But i've seen my share of Energy and Fire blasters run, hop and nuke only to get smoked by the LT they just missed, or the Boss that wasn't quite killed.
Now, it's personal opinion whether an extra AoE or two and a crashless nuke is a fair trade to Aim. I think it is.
As for numbers, you can have a field day comparing the numbers on red tomax to find a set that does optimum damage and includes all the wondrous AoE and ST options you could care to have.
Today IO's have Added Accuracy bonues, Higher recharge rates and higher defense rates. ETC
That has made MANY players equivalent to a level 10 Paladin carrying a Vorpal Sword ( D&D Pen and Paper reference )
Who cares if you can make them run off if the other guy can kill them with one fell swoop.
When a Electric Shield Fire Scrapper can get the Defense cap and spam Shield Slam, Melt Armor, Lighting Rod, and Fireball ( or whatever order is correct for maximum efficiency ) all because of IO's, does it really matter that you dropped smoke grenade on them ? They are dead in seconds.
Maybe IF they gave Targeting Drone a DPS boost it would make a difference, Oh wait they tried to do that but then dropped it years ago and never readdressed it.
Okay then they should give Cloaking Device some sort of first strike Damage boost to compensate for the changes. Oh wait they tried that too years ago then dropped the idea and never readdressed it.
I guess the Devs seen some sort of issues as well.
Oddly enough just the other day I can't tell you how many times I had to ress a AR Device player who kept running ahead and getting aggro or ended up bring unexpected mobs back to the rest of the group. Once while the Tank was afk. Lucky the scrapper was good enough to take control while I just aoe heals on our grp. I finally sent the guy a tell and said to he needs to be more careful and that I could see the TL eventually kicking him.. He replied the TL already sent him a polite warning. In his defense he was fairly decent, but just was having some bad breaks that day. It happens.
I think its foolish that you need to have super speed, Cloaking Device, and Stealth IO and smoke bomb so you can run in and toe bomb a group. Then you need Combat Jump so you can help you Jump better, so you can then as your jumping use Full auto in mid air on the target you picked in the back of your spawn group. So your in mid air still and not planted in place when you start your attack. Then move in to use Flame Thrower to clear out the rest. But before all of this make sure you drop Caltrops infront of your spot so the Mobs you didn't kill that might be charging you now might turn away when they hit the Caltrops. IF they don't turn away then use Ignite on your area to make them run off. Mind you this is solo, because in a full group the Tank would have the aggro and every other person on your team is dropping an AOE on the group.
So what happens if I can't afford a Stealth IO ?
What if I don't like Super speed ?
Can't I use Super Jump ?
If I can't use super Jump, why not ?
Doesn't anyone else see how retarded that sounds ? Don't you just see your so ingrained with it's just the way it is that you accept it as the way the toon needs to be played.
And please lets not start saying its not, because everyone who felt they needed to give AR Device instructions pretty much kept saying the same thing about toe bombing.
For the Third time. I repeat what DrMike2000 said. IF AR Device isn't the worst then what spec is ? -

After keeping the rules in mind that you guys[i]( gender neutral for the ladies )[i] outlined. I kept playing and playing with the builder, swapping sets in and out and comparing which set was giving me bonuses I was more interested in. And I kept looking at the end regen calculations as well.
I was even looking at some rare sets for the pets and seen I was getting less benefit from them when compared to what I have now.
StormyDarkness put out a compelling build because of the defense numbers, but for me I felt the DPS output for it was a bit lower then mine and I wish I had more DPS then what I am doing now.
Oddly enough I have a old AR Device toon with a +Regen on him. I know that is odd. At the time when it came out, which was many years ago. It was not a big deal as it is today and I had no way of swapping with another toon. So I just put it on him. I am tempted to respec him just to get it out and send the IO in the new mail system coming out. But it is such a pain to respec to get an IO.
I will just follow your advice and get them with merits. -
Gilia what I think you need to do is toss out some of your numbers to refute his. Show some comparisons with some data that proves Another Fan is off base.
OR even better.. put up your build via mids.. But be ready to back it up if you end up posting a 500 million build.
Otherwise you pretty much fall into the same comments that were given to me after my first post.. Where is your data.. Prove it.. Where are the numbers. -

