to be fair, in comics, they rarely have him blasting people square in the face. its usually about using his fire to entrap or disarm enemies, and only directly attacking non-humans(species bias, i tell ya) or machines. in coh we toss a flaming fireball directly in a purse snatcher's chest, thats gotta leave a mark. I sympathize with the op's feelings but its one of those situations where games are limted in how many people it can make happy at once.

i understand that you are probably just being silly, but we have had the "city of drizzet" worriers with dual blades, city of "captain america" complainers with shields, even had some people scared of bows because everyone will just make legolas(apparently coh doesn't have much of a inu-yasha fanbase, i had a kagome alike in beta). and really, neither really stayed long. people do a dumb joke and move on, this should never be a real concern, so long as its far enough that nobody can get sued.
  3. when i delete them or quit the game. beyond that they still come out for thematically appropriate events and badges.

Do you think Batman would suddenly start using a machine gun just because he figures the bad guy will get to the hospital before dying? I doubt it. I'd just like to have more options for non-lethal force.
originally, batman DID use a gun, actually. and just because the fire guy from the fantastic four just shoots flames near enemies, it still takes a significant sense of suspension of disbeleif to imagine the fires not sometimes getting out of control and severely burning some thugs whose real crime was not checking his employer's background enough. and encasing people in solid ice (as iceman did) had no risk of causing frostbite, hypothermia, or severe injuries from jagged edges? we always engaged in a kind of "dont ask, dont tell" with comics, this is just in the game.

oh, and the staff set has been discussed a lot,a nd there is significant interest, dont know where you got the no interest thing there. Significant conceptual ironing is needed though, and i wouldn't expect it soon, but the demand is there and has been noted.
  5. well, the short answer is, we defeat opponents, not kill them, in fact, we often get to chat with them post fight in the clues section, and often fight them again and again. The longer answer is that having heroes defeat bad guys with weapons that should be killing them is a time honored tradition in comics, cartoons and movies. outside of the original comics, the ninja turtles rarely killed, despite using a pair of katanas, shuriken, and several other weapons that should rip opponents apart. gi-joe (the cartoon at least)reach absurdist comedy with how a full military engagement could have no fatalities whatsoever. and the reason for that is very likely the reason for why coh is as it is. weapons look cool when used correctly, if all katana was was swatting people with the flat of the blade, it would look cumbersome, but some people, myself included, feel a little queasy at the idea of disemboweling someone over a purse snatching, so the devs pretty much lampshade it by mentioning defeats. If youd like to use my justification, the mediporters can restore heroes from any form of damage instantaneously, after beating a bad guy down, who is to say that you dont toss a bunch of portable detention mediporters and port the beaten enemies into a modified version that ports them safely, though under a power dampening field, into the zig? Its a game, the descriptions are your own, even on seemingly brutal sets like assault rifle and thorns(rubber crowd control bullets and acupuncture accurate spine shots). as another option, as gg said, there is the martial arts set, overlooking the trauma that kicking a person hard enough to launch them across a street would cause, you cna pretend you are using a nerve point paralysation technique and all the baddies are merely sore after a mission.
  6. so far gor my very old grav/forcefields controller from 15-18, got my ice/storm from 26-28 got a level on my brute, and got 2 levels on my bs/shield scrapper. not bad overall.

well, given that the event is real and is planned for two weekends from now, we absolutely know we are getting some info. what kind, we dunno, its hard to quantify posi's comment, as to there being more than he expected, but if i were to wager, id say we will get a lot of info, maybe some systems stuff he thought they would wait on revealing. Some posters have guessed that the closed beta may start near to then, I cant say id be surprised..and given my vet status, i cant say id be disappointed

as for the restriction of info, i guess it can be annoying, but we knew that there was a major reveal event, id be surprised if they started dropping significant info before that. That would deflate the sails of the event somewhat. the most id expect would a few cryptic statements made this week to get us properly salivating.

Cobra Strike could have used a snake or mantis style finger strike. Crane Kick could use a 'U-punch' style substitute. Just to give a few ideas.
agreed entirely, but you know how we had all those threads for the "street fighting" set? presumably we got that for the first pass, as it killed two birds with one stone, it demonstrated the new system and addressed the concerns. the potential for them to get good is there, now babs just needs to make it a reality. your ideas fit my "movie kung fu" set that i mentioned earlier, so im hoping they listen to the two of us.

click the drop down of the powers, you should have a dark and light option for each animation(classic and new), its based on the costumes, so you can have a kicky costume, a punchy one, and mix , or any combination you like. also, to your second question, super strength also got changes. they got more "heroic" looking, ko blow got the optimus prime punch. check em out. also, new spines/thorns options, not animations, but since they were left out of weapon customization, the new ones look nice and show correctly on targets when tossed.
  10. I am with you sammy, the alternate animations were the most important thing issue 16 did for me, of a list of several good ones. For one thing, it means the game has another dimension to expand, if each power can be reanimated, then the systems flexibility can allow it to refresh even old content. Also, lets face it, people wanted street fighting, making another unarmed smashing set and keeping it distinct would have been a challenge, this was definitely the best way of handling things.

