Long ago in a land far away someone took the time to get some AR / Dev VS AR /** numbers.
The basic out come I recall and again this is over year ago maybe even 2 years, was that BU+Accuracy Insp. was pretty much on top of the charts DPS wise. Add in the Increased range and you where killing mobs without getting hit back at all. IO's really can bring down the recharge rate of Build Up along with the Hasten power.
As someone mentioned in a thread down below regarding this issue. Your pretty much getting Build Up back up every 30 seconds. Which is pretty much just enough time to go to the next mob.
Since both Archer and Assault Rifle are lethal damage. I can say that EM with Build UP and Boost Range can be really massive when you drop all those AOEs from such a long range. But if your running some crazy AE mission and have about 5 or 6 bosses in that bunch. You will be in some trouble. The GREAT thing about Device as a secondary is you have different sorts of crowd control. As was mentioned, Caltrops and Web. I also use Ignite on myself which will cause mobs to run off. I might take 1 or 2 hits but they eventually run off. Ignite cycles so fast I can pretty much spam it. But in a group I am not going to peel that much aggro off. I am more helping out other blasters who have pulled aggro.
But as was mentioned, I hardly EVER miss. AR paired with Device is more of a stead stream of good DPS.
Nutshell it never hurts a team to fill a slot with a steady stream of constant DPS and a bit of extra crowd control. Again that is assuming the Player understands what his powers do or what effects they cause. BUT that is a different thread.
Techknights on Champion Server.. Nice.. I might have to a transfer. -
Just addressing the exemplar
couldn't you just use that second build to exemplar down for those missed lower level TF's and such ? -
It is funny how no matter how long the game is out, AR still is lacking the DPS issues, but many still get the itch to use it because its just fun using that gun.
I wish they would just add something in that would allow for a dps increase to AR but only with certain secondaries. This way AR Nrg wouldn't be so crazy over the top. Basically something similar they did with sniper and Target Drone. -
I remember there was a rule of 5 when slotting.. Meaning if you cannot have 5 of the same something or other.. I have no clue..
Does the hero builder notify you if your violating the rule of 5 ? -
Don't beat me up for commenting.. But if this is the same player on Freedom Server.
I have to say he gave me an invite to his AE Farm, which is of course named after him. The layout is a Cave T setting with about 20+ Troll mobs standing 40 to 50 feet from the entrance, enough room to set up and such. And then as you move in more you get clumps of 20+ Trolls with Patrols that walk even increasing that number.
The guy was soloing the groups. We had 50 scraps electric shields in the group, that died when he got aggro.. A Tank tried it after he left, but knew he couldn't handle it and said it from the start.
Nutshell he was fighting a bunch of 52 -54 Trolls. I am not familiar with the Exp rate and if different types of mobs give off different exp even if the same level. So I don't know if 54 Trolls and 54 Carnie are the same exp wise. Or if Trolls are the weak end of exp for level 54 mobs.
As brazen as he is in this thread is pretty much how he was in game. I had not issues with him and went along for the free ride and he was polite to me and a few others, though we did have many that quit on the first few runs because of deaths and some where kicked for voicing their opinions about his attitude.
Again IF it is the same player and Mobs are Mobs, then he was handling more then I have seen others handle. I did samurai and I would say it is similar, but instead of groups of 8 or 9 that keep ressing back up, it was as I mentioned mobs in high teens mid 20s in size and even larger at some points.
Just someones unbiased opinion of being on a team with the guy. -
Quote:Well I guess if your gonna make sense and put it that way, it does make a differenceassuming 100% recharge. Build up is 100% damage for 10 out of every 45 secs. (22.2% average)
With 200% recharge that is 10 out of every 30 secs (33.3%)
Assault at 10.5% doesn't seem too bad in that light.
However, BU (and aim) allow you to chose the boost to front load the damage with a massive alpha strike and recharge when you are moving to the next group, so the average over time really under estimates the effectiveness.
I still like assault having though.
I'm just wondering is there anyway to compensate for not having BU with some crazy purple IO build. I am guessing the cost would probably not be worth the effort as you could put those IO's in something better suited for even higher DPS output -
To the OP, I think it depends to what extremes your thinking about.