I think I already responded to just about all your comments in other postings in this thread. Numbers where asked, links where given with numbers. As a matter of fact some of those people came by and even responded in this thread with more numbers. But unfortunately, now that someone came across to give those numbers. Now they are no good. Skewed. Made up. Modified to fit the posters own needs.
Though no one has jumped in to say with some numbers or proof how AR Device exceeds other Blaster sets. They tell you how they are good, but no numbers. Funny isn't it one side produces to show how AR Device is lacking when in comparison to other Blaster sets. But its not good enough now. But on the other hand we have to sit here and be told how we dont understand the set. that we need to jump around after attacking and try to drop a mine during a fight, that mind you a power that can be interrupted and the fight is pretty much is over seconds after it started, So you can be spinning your wheels just trying to drop a trip mine for a fight is over after you placed it and further more the team has already moved on and is fighting the next spawn.
But yea I know that has NEVER happen to anyone.

I am big enough to admit I might have chosen the wrong wording when I used the viable spec. But nonetheless the rest still stand. Posters jump on one or 2 words another poster puts out there, but everything else is ignored. When you can't refute another posters comments ( and I don't mean mine ) in a thread, his whole comment/post is ignored as if they never happen/posted. It's like "Oh man that guy makes sense, I don't have anything to refute what he is saying. Hey you know what let me just go after that guy again for using the word viable spec."
And you know it's not even one person posting on how you should stealth toe bomb and jump away. It's 3 or 4 people saying the same thing at different times. They come into the thread, don't really read it. Post on all the gimmicks you need to do to run your AR Device. What each power is good for. What gimmicks you use to use them effectively, what powers not to take ( Time Bomb ) . But if they would have taken the time to read they would have clearly seen that I stated I understand the concept and methods of AR Device. Trust me I get it this game isn't that hard to grasp. It's fixed powers with up to 6 bubbles in each power. I get it.
As someone else mentioned and pretty much even my title insinuates it. This is a on going debate that pops up every few weeks here. I would have to guess everyone who post about AR Device over the years is wrong, its like a phantom pain. You think you have it but its all in your head, make believe.
Well I am glad they are gonna have this DEV chat on Friday. I have never jumped into one, but I am gonna try my hardest and best to get a AR Device question in and pray they can give some insight on this.
I will end with this. If we get lucky enough to get some SOLID info that reflex's I am wrong. Then I have no problem being told I'm a Donkeys backside. But rest assured if it goes the other way.. OH BOY. You guys better be big enough to eat some crow. Because I am gonna hand it out fast and furious. -

Okay here is the skinny. I eventually got to 50 with SO's and started to try to build up some funds to get some IO's going. I pretty much bought the IO's I could and then worked up again to buy the salvage. After about spending 30 to 40 million and being broke, I was running around on some teams and farm when available to build up the cash. I was lucky enough to join a ITF and picked up a Respec IO. I sold it for 120 million and was able to almost finish up the whole build excluding one Gaussian IO which goes for around 30 million, but there are none on the market atm. I spent the whole 120 million, plus around another 10 million I had already. Total around 160 million.
Currently when I run solo I am at 0 +8 with no issues. The End drain on the mobs helps out tons as they are stuck using there base attack. The IOs helped my DPS out as well. Much more DPS output then I expected or was accustom to with SO's.
I have not tired +1 +8, but will tonight and see how it goes. Doing Farms I have jumped on some purple con 54 mobs to see how it was. Again possible but the fight would be LONG. I think yellow cons with Orange bosses might be the sweat spot. Decent amount of time but decent return.
I will post up what I have working atm maybe someone will find a tweak point. Personally I think I have a very good spec that no one will have issues with if they want to play it and it comes with a pretty much unlimited supply of endurance. I only wish it did more DPS.
The really great thing is I am sure others will find ways of improving the spec which only make it that much greater.
Thanks again to many on the Defenders forums who answered my pet questions earlier on and the guys in this thread who gave me the insight to make a really cool toon. -

Sounds to me like all your issues are really with Devices not Assault Rifle. This thread would have been a lot more productive if you had stuck to that one topic instead of jumping all over the place and making hyperbolic statements like "it would really be nice if AR when coupled with Device could be a viable spec."
But nonetheless The AR / Device combo is an issue. -

I offered a link to a previous thread that went on for 71 postings I believe in which someone posted data regarding AR when compared to others. No one refuted those findings at that time. If you are refuting those findings then you need to post your own facts or data to refute what was posted.

