Didn't take me to long to go through them and resize the big ones though. Probably go back later and re-save some of the smaller ones too. Seems like a lot of my old stuff was a bit on the larger side.

That being said... Most of my images are likely over 50kb.

    And thanks for the message!
I generally use the Save For the Web options in Photoshop. It'll let you adjust the quality settings at a finer level and get a much smaller file size while retaining the quality for the web.

That said... I can tell which ones I uploaded when I wasn't home. >_< I have a couple that are a bit over 100 KB too.

File space is starting to become tight. This is mostly a result of people uploading large files or large amounts of files. The admin is going to try to spend time identify the large files, but it would be extremely helpful if users could go through their own file uploads and resize anything over 100 KBs to under 100KB, preferably under 50 KB. Also make sure if you have images uploaded you are no longer using to mark those images for deletion.
Since Kade didn't mention how to do this, it is simple:
    1. Go to your user page, then click on the User Contributions link on the left menu.
    2. Change the namespace in the drop down to Image and it'll list any actions you completed under the image namespace.

To mark a image for deletion then go to the image, edit it and add [[Category: Deletion Request]].

Was that the 6 PM raid or the 7 PM one? I never stay for the second one.

For the 6 PM one we cleared the first two blooms then powered through the last two taking down Hamidon.
  6. Yeah its generally permissions in Vista.

I avoided all of that weirdness by just installing the game to a separate hard drive with my other games and ensuring its running as an administrator.

The sad thing is that it was from a GM that normally know what is going on.

I guess I had better tell my sever to get all three nukes for Hami.
We did Hami Red side on Sunday on virtue and didn't need nukes. The greens took a bit longer but nothing obnoxious, we still finished in about the time it normally takes.

See my post. Its an incredibly high up front cost to dev for the iPhone then you have to hope it gets approved by the Apple overlords.

Most of us freelance developers can't afford that upfront.

Contrasted to Android, which has no upfront costs associated and is open ^_^

I think my real question would be what exactly would people want to do on their phone? Everything I can think of would require us to have access to something like the City Vault or game data as an API, which as far as Ghost Falcon has told us, won't be happening anytime soon due to liability issues.

You can get to something like mids online now, there is a web version (obviously not as robust) http://www.cohplanner.com/

Not sure how well that works on a phone. But the easier way to do that, without needing to develop and app would be to request a mobile version of SuckerPunch's online planner.

I cant find squat.. and I find that hard to believe... but then again.. I think that all over MMOs are epic Fail compared to CoH

anyone know of one or plans for one?

and yes.. I am bored at work.. and ansey about them releasing Issue 17 today!! sorry...
Sure you buy me an Intel based mac (can only dev iPhone apps on a Intel Based mac) and pay my developers fee ($100/year) and I'll dev you a app for the iPhone.

... actually no, Apple sucks and their platform is a closed caged garden I don't really want to deal with. I may consider something for Android however.

Hey guys I just want to drop a secondary note here.

I sent Kadekawa a text message to let him know something was up, I know he's been incredibly busy with some projects and was out of the country for awhile as well so its highly likely he forgot.

So hopefully it'll be resolved soon ^_^
  13. Just a note.

These are the times the raids START. It is advisable that if you wish to attend you should arrive EARLY.

Villain side on Sundays this means 30-60 minutes prior.

Hero side... I honestly don't know but I've heard 3 hours early from other people.

Worth area and we have all sorts of sci-fi/anime/fantasy/comic cons roll through here all the time. Heck, hit the right ones and you can hobnob with folks from Star Wars.

Fundamentally though, you guys really need to get the word out there more. Hit cons all over the place even if it's just with a small crew to raise visibility. Be loud and proud of what this game is and refuse to ever let some upstart like CO steal your thunder. Get into the comic and gaming shops more. Sceam it from the rooftops if that helps but get the word around however you can.

And frankly, if you guys were paying the fees and providing the swag and perks, I'd bet you could get plenty of volunteers to run booths at cons you can't get a big official presence at. Send out a lackey to help coordinate and keep things official and you'd be good to go I'd bet.
The problem is that attending a convention is an expensive prospect for any company to undertake. So the convention has to have a return on their investment. Because you're paying the wages of staff that go along with air fare, accommodations and probably food while they're off site.

I know that they've attended PAX (Prime and now East) and HeroCon.

PAX pulls 50-60k in people. Its a game oriented expo. Its very targeted marketing to a very large amount of a core audience. Its also a professional expo, not a fan event.

But I don't think there are any conventions in the midwest that are targeted to gaming or comics that pulls the numbers that would be needed to make the cost of going worth it.

I think the only one not on a coast that might be worth it is the Wizard convention in Chicago.

    PAX Prime is in September.

When it comes to conventions really the way to get people to want to play the game is letting them play it. It would be cool if CoX did some sort of game tourney at PAX. Like pit some groups against each other with different difficulty settings.

I know for me watching my other half play is what really got me to want to play, that combined with just getting to mess around in the character creator.

As for in game advertising, have you guys ever thought to open this up to players? I mean charge a nominal fee and let super groups and such do advertising on their server for recruitment. Or for the events people to put up billboards for upcoming events.

