alignment system questions
Do you currently have enough Reward Merits and Inf to trade in for a V-Merit? If so, sounds like you have "Hide recipes missing ingredients" checked (it operates like a crafting table window).
With the aligment merits you can use two to buy a LotG global for exMpls, or one for five random rolls.
As you run tips, as long as there is a fame spot open below the alignment bars, doing tips will fill the bars (if rogue or villain tips in your case). Even if not yours. When one or both reach ten (Is full) a morality mission tip will drop. Running it will either change or reinforce your alignment. Either one will give you a countdown power for the alignment power.
If reinforcing you get 50 regular merits (or 30 for vigilantes and rogues) the first time and an alignment merit (or 60 regular for vigilates/rogues) each time after that.

Try clicking the trashcan again, but this time make sure you are looking at everything. There may be an option in the bottom right corner of the window to hide things for which you are missing ingredients.
You should be able to see the wide variety of things you can buy with a villain merits, and that will answer one of your questions.
Why would you do villainous tip missions? To get villain alignment merits.
Why would you do rogue tip missions? To become a rogue, so you can leave the rogue isles and visit paragon city.
I don't know about a clear and simple guide, but there is a lot of info, as usual, on paragonwiki:

First, a couple links: ParagonWiki's Alignment article Snow Globe's Going Rogue Morality System - In Plain English
Reading those should help, but I'll try to address your specific questions.
The Trashcan has a little popmenu thing at the bottom just like the recipe screen at a crafting station. If you check it, you may see that you are hiding recipes with missing ingredients. Unchecking that should allow you to see all the available recipes.
What you can earn with Villain Merits: recipes. Tons of them. Many set recipes cost one alignment merit. More sought-after recipes (Luck of the Gambler +Recharge, Numina's Convalescence +Recovery and +Regeneration) cost two. Respecs are ten, Purples are twenty, and PVP recipes are twenty-five to thirty-five.
You are unlikely to accidentally change alignments. There are several dialogue boxes asking if you're sure you're sure you're really sure you want to change alignments.
i finally have started to do 'tips'. I have read the description by Pit (NPC) and it is somewhat confusing and not very informative. for the remainder of this i will speak based on a character that is currently aligned with 'Villain'.
|
It is long, but well worth the read to clear up confusion.
i finally found the Crucible and went in... inside i found a guy named Trashcan.... i finally figured out i have to look in the trashcan behind him...
when i do... he offers me the ability to exchange 50 reward merits and 20M inf to buy a Villain Merit. and that's it... he does not seem to exchange them for anything, and i can't find anyone in the Crucible that does... AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I WANT ANY VILLIAN MERITS! like i said, i can't find anyone that lets me exchange Villian Merits for what Pit says are 'rare items'... don't even know what kind of 'items' he is talking about (enhancements, recipes, inspirations, powers,.. all of the above?)... |
There is an option in the bottom right when you click on it to hide unavailable recipes. make sure that isn't filled. You should be able to see a lot of recipes, uncommon, rare, purple, and pvpios. You can change the slider on the top of the window to change the level of uncommon, rare, and pvpio recipes. Purples are, of course, limited to level 50.
and Pit says i lose all villian merit points when i change alignment... what causes me to change alignment? I have two bars at the top 'Villian' and 'Rogue'. when i do a mission it gives me an option to pick one of these.
|
But i have no idea why i would want to increase the Villain bar if I'm already a Villian (alignment)?
|
can i increase both bars independently, or if i have advanced the Rogue bar does doing a Villian mission decrease the Rogue bar or just add to the Villain bar independently (and visa versa)?
|
if i advance a bar enough (say all of the Rogue bar) and i have Villain merits, does this cause me to switch to Rogue automatically and thus lose any Villain Merits i have...? that's sounds quite scary considering how expensive they are... and WHY do you LOSE them?
|
in short, the whole thing is a big confusing jumble of 'rules' that i have no idea what i should do that is best for me... for instance, i don't want to buy a whole bunch of Villain Merits at the very expensive conversion price (that i can only do once every 20 hours anyway) and lose them because i 'forgot' to spend them (or don't know where to do so) since i don't know when i turn into a Rogue... and i have no idea what good Villain Merits are since i can't find anyone who lets me use them so i have no idea why i would want to collect Villain Merits in the first place...
|

in short... why would i spend 20M inf and 50 reward merits for something i have no idea what i can buy with it, and that i might lose automatically if i do a mission that changes my alignment...?
is there a CLEAR and EASY guide on this somewhere? ![]() |

i'm not exactly sure what Fame points are for...
my best guess is that they give an indication when you can do another Tip mission once the 5 in one 'day' has been done... that is, you can't do a Tip mission unless one of the Fame point boxes is empty...
so if I'm right... the system is NOT that at like, say, midnight you can now do 5 more Tip missions... it is once you have done 5 you can only do another one when the longest one was at least 20 hours ago... so in a sense, Fame points are what you WANT to go away!
but i don't know if this is true, it's just a guess... but i don't think Fame points are spent, nor do you get some benefit from having them (like, say, 1.5X experience for kills)... am i close?

