How do you stack ?
o.o can't think of any built in way.. the 3 main ones still work... desk, wall safe and those 2 tall Japanese lanterns. What was altered though was that the object collision stopper was removed, so now you can overlap objects.

Ah, the 'magic desk'. Yes, once upon a time, you had to go through all sorts of gyrations to get a desk to stack effectively. No more. Now you can stack any desk to the ceiling - plus the safes and the lamps. Those are the big stacking items. Also note the safes and lamps can stack 'sideways'; i.e. if you have a stack of safes, you can stick a safe to the SIDE of any safe in the stack.

Meaning if I wanted to float something would I stack the desks and then place that item to be floated on top of the desks and then remove the desks ? Thus leaving the item floating.
My idea ( which is not new ) was to make a 2 leveled base. But as you could imagine the number of magic desks I would have needed to create just became insane. And after doing it so much, one night I spent something around 6 or 7 hours just trying to make the floating floor before the base tool getting all whacky and crashing on me. I gave up after that.

The best way to stack these days involves the Accent Lamp (from Lighting) and the Floor Tile (from Room Details). Just place the Accent Lamp roundabouts where you want to start stacking (you may have to stack two, which is easy, to get the right height), then grab a Floor Tile and float it in the Accent Lamp to the height you want to work with.
The Floor Tile is treated by the editor as a floor for any subsequent item placements, and you can stack Tiles on Tiles to cover the entire room.
Careful, though: the Floor Tile itself is transparent from the bottom, so it's best to then cover the tile with rows of counters from the Desks tab to create an actual floor/ceiling effect. (After the counters are down, you can go to "Current Room" and delete the Floor Tiles if you're a neat freak like me.)
>.> you'll probably want to del the floor tiles anyway, they cost money and are an object, so enough of them and they add lag.
I usually use Large Accent Lamps myself since their normal stacking surfaces (the paper lvls, not counting the extra big one from the handles at the top) come out at exactly 8ft tall, so you'll always know that your ceilings, platforms, doorways, etc, are tall enough for all character models to go under without silliness ensuing.
I didn't notice the others mentioning it (sorry if I missed it!) but of the 3 mentioned items for stacking, the lamps (accent and Large accent, same models, one's just bigger so I'm counting them as the same) and the floor safe can be strait out deleted with stuff on them. The desks on the other hand have to be yanked out to another room still before you kill them. This can be an advantage at times though, as it prevents you from many 'opppss... >< gerrr..' moments with your new second floor.

All understood, thanks tons. Won't deny I'm a bit excited to get home to try it out.

Stacking a floor for a large room can be seriously time consuming. As in hours of time just getting the floor ready for decoration.
It can be worth it, though, with some nice multi-floor effects to pay back your effort.

I use the tall accent lamps, stacked up to the ceiling. I put them in each corner of the grid I'm on, and in the center, then stack them up. Then I use the floor tile and slide it up and down the lamps until I have it where I want it. Once you have the floor tile placed at the desired height, you can put desks on top of it and delete the floor lamps. Repeat as needed. Then you will have another story in the room.
Hope this helps.
I have been away from the game for over a year and a half. I used to do the magic desk to stack. But I read i13 has a stacking option now. I logged into a toon which had a SG base and was trying to figure out how to stack and was failing.
Anyone kind enough to point me what option is used to stack ? |
- Roll a toon up on Protector after about 6PM Central time.
- Shoot a tell to @Hyperstrike1
- I'll recruit you into my personal SG and give you a room with some bins and a few hundred thousand prestige to play with. As well as a few lessons in how to stack.
Hands on teaching is the best.