It makes some money, uses the system that isn't being used right now, and its not advertising likely to urk people. Just make sure it gets moderated because obviously ads shouldn't stand out to much.
  18. This isn't as much of a map request but I didn't see a general AE request thread.

Would it be possible to have the Sepia effect available in AE? Where when you enter the mission begins sepia toned and it fades out.

I do realize that this thread is almost a year old, but it seemed to be the most logical place to post it.
I don't do blue side raids, but I'd advise anyone who wants to do them come 3 HOURS before the raid time. The time listed is the hopeful start time, but if the hive fills before start time they'll just go ahead and start.

So come early, idle off and make munchies, read the internets.

For vill side raids, least on Sunday generally getting there an hour to 30 minutes ahead is a good idea, the abyss generally fills by start time.

*scratches head* But ok, help me out here. Why exactly do people need to buy EoEs?

I mean, if we really were short the raid organizers would just put together a team night to hit up monster island and restock. Thats actually how our initial pile of EoE's started.

And generally in most raids people get enough EoE's as drops to negate the necessity to buy them.

I mean... and maybe i'm wrong on this, but I think the only people buying EoEs are people running LGTFs...

    Just saying...

So I guess what I'm saying is I would like more folks to list EoEs for sale on the black market.

As of last night there were 15 EoEs listed for sale (all mine) and over 80 bids. To encourage folks to find other supplies I'm no longer listing all my EoEs at 1M, but instead in progressively increasing amounts.

So once again thanks for the infamy and I hope to join a raid at some point. (I even transfered a lvl 50 Son/Kin Cor to Virtue from Victory.)
Urm.... me and Trac-tor come to the raids generally with half a tray full of EoEs. We keep a stash in our base and readily share with anyone who needs it. I'm sure actually a lot of other people do the same.

If you need EoEs at the raid just ask. Generally no need to buy them unless I'm missing something. Especially since for most of the recent raids (except the last one I was at Sunday) Monster clearing went long, thus lots of EoE drops.

This would have to go hand in hand with changing the drop rates (which in turn could alleviate the need for a cap).

Then the remaining issue would be how to limit loot farming from over-influencing the market; which I also made a suggestion on more recently.

[I wouldn't even have it drop Salvage]
What about those of us who use this as an alternate path to leveling because we're bored to tears of the crappy heroside content? My SG does this, we create custom arcs and stories and run them as a group. That group spans across a variety of levels.

The last thing I want to do is punish a SG member who is new and on a lower toon for coming to a SG story event by not letting them gain XP. Thats not a fair choice, run with my SG and RP the story or go hit up a pug to level.

We put a lot of time into writing interesting stories for the group to run, and honestly I don't care about changes. I just want to know what the boundaries are when those changes happen. I'm fine playing within the confines of the devs sandbox, but they gotta tell me what those boundaries are.

Its a bit unfair to those of us using AE as Posi intended, as an alternative path to leveling while weaving our own stories, to make these changes without giving us any details beyond vague statements.

But sorry, no, I want to keep XP and rewards equal to the rest of the game. I don't want to punish my SG members for choosing to do a story with us rather then pug through the same old paper missions or painful hero side contacts.

There is another solution... GM Approved Posting only. You create and edit at will, however a a GM or Dev has to check the pending published missions (and any subsequent edited versions) out before it's made available to the public. That would stop all the exploit farms from ever being published, without ever needing to patch another thing.

Of course... there would be that pesky wait...
I'm not personally hating on the devs, I just think there were perhaps better ways to address this issue. There are a lot of things you can look at to determine if something is an exploitive farm.

Normally the number of allies is set to the max for the map. The allies also generally take specific powersets. The arcs also tend to be short or very short.

I mean I would even be happy with this if it was a scale.

    1-2 allies - Normal XP
3-5 allies - -20% XP but they can not killsteal XP.
    5-6 allies - -40% XP
    6+ allies - -60% XP

I mean at least with something like that we know what we're working with, similar to the number of powers a custom group has affecting their XP.

As it stands now this nerf hurts people who aren't exploiting more because the people exploiting will just do something new.

Can we please get these numbers?

I know these farms existed, but really I make arcs and sometimes they have multiple allies for story reasons. Such as one I did just recently that has three allies you rescue from a failed mission.

Its not exploitive, but I don't want XP on my mission to suffer because of this and make people not want to play it simple because the story revolves around rescuing a doomed team.

Or maybe this change should only apply to short/very short arcs and not to arcs that are long in nature. Though i guess I could see some enterprising farmer making an entire 4 or 5 mission arc of farms...

    *sigh*
  25. Enjoyed the meet and greet myself. However, I really felt that since it literally looked like Pocket D's red side it definitely needed a Jolly Roger flag on the wall.

Spent the night talked to some guys who were just returning to the game, met up with Arbi-fab and got to meet TopDoc. Also got a chance to chat a bit with Electric Knight from Paragon Universe. I even managed to walk away with a CoX comic signed by the dev team.

Good fun overall, I think my only kibble is the place was just a bit to far in the cold from the Hynes. Hopefully they'll have an exhibitor's table next year for PAX East 2011.