I believe that there are EXTREME Min/Maxers - Those that will pick a defense power or offense power over a travel power and will make sure they ride that ED line to make sure they do not go over by 1% in any Damage, To Hit, or Defense.
Then there is the concerned Min/Maxer- ( This is where I believe myself and many fall in ) They understand that some powers might be a few percent and maybe up to 5 to 10 percent over the cap, and their To Hit might be a bit below the cap. But they pick up a travel power for the sheer aspect of being able to move from A to B faster. I think they have a concept and then create the theme around the power set.
Then there is the player who thinks Min/Max is diet substitute product. They have Super Speed and Super Jump because that is what there theme dictates they should have. They have Group fly that they have on all the time, or pick up Swift and Hurdle. Again it's about theme. And more then likely they are the ones you look at and say how did that person create that look because it looks that good.
This person usually does not have an issue, UNLESS your on a team where the differential is kicked up a bit and you have several "Themed built players" or smaller groups where the DPS and Crowd Control matters. Then eventually the min maxers will start to notice the swing and miss attacks and the AOE hold that didn't take effect and now has aggroed every mob on that player.
Themes are great until you start to discover, sometimes too late. That that key person will not be able to hold the aggro or do the CC your looking for on that Taskforce your running, simply because they lack the power to do so. But they do look good dying
Then finally you have the I just don't have a clue. That is usually some player who has been dragged along by friends or just have never played a MMO. They are the one wearing Plate armor with a scarf. Or called Mr. Chill but forgot they picked up fire powers instead.
Or also they could be the parent that plays and sometimes tosses their kid a few levels on his or her toon just so they can run around in atlas killing gray con mobs. These players are the extreme of both ends.. Both color blind, no fashion sense and have super speed slotted 6x with endurance reductions.
I think I covered the whole MMO spectrum -
Quote:I don't think FF is inferior, Without a doubt you can reach the defense cap with zero issue. And having that Force Bubble to keep everyone when soloing is GOLDEN.Is /FF really that inferior? My first 50 (and most consistently used character) is a bots/forcefield, which I built because I didn't like the look of traps. I've never had serious issues with him, and find I get lots of team cudos for the defence buffs and hefty knockback.
Its true that the guides could use some revamping... hmm...
I need to respec my build back to a PvE build though.
But that being said I don't think I could go the AV killer route that many do with /Traps.
I have fought AV's and won but was a long tough fight. Which included me having to PFF and run away to resummon bots. Again that is what I can recall, I have been away for over a year so who knows what it is like now. -
Just wondering are the numbers that disgustingly bad not having build up ?
I only recall because I have been off the game for over a year and half. But I remember someone posting up some numbers between a non Build up and Build up build and the numbers where NOT so far off. I recall Build up being the winner and was numerically higher but nothing to the point where you would say OMG Device just is useless.
The thread went on to put out some insight on what device had to offer that Energy was lacking. Again it is something I vaguely remember. -
Sorry, asking because I don't know.
Is this Solo farming or Group farming ?
If it is group, my question would be can you solo farm with the scrapper or are we talking more the Tank route ? -
Quote:I have been away for 1.5 years from the game and decided to come back.Bots/Traps will make you forget your past woes, worry not
One of Us. One of Us.
I have a 50 Robot FF respeced and used for Base raids and some odd PvP at the time.
I have Teleport foe, Detention, Force bubble. I would stand off the corner at the end of a narrow hallway. My bubble would block the hallway with the repel for some, others used enough Insp to break through the repel bubble. Thats when the brute would pound on them. I would use the bots pretty much as cannon fodder in the hallway I would block. And of course use TP foe to isolate more troublesome players, EG Healers, Big dps guys.
Sadly that guild is gone and I don't even remember the name of the guild or the players in it. Heck I don't even know if anyone does base raids anymore.
Nutshell I think I will have to reroll one. They seem to be as much fun when they first came out till today. Where as Robot FF or any ** /FF build is obvious the only 2 builds in the sticky are from 04 and 05.
