Respeced another character and AGAIN the game has crashed on me after clicking 'Yes' to confirm and finish it. That is the third character in the last few days this has happened on.
-
It was Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with a lead pipe.
Optimus died and Hot Rod gained the matrix to take his place. -
Quote:I noticed that too and was going to post about it. It seems the AVs and EBs in the summer event will constantly run usually when someone on the team has a pet of some sort whether it is a mastermind or controller with a pet or 2. In the gladiator arena at least once the god champion ran all the way to the other side of the map and jumped up to the top of the pillar in front of the NPC spectators. 1 team mate the other day said it has something to do with no tank or anyone else on the team having some sort of taunting ability or powers that cause taunt. Although taunt may have something to do with it I doubt that is the only reason. I have a brute with taunt and I can taunt an enemy multiple times and it will keep running from me.Was anything changed, maybe by mistake, during the last patch?
Yesterday I was part of a Summer Event team and the AVs would not stop running, they barely even stopped running to attack. It came to the point where they were jumping on the boxes to the supporting beams by the ceiling and we had to follow them.
Then, I joined a different team (of 4 as well, including me) to fight the Kraken in Perez Park... same thing. Started running all over the place, got on top of the trees and had to follow it all over the place.
I believe I understand what this mechanic is for... if there's a bunch of minions, someone nukes the group and one of them is left standing, then by all means... run away!
But when a team of 4 (lvl 29 for the event, and lvl 44 for the Kraken) are fighting AVs and Monsters, they shouldn't start running all over the place when have barely even put some damage on them.
I've noticed in regular missions while solo that enemies seem to run more from my mastermind than my other characters. -
Quote:Not a stupid question but the answer is no. I make sure I'm leveled up all the way before respecing. Both times the game crashed while finishing a respec it did actually go through and when I logged back in I had 1 less respec available, my power trays were all a jumbled mess, and my powers and slots were set properly.Stupid question. Are you respec'ing while needing to level up?
Thinking about it, it may be my graphics drivers. I have the latest I installed in June and it seems lately people have been having problems with nVidia drivers for some reason. My driver version is 301.42. Edit: Probably not the case at this point. -
Happened again. I went to respec another character and I click the 'Yes' button on the warning to do a final conformation and finish the respec and it crashed AGAIN.
At this point I highly doubt it is my graphics card. And I don't think it's the drivers because I installed the latest version June 11, and I didn't start having problems until the most recent game patch on June 29. -
In other words what everybody is saying is: The only way to be VIP is to fully subscribe. You can subscribe for a single month only, but the only way to get it cheaper than $15 is if it ever goes on sale, or you purchase multiple months of membership at a single time where the more months you buy, the cheaper each month costs. And as pointed out, the VIP starter kit is to upgrade new free accounts to VIP membership for 1 month. It can't be added to a premium or already VIP account, in other words any account that has purchased at least a minimum $5 in paragon points, or has been subscribed to previously, does not qualify as a new account.

Quote:For blue side there is a portal in Talos Island behind the arena that leads to Underground Imperial. Once there you should see a door in front of you with an NPC standing next too it (forgot his name). The other way is to take the Inter-Dimensional Tunnel System directly to it.Good evening Heroes, Villains and Rogues,
Does anyone know how to enter First Ward from the Hero side? I play off and on (more off than on) and just picked up a new contact located in First Ward; the problem is, I don't know how to get there.
For a list of what zones the Tunnel portal is located in: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issue_23...ystem_-_TUNNEL
It basically takes you to hard to reach areas that require a bit of traveling to get to. For a list of what zones the Tunnel system takes you to: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/TUNNEL_System
Edit: The Tunnel portal shows up as a Tram icon on your map. (White circle with a blue 'T' icon) -
Quote:I started a post about recent crashes I've been having since the June 29 update that fixed the teleport problem in the Heist part of the summer event.I just played and it happened again, even after I updated to SP3.
So the problem is the graphics card?
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=292499
newchemicals' comment was in reference to me because I too have an nVidia GForce GT240 video card. In my case everything ran perfectly fine prior to the June 29 patch and I've had 5 crashes so far. So far it seems to usually happen when clicking a button in the game such as 'claim' in character email, 'Go back to log in' at the server select screen, 'Yes' to confirm a respec, etc, as examples of my problem. There was 1 time where in the summer event I was the Grifter and in the first part clicked the NPC. Before I could choose 'Flirt', the game crashed when the dialogue box started to appear but before any text was in it yet. All this has happened since that last patch.
But It isn't necessarily our graphics cards. It could just be a coincidence. -
I used Core Temp about a year ago on my laptop. But when they came out with an updated version, something broke and 1 of the functions didn't work right anymore. I emailed them about it and they told me to do some weird steps in Windows to get it working again. I replied back and told them the older version worked fine and still worked fine and they got rude and said to do what they suggested or don't use the program at all. I don't use it anymore.
I did get the WD Monitor and in I clicked 'File>Save monitoring data' and it created a text file to save. But for some reason the forums is giving me an error when trying to post it saying there are too many characters like '<>--;" and to remove some or shorten the post.
But I do have a screen shot.