As far as the any of my personal experiences you can take them or leave them. You can toss them out the window for all I care. But the reality is if your playing this game on a regular basis you get to see who is out there.
If your only belief is I'm making hyperbolic statements. EG I have a mile high ice cream cone. Then I am willing drop everything beyond the numbers and the statements other have made.
Let see.. I was giving instruction on when to use KB powers.. How useful Web and Caltrops can be.. The use of Ignite..How I can be a taxi for speed runs. People are looking to make up for Devices short comings buy bringing something else to the surface.
The simple issue is AR / Device is not as good as AR / Fire, AR / EM, AR / Mental.
Simply because the Device set is out dated. It is past its shelf life.
I don't know what game your playing. Maybe your a solo player. Maybe you play only with a key group of friends.
I don't, I play with Everyone. Do I make friends ? Sure. But I'm not picky.

Why is it Targeting Drone only gives a bonus to Sniper Rifle and no other Snipe attack ?
Why is it cloaking device for such a long time had wording it that lead players to believe it granted a Damage bonus, when it actually didn't ?
I will answer my own questions. Targeting Drone at one time intended on giving a bonus to all AR attacks in attempt to bring up its lacking DPS. But when they could not fix an issue on test they scrapped the whole thing until they could figure out how to get it working properly. Instead they just gave the bonus to Sniper Rifle because of the damage type AR offers.
Cloaking device was suppose to be your initial attack while cloaked was to gain a hit and DPS bonus. But yet again they discovered some instances where this could be over powered and scrapped it all together, until they could implement it properly. But they never removed the wording from the description up until some time ago.
These 2 instance happened YEARS ago and nothing yet has been done. Why? Again I will tell you why. Because the complaints just died down. Everyone moved on and called it a day with AR Device. So did I, but every once and a while I get a bug about it and post my gripes about it. I just don't think its fair. I say scrap the whole device thing and give those players whole class respec. Or get it working effectively either with all the primaries or at a minimum with AR.
My whole point in bringing up those 2 powers was, it was a clear indication at that time that the Devs knew something was not right. But they could not fix it and just dropped it hoping everyone would forget about it. My feeling is they were playing the used car salesman game. "Don't look at AR Device, look we added fire,mental and energy to choose from. Shiny.. new.. Nice.." -

You have asked for some fact and numbers I gave you the numbers and I am giving testimonial to what has occurred to me.
Am I saying it happens all the times.. Of course not. Am I saying it happens, Of course.
Have I been on teams in the past that refused to pick up a AR Device, Of course. Does it happen all the time Of course not.
But I have never been on a team that said. Oh don't pick up the Fire or Archer. They just do too much DPS, its not fun for everyone else.
The only spec I have ever seen discriminated against beyond AR Dev would be storm.

