my view of it than a reboot) in the future, maybe they will take a more actie role since they will soon be being joined with a lot of new incarnates. frankly i'd like to see the phlanx, vindicators and recluse's lieutenants getting some personality added as well, but the paretoria thing does make sense, lore wise, so i can accept it.
  5. would i buy it? eh, i buy everything coh anyhow. but there would be a significant change from what we see even now. gr clearly had a long lead up and it did seem to affect the size of the issues, so going into a permanent cycle of them would mean that issues would go to be gone. and that would need to be reflected in a change in the price. Yes i know that technically the sub price is for server access, but the reality is that for 15 a month, we expect continued development, and acces included therein. but as is aid, i enjoy coh, and i would likely keep up with what is going on in it, so i woudl buy it, but the idea would make me nervous. i think it would lose people and not gain new ones to replace them.
  6. you know, had you asked me a year and a half ago about tyrant, i would have snarled at you and called the whole endgame of the goatee paragon nonsense to be garbage, seeing how the reboot of tyrant to being this multi-textured and nuanced shows me that they could make states and recluse pop again, they just haven't yet. there are a lot of really cool threads of storyline out there with things like the sleeper under dark astoria, merluna's silence, the coming storm, the game is rife with plot potential, so so it really depends on what hey choose to deal with.
  7. happy birthday ocho, im going to go make a thread about religion, politics and favored pizza topping in your hono...why is this red dot on my forehead?

see, i actully would enjoy lying about it, they know they are crossing a line of civility by asking me if i were in, so if i were, no social constraints would be there to keep me from screwing with them. its like pick-pocketing a guy who tries to mug you, my ethics are in the free and clear

They'll also want i20 to drop 2-3 months after DCUO goes live to pick up any people that just aren't feeling it, but got a taste of superheroes and want more.

Their hard work hasn't even begun yet imo.

That means that if they have pushed GR back to Sept they will need to push out a whole additional issue in less than 2 months...Of course if GR is utterly amazing then they can continue with the trickle rate of releases. But from what we've heard it is mostly going to be the low levels and a tiny piece of the new end game system. Suffice to say, I'm confident that amount of content will be devoured in a very short time period.

Again, not a doom call, just saying what is necessary to retain a customer like me at this stage of the game. For me they already played the loyalty card over the last year and a bit. They need to deliver, which they have said they are going to. So I'll gladly give them a shot.
eh, I think its better to just plan to try dcou. betting the farm on what your imagination(generally speaking, not just you) can come up as new and innovative will always, regardless of the game, let you down, because your imagination lacks the programming limitations of a game. Furthermore, looking at the competition gives you ideas of what to suggest here, as well as what to appreciate here that the other guys missed (CO made me appreciate lower level mob damage scaling, our toggle defences, and the importance of archetypes, personally) . So rather than getting in idea in your mind that coh will have to package a massive gaming revolution in a 30 dollar gaming expansion, its probably better to just expect something solid and try dcou yourself. The announcement of the subscription model had kind of hobbled dcou for me, myself, but even so, i intend to try it for completeness sake, just maintaining realistic expectations, the dc license means absolutely nothing to me so to me its another shot at getting the superhero mmo formula right, thats all. If recall(and with my memory, this is about a 20%chance of happening) you were interested in co as well, making some similar claims, and then returned after not finding co as good as it was hyped to be, lets see if dcou fares better, that is just how the industry goes.

Several times I've wished I'd remembered to do that, both times through the Khan TF I've had nobody die...and we roflpwned everything in there...
the only area where i would be annoyed with this, is the "once we were full" bit. You do feel obligated, once you start, to help out, the best i would say is when inviting, let people know that it may be a masters run, that way i'm not ruining you and 6 other people fun if i decide that id prefer a nice, quiet evening of sticking barbecue skewers through my toes than get thrown in the cattle run. otherwise, its all good.
  15. if i recall, that was posi at herocon last yea, he was asked if there would be beast parts in the natural pack, and he replied that sounds more like the mutant pack. again, i don't have the exact quote , it was relayed to us by various posters who were there, but that was where i had gotten the assumption of more beast parts from.