Please note that the halloween tip, the tip to unlock mortimer kal's strike force, and the morality tips do not count against fame points and you can have all of those at once.

Fame points are just a way to track how fast you can do tips. You can never have more than 5 at a time. Fame points can be of any of the 4 alignments, you don't get 5 of each, it is 5 total. They go away after 20 hours. this is how the game limits your tip missions.
Please note that the halloween tip, the tip to unlock mortimer kal's strike force, and the morality tips do not count against fame points and you can have all of those at once. |
they should probably think about re-wording their description.. it SOUNDS like you have to get 10 Fame points, but that you can only do 5 a day and they expire in 20 hours, making it sound like it is impossible...
also it says one acquires 'reward merits' but then loses all '<alignment> merits' when switching alignments... which sounds like one might lose 'reward merits' too (which i'm pretty sure is not the case)... maybe the word 'merit' should not be used to mean two totally different concepts that are acquired in the same sub-system of the game... hehe
but i think i'm starting to understand... after 10 alignment missions one get a morality mission that has to be complete to switch alignment...
question... can these morality missions be soloed?... i have no problem soloing Tip missions... are they about equal in difficulty, or does one need a group to do morality missions?
Yes they can be soloed.
Note if you are on a team and run another's morality mission, you cannot use it to change your alignment but it will count as having run an alignment mission if you have an open fame point.

The idea is that being able to play both hero and villain content is a huge benefit to any character. So there needed to be something to reward people for staying true to one side or the other. those are alignment merits. Also the hero and villain powers are very good, while the rogue and vigilante powers suck.

also as a bonus if you team and the group does a morality mission before you are ready, you get credit for it as if it were a tip. So it's not wasted.

Hero Merits or Villain Merits are the reward for staying a hero or villain. If you cease to be a hero or villain (by completing a vigilante or rogue morality mission and accepting the alignment change), you lose the Hero or Villain Merits. You don't lose what you bought with those merits though.
There are several types of merits in the game (by date):
- Vanguard Merits - Issue 10
- Reward Merits - Issue 13
- Alignment Merits (Hero Merits, Villain Merits) - Issue 18
- Incarnate Merits (Astral Merits, Empyrean Merits) - Issue 20
but i think i'm starting to understand... after 10 alignment missions one get a morality mission that has to be complete to switch alignment...

