See that? Aww, man. I should probably message you to keep from hijacking the poor OPs post anymore.

But I can remember dragging my *** in from doing a bunch of missions, had a bunch of battle fatigue so you HAD to sit in the cantina to get rid of it. It made dancing something very necessary. Awesome RP there. I HATED it when they nerfed battle fatigue.

And yeah, there were always little acts like this going on...

never forget when my buddies and i realized that you could all do the same move at the same time.

oh man, dang you Sorah lol

    memoriesssssss.......

I used to hear that somebody was going to put out an SWG game that was just like the original...somehow. I don't know enough about that kind of stuff, but I was always hoping.

    Sorry OP hehe

Eventually quit...cause it was taking over my life. I mean...I always played MMOs pretty intensely, but this thing was taking over my LIFE. Quit. Came back to CoH...got into CoV

I loved it. My Twi'lek was freaking awesome. UGH. Don't get me started....
I knew a player over at LOTRO that did the same thing.

They had quit playing SWG some time before LOTRO launched. When LOTRO did launch all they did was talk about SWG and how it had captured her....and the rp was so awesome and all that.

Sure enough..she talked herself right back out of LOTRO and right back in to SWG.

She was in a PA of force witches...can't remember their in-game NPC names...but she was bragging and bragging about that PA and how ruthless and horrible they were and that how none of us on LOTRO would stand a chance in that RP.

I flat told her that I could infiltrate her PA and get right next to her if I wanted to. Naturally she scoffed.

I couldn't help myself. I activated my account again, waited some days and took my male Zabrak up there and waltzed right in to their FEMALE ONLY city.

Let's just say that the next few hours of RP WERE very, very strange, very, very intense, diabolical, past kinky and very domanatrix like...nothing I am in to by the way.

But in the end.....I was sitting right next to her in her bunker in the city...having tea or something when I looked over at her...smiled and said OOCLy..guess who I am :P

Oh, but the point of all this as I ramble on....is that game WAS immersion, it was addictive. It was kinda special.

the character generation of that game has no rival.

The only game where, like you said, you could be COMPLETELY unique when you walked in to a cantina.
  7. CO has got to go a long way to catch up with CoX. I have been pretty much playing it all along.

The ONE thing it has over CoX is the ability to mix your powers. You can have a tank like character with mental powers. I think that is very cool.

The look is just...different. I think the spandexy look is about the same as CoX but CoX has WAY more options.

I don't buy in to all the whining over there...and I have made that point ABUNDANTLY clear on those forum boards

People are just pissed because the change was made and there is nothing they can do about it.

The SECOND best thing....maybe it's the FIRST BESTEST thing is that I can have any damn name that I want. People can't camp kewl names. I really enjoyed making Kilroy. Not KilroyX or Killroy or Killroy with a silent Q...but just plain ol' Kilroy.

As far as the content goes?? it's MMORPG content. it's just as boring as CoX's as boring as EQs as boring as SWG...same old stuff. Go kill X amount of this and bring it back.

On that matter even using global channels and the search tools I am finding it hard to make teams that last more than one mission.

So I guess my plea is this. Are there any RP VGs out there right now that are active and RP commited? That team together and actually do things with each other rather than just using memebers as prestige monkies?

I am really bothered by the fact the only way to really team efficiently is to use AE farms or hope that someone out there is willing to run normal content. The last bit of advice I have been given was to find an active VG and that is why I am here.

I have plenty of characters across the range of levels and I am completly willing to roll a new character to fit into a theme. I am really desperate to find something that will bring back the joy I once had in this game.

EDIT: Just realised I totally failed at the title....
I was waving this flag a few weeks ago.

the suggestions I got were pretty obvious...well of the suggestions that I can share publically, the others....well...

Let's just say that some people have a LOT to learn about anatomy.

Anyway...most of the suggestions were to hang around and interact with people.

So I started lurking about in AP and in the D. Didn't get in to much RP in AP but did in the D, but nothing that seemed to lead me toward an RP SG or anything.

I asked about one SG and went to their website. It seems like they have some pretty good content but nothing jumped out at me.

I just wanted to observe anyway and see if I could spot something going on and run with it. But try as I might I got nowhere...

