Hello, recently purchased an ATI 5870 and, after having some issues in another game with the Catalyst 10.2 drivers, I "downgraded" to the 9.12 hotfix release.
However, with these drivers, the game crashes immediately after the patcher finishes and I hit "next". Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? Any easy fix? -
Quote:Not necessarily, quills crits - the armor auras do not. Plus, the skewering sound of quills is so much fun. Some people hate it, but I can't get enough of that screechy sound and stuff being impaled by random bits of flotsam. Not sure why everyone is dismissing damage auras. I guess the OP was in reference to burst damage?
When measured over time, damage auras will out damage everything else. But at that point, Quills is at the bottom of list. Blazing Aura would be first with Death Shroud and Lightning Field tied for 2nd.
There's too much number crunching in this thread. I guess that's to be expected in the scrapper forum, but the best AoE power does not necessarily mean "does 0.983 more dps/second." AAO is an AoE, as is Soul Drain, Dark Regen, etc. -
OP didnt say DPS power, so I nominate Dark Regeneration ~.~

Endred > Max End > End rec.
Realistically, combine all three in some fashion. I recently made a scrapper build with over 4 1/2 end/sec recovery. -
Never ever play? Energy blaster. The entire set revolves around annoying the hell out of your team.
Last night teamed with not one but two energy blasters on some Knives missions... it is indescribable how g-damn annoying they were combined with caltrops. And, while that is an extreme case, I tend to play AoE-centric characters, so anything with flagrant knockback is anathema. -
Quote:World-chagning events. And by that I mean, a severe lack of them. I've been playing since the beginning and very little has changed in terms of setting, storyline progression and an overall sense of "this is actually going somewhere". A character I roll today is about to have the same experience as just about every other one I've played in the past 5+ years. You'd think with all the super-powered forces around, things, big things, would happen every so often that change the story and the landscape of the game.
Soilent pretty much stated why I quit the game every few months... PRACTICALLY NOTHING CHANGES! Sure, things may get shinier, a new tf may be added every now and again, but there are never any permanent ramifications to a game storyline. Why hasn't Recluse launched a massive offensive and decimated Atlas City Hall? Why is every single Freedom Phalanx member still alive?
Gimme drama, gimme consequences, gimme change.
Oh, and why do Boomtown and Dark Astoria still look like crap? -
Even under the best of +recharge, spamming scenarios, you would not be able to more than double stack the 20s benefit with use of dark regen however. You could potentially triple-quadruple stack the healing flames resistance under the same circumstances.
-
As I found myself spamming Dark Regeneration on anything that debuffs defense and hits with energy damage on my kat/da scrapper, I had an epiphany of sorts...
Healing flames imparts a minor toxic resistance for FA, why not add a similarly minor energy resistance to Dark Regeneration that lasts for, say, 20 seconds? With how common energy resistance is at 50, DA's hole is very painful. -
Thanks, Ark. I'm about to collapse in a heap of exhaustion but should be on for much of the day tomorrow (Sunday).

Anyone interested? I hang out in JFA and VU - some people know me and can vouch for me, others will say, "who the hell is he!!?"
AnywayPlease pm me or message me in-game (@kinaki) if you wanna do the trade. And, uhm, vets preferred but I guess we'll see what pans out!

Loving my kat/DA. Am considering soloing a citadel set for 8 with him
...Imperious TF is another matter, unfortunately.
-
thanks, guys. OG it is then...

I am throwing around the idea of trying to fit both of these toggles into my build but need to know... does CoF prevent the stunned mobs from wandering?
-
Dye it radioactive green and we could have a contender for mini Godzilla.

I can't take anything seriously that suggests skipping hurricane on a controller ~.~

I've played both to 50. Here are my thoughts...
Earth/Storm - you have many tools to use tactically, something is almost always available for AoE lockdown. You pay for this great control with very low damage. Storm helps with this but it can still be slow at times. My personal playstyle revolves around perma-stunning everything in sight with a Stalagmite+Fissure combo, stone caging, herdicaning into a pile, and finally letting loose with tornado and lightning storm. I can solo up to +2x8 spawns in this fashion, albeit slowly.
Plant/Storm - it comes off more as a one trick pony, but what a trick! With recharge bonuses, Seeds of Confusion can easily be stacked to neuter anything in its path that isnt resistant to confuse. Roots does 2x the damage of other AoE immobilizes (stone cages included), so that, combined with creepers, great AoE damage can be had even before figuring in lightning storm and tornado. The downside? Aside from SoC, plant really does not offer much AoE control, there are times you wish you had it. Vines pales insignificantly next to Volcanic Gases.
I personally prefer plant/storm, but I tend to play very aggressivly w/ capped ranged defense, right in the face of enemies . If you like hanging back and tactically using what each situation calls for and letting others handle the damage, you might like earth/storm more. -
Given the choice between lethal and smashing damage, I would always opt for smashing damage.
Regardless, you will love Pendulum or Crowd Control. These attacks hit EVERYTHING (and crowd control is on a 12 second timer). -
Dark/Storm built for ranged defense is a very tough nut to crack. Tentacles to help in herdicaning + Dark Pit to ease the dmg that does get through. Even if you get mezzed, your enemies should all be immobilized, so your ranged defense will continue to protect you (and hurricane debuff lasts for 10 seconds).

Quote:Wow, get out much? The people would have no reason to get upset. I Say. FIX the exploit. I hate exploiters. THey should die.
I won't care if they fix it, but while it's around (and it's been around a long time) and hasn't been decried by devs, I'll take advantage of it. -
...
Anyone tried this lately? -
It used to be bugged otherwise.
