Yes! People have been asking for that since bases were introduced.

I think this is the best bug ever, though I'm pretty fond of the humongosaurus zombies too. Or the ginormous player characters we used to get once in a while. That was a great bug. But the base coming alive and attacking you? Awesome. Like, Skynet test-bed awesome.

Well, instead of farming the sewers or running the same missions over again, I was planning on doing the story arc, but it asks me to form a task force. I was wondering if it is possible to solo this at level 10 or so?
The fact that it's a task force does not mean it requires a team. It means you can't stop in the middle and do some other mission instead, and it means you are pushed to the right level whether you like it or not, but it does not mean you need a team.

On the other hand, I don't think I could handle some of those missions with a level 10 character.

You might get screwed if you change your mind about the character, but if not, you won't lose anything.
I thought they were account bound, not character bound. You can't use them for one character, then respec them out and email them to another character?

Agility Boost: This alpha tree focuses on boosting Endurance Modification, and secondarily boosts Defense and Recharge rate. The radial branch also boosts run speed, fly speed, and jump distance.
    Thoughts?

I was initially tempted, because I love endurance, and I like defense and recharge, and I love run speed.

But then I remembered how rare it is for my endurance to be a problem, even when fighting Carnies. And I don't think the alpha slot would boost the defense I get from set bonuses. MoG doesn't need a defense boost. Divine Avalanche would benefit, but that's just one power. The recharge from Agility Boost would be good, but probably not as good as what I get from the Spiritual alpha. I'm already at the run speed cap, so extra run speed won't have any effect. And even if the heal from Alpha isn't very significant, still, I have a lot of heal powers so it's hard to believe I'm not getting some benefit from it.

    What do you guys think?

Well, I'll agree that I've seen both complaints often enough. And I certainly agree that it's a shame to lose all of those old missions. I was pretty surprised when I first heard that. Adding new missions is great, but why take some away? Well, other than the fact that they were boring and repetitive, but that's true of 90% of the original missions. I never advocated for any of them to be removed, just shuffled off to the side a bit.

It takes me about a year to get to level 50. More in the past, a bit less now I hope. I only have 4 level 50s, with two more in the 40s. You won't find me complaining that leveling is too fast.
  6. Try clicking the trashcan again, but this time make sure you are looking at everything. There may be an option in the bottom right corner of the window to hide things for which you are missing ingredients.

You should be able to see the wide variety of things you can buy with a villain merits, and that will answer one of your questions.

Why would you do villainous tip missions? To get villain alignment merits.
Why would you do rogue tip missions? To become a rogue, so you can leave the rogue isles and visit paragon city.

I don't know about a clear and simple guide, but there is a lot of info, as usual, on paragonwiki:

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Alignment
  7. I made a spines/dark before spines/fire was an option. Lots of AoE there. Even the self-heal is an AoE attack.

Well, I think the more common complaint was that all the missions from 1-10 were horrible and they were actively driving away new subscribers. Now the beginning of the game is actually pretty cool the first time through, if a bit rushed and confusing. After that it's a question of whether new players actually go through the new missions or get caught on the DFB train and don't know how to get off.

Personally, I find the early game surprisingly quick now. I don't mind, except that I'll need to turn off xp one of these days if I actually want to see the new stories.

The 30's don't feel as if they drag so much now as they used to. I'm pretty happy with the rate of xp gain in the 30's.

Things are a lot slower in the 40s. It's not nearly as bad as it used to be though, when I could spend an entire evening playing and not gain a single bubble of xp. (No, not because of debt, but because my idea of an entire evening doesn't start until the kids are asleep and ends early enough so I can still drag myself in to work the next day, so it's kind of a short evening compared to some of the whippersnappers around here.) I wouldn't mind seeing the 40s move a little faster, but its really not bad.

Which is why we should use crwth, as Stargeek said. That's a word I haven't seen lately. I won a word game with it once, years ago. Of course, you need to have a really big dictionary handy when someone challenges you. Smaller dictionaries won't include it.
  10. I wouldn't say anyone did anything terribly wrong, but people could have done some things better. Think of how differently the OP would feel now if that team leader had said something like, "We could really use your help with this mission. We're near the end but we're struggling." Then when you joined the team people might have said, "Thanks for joining us! What a hero!" And afterwards, even if everyone had immediately quit, you still would have been left feeling pretty good about your evening. Often times it's not the time or the xp or the debt that matter, it's how people treat people. It would have been nice if they had treated you better.

