Was this the hint you gave last week?

QFC (Quoted For Curiosity).
Last week LH said there would be a big announcement last week. Is this it? -
[ QUOTE ]
Someone had blabbed a strategy somewhat like this on Freedumb a few nights ago. I had been buying recipes that were going for a pittance and selling them for quite a while. But only a few here and there. Buy a lvl 30 for 500 or so, turn around and resell to the shop for 3k-8k.
After that night however, well let's just say that isn't going to work anymore.
This strategy will only work with the fewest amount of people knowing how it works. When everyone is buying recipes at the cheapest price so they can turn around and resell them, people are just going to start raising the prices of those recipes when they put them on WW/BM until they level out and there is no profit to be made. And no, it wont' be forgotten in a few weeks either.
So at the end of the day, you shot yourself in your own foot.
I do however consider this as something that needs to be addressed by the devs to some extent.

The markets are cross-server, so whatever happened on Freedom affected the market for the entire game. It is true that this method would not work if everyone did it, but it is also true that not everyone does do it, and not everyone will do it. There will be short periods of time where it is more or less successful, but it's not going to go away entirely unless the devs make a dramatic change to the market.
As evidence, I submit the guide in my sig. This guide has been in my sig every day for many months now. The techniques described in this thread also appear in my guide (though in less detail. Well done, Four!) The same techniques have been published in the column I write for the City Scoop. They also appear frequently in many posts on the Market section of the forum. Other than shoving it into a Global Message of the Day, I don't know how these techniques could be better publicized. And yet... it still works. -

Also, just to address a common question that comes up when we do these exclusives, is why we put them out on MMORPG.com first. We do this to gain exposure for the game. We host articles such as this as an exclusive on a gaming website and then will host the same information here on our website shortly thereafter.
So, if you don't want to go to MMORPG.com to view the video or screenshots, you'll be able to find them on the CityofHeroes.com website by the end of the week.
[/ QUOTE ]
Completely off-topic, I know, but I wanted to draw attention to the way LH uses the word "exclusive" here. The video is available exclusively to MMORPG.com ... for a week. The next time you see the NCSoft marketing team talking about some reward, like the costume toggle powers, being exclusive to attendees at certain events, try to remember that marketing people don't use the word "exclusive" the same way that other do. -
I've done this for two out of the last three years. I have an idea, but I'm not sure I'm game to try again this year.

When the Mission Architect is released, a lot of novice writers are going to try their hand at writing new missions. What advice can you offer us? How do you create a gripping and meaningful story when the main character is a blank, to be filled in by the player, not the writer?

The Market Watch contest from last week is now closed. Tune in next week to find out who won!