And I have to admit I kinda gave up.

I was in CO beta and hated it completely. The one of my buddies said it was going in to open beta so I logged in to hate it along with a bunch of other people and I was stunned.

It is completely different now. It looks better than it did when I was logged awhile ago.

But the content does not match up with CoX and as with every game when you first launch you have a very dodgy community. LOTRO was terrible that way. Took awhile to settle down. But the content over there is so very basic and more like a fantasy MMORPG than a sci-fi/hero style MMORPG. In my opinion anyway. I mean your doing your hunting in deserts and wilderness for goodness sakes. I dunno.

So I think I am "stuck" with CoX and my ongoing search for decent RP in my MMORPG.

    I'll keep punching.

it was really just a blatent attempt to show off my dog Tex who just happens to be the coffee house monshtur and the most famous dog in LOTRO as well as holder of the Canine Good Citizens certificate and more than 1/2 way through his Dog Scout badge.

    Isn't he handsome?

oh, oh and Friday I am taking him over to a day-hab for mentally challenged children where he and I will volunteer. I will be taking him over there after they have had their lunch and showing the kids the tricks he knows and letting them pet and interact with him.

They are very excited about it.

So he is kinda super heroeish. Imma big fan.

  16. Not really impressed with CO much at all. One thing it did teach me is that I will NEVER, EVER sign up for a beta again. LOL

All I could think about is 'why am i going to log in to this game that is not finished when I can log in to one that is finished' lol

It will be interesting to see what kind of dynamic this naming convention creates. I am often fascinated by these kinds of things. What did Pocket D do to RP in Galaxy City? How did the AE mission change the game? Since the game is it's own little closed society it is really neat to think of the ripple effects and changes that occur.

What do you do and say when you run in to somebody with your name? I think I would play it up and go right along with it and try and out do my 'namesake' but in a fun way.
If the other Space Trooper was higher level I would be chirping about how I am going to catch them and pass them in my famousnesses.

I HATE, hate, hate, hate trying to find a name in CoX. Of course I always think that somebody is just squatting on it and not using it at all. They are probably really using the toon but I have just never seen them.

I completely agree with a purge. If a toon is not logged on for X amount of time then the name gets removed, period.

So I think I like the policy over in CoX.

It's up to you if you want to go to the trouble, but I really think it'll pay off for you if you're smart about it and don't automatically settle for the first group that tosses you an invite.
I agree with you 100% and this is what I am working on right now. I am kind of hanging out and trying to spot people RPing or watching for people broadcasting about their RP SGs. Have not had any luck yet but I am sure I will find something.

For many reasons its widened this game. In the search window click random and see the vast array of creative talent people have to offer. Its just like anything else, even the devs have made the best farming missions: shadow hunter wolves, ninjas, family, and for all you old school players box herding in Boomtown and Creys Folly.

Its great for badgers. Just yesterday I found a mission with nothing but smasher elites for the warrior badge, so I didn't have to painstakingly go to sirens call for 5 hours and get ganked by stalkers over and over again. Its allowed freedom and the skies the limit. Just try one of the many Elite Bosses/AV user created arcs.

Its the age old debate. I've heard it all before. Lets break this down some.

''We don't agree that you leveling this way.''

To basically summarize players want other players to follow their ingame 'rules' like we're playing their game and their rules and we can't deviate from that. Just fit into a box and get to 1-50 how we tell you and nothing else!!

I mean lets take a broader look at it too. All those scanner teams or paper mission teams that run on invincible in the same zone for 10 levels...isn't that like farming/PLing too in a way taking nothing but council or freakshow defeat boss and minions rooms?

If you don't like AE don't play in AE. Granted its not for everyone. Just like some other content in this game that's left alone like, sewer trial, eden trial, and others and dead zones: Boomtown, Perez Park, Dark Astoria, Eden, and Creys folly, widely ignored by the populous so they can run their scanner/paper missions. I do not have a problem with people running scanner missions over and over again, so don't pick me apart and capsule my post by saying I'm against scanner missions!!