Quote:My computer came with 4GB ram and a few months ago my uncle upgraded his to the max 16GB, which my comp can also take. He gave me his 5GB of old ram giving me a total of 9GB, not 10GB. His computer is the same brand as mine, HP, and although his is a slightly older model, they are nearly identical inside and have the same exact case. This is one of those 10GB of RAM HP machines. I've seen a few posts about them having issues.
If you want to try and narrow it down monkeyslap, you *may* have to resort to more drastic measures to fix this.
We are going to need more info, so its time for twenty questions...
I would start with cheap and easy first.
How hot is your machine getting? HWmonitor or core temp might give us some answers to this.
I checked on the HP website, you added in the GT240 card, who made the card? The card is often made with cheap parts in order to be profitable but knowing who made it and exactly which card can be helpful. How old is it? It would not be too surprising that the video card is failing.
Do you have a friend who can loan/help/assist with a spare graphics card?
Lets start with easy stuff first, reformatting hard drives is the nuclear option when everything else doesn't yield any answers.
My computer came with on-board ATI 256MB graphics. My mom gave me the video card from her old system after she bought me my current system because she bought a small E-Machine that the GT240 won't fit in (micro ATX I think). She bought the video card on Newegg about a year ago and our computers about a month after. So it isn't THAT old.
Friends? I don't get out much. I'm not really a sociable person in public.
And I said I would uninstall and reinstall CoH and the NC Soft launcher as a last resort, not my whole OS. Are you crazy?
Note: info you requested will be in next post. The forums keep giving me an error about "too many characters, try removing some or shortening your post". -
Quote:Well 5 crashes in 9 days when it's been a few months since I last crashed does seem a bit excessive to me.Note. Five random crashes in a 9 day period, while annoying as hell is NOT excessive.
If you were crashing *every* time you booted up, or regularly when you did specific things (like the mapserv in the Tyrant personal mission).
Quote:There could be a stray memory leak being caused by some screwy conjuction of issues between your hardware, the game, and the OS. Reinstalling, likely, wouldn't fix this.
Quote:It COULD be a driver timeout. But the latest version of the nVidia driver actually notifies you of this and takes you to the MS KB article on the issue.
Also FXAA in both global and program settings was set to Off and I don't plan on changing that. I may just turn it off completely in the game settings though.
Quote:And please don't forget you're running Windows here. While it's MUCH better than it used to be, please understand that "Windows" and "stability" or "uptime" aren't generally related concepts.
Quote:I have random crashing in the game from time to time. You're never going to fix it 100%. Ever.
P.S. Hey I figured out how to multi-quote.
Edit: well at least how to separate your post so I can respond to each individual thing you said. lol -
As per Hyperstrike's suggestions, I turned off ambient occlusion, FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering down to 2x. Then I defragged my hard drive and ran disk cleanup.
The stupid game just crashed on me AGAIN. This is the 5th time since the June 29 patch.
I had a freespec on my Arachnos Soldier from the 8th anniversary in May and used the /respec command. I clicked finish and chose yes that I was sure and the game went *poof*. When I logged back in the respec had gone through though.
At this point I highly doubt it is a graphics issue because, as I stated earlier, everything worked perfectly fine with what I had the settings at until the June 29 patch.
I don't know what else I can do aside from uninstalling and reinstalling the NC Soft launcher and CoH and I don't want to spend 2 hours doing that. -
Quote:You did not reference the link I posted in your previous post specifically, so I assumed you were referring to me. Thanks for clearing that up.You were refering to another post, but that post didn't have any CoH helper. Therefore, who knows what the issue was.
Please try to be more specific when responding to me in the future. My poor little brain can't handle the confusion. -
Quote:I didn't see your post as snarky in the least.Sorry. I sometimes get so carried away with my snarkiness I don't always remember to give full advice. Beat my face in about that later.
Thing is, your settings are up too high for that card.
If you want to keep it at 16x9, I'd recommend turning Ambient Occlusion OFF. COMPLETELY.
See what that does for you first. If that doesn't help, try reducing FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering down to 2x. THAT should give your card some breathing room when graphical *blips* in the game whack your framerates down. If it doesn't completely smooth over performance issues, it should at least reduce something that, previously, would have been crash-worthy to something that just lags you for a second.
I didn't change the settings yesterday but the game seemed to run pretty smoothly, even in AP1 with lots of players around. Maybe the weekly maintenance had fixed it. But, I will try out your suggestions to see if that can avoid future problems. It's just weird how I didn't have any problems at all until that June 29 patch.
Thanks for the help and I'll post again if I have more questions. -
Quote:I DID post the CoH Helper info as per Hyperstrike's suggestion. What hyperstrike is saying is, lower these settings.
It doesn't matter how much memory is on the GT240 some evil marketing people have them stick 2Gbs of RAM on them, its still going to be a slow card.
Edit: Until a person posts CoH helper, I don't really pay much attention to the post.
Edit: You do have a valid point. But I wasn't posting how much vram my graphics card has to say it's the best or more than good enough to run the game on high settings. I posted it in case it was relevant and to get advice on what settings I could turn down in the game for better performance, in case there was someone more technically knowledgeable and knows about these kinds of things.
I'm kinda a dunce when it comes to these sort of things. -
Quote:My resolution is set to match my desktop resolution which is the max my monitor supports. Please note the highlighted areas in the quote above.
I think you're simply overloading the graphics card at your current settings.
Probably not the SOLE reason though.
The summer event can be flaky at times. Even I've been dumped from time to time.
The fact that you're running your card out on the ragged edge of it's performance envelope probably isn't helping though when you come across flaky areas where stronger cards might not hitch and die.
To be honest, for a while before the summer event I had the game settings to advanced ultra mode and had some things turned up a bit and it ran perfectly fine. Shortly after the event started I was getting some graphics lag, especially in Atlas Park 1 with all the players there, so I turned off advanced ultra and just used the slider for ultra mode.
You pointed out some things but didn't offer any suggestions or clarify much, and what you highlighted is a bit confusing and vague. I'm not that computer literate.
And....apparently I'm not the only one having problems with crashes lately.

