I am finding it harder and harder these days to log into the game. I have tried and tried to find an RP VG or SG that remains active for longer than three weeks before everyone alts out and stops playing. I have also tried to find just regular people to RP with and really now with AE dominating teams it is hard to find people to RP with outside of the D. On that matter even using global channels and the search tools I am finding it hard to make teams that last more than one mission.

So I guess my plea is this. Are there any RP VGs out there right now that are active and RP commited? That team together and actually do things with each other rather than just using memebers as prestige monkies?

I am really bothered by the fact the only way to really team efficiently is to use AE farms or hope that someone out there is willing to run normal content. The last bit of advice I have been given was to find an active VG and that is why I am here.

I have plenty of characters across the range of levels and I am completly willing to roll a new character to fit into a theme. I am really desperate to find something that will bring back the joy I once had in this game.

EDIT: Just realised I totally failed at the title....

LOL on the title I forgive you though, it caught my attention

I have heard this from a lot of people actually. I've also heard that much of the RP has turned "inside" of SGs/VGs. Which makes me super sad. When I was running the Dark Dominion, it was a VG rule that you had to do the majority of your RP outside of the group (make the RP a community, not just a GROUP of people). It was a fairly successful RP method, and it saddens me that there seems to be a lack of it.

*hugs* I hope someone speaks up, darling. The other bit too is that not all of the RPers are forumites. I mean, I ran a successful RP-heavy group for months before I brought myself to the forums.

OR, how about you try to run a group? That's what drove me to start the Justice Guard in CoH and then Dark Dominion in CoV. I was tired of the lack of proper teaming, etc. I didn't care so much about the size of the group and preferred to keep it very SMALL (max of only 25 members at one time), but these people were people I met randomly in random teams, they had a good play-method, good Rpers, and were consistent players (put in hours and effort), so I asked them to join my group.

You seem to have no issues with commitment hun, why not take a stab at it? I could give you advice and the like if ya want <3

I did attempt my own SG for awhile and it ended horribly. Every person who would join would log on once and then never again. Plus, now, it is harder than ever to find new people to play with. I really hate doing AE farms and as I said I can never find a team outside of it. I know plenty of people will come in telling me I am doing it wrong but I use global channels, I use the search tool, I make my own teams. But even with all that I rarely get on a team.

I know that not everyone on the forums is an RPer but I figured this might be a way to find something, anything, that could get me back in the game.

I have played this game for nearly three years and made so many friends. Problem is they were all PvPers who left with the advent of I13....So then I came here to Virtue and it has been so hard to find a solid group of people I could rely on for game time.

You're making me very sad, you sound so freaking sincere for your cry for help.

I'm gonna ask around for you, hun. If I were still running my VG, I would totally invite you we were RP heavy *hugs*

Thank you for the kind words and you don't have to do anything like that for me. =)

I recently re-made a character that I plan on playing a lot. So if there are any groups out there who could use a somewhat immortal Nazi scientist give me a shout at my global or on the forums, same name. Characters name is Organ Reaper.

Well I filled out an application after reading the SG's theme. I like it. I hope that my character will fit in though...

Making an SG is hard work. Putting individual players' desires, needs and objectivs into one pool and hoping they all get together nicley and WANT to keep coming back. It's harder still to motivate and induce loyalty and envoke something they all want to believe in. Being fair and just to all members is key. You can show no favoritism towards anyone. If you do it will undermine everything you wish to build. Dissasociate yourself if you must, but it's a high price to pay. But if you love what you do it's not even a choice, it's an honor.

I personally have met the best players in all of CoH under my own SG's. And I can honestly say it's made me a better person, player and leader for simply being at the head of those organizations.

Make the SG that you want. If you want to RP then RP, if you want to PvP then PvP, ect, ect... But don't take no for an answer if it's what you really want to do. Show diligence, be the leader that people want to look up to. Be a stable, fair and respectful leader and they will come.

I really sympathize with your plight, I've been feeling a bit of the same myself lately. I might have found a good RP supergroup blue-side, so if you're interested in that let me know. And if you're just looking for good, consistent people to RP and team with, look me up in-game sometime. My global is @Bravo One Eight, and I'm always looking for a fellow RP'er to run with. Good luck!

Weatherby slightly exaggerates our uptime; even including the previous incarnation of the Secret Syndicate, I don't think it's been that long (my involvement with the group that grew into the Society only recently hit a year of time, and I was one of the founding members of the actual Society VG).

But we are going strong, have two solid days of activity and folks spread out over alts but still in contact the rest of the time. And we do have a nice big plot going on.

As for RPing outside of the group, we try to do this all the time, but other than light fluff sort of RP, we haven't had a lot of success. People just won't commit (either to the game or to putting aside the time to RP). I'm not sure if it's just there aren't many groups actively RPing still and we're oddballs or if we just haven't contacted the right SGs/VGs.

Ya know, I hear this from a lot of people. That making an SG/VG is hard. I never found it hard. Maybe I'm just a blind b*tch and way too Dr. Doom-esque to care, but it never seemed hard to me.

I didn't dick around, I would create a loose theme/concept to run with, have a couple of 'stays' for my group that I knew would always be there (at the time, my IRL boyfriend), then shortly after that a life-long friend I made on the game. Those two were great players, great friends, we got along great, played great, had similar hours (obviously), and we just rolled together.