trust me, i know where i stand on new beast parts, i just don't like seeing a guy get roasted without proper evidence. It has happened to me in the past, and possibly like jay, i was unable to defend myself thanks to management interference, and worry that speaking would just get me more torn apart by people who weren't being rational at that point already. so thats why im trying to call for rationality and not just assuming guilt. sometimes you cant defend yourself due to professional restrictions, but in order to keep a healthy relationship between the developers and players that we have now, we cant go burning people at the stake because of something we are sure we read, but cant find now, nor can we remember the exact words or or context, it just isn't fair, and would only encourage developers to stay away from here for fear of becoming the next victim.
  16. in that case sam, i question your memory, because i tend to follow jay's posts very closely and have never seen him post on the topic, ever. unless the post was posted and instantly removed, or posted well before i became active on the forums, which is unlikely since most "beast" options were introduced in issue 6, then i do question it. if you can link, then fine, but otherwise i have serious doubts that it was ever posted. i frequently check the past posts of devs, partly as an idle hobby when the forums are slow, and partly to see how styles evolve over time, and since jay is one of the developers who's work tends to be of high importance to me, i follow him pretty closely. so I am forced to doubt that i missed his post, unless it was in a thread that was moderated out of existence within a few days of posting and i missed it. Other than that i am forced to challenge that he ever posted on the matter, whether it is a misremembering or simply a interpretation of a comment, i am going to have to require something stronger than just your word, particularly since it is on a subject that i myself have kept an eye on and have not seen it.

furthermore, the mutant pack does have nonhuman looking pieces, holding overly specific notions of what is and is not nonhuman does lead to you setting yourself up to be disappointed, as well as forces a incorrect affirmation of your points. the luminous parts especially have been shown to make a very convincinf sea-themed character, as well as an impressive alien, if we are saying that for something to be beast it must contain some specific parts, then we set ourselves up for what becomes a self-fulfilling disappointment unless we are particularly specific about exactly what we want, assuming consensus could be reached among the forum goers in question, and they directly affirm that they have read them and are addressing them.

and no, i am not insulting your intelligence, i was doing a south park reference, i am questioning your sense of humor, as well as your ability to retain rational perspective in a discussion.
  17. then sam would be absolutely convinced that one time he totally said he hated steam-punk costume bits and hates steampunkers, citing the twin damning pieces of evidence that there have been no new steampunk bits AND, that chewbacca was a wookie and not an ewok,i didnt quite catch the whole of his second point, to be honest.
  18. if they are not advertised, it can be annoying. i did a lrsf for the first time a few weeks ago..and i have no idea at all what happened, basically you were dragged by your teammates to run like heck through groups of hostile enemies, made to feel like you were holding the team back if you had no idea what the hell you were to do or have a slower computer, and basically it was a massively unpleasent experience. do them all you want, but warn people that the tf is going to be a higher pressure situation. I didnt quit because i joined and implicitly committed to it, but had the full terms been disclosed, i would not have joined.

oh @#$$%%ing hell. what did we get in issue 17 again? animated tails? look, sam, the reasoning that a person is guilty until proven innocent against claims that cannot even be produced is a witch hunt, not a reasonable stance. 21. wrong tech, the quote attributed to him usually comes from the generally very reliable poster zekerian immortal, she attributes it to a panel that he had at a convention, where he made a comment that has never been fully transcribed nor given full context, but indicated that he wasn't interested in doing more "furry" costume pieces. as i mentioned, he has never commented on the boards(i tend to follow his posts heavily, since extensive costume pieces are my main reason for staying in the superhero genre) And honestly, i don't blame him, i see 3 possibilities, and none of them are ones that will work out well for him.
    A. he doesn't like furries at all. well, understandably, that is going to lead to a vocal group of players wanting his skull as a drinking goblet.

    b. he really might not be a big fan of them, doesnt care, or just feels that the superhero comics that he is drawing inspiration from really dont have a lot of anthro characters. Keep in mind that since he has become prevalent, his output has largely been full costume sets, usually tech or layered spandex looks, it has really been fairly consistent with stealth, technbot, tech sleek, exproto, even justice and sinister, he has a fairly consistant style. ok, that answer is wishy washy, nobody is going to let that dog lie(yuk yuk) all that will do is lead to more stress and more nagging for a more significant commitment.

    c. ok he is cool with furries, likes them even. and the wrath of the 4chan-tard comes down on him and he has to deal with the nagging of a generally unpleasant group of people biting his butt with their usual d-baggishness, disrupting the forums and costume threads. additionally the newly placated anthro fans will now expect a significant commitment of development resources that he simply is not capable of commit to.

do you see a win in this? honestly, i see him pretty much eating a twix bar at this point, because saying anything, even in his typically opaque nature, can only lead to a continual worsening of his day for a significant time. and i say this as a supporter of more monsterous parts, particularly draconic and aqutic themed ones, it is not a fight that is smart to wade into., David has done some good work for us, this is a superhero game, so a balance of maturity and demand is perhaps the most prudent thing to do. I have worked with you in these threads a lot tech, but your reasoning is becoming a witch hunt, and i'm not following you to the lengths you are reaching now.