On the other hand, the team leader might have tried that approach three times before and had three people in a row refuse to join a team under those circumstances. I understand why you're feeling used, but I wouldn't rush to judgement without knowing what that team had gone through before you arrived.

I think "email" is the solution to your dilemma, but for what it's worth...

No, it does not cost way more for SOs 25-50 than you get inf drops for in the game. It costs slightly more for DOs and SOs from 12-27 than you get inf drops for in the game. At 27, you will have a hard time buying level 30 SOs. By level 32, you shouldn't have much trouble buying level 35 SOs. After that, you should be rolling in money.

Yes, the game is balanced around SOs, except for the Incarnate content.

Yes, free players are able to play the game the way it was designed. In fact, they are forced to play the game exactly the way it was originally designed.

    Some money saving tips:
    * Know your origin. Try to fight enemies who will drop enhancements you can use.
    * Never buy or sell from your contacts. People for whom you routinely risk your life will rip you off. Complete strangers offer a better deal. Strange but true.
    * Sell your enhancements to the correct origin specific store.
    * Don't worry if your enhancements are yellow.
    * Slot the most important powers and aspects first.
    * Don't buy anything before level 12.

It can be done. Thousands of us did it for years. It's not that big a deal.

But again, I think "email" is the answer you were looking for.

I see that the last update was in September. I can't guarantee that it will still function with the current patch because new patches will often break HeroStats' functionality until Ineffable_Bob updates it, and there have been a considerable number of patches since September.

peterpeter: the one you're thinking of in CIT is the Titan Sentinel, which is for badge tracking and build exporting. HeroStats is a separate program and isn't maintained by the same people.
Sorry, my bad. Since the CIT page didn't come up, I couldn't actually see what I was linking to. You're absolutely right. HeroStats is what I was thinking of. Thanks for the correction.

I wonder how people would feel if it was added to the market tomorrow. I bet some people would be delighted that they can get it, even though they missed the event. Other people would be furious that it's for sale after they broke their back grinding through the mission over and over on every character.

In general, how would people feel if the devs always had a post-event sale in the marketplace for the event items that you might have missed? I think that, for starters, they would need to announce such a thing before the event. Also, they would need to be very clear on whether the rewards are account based or per character, and they should probably be the same in the market as they are in the game. And the items might be for sale for a limited time only, like the Halloween costume pack was.
  15. I had a good time. The new Haunted House is great, but I wish there was more flexibility on the team size. I normally play with a group of friends, and there are five of us. That was awkward.

Trick or treating is always fun. It's a nice casual thing that you can do while waiting for someone to get a drink of water or whatever. How did it interact with the iTrial LFG tool? I seemed to have mixed results on that. Sometimes I could trick or treat while in the queue and sometimes I couldn't. I'm not sure what was up with that. When it worked it was great, because otherwise waiting in the queue is pretty lame. I like finding odd locations to trick or treat, like the helicopter in the front yard of the Vanguard base (but not the one on the roof for some reason).

I only ever saw the GMs when I was solo in the Shadow Shard. Just odd luck, I guess.

I also like the zombie invasions. Again, it's something you can do while waiting in the LFG queue, and it's pretty easy to get people together spontaneously, and it scales based on participants just fine. I did get killed while AFK once, but that's no big deal. And the xp seems pretty miserable. I loved the huge zombies, though I can see how that was just a bug and won't be repeated. I'm still glad I got to see it. It seems to me the event works better in some zones than others. Talos is perfect because of that hill. It's a natural gathering spot that's close to the T but not close to the police drones. In other zones it's hard to get together a big enough group to spawn the bigger baddies. That hill is my favorite thing about Talos and I think every zone should have a similar spot.