In the rolling about together, we would randomly team with people, merge teams, or join teams. Almost every team we joined/created/merged we made buddies. Some buddies were destined to join us, others were not. So for the former, I would simply be upfront with what we were, what we wanted, and if they wanted to join cool! But we had a standing rule of even thinking of joining people - they had to get along with us OOCly (teamspeak, or ooc chats), they had to play the game WELL and jive with our playstyle, and they had to obviously RP-flow with us.

It always seemed to work. Granted, I have a pretty overpowering personality and I am a bit of a control freak so mayhaps the people were scared of denying me LOL!

Anyway, even in the running of the SG/VG...so long as you have at least ONE person who is going to be your second-in-command that has that loyalty to you who will continue your leadership in your absences, I don't think it's that freaking hard.

I never kowtowed to my members. Again, I had a singular vision of the kind of group I wanted and I wanted to see it executed (and if people didn't like it, they could leave, no big deal). Obviously there were things I would give them freedom over, individual things, but when it came to the group, you joined, you knew what you were getting into, deal with it or leave LOL.

Case and point, I simply typed up a 1 to 2 page "charter" that everyone had to read, understand, and follow. (I think I still have it actually). I dunno, I just never found the work itself that hard (including website, forums, and doing group artwork!).

THE ONE part I found annoying/irritating/hard was that everyone looked to me and me alone to start major RP events, I had to constantly remind them about that rule, that while I ran the VG, that they were responsible for partaking in the RP or creating their own (in which I would join in). And then also the private-tell hells I would get into. I'd be in the middle of trying to RP with peeps on a mission, and I'm bombarded with 1029581029381029381092480157102948098 private messages. BLAH.

Wow, I babbled, MY POINT HERE IS - it's not that hard. Just be CLEAR with what you wanna do and be "fine" if people don't want in or want to leave

....

/end tangent

Sorry. I wanted to share my perspective on the whole thing.

I was fortunate to stumble into the Overbrookers and though we are really only active about once (maybe twice) a week I get my RP fix there. If I wasn't working most monday nights I'd have another RP SG to hang out with. It might be harder to find Redside RP... I'm no expert on that side of the game though. If anyone has their tuesday nights open feel free to check out our listing in the SG groups forum post and put in an application.

Hello Shade, it's Jag if you remember me. Did the Hideout disband or something? Seems like you guys were doing well not too long ago. (Of course it has been a while since I've heard anything.)

Hey Jag. We put the Hideout down because really, niether Gelle nor I had the time to be on every night. Plus the fact that we would take week long vacations everyonce in awhile without a stable officer to keep things going when we were gone didn't help...

Then school started up for Gelle and we just decided that it wasn't ment to be.

BTW Shade, have you spoken to any one from the SS yet? What times are you usually around, so we know when to catch you?

I haven't checked (whatever Aggie's join date is), but I think late September or early October will be the 1 year anniversary of the Society. *sniff*

Actually, looks like we missed it. August 4th was the one year anniversary; August 11th was the first "recruitment", when 'Star asked Eiko to join up.

Huh. Though it was later than that.

As Eiko said, we've been -trying- to include other VGs and SGs from day 1, pretty much. Never seems to fail though that the other groups either
-drop off the face of the earth for months at a time after setting up something
-find some sticking point in the incredibly flexible RP we do, and thus refuse to do anything else
-leave en masse for other MMOs without giving us any indication they were doing so
-dissolve in a couple weeks
-show up to plan OOC, but never show up IC
-get lost in AE

I'd love to RP outside of my group, I really would. But in my experience, it just hasn't been worth it in the long run.

Yeah we really have been missing each other. I was on almost all of Monday but I guess I went and made dinner at the wrong time or something. I will REALLY try and get ahold of someone soon because my work schedule for this week is...well...a whole lot of long hours.

Our highest points of activity generally start after 10pm EST, but I'm occasionally on earlier (though not usually reliable before 8:30 EST).

I was waving this flag a few weeks ago.

the suggestions I got were pretty obvious...well of the suggestions that I can share publically, the others....well...

Let's just say that some people have a LOT to learn about anatomy.

Anyway...most of the suggestions were to hang around and interact with people.

So I started lurking about in AP and in the D. Didn't get in to much RP in AP but did in the D, but nothing that seemed to lead me toward an RP SG or anything.

I asked about one SG and went to their website. It seems like they have some pretty good content but nothing jumped out at me.

I just wanted to observe anyway and see if I could spot something going on and run with it. But try as I might I got nowhere...

And I have to admit I kinda gave up.

I was in CO beta and hated it completely. The one of my buddies said it was going in to open beta so I logged in to hate it along with a bunch of other people and I was stunned.

It is completely different now. It looks better than it did when I was logged awhile ago.

But the content does not match up with CoX and as with every game when you first launch you have a very dodgy community. LOTRO was terrible that way. Took awhile to settle down. But the content over there is so very basic and more like a fantasy MMORPG than a sci-fi/hero style MMORPG. In my opinion anyway. I mean your doing your hunting in deserts and wilderness for goodness sakes. I dunno.

So I think I am "stuck" with CoX and my ongoing search for decent RP in my MMORPG.

I'll keep punching.

Why doesn't someone just start a freaking RP group? I mean seriously? This seems a bit ridiculous now.