I just wanted to reply to reply atm.. I will go back to an older AV Dev thread to see where the numbers are.. I know there is a chart out in the wild showing AR vs Archery I believe.
I am not the Amazing Kreskin or anything. I can only go by what I see. You either have to take my comments about being asked to get another toon as fact or Just call me a liar. What lying would get me I have no clue.. I get no brownie or rep points for exaggerating the truth.
Again you clearly have to believe that I understand the consequences of KB and that I am using the KB powers at the best possible times.. E.G. I know that the KB attack of M30 will probably kill the remaining mobs. Or there is a solo mob I might take on doing kb attacks on.
But the reality in today's game play. Your running ITF speed runs. Your running Rikti TF speed runs. Or your running some sort of farm, with the occasional regular mission group. The standard IO'ed AR Device player just does not have the time to do the fancy layout of trip mines and Caltrops pits, when the Energy player is just gonna run seconds after the tank and Nova everyone to dust. That player just did in seconds what it would have taken me minutes to set up.
Personally I believe Build up is the culprit. The recent last run I did with my AR Device the Archery EM ( Which I have myself ) in the group was pretty much clearing house with me running clean up.
Now should I cry that Archery EM is OVER POWERED ? No of course not. But I do believe many of the gadgets you get from Device are outdated for this game play and do not compare when another spec can just clear out a spawn out right with little or no retaliation.
I think the game has exceeded AR Device capabilities. I do believe several years back it played a bigger part when IO's where not around as it held a lot of utility that players could utilize to a groups advantage. But today with tanks and scrappers exceeding the Hit Defense cap and Solo players taking on AVs. I think it is becoming an old horse.
@Fulmens, even you commented about AR Device and Storm Energy as if you see an issue with them but you would bring them along anyways. I know your saying you don't know what the bottom of the barrel is. But your pretty good at picking yet another set which many have issue with, that being Storm. Again because of all the knock back. Again I'm not saying, I'm Just saying..
Some mentioned Ar with EM, well of course AR with EM is good. you have build up. Look at Archery it does the same type of damage AR does, but coupled with BU and Boost Range I'm dropping ROA and Explosive arrow followed by fist full on anyone that is left. I am killing Orange con mobs out right with ROA BU and one small red or the use of the power Aim. I am killing Red cons with all 3 powers.
The other night with my AR Device I was just that other players fistful or small red inspiration.
I will go through my build and throw it up in this thread to be reviewed..
Maybe I am doing something wrong. My Accuracy and / or Damage are in the red as per Mids Hero Builder. I have some stuff Frankenslotted for maximum potential, but again I could have just missed the boat and been off my mark. I consider myself a decent Online gamer, I try to understand the game concepts and methods.

Too many Knockbacks. The sad reality that there is no Build Up of any sort. No one will wait for you to put down 10 trip mines even if that's all it would take to take down an AV. Let alone one trip mine. The only way to have any use out of trip mine in a group setting is if your running ahead of the team and you hope that even after you lay down some trip mines that the tank will bring the mobs over them instead of charging in and just fighting where the group originally was. Which of course ends up making the mines look like some nice glowy disco lights on the floor since they are not going to be used on mobs anytime soon.
I can almost sense/feel the hesitation when someone asks for level 50 players for some team and I am on my AR Device toon. Smart enough that I am, I always list or mention I have other level 50 toons. MANY times I get asked to get something else or if I can bring out my Archery EM 50 toon.
At the rate the game is going and how toons are speced with IO's, the big things players are looking for is DPS, Debuffs, Heals, and Defense.
AR / Device cannot bring much of any of that to the table when compared to other specs. Even with IO's
As much as I would just like a full overhaul of the spec or a chance to respec out of either AR or Device. I know that is not possible.
It would be nice if they somehow just gave AR Device players an over all boost the way they did with Target Drone and Sniper Rifle. Just a simple If you have these 2 specs you get X bonus.
Again I go back to the comment of getting picked up by a team. It is just very apparent when you announce LFT or when you respond to someone asking for members, when you say our AR Device. I can just see the other player looking around and waiting for someone else to send them a tell, hoping to fill the spot.
Whereas when I play many of my other specs. I just do not see this issue at all. Again this is not something I just perceived over night, it's something I noticed when I occasionally bring out my AR Device toon. I recall when they changed I believe war mace to Knock up instead of Knock back because many complained.
Again just a simple these 2 sets give X bonus and call it a day, at least for now.
I personally believe that AR should have been what DP is today. -

Off Topic - Oddly I am finding even with recall friend and aoe some people just don"t have the patience to be ressed. I had 4 die in a grp last night because we split.. I tried to tp them to aoe ress on next grp and 2 used wakie, 1 went to hosp. and only the last one stayed dead.. I just don't get it. -

You fixed some of the slotting issues I noticed on the OP's build.
One thing that you should consider Plainguy is taking Dark Comsumption instead of the self rez. Your recovery-to-use ratio is a little on the low side. I always try to get 2.0 eps or more in my builds. With Dark Consumption, you could probably run a little leaner without any issues.
As far as the self ress goes. I pretty much went with a group friendly build. My only thoughts with that where IF we should get a team wipe the self ress and protection should be good enough for me to get away and bring everyone back up again without doing hospital runs. Hindsight being 20/20 I think in today's game there are more people who understand the game mechanics then those who don't. Especially in the Tank department. So its nice to have and I have used it several times already. It is nothing I wont miss if I swap it out.
I was playing with the builder last night but fell asleep at the computer. When I get home from work I will look and compare what I did with Adeon build to see how off base I was.
Good lessons learned though.
Off topic but I just redid my Robot FF MM and had the PvP setting on.. It messed up all my defense stats. I didn't know what was going wrong until someone pointed it out to me, suspecting what I had did. -

Unless you've got a significant amount of Defense to build on it's very hard to softcap more than either one Positional Defense or two matched Typed Defenses.

