  1. I'm trying to decide between these two powers and it's not proving easy. A damage aura is great. Activation-free damage is good. Plus the slow stacks nicely with static field. Jolting Fences... well, I respecced out of it, but I've come to miss it in certain situations such as when I want to run up to a boss for a seismic smash hold and I'd rather him be on his back when I get there...

I'd probably slot fences with 5x apocalypse which also leaves a sour taste in my mouth (what a waste!), but it makes best use of slots while still getting a proc into the power.

Basically, it's between these two builds:

  2. Strange to say the least, as the ATI brand has been on the upswing the last couple years, especially since the launch of the 5xxx series.
  3. It's an old bug... I, uh, forget how to fix it, but try relogging. If that doesn't fix it, remove and replace a generator.

Someone with a better memory will likely chime in soon enough...
  4. Have you by chance run any diagnostics on your hard drive? I notice its circa 5 years old.
  5. Aye, I would hope the Synaptic Overload bug has been commented on by now - it's really annoying. "Oh look, the boss is confused, it's safe for me to close to melee.... OWW!"
  6. AHCI is a hard drive setting in your BIOS, it can be toggled between AHCI and IDE. IDE is more tolerant of older firmware drives. While we're on the topic of the BIOS, have you tried resetting everything in your BIOS to default?

Are your RAM timings (and voltage) appropriate for the DIMMs you have? Type the model# into google if you're not sure.

Failing all that, if I were in your shoes getting widespread system issues, I would have to try a different PSU - do you have one onhand? If not, I always recommend the old reliable manufacturers like Antec, PC Power, & Sparkle just to name a few. 1100 Watt capability doesn't mean much if it fluctuates.

And, if that still doesn't help, it really does have to be your motherboard. Ever since the flakiness of the 680i line, I've been kind of leery of those Nvidia chipset boards.

Good luck, mate; sucks to have the euphoria of a new rig quenched by a stubborn problem.
  7. 1) Are you using AHCI? Some hard drive firmware does not like it and will cause momentary freezing which can crash a program.

    2) Try disabling your onboard sound in your BIOS and see if the problem occurs.

    3) What brand psu do you have?
  8. You get no sound upon updating your sound drivers? It may or may not be connected, but that's not a good sign Assuming Realtek indicates you're using onboard, have you tried flashing your bios prior to the driver update?

On a tangent, are you using AHCI by chance? Or standard IDE as set in your bios?

Have you updated your motherboard chipset drivers? Ie., northbridge, southbridge, etc. http://xfxforce.com/en-gb/products/m...es/750i.aspx#2
  9. What in the world is going on with the new graphics? My card, Sapphire Vapor-Cool 5870, which averages between 56 and 60 celsius under load in other games, reaches 66 C while I'm ALT-TABBED ! Under load, I've seen it get to 68 C, this being after I've increased fan speeds in my case.

So, two things, why does the new graphics overhaul tax this card so hard over other games? And why does the engine still go crazy sending rendering commands to my card even when the game is tabbed out?
  10. Try updating your sound card drivers as well. Also, this may be a wild goose chase since CoH uses OpenGL, but it can't hurt to install the latest DirectX runtimes from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Beyond that, maybe your memory DIMMs are bad? You could always try running a memtest on them (www.memtest.org). Is this just one application or your entire computer freezing?
  11. Hehe, it's relatively new in the consumer sound card arena, but certainly not an "off brand"
  12. Hey...

A few days ago, I installed an HT Omega Striker sound card alongside a (then) week-old Win7 64bit installation. Since then, I've also gotten two complete computer crashes, hard freeze, etc. I have a suspicion that it's the sound card.

I have since reduced the number of channel inputs from 8 to the default 2 and am waiting to see if I crash again... Does anyone out there have one of these sound cards? How does it function with CoH?
  13. I view it more as a toy power. It's fun to use but if you have a tight build, I'd personally drop it and instead proc out an attack that does good base damage as well.
  14. Think I found my answer... since pseudopets are summoned, the answer is no; alas, no overpowered power pick.
  15. I know, I know - just what you want to see - yet another jolting chain thread. I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to keep this power in my build...

I realize that simple damage procs work in Jolting Chain, but what about procs that affect the caster and not the target? I'm talking about two procs in particular:
    1) Entropic Chaos: chance to heal self
    2) Decimation: chance for build up

Will these procs work or fail as they try to affect the target instead of the caster?
  16. I have an ATI 5870 and enabling both AA and AO creates a dovetail-like effect on corners. It's a known issue with 5000 series cards

So if you had to choose one, which would it be? Everytime I start leaning towards AO for the immersive lighting effects, I notice a horrible-looking stairway that is serious need of AA.
  17. In light of the bug, which do you prefer to have on?
  18. Question for Kelenar...

What Catalyst release were you using before you tried upgrading? I'm considering a "downgrade" to allay my annoyance until next week's 10.8.

    Erratic FPS

So I stumbled upon another post regarding bugged OpenGl under the 10.7 ATI catalyst drivers.... bummer ;(
  20. kinaki

    Erratic FPS

Is this a known issue? is it just me? I have a an ATI 5870 & AMD Phenom II quadcore, hardly a budget system by any stretch of the imagination, and my system will lag while simply standing still and doing nothing.

My fps will range from 25 ->45->60 all within the span of a minute while there is nothing going on in my immediate vicinity. I really don't like this - is it possibly a draw distance issue? Is the engine having my card draw effects for powers going off 10 blocks that'a'way?
  21. Well that's strange.. nevermind - looks fine now.
  22. This is likely an old issue but new to me since I recently got a new 16:9 monitor to replace my aging 16:10 monitor.

During character select (and character creation), the image is squished in from the sides, effectively making things really skinny. Normal gameplay is fine. Is there a workaround for this?
  23. Seems to be hit or miss with 5870 drivers... ;( Assuming noone has any ideas for an opengl quickfix, I guess I'll wait a couple weeks until the official 10.3 Catalysts are released before deinstalling/reinstalling again. That is, of course, assuming I get no BSOD's with my current 9.12 revision in the meantime.
  24. normal, non-test servers. 10.2 worked ok insofar as CoH was concerned. But I'm currently testing the 9.12's because 10.2 resulted in random BSOD's.

Edit... wait, 10.1? I never tried 10.1 Not yet anyway.