Anyway I'm a vet of 60 months in this game, I've seen different stages of this game and to me, honestly, I think AE has at least for myself saved this game. For me its an alternative to raising the level cap and create some fantastic content that's user driven.
Great post, well thought out. Your points are clear, true and well taken.

They don't really have anything to do with my original point...which is absolutely fine too.

It does not matter to me how somebody gets from level 1 to 50 at all.

And like I said in a different post the title is a bit misleading. I don't really mean that AE has ruined CoX. What I should have said, or TROLLED about as another poster said, was that it has really changed things from my perspective as well as from the two other buddies that came back with me.

It does take quite a bit of effort now to get in to a team. This weekend reminded me of how it used to be. Even if you didn't put on your LFT tag you got blind invites. If you did a broadcast in any zone you could put a team together pretty quickly.

Before last weekend, for the last two months that I had been back to the game, I found getting in to and forming a team quite a bit more difficult than it used to be. So much more difficult that I am shocked when people say they see no difference because it is like night and day for us.

And then when I did get in to a team it was a farm team, an AE farm team. Which for me is not really that fun but not my point.

So the title was misleading, the point not as extreme as some people wanted it to be and has nothing to do with complaining about whether people farm or not.

Actually quite amazed that this is getting posted to still.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
"I attempt to put a spider on your shoulder." It's a very minor change, but makes a large difference in the reaction options. See, while you could pose "I dodged" or "I'm a ghost" after "I put a..", it's still more courteous in my mind to just say "attempt", especially when RPing with someone for the first time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is the key to text RPing.

And it should be so obvious because the fun really should be in what the person does when the spider hits their shoulder.

What is the fun in designing what that person does?

"I attempt to put a spider on Aragololols' shoulder"

Aragololos sees the spider, turns white as a sheet and drops his drink.

    OR

Aragololos ninja back flips out of the way landing perfectly never spilling a drop of his drink.

I mean set the stage, give the person you are RPing with the chance to shine. Believe me, you can't do it better than everybody else so let everyone else use their imagination and talent.

The rule of thumb is to NEVER post what somebody else's character does unless there is a special circumstance.

I saw an exchange in Pocket D the other night where people were talking about reconstructing somebody's memory.

Blah, blah blah about how you couldn't do this or that to the person speaking's mind..

A female toon said how do you know I haven't already done it.

    My godmod alert went off.

So the one guy asked "Ok, if you have done it already where was I born"

There were long moments of silence as the two obviously hashed some stuff out in tells.

Suddenly there was a dice rolling and the female toon won.

After a few moments of silence she gave a city and an address.

I was impressed. They handled it perfectly. They were not in the same SG, I don't think. Now maybe they know each other or whatever.

But the biggest part of that RP was that the guy was willing to LOSE. Though he was a character with mental powers he actually RPed that his mind had been invaded by another persons mind.

There are so many people that can never be caught off guard, never be stumped, never be beaten. It was refreshing to see somebody willing to lose.

    [ QUOTE ]
    1. Stalled characters – we all have them awesome character Ideas that don’t work unless they are over a certain level. Example: I had a concept for a character 4 years ago Malkavian Who an androgynous Vampire who was neither male nor female. I couldn’t pull it off because I needed two characters created in the same outfit as both male and female, now with the new booster and getting quickly to level 20 I can play it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, yeah. Good point. I am eager to try out my new science pack and I don't have any science based characters that ingesting a formula would make me change constumes. So I could get to 20 quick with the help of farm missions. Hmm, good point.

    [ QUOTE ]
    2. Looking inside the strange and awkward ideas that your fellow players have, come on nothing better than Lizards Vs Catgirls, or even my B-Movie tributes with Ed Wood as a quest giver.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well if more of this went on I wouldn't be whining about it to begin with. I am all for this I just have not seen it yet. I will be looking more closely.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm a little confused. You say soloing is boring but you don't mind "parking" somewhere and waiting for an invite to come to you?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess I did kinda mis-speak here a bit...I didn't give all the details. I will park and look for a team and broadcast to find members to start one, I have done both with shockingly diminished returns compared to what I have seen before.

So maybe my title was overstated a bit. Maybe a bit of shock value there. It isn't KOing it, just requiring a bit more work to team up, a bit more waiting.
  21. Here is another angle to consider....