Recharge wise, I think I can swing it. currently in SO's and I can get the pets up steady. Tar Patch I guess I would really like to get 2 dropped for a decent amount of time going.
I will say endurance is an issue. running Shadow Fall, Darkest Night and just using Ball lighting and Short Circuit I can drain endurance after several tosses of both.
I also find the DPS of electric is lacking. The endurance drain it does from the powers is hardly noticed at times. Short Circuit and Ball Lighting Pretty much are the big end drainers for obvious reasons.
I have Thunderous Blast, but it just doesn't do the damage I see in some other big nukes. I almost kills everything, but what you don't kill gets mad and attacks you back. Sometimes I end up dying, which of course I use Soul transfer to get back on my feet ( If its up ).

IF so, then I understand I am covered with the damage types. -
I understand the magic number is 45%
What I am suddenly getting confused with is the difference between Melee, Ranged, AOE and all the other Defenses Smashing, lethal, Fire, Cold, Energy, Negative, and Psionic
If someone hit me with a ranged fire attack. Would I be reading for Ranged or Fire or Both ?
What is the difference between the 2 ( fire and ranged ) for example ?
I am working with Mids builder and I started to look at my Robot FF MM build and noticed I have 140 % to 150 % defense in the 7 types of damage. But Ranged and AOE are 30's and Melee is 20s.. Do I need to kick up my AOE, Ranged and Melee or are my other 7 damage type defense covering me. Am I over the top with the 7 damage types ?
I read up on defenses but I am missing info on the damage types or just not reading the correct write ups on these types of defenses. I'm just a bit confused now and trying to get back on track with all of this
Any help or insight or link would be appreciated. -

I agree with your comments on Robot Traps. I wish my MM went that way instead of Force Field.
But as was mentioned I use seekers to take alpha and I just follow them in with Force Field gen going and drop poison trap, Triage beacon, and caltrops in that order and pretty much have no issues. I am not at defense cap yet so sometimes on some higher level mobs I use a purple. But between Sonics and Traps, wow. Defense cap is such a big deal I'm almost wondering if I should respec the rest of my toons to get the defense cap.
As for the rest, yea I wasn't sure if I was just at the timer limits with acid mortar and such or it was despawning when I created another acid mortar. I haven't been in a team yet with a kin to be able to drop several mortars to make sure. But recently I was able to level up a bit and make some changes to my build that just started me seeing several Trap items up.

I think the Traps part is okay as it puts the build high up on the Defense and resistance caps. DPS wise I know it's not a beast.
The last power I was either considering Summon Disruptor, Amplify or Dreadful Wail or go with Acrobatics for even more protection.
Dreadful Wail I am a bit iffy about as it kills my Endurance bar.
I don't know if Amplify would be overkill or just what I needed for GM killing.
Summon Disruptor I consider just another DPS that I can fire and forget.

I'm just wondering if you can have out more then one Poison Trap, Triage Beacon, and Acid Mortar at the same time.
I know Force Field Generator you cannot as one is destroyed when you create another.
I know Caltrops you can and the same goes for Trip mine. -
Just wanted to give this thread a nudge.
Above I posted a Traps only part of a build. I removed super speed and 6 slotted shout and combat jump to get me closer to the AOE / Ranged Defense cap of 45%
Resistance totals are in the high 50's to 60s. Am I missing some key element to pull this off ? I never did this, I understand and have read up on the Defense cap info. But never fought a GM Solo.

You know just as I was about to correct my post to say it was phpBB you posted up.
I actually am exporting it as phpBB, I was wrong in saying HTML
It just seems the color is not displaying. If you notice, Bold command is used. The list command is being used. Even the code at the end is correct for the data blob. Just color is the issue.