I didn't do the Banner event this year. I'm sure the leagues did help, but I wasn't on all that much during the event and I just didn't have an opportunity. I like the design of the event, but I think the problem is the spontaneity. It really does require some coordination and a decent volume of players. In a way, I think this sort of mechanic would be much better in an iTrial. Since you have multiple teams, you ought to be giving them multiple jobs, or simultaneous jobs in different spots. That's a great use of the league mechanic. It hardly matters that you have three teams working together if every player is zerging BAB. I wonder if for next year the Banner event could be tweaked to be less spontaneous. Maybe players could choose to enter it the same way they can queue up and choose to enter the haunted house or the iTrials. Give players control over when the event happens instead of having it be random. Just a thought.
  16. If you're really concerned about how often you miss, it might be worthwhile to get that hero stats program that parses your combat log. It's pretty common for people to believe that they only hit 1 time in 10, and then they actually track the data and find that they only miss 1 time in 10, but that one miss leaves a big impression in their memories.

I don't think the tracker is available right at the moment, due to some problems on the Titan Network website, but it should be available eventually at http://cit.cohtitan.com/
  17. I have to say I'm surprised by all the negativity. I mean, I'm not planning to buy it either, but it never crossed my mind to complain about it. I think it's a fun idea to have a pack of things for sale that are tied in to an in-game event like that. Unfortunately, they missed the event...

Maybe it's a question of expectation. I'm expecting at least 75% of the stuff they add to the market will be silly junk that I'm not going to buy. In fact, I hope it is, because I won't get any more points for a few weeks. Other people seem to expect that there will be enormous, game-changing, mind-boggling additions every week for 100 points.

But this zombie pack does make me wonder what they might offer for the next event. What if, right at the beginning of the winter event, they offered a bundle with a bunch of candy canes, a permanent santa hat, a temporary jingle jet, and a temp power to boost your speed or help with mid-air steering like combat jumping or inertial reduction (to help with the ski slopes). And a few presents that you could give to other people. Or something like that. I think that would be fun (although I probably wouldn't buy it). But it might stomp too much on the stuff that you can unlock through the event. I dunno. I hope they're thinking about it though.

Secondly, regarding the events you described, is it possible you did SSA#1 BEFORE the patch that changed the requirement and SSA#2 after the patch? That would explain those events.
    I guess that's possible. I can't remember exactly when I did SSA#1.
  19. I'm sorry you didn't come to the forums sooner. If you had asked for help when you first ran into trouble instead of waiting until you were sick of the game and then coming here to explain why you are quitting, we would have been willing and able to help. Now it sounds like it is too late.

P.S. I don't think you're allowed to complain that there is nothing to learn about strategy, tactics, and combat mechanics and complain about how often you are defeated, both in the same post.

Add that and the fact that he is using level 53 HO's.
Ah yes, I see the second defense number now. Odd. I'm using a Lysosome, which I think has the same effect, but I only see one defense number for me.

But you're right: the difference between a level 50 and a level 53 HO explains some of what I was confused about. Now I'll have to go and look at the market again. I bet those are a lot harder to come by these days...
  21. Because I don't say it often enough: Thank you, Tony.
  22. I'm pretty sure there's something screwy with the trigger to mark you as a hero. I have one character who started in Praetoria, became a hero, did SSA#1, got the hero merit, then did SSA#2 and was not given the option of taking a hero merit because it said I needed to do a morality mission. I even have that little hero power, the pbaoe ally buff thing.

Actually, a 19" CRT would be perfect. The hutch on my desk has a big square opening. I used to have a big CRT there, for about 7 or 8 years, I guess, but it stopped working. So I used this little square LCD monitor for a few years, but it died. So now I have a reasonably large widescreen LCD. It means there are several inches of empty space above it before the shelves start, but I love having the extra width in CoH. All of the UI elements took up a good half of my old monitor. It's fantastic being able to actually see what's going on.

Really? I think you can still read the clue up until the time you call the contact.

I agree with Sam's suggestions. I think they also need to fix the bug which causes text to come out in random order. Unless it's just me, but it seems like a lot of spawns that are supposed to have some dialog get the lines in the wrong order.
  25. I've had the same problem. I sometimes hit Moment of Glory just so I can read the text without being killed, but that's not an option for most characters. In the Incarnate Trials I just give up. So much text, so much story, but all so hard to read with everything else going on. Storytelling in the context of a game is tough. I've tried to do it using the AE, so I have a lot of sympathy for the devs. It's a very hard thing to do. I think they're doing it better now than they used to, but I think there is still room for improvement.