Edit: My graphics card is a 512MB.
Edit 2: Forgot to mention, my graphics card is using the default nVida settings. Last month I clicked help in the nVidia control panel to have it check for updates and received an error. So I went to the nVidia website and found there were updated drivers. I uninstalled the control panel and drivers and did a clean install resetting the settings to default with the new updated software/drivers in June. I also just did a check and no new drivers yet. -
Go ahead and post in the thread I started. I have had some crashes myself since the June 29 patch that fixed the teleport problem in the Heist portion of the event.

I had a similar question in the help channel months ago for my BS/Shield scrapper and was told that it does have some debuff resistance for your character so it is worth it. It also is useful on a team to give your team mates some defense if you ever happen to be teamed up.
Edit: speaking of which, I might move some powers around today and respec so I can take it at the minimum level, 28, so I can use it in the summer event. I took it at level 49 and being exemped to level 29 in the event, it's unusable. -
I've seen someone in the help channel a few days ago say that only the minimum level requirement is a bug and the percentages do scale up with your character properly.
And yes, enhancement boosters can't be used on them or even catalysts. For some reason people keep asking if they can be upgraded with catalysts and as far as I know they can't be upgraded in any way at this time. -

I did the pahtping thing in command prompt as per the instructions and this is all it came up with. (some redactions for my privacy)

Quote:Correction: As I said, it seems to be usable only on Stalkers while using Hide. None of the NPC transformation powers can be used on my Robotics/Dark Miasma Mastermind when using Shadow Fall, nor can they be used on my Illusion/Time Controller when using Superior Invisibility.iirc the malta gunslinger costume bug has been around for at least 2 years
i did not know that these versions of the powers would be useable with stealth which makes them slightly more pleasing than the crappy versions that dont allow stealth
If I remember correctly, 1 complaint about these powers is that they CAN'T be used with stealth powers, so I was reporting the Stalker>Hide as a bug as well as the costume clipping.
When turning the NPC power on, your stealth power is turned off, and when turning on your stealth power the NPC power is turned off, such as the examples with my characters. Probably intended to do that, but why can it be used with Hide and no other stealth powers?
I was able to find 1 post in the Paragon Market items of the week for 7/3/12 where someone mentions this. But I remember people mentioning it back around Halloween with the temp NPC powers you got in game that lasted for a limited time, and also with the PPD Hardsuit/Harlequin/Rikti Soldier NPC powers they sold in the shop at that time.

NECROTECH_MASTER: "the NPC costume toggles are ok, but the fact they remove stealth is kinda sucky" -
The game has crashed on me a total of 4 times now since the June 29 patch that fixed the teleport problem in the summer event trial.
1 time I went to claim an inspiration from character email that was from super packs and right when I clicked 'claim' it crashed.
Another time I was in the summer event and was the Grifter in the heist and right when I clicked on Silvia Rexem (not sure the exact spelling) her dialogue window started to appear where I could make the first choice to 'flirt' with her, but the window didn't have any text and hadn't finished loading because the game crashed on me. This really sucked because I only needed the Perfect Grifter badge on that character and chose that role to make sure I got it. I was able to rejoin the event but my team was in the hideout with almost the 20 goons defeated and I chose my role again and then entered right when the Silvia Rexem AV spawned. So I had to do the event AGAIN to get the badge.
The most recent crash was right before posting this. I decided to call it a day and log out for the night. I was at the character select screen and clicked the back button to go to the server list. Right when I clicked the 'go back to log in screen' button the game crashed on me.
The other 1 time it crashed I don't remember what I was doing.
After the second or third time the game crashed on me, I ran a repair(consistency check) in the NC Soft launcher on the game hoping to prevent future crashes, but to no avail apparently.
Edited for a few typos.