City Scoop 2007 Market Column Collection
Issue 9 went live on 5/1/2007, introducing Wentworth's and the Black Market to the game. Two days later, the Market section of the forums was created. On 5/18/2007, the first issue of the City Scoop was published. It wasn't until the June 1 edition that the Market Report column debuted. Protea was the original market columnist. Every piece included a summary of prices for the top value salvage at the time, as well as some comments about the market. It all makes for some interesting reading.
The early City Scoop issues were published as a looooong single post, so there is no way to link directly to the market column for most of these issues.
6/1/2007: Protea's first column. No price history in this one.
6/8/2007: Pangean Soil was 4,720,000, blueside.
6/15/2007: Price histories vanish. Protea blames Countess Crey.
6/22/2007: Pangean Soil at 4,740,000 influence, blueside.
6/29/2007: Shortly after a mysterious glitch in the market.
7/6/2007: Pangean Soil hit 5,000,000 influence, blueside, as the markets geared up for the Rikti invasion.
7/13/2007: Just the salvage prices this time.
7/20/2007: Protea took a week off, and Fulmens filled in.
7/27/2007: Protea was back in action, discussing the impact of the Rikti invasion.
8/3/2007: More about the impact of the Rikti invasion. Pangean Soils down to 4,360,000 influence.
8/10/2007: A close look at the "Honeypot" technique.
8/17/2007: Go. Farm. Sell rarez.
8/24/2007: Unresolved look at what breaks a tie in the market.
8/31/2007: Protea's last column.
9/14/2007: Fulmens filled in for Protea this issue. (There was no 9/7 issue.)
The 9/21/2007 issue of the Scoop had no Market Report column. The column did not appear again until 2008.
EDIT: Corrected dates.
EDIT II: All links are broken. I'll see what I can do, but it won't be easy or soon. -
Some uniques work as procs and some as set bonuses. Ones that work as procs will activate every 120 seconds. If they are in an auto power, they are effectively permanent. If they are in a toggle power, they are active as long as the toggle is turned on and for up to 120 seconds after it has been turned off. If they are in a click power, they will be active for 120 seconds after the power is activated.
Uniques which work as set bonuses are always on, even if the power they are slotted into is not active.
There are also different restrictions regarding levels and exemping between the two.
The health uniques are procs. They do have a chance of doing something. It's just that the chance happens to be 100%. What makes them procs is that they don't enhance the power into which they are slotted. Instead they perform an action, or procedure. That's my understanding of the term anyhow. -
This was your very first post on the forums, Bacchae! That's very high praise indeed.
Glad I could help.
You might also enjoy my column in the City Scoop, every other week. -

We have worked to condense the rules to a more straightforward single list and to make them more straightforward and comprehensive.

I think you meant to say, "We have worked to condense the rules to a more straightforward and comprehensive single list and to make them more straightforward and comprehensive."

Is there perhaps some place where people are specifically discussing the ramifications of PeterPeter's Market Watch: The View On Blue?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, there isn't, but you are welcome to start a thread in the Market section of the forums. -
[ QUOTE ]
Now, what exactly does this announcement mean? Is it JUST another account merging, "if you had only one side, now you have both"? Or are they giving all characters full access to either side of the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
They aren't giving all characters full access. They are giving all players full access to both sides. It's another account merging like before, PLUS it applies forward to all future accounts. -
[ QUOTE ]
Be sure to log in on the blue side and save your password on that side. They are basically 2 separate forums and not just skin changes. It's something we want to improve in the future, but you should be able to work around it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh. I did not know that. I always thought it was just a skin. What a nuisance that must be for you. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Issue 10 (7/24/07) + Issue 11 (11/28/07) + Issue 12 (5/20/08) = 1 issue, I guess you're right...
[/ QUOTE ]
check your math 2007 does not equal 2008, so it was two issues in 2007 one issue in 2008.
[/ QUOTE ]
We've had one issue so far this calendar year (Issue 12).
We've had three issues in the past 12 months (Issues 10, 11, 12).
We had three issues in 2007 (Issue 9 was 5/1/2007, plus Issues 10 and 11). -

I can't remember if it's been discussed before, but does Double XP also bring with it double rewards? With the way loot affects general character wealth, I'd hate to think we'd be spawning the second generation of WL babies with tons of levels but horribly broke in comparison.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you mean double drops (recipies, salvage, and "enchantments"), then no, those items are not doubled.
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't get double drops, but you do get double influence/infamy. -