but now babs got a special little annoying dragon on his (forum)shoulder, because you cant just give me a hit of the good stuff and leave me hanging. My ideal would be fore there to be sets of animations based on several martial arts. my usual suspects are a "movie kung-fu"set, that would consist of several open palmed strikes and circular kicks. a"muai thai" set which includes conventional boxing strikes and the instep using roundhouse kicks that thai kickboxing is known for(for the eagle's claw, i envisoned a flying knee strike, similar to sagat's tiger knee). a capoeria styled set with fast, acrobatic spinning kicks and few hand techniques. and finlly a korean set(the name is a bodge, its based on tae kwon/tang soo/hwarang do) the default animations are close to this already, but as i have made several posts on the subject, they miss key factors, like proper turning of the supporting foot, proper chambering of the knee and hip rotation, and a lack of a real snap-back post strike for crane and storm. so a real tae kwon set would fit my personal preferences strongly.

now i wonder if we will have an option of changing some of the elemental strikes...maybe some kicks...i know a good dramatic kick for thunderous strike would make my dom happy, and once epics are addressed, my defender too. we can color the swooshes of the martial arts effects already, so i hope it is possible.

figure of speech, I would lobby heavily for the ice and curved sword, the others would be nice but wouldnt be as strenuously advocated.
  12. yeah, the ring sword is something i have been bugging for a while. it reminds me of the chinese broadsword (Dao), not a perfect match, the hilt isnt curved, but its close enough for me to be happy. this game has a lot of japanese options, and i am quite happy for it, but for characters with chinese characters , those would be nice, even cooler if babs would modify them and make then nine ring broadswords.

the ice sword is good, and really i am hoping that one side effect of issue 16 is that we will soon see as many options for the elemental weapons sets as we currently see for the conventional ones. that would be one of the 3 great perks of i16 for me, so heck yeah on the ice sword, space robot 5 would gladly have that on one of his costumes. the coralax stuff would be nice too, but since i dont have any macers, im not as excited as i am for the Dao and the ice sword.

Aside from that, can I have a sheath costume piece? I'm tired of sticking this Broad Sword up my butt!
unknown, but unlikely. the closed beta hasnt started yet, that we are aware of, and is unlikely to start before herocon, thats only 2 months to test, id be very surprised, maybe not happily, im hoping for a lot of content that will need tested. My uneducated guess is march 21st, seems to be a date a lot of better caliber games hit, would give them a third of a year to test, and just generally feels likely to me. if im wrong, no surprise, im guessing, if im right i want some pizza.

as for what i want, given the lack of these in the last few issues, im expecting that the mission content and costume guys have been making a lot of content, if its less than going rogue, i will be disappointed. we know that there will be the alignment bar, so some degree of interaction in missions is likely. various personal dev quotes indicate that more high level content is coming, and some extra advancement options have seemingly been hinted as well, im expecting those.

One thing id like to see is back options, i recall years ago a comment being made that there are a number of backpacks already made, im hoping we see them. In you-know-where, i have back options on all of my characters, and its an aesthetic option that i like. If those are in gr, i will be break dancing in the main street. if they could throw in throwing, then the dance will continue till the break of dawn.
  14. yes, If they do the distributed perks thing again, I will look for the best one for my interest, but there is absolutly no question whatsoever that i will be getting this, and getting it as soon as possible.

    Yo!

better to take our conceptual medicine now rather than go live too awesome and have a reduction later i guess.
  16. rian_frostdrake

    Yo!

oh, and if you can check the forums, going rogue info should be hitting around the 24-25th, i know you were interested in that.
  17. rian_frostdrake

    Yo!

ah good, was going to tell you to try the stone doms, they are muy fun, but you appear to have already found that little chestnut.

  20. mmos have a natural tendency to lead to people acting in a tribalistic fashion, defend the ingroup and trash the outsiders. combined with the inelegance of most gamers in online communications, really its somewhat expected. As it stands we will have a better idea of where coh stands in about 2 weeks. till then its all just guessing.

If Aion does well, it might just tell NCsoft HQ that transferring Korean developed MMOs to the Western market is a better strategy than having Western studios develop their own MMOs. So why bother continuing to develop a MMO with a comparatively small player base that failed in Korea?
Lets be honest though, dungeon runners was not just tossed tot he wolves, they tried to shuffle the subscription style model twice that i recall, they did the ingame ads thing, and even tried helping it with shelf presence. It seems more that a game dies when it is so fundamentally unsalvageable that there is no option otherwise(or its too much of a debt hole from extended development, like tabula rasa). I doubt that even in your direst predictions about subscription numbers that coh is in that position.

I would be surprised if any info given at the con was not reposted on the boards quickly, either by the official route, or the players who are there.

swell, the way i read it, the nda is for the closed beta "reward" for going there, not for the info disseminated at the actual con
  24. i like side missions on both sides, they allow a sort of variety to the game from the standard beat everyone up and click one glowie missions we tend to get, plus the badges look cool, so you may not be the only one, but you are one of the only ones i have heard of.