Force Field is nice for Defense and solo Force bubble is great, as not many can break through and I force bolt anything that sneeks in. So any Melee DPS is done NPC wise.
But I always read the cool things done with Traps -
You can't respec the power choices correct ?
-
Thanks..
I made the changes as listed. -
Well under a billion ??? Wow things have changed since I left. I think I'm going to have to learn about how to farming is done now and where to pick up those Inventions.
The last time I played Statesman TF used to be the key way to get drops. So I'm a bit behind the 8 Ball atm trying to catch up to speed.
Nonetheless I copied out your build so as not to loose it.
I can see the differences though once I put it into hero builder and looked at them side by side.. You gave me pretty much what I had and improved my hit and defenses.
Much appreciated.
Again one of many 50s toons I will be putting up on the forums to start relearning this game all over again.. -
Your gonna see me post builds on a bunch of different threads over the next few weeks. Please be patient with me. Been off the game for 1.5 years so I am just trying to catch up to speed.

What should I update or what direction should I be going with this. I don't know how much money I have atm.. Still trying to find out where you see your money totals -
-
Okay.. thanks..
If I can have a follow up question.. Anyone recall how to label the IO's or inventions the correct level in Mids Hero builder ?
Example I have some IOs that are 48 and some are 50.. I would like set up the builder with the right levels for the IOs so I can get a proper critique when posting the builds. I can see where I can adjust the IO's levels but having issue set individuals IO levels. It seems to be a all or nothing choice -
Just wondering if there was a way I could export my build with the IOs listed without having to alt tab out trying to remember what IO I have in each power.
Having been away so long I would like to post some of my builds to get some advice but tabbing in and out of the game to get the info and then inputting it into hero builder is literally putting me to sleep..
I have about 6 to 8 50's or close to 50 toons and as you could imagine that is a lot of alt tabbing out -
Villain side I really don't have what might be classified as a farming toon.
I have 50 Crab, 50 bot FF mm. and a 40's Rad Kin
Hero side my friend who is coming back does have a fire kin though and he has a 50 tanker from the old arc days of PL / Farming. I have several 50s on Hero side but again nothing for main farming, but more assist.. 50 AR Dev, 50 Storm Rad and a 50 BS / don't recall. -
Villain side
SS/WP
WP is will power, what is SS or SD -
I hate asking these which is best farming questions.. BUT for the time being I am posting my disclaimer of being away for over 1 year to know the right answer.
Nutshell Anyone mind giving some insight on which specs are better for farming on both sides hero and villain.
I won't bother asking for builds I will do the research for that. Just the basic 2 specs to pick.
I have several 50's on both sides as does a friend of mine who is coming back also. So eventually we will turn to farming as a team or at least the main start of one as we get more.
The last time I played on hero side Fire Kin used to be the OP build and a Brute with gimp that had Kin for SB was OP on villain side. Again that was OVER 1 year ago, close to 1.5 years as some of my toons say last logged in 497 days. -
Sorry folks it's been a long time since I played and just can't figure out how to look at what IO's I have slotted in my characters. I haven't played for over a year and I have forgotten a bunch of things.
-
All understood, thanks tons. Won't deny I'm a bit excited to get home to try it out.

Quote:Okay, Ironblade is the concept the same ?Ah, the 'magic desk'. Yes, once upon a time, you had to go through all sorts of gyrations to get a desk to stack effectively. No more. Now you can stack any desk to the ceiling - plus the safes and the lamps. Those are the big stacking items. Also note the safes and lamps can stack 'sideways'; i.e. if you have a stack of safes, you can stick a safe to the SIDE of any safe in the stack.
Meaning if I wanted to float something would I stack the desks and then place that item to be floated on top of the desks and then remove the desks ? Thus leaving the item floating.
My idea ( which is not new ) was to make a 2 leveled base. But as you could imagine the number of magic desks I would have needed to create just became insane. And after doing it so much, one night I spent something around 6 or 7 hours just trying to make the floating floor before the base tool getting all whacky and crashing on me. I gave up after that.