Maybe they were RPing that they were lying? Maybe that was the point....that the claim was so outlandish that it was not to be believed.

Sometimes we are so poised to believe that the other person is screwing up or doing something that they are not supposed to that we do not consider all the possibilities.

One of my toons Doc Sahara is prone to doing stuff like that. He is patterned after those "most interesting man in the world" beer commercials. He will walk up and say "Well, Maiden Glory, I haven't seen you since that nasty business down in Argentina"

Some people will say "Uh, I don't know you, what are you talking about?"

But some people will get the joke and play along.

Now somebody might say that I am trying a version of godmodding there and get mad.

Some people just take it and run with it.

So you never know what the other person is trying to do with their RP unless you....wait for it....RP with them.

Maybe this is way off as far as your situaiton is concered, but it is something to watch out for.
  22. kilroy64

    Has AE KOed CoX?

mmm, no I think I was pretty clear that teams are NOT easy to find now.

I went away before the AE craze hit.

    Came back after AE started.

The difference is like night and day...finding team wise. Maybe you guys have been here all along so you can't see the contrast like I can.

Maybe your answer is true AND it proved my point.

You say a little effort goes a long way.

It did not take effort to find a team before, that's what sold CoX for me. Heck you couldn't run across the zone without having to turn down blind invites.....although truth be told I didn't get in near as bad a twist over blind invites as other people I know...but that is another flame war.

I guess maybe it did kill it...but just for me.

However it is true that it is still new and shiny so that is where folks are going to be.

Maybe after everybody gets that 50 and has not seen any content there will be more content driven AE missions.

I am sure they are there but nobody advertises that in broadcast. It's all bout the Boss farm teams.

I guess I could sift through the missions, find some that have a story line, check them out solo a bit to see what they are like and then go out and build a team.

Yeah, that is not a "little effort"
  23. kilroy64

    Has AE KOed CoX?

CoX is a pretty cool game. I mean from EQ1 to Champions Online it's about getting mission/quest and going and killing/gathering. So every game is pretty much the same, it is all about what genre you like to play in.

    Howevah....

I keep coming back to CoX because you can ALWAYS get a team. You see I do not like to solo. To me it is boring. Whether I am soloing with my LM on LOTRO or my first female character ever....my night elf hunter on WoW.....I find soloing boring.

So after some months away I come bounding back to CoX, got me some beer chilling in the fridge, got me some snacks ready, the AC turned down and the music turned up.

I am ready to embark on one of those adventures where you get with a team, start doing missions, people come and people go and you watch your name go higher and higher up the list of team members until, two or three levels and several hours later, you have to log off.

So I set my looking for team status, I park myself in the appropriate zone for my level and I poise myself to sift through the blind invites or tells of invites that are about to come my way.

    /crickets

Oh, well, maybe it's because I am on my shield scrapper. You can't swing a dead cat gurl without hitting a scrapper.

So no problem, I will log my emp/mental controller, i have fort and all the auras and a beffy heal not to mention good hitting, long lasting mental control. yeah, that will do it, a team is a team after all.

    /crickets.

Oh, well let's try the channels, the new looking for team channel. Hmmm, no answer.

Matter of fact there are hardly even any broadcasts about looking for teams or looking for members for teams.

    What the heck?

Oh, this new AE thing is going on? Let's go check it out.

Wow, the last time I saw Atlas Park this busy was when....well I have never seen Atlas Park this busy.

So, let's try one of these AE missions, what the heck a team is a team.

I get in to a mission that has clumps of NPCs sitting around, no goal, no content, no rhyme, no reason. One time I was told to just stand by the door. WTF???

I can't seem to find people out in the zones doing missions anymore. The teams that I have been on are doing these AE missions just grinding XP. And almost every time I have been on one of these AE teams we win a couple of battles and then get wiped out.

    The content is just gone?

The zone driven mission teams are just gone?

What have you people been doing while I have been gone??

    ****edited in.

Oh, I forgot to apologize for bringing this up again because this is the kind of topic that may have been hashed and re-hashed several times before.

    Humor me.