The thread for my alignment guide has an example. I guess it is time to duplicate it here so that you can see what is happening. This would also highlight the quickest way to change alignments.
---------
Fame points start decaying as soon as you get them, the hint text is non-existent for the first hour, for 1 hour to 19 hours the hint text tells you that you have been famous for that deed from the time you've completed it, after 19 hours the hint text counts down the remaining hour. All the time the Fame Point icon is shrinking, on its journey into nothingness.
Here is an example:
Keep in mind that you can have either 5-Fame Points in tips or 3 tips at any one time, whichever is less. Also note that while I am calling the fame points 1-20, it is only for descriptive purposes as you can only have 5 Fame Points at a time.
- You are a hero.
- Get 3 tip mission drops.
- Fame point 1: Complete tip mission 1, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 1 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- Fame slot 1 is filled.
- Fame point 2: Complete tip mission 2, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 2 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours. Hopefully during this mission you'll get another tip drop.
- Fame slot 2 is filled.
- Fame point 3: Complete tip mission 3, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 3 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours. Hopefully during this mission you'll get another tip drop.
- Fame slot 3 is filled.
- Fame point 4: Complete tip mission 4, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 4 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- If you still have a tip, you'll not get any more tips at this point.
- If you don't have a tip, you can get one more to do the next Fame Point.
- Fame slot 4 is filled.
- Fame point 5: Complete tip mission 5, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 5 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 1 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 1) to get more tips.
- Fame slot 5 is filled.
- Wait up to 20 hours for the Fame Point 1 to expire, or even all of them (if you've done the 5 missions in under an hour). As the Fame points expire the used Fame Point slots move to the left. The right most slot is the slot that will decay the soonest. For the sake of argument, let's say that all the Fame Point slots are empty at this point.
- Get however many tip mission drops you can at this point (5-Fame Points worth, to a max of 3).
- Fame point 6: Complete tip mission 6, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 6 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 1 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 1) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 1 is filled.
- Fame point 7: Complete tip mission 7, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 7 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 2 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 2) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 2 is filled.
- Fame point 8: Complete tip mission 8, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 8 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 3 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 3) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 3 is filled.
- Fame point 9: Complete tip mission 9, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 9 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 4 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 4) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 4 is filled.
- Fame point 10: Complete tip mission 10, vigilante option.
- This will get you 1 vigilante fame point, for a total of 10 vigilante points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 5 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 5) to get another alignment tip.
- Fame slot 5 is filled.
- Get a tip drop. This will be a morality mission as morality missions ignore the fame point timer.
- Complete vigilante morality mission, accept warnings.
- Congratulations, you are a vigilante. This can be done in around 22 hours (21 if you are really working on it). The Fame Point timers are still in effect for regular alignment missions.
To take it to the next alignment step (to villain) will require about 40 more hours. Head to the Rogue Isles for tips.
- Wait up to 20 hours for Fame Point 6 to expire, or even all of them (if you've done the 5 missions in under an hour). For the sake of argument, let's say that all the Fame Point slots are empty at this point.
- Get however many tip mission drops you can at this point (5-Fame Points worth, to a max of 3).
- Fame point 11: Complete tip mission 11, villain option.
- This will get you 1 villain fame point, for a total of 1 villain points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 7 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 7) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 1 is filled.
- Fame point 12: Complete tip mission 12, villain option.
- This will get you 1 villain fame point, for a total of 2 villain points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 8 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 8) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 2 is filled.
- Fame point 13: Complete tip mission 13, villain option.
- This will get you 1 villain fame point, for a total of 3 villain points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 9 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 9) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 3 is filled.
- Fame point 14: Complete tip mission 14, villain option.
- This will get you 1 villain fame point, for a total of 4 villain points.
- This fame point will decay to nothing over the next 20 hours.
- At this point you'll have to wait for Fame Point 10 to be forgotten (20 hours after getting Fame Point 10) to get another tip.
- Fame slot 4 is filled.
- Fame point 15: Complete tip mission 15, villain option.

thank for all the responses!
ok... i just did the 10 rogue missions (over two days) and switched from villain to rogue status...
but the description (the the in-game guy describes) says when i complete my first morality mission i should get 50 reward merits (and it says a villain/hero merit for each morality mission after that)... i had 54 when i started and i still have 54... so i didn't get 50 reward merits...
i now can walk around in atlas park (i started as a villain) so i know i did switch to Rogue... did they change the rules, am i reading the description wrong, or was i suppose to get 50 reward merits and didn't?
Actually, when you first turn rogue, you should get 30 reward merits. If you reaffirm your rogue status, you should get 60.
If you turn hero or villain at this point you should get 50 reward merits (they really want you not to be the middle alignments) for turning hero or villain, and one alignment merit if you reaffirm your status.

From what I understand, when you first change alignments, you don't get any rewards. The change of alignment is your reward basically. Then, when you re-affirm your alignment the first time, you get 50/30 reward merits for (Hero/Villain) / (Vigilante/Rogue), followed by the alignment merit/60 reward merits.
At least, this is what the wiki page says. |
Hero
* A hero that reaffirms their alignment the first time obtains 50 Reward Merits.
o Further reaffirmations reward 1 Alignment Merit instead.
Villain
* A villain that reaffirms their alignment the first time obtains 50 Reward Merits.
o Further reaffirmations reward 1 Alignment Merit instead.
Vigilante
* A vigilante that reaffirms their alignment the first time obtains 30 Reward Merits.
o Further reaffirmations reward 60 Reward Merits instead.
Rogue

o Further reaffirmations reward 60 Reward Merits instead.

It's a little vaguely worded since the text hasn't been updated since the first few days of GR (I'm in the process of finding better wording - "reaffirm" is only for repeating the same morality type, so the first bullet point mentioned below shouldn't be "reaffirm"), but it specifically states what characters get the first time they do a morality mission and each time after that

Aggelakis, your paragonwiki edit needs to be corrected. Any hero can access Fort Trident, even if they haven't done a hero morality mission. Any villain can access the Crucible, even if they haven't done a villain morality mission.