[ QUOTE ]
Now make it so that people who signed up for Red or Blue Forums can post on either!
[/ QUOTE ]
That's most likely just an issue of cookies on your local machine. If you can't actually log in to one of the skins, it's a bug, and you should probably PM Ex Libris or Lighthouse to get it fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
It happens with all the computers I log into. And my boyfriend has the same problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's just weird. There is no Red or Blue forum. There is just the forum. The color is just a skin. You can use whichever one you want. I don't know why either wouldn't work for you. It's certainly not a universal problem.
Improving the forum software is something they have mentioned as a hope for the future. I know the mods aren't crazy about the tools they get with our current forums. -
[ QUOTE ]
Do any other games have an "Offline reward system"? What is that anyways?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know what they mean. The first thing that springs to mind is the "rested xp" stuff that some games have. I think Lord of the Rings does that? It's something like if you haven't played a character for a few days, then you earn xp at a higher rate for the first hour after you finally log in. It seems like an odd addition for a game where almost everyone has massive altitis.
I wouldn't be surprised if the mission creator were an offline application, and the final results could be uploaded. But that's not really a reward system, even if there are rewards for doing it.
Earning interest on accrued influence? That would make me giggle, but I can't see it as a really good thing.
Awarding badges for least amount of time logged in? A new recipe drop pool: every day you aren't logged in, you get a 10% chance of receiving a rare recipe? They start mailing out free comic books again? Bubble gum? I have no idea. -
[ QUOTE ]
So this applies again like what we had last year or is it only just restating what happened last year? For example, if I some how find CoH or CoV by itself will it still be a standalone game?
[/ QUOTE ]
Doesn't sound that way. I think that any old CoH or CoV code entered from now on will give you access to both. It's a permanent end to the notion of CoH and CoV being two separate games. Maybe they are planning some new stand-alone expansion type thing? Or maybe they just want everyone to have access to bases, because of some cool new base stuff coming in I13? Maybe because the custom mission generator is built on top of base technology?
Whatever it is, it sounds good to me. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes... you too will have THREE attack powers that MISS more than HALF the time and for which you don't have room on your power tray for anyway!!
[/ QUOTE ]
They hit 75% of the time against even con minions, just like everything else.
The should benefit from the new lowbie accuracy bonus, same as everything else.
My high level characters have enough accuracy bonuses from sets that I don't miss much even with the vet reward powers.
You can have lots of power trays now, all around the edges of the screen. I have one tray just for travel powers, and another just for temp powers. -
[ QUOTE ]
I mean what is the point of ordering early just to have your bonus taken away at a future date?
[/ QUOTE ]
To get the bonus two years earlier than everyone else? Heck, what's the point of ordering early if you're just going to die on some future date?
I've never used the Arachnos helm I have. I'm looking forward to trying out the others, but I doubt if I'll get much use out of them. Another attack is always nice even if it isn't amazing or unique. Tagging runners with my scrapper just keeps getting easier. -
[ QUOTE ]
Peterpeter,
thats a great market article. Love the graphs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you. It didn't work out quite the way I had hoped, so I'm very glad it was still worth reading. -
[ QUOTE ]
It says that. However it only effects one person. I believe it's still a typo left over from when they used to AoE's. I have already bugged the Text.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I'm not sure which part is the bug. I was rather surprised to see the AoE radius show up in the"real" numbers section. At any rate, I thought perhaps the guide should mention the contradiction to prevent confusion. In retrospect, I may have sounded a bit snippy. Sorry about that. -

The in-game description of the Christmas presents says that they buff everyone standing near you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Negative. The description says "You received this holiday gift. Who knows what could be inside."
The powers only buff the user. They however look as if they buff others when activated. They do not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Affirmative. The detailed info says "Effect Area: AoE -- 20.00 ft radius." -

Yeah, I blame Talen for the tears thing on this forum. I thought it originated with a South Park episode where Cartman licks someone's face while they're crying over some terrible thing he did to them, but my memory may be playing tricks on me.
*research...research...research*
Ah, if this article is correct, then it was an episode from 2001: Wikipedia.
[ QUOTE ]
Cartman: [walks over to Scott's end of the table] Yes! Yesss! Oh, let me taste your tears, Scott!
[starts licking Scott's tears off his face]
Cartman: Mm, your tears are so yummy and sweet!
Kyle: Dude, I think it might be best for us to never piss Cartman off again.
Stan: Good call.
Cartman: Oh, the tears of unfathomable sadness! My-yummy!
[licks the tears off the table and off Scott's face]
Cartman: Mm-yummy, you guys!
