Quote:Can I have your stuff??Howdy.
I'm dabbling in City of Heroes whilst bored with WoW (Moon Guard, if anyone else is doing the same), and I haven't been back to actually play in CoH since before the Architect system was launched. Lots of changes I'm noticing, all of them pretty darn good. I'm having fun.
Anyways, my favorite feature by far is the Architect thing. I like it so much that I forget to run missions around and about and I'm wondering if that will have any detrimental effect on my playing down the road.
Is it possible to get to 50 in this system? Is there enough content, or would I have to repeat everything a bunch of times to do that? Are there any cautions about this system?
When do I need to start getting Invention Enhancements as opposed to single-origin? Does it matter?
Are there any RP hotspots on Virtue, like the old Park gatherings in Atlas (Skyway, maybe? I don't remember.) where the irish chick used to perch on the rock and then made everyone cry by perma-dying? I hear Pocket D is maybe bleagh nowadays?
How is the health of the consignment place nowadays? Inflated or reasonable for a new/non-influence-stockpiled character? -
Quote:You are really ruining my immersion in to this thread and....I really...want to thank you for it.Not to get off topic here, but as I was reading the thread I kept seeing "OOC" being used, and it reminded me of something. The other night my character Shock N Awe and a friend's character were discussing one of the newest movies they had both seen. I mentioned the Crazies, since I literally had just watched it online before logging into to CoH. Now we were both IC talking about this, which should've been obivous seeing as how my friend mentioned using a flame power on a chatterbox kid as a lil prank to shut him up during the movie.
Then I get this random-*** tell /telling/...not asking... me to take our OOC convo elsewhere because I was ruining someone's immersion in the game. When I told them we were being IC..they actually said "bull****", that is a RL movie and doesn't exist ingame..take it somewhere else." Now. what kind of rude-*** **** is that? Acting like this doesn't help anything, or improve the game for anyone..and before anyone says.. "oh maybe the person was just having a bad day." Guess what...I don't really care what kind of day a stranger is having..no need to be rude to people you don't know. Badday rudeness is reserved for family, friends, and co-workers...and its better off that way because they will /hopefully/ forgive you.
Sorry for the random vent..just wanted to put that out there. I'll try to keep my rants to myself in the future:P
No but seriously folks, I know what the OP is saying and I agree with some if not all of what everybody else is saying.
The thing you have to do is not let people ruin your day or your playing experience. And that goes for IRL as well in a game. Easier said that done, I know.
Like this person asking you to stop talking about a movie. It didn't sound like you let it ruin your day, you just went on and did what you wanted anyway. Who cares what the freaks say!?
I quote Denzell Washington in Training Day
**** them and everybody who looks like them. -
Quote:Unfortunately in the world today I don't think you can come anywhere near narrowing this down to just Pocket D.Just curious why is the vast majority of people in the Pocket D, hatefilled spewing on about people's race sexual preference you name it. For this being a supposed roleplaying community this shocks me. Or is there better place find like minded individuals? If so point me to this place.
-
Yeah but this server drops faster than the stock market.
-
Bah, still not an issue. Rude is walking up and saying.
"Wow, you really think that costume combo looks good?"
Or "I know your team is lame without me"
Or "When you want to stop messing around with those idiots add me to your team"
Or "yes those graphics do make your butt look big"
Not "Hey, you have any room on your team?"
But did I read the OP say that it is NOT rude to send out blind team invitations? -
Yep, this server goes down faster than and more often than a two dollar h*****
-
Quote:In my opinion this does not apply because this is a silly little game. The act of playing this game does not measure up to any real world occurance like asking to go to the movies with somebody when you are not invited or any of the other examples.Okay, serious question time. This one is primarily directed at Silencer7, but anyone can feel free to chime in.
What is it that makes an MMO a different social space than the real world? Why do normal standards not apply (or different standards apply, if you prefer to phrase it that way)?
That is the real world, this is a game and I just feel like comparing the two is putting too much stock in to the importance of the game.
It shouldn't even sit in the same room as a real world face to face fau paux, it's not that important. But again, that is just my opinion no offense to anybody who has posted in this thread.
As a matter of fact somebody could walk up to my character in game and call me a dirty, rotten, low down Redskin fan and I would not consider that rude because it is in a game. It does not even register on my "human" scale. It's not that important.
To echo what another person said I do not find these kind of requests rude but they can be annoying. If your trying to stay alive and keep your team alive it is a pain to try to answer the question. Not sure why I feel compelled to answer it. If I found it rude or annoying I could just ignore it.
But then again I do not flip out with blind team invites either. My RL buddies are that way. They get their nose all out of joint if somebody DARES to throw a blind team invite. If I need a team I accept it. If I don't I refuse it. I don't even have to answer the human on the other end. -
Invisible was truly one of the hardest rocking songs of all time. Never forget the first time I heard it, which is surprising given my state at the time :P
And Holy Diver has to be one of the best albums, song for song. Not a weak song on it just teeth rattling, hold on tight rock and F'n roll. Not pissin and moanin about who's daddy did what to who or who'se mamma didn't love them.
Shut up and rock.
And we always said that Dio was the BEST at the post-lyric, song wind down, extra lyrics at the end of the song mumblings.
Rock on Man on the Silver Mountain.
She was straight from hell but you never could tell 'cause you were blinded by her light
She could crack your brain with magic pain and turn a paler shade of white.... -
Hmmm, here I am posting.....
strange.
If I have all the facts here it would seem to me that a BAN right out of the box is too severe.
The world is too diverse to expect everybody to abide by the same high level of good taste that somebody else subscribes to.
I find it in bad taste, very, very bad taste but I would not give it another thought if I read it. Of course my life has not been impacted by the subject matter so it might be easier for me.
To me that is what you do to most things that are said for shock value or whatever. You just do not give it a platform, do not make it a big deal.
I mean why not a warning in private? Why not a STRONGLY worded warning? Don't do it again, not even once. If you do, your gone and your gone for good.
Anything else seems a bit power hungry and a sort of childish "i'll show you attitude"
Again...IF I have all the facts. -
Couple of things about this community. I know they/we wont like to hear it but it is very cliquesh here.
I was in EPIC battles some years back on here about many different topics. I find it easy to admit when I am wrong because I don't really put much stock in what people think about me at all. So admitting that I am wrong to them is no big deal.
But I found that if you DO stick to your guns and are not persuaded other people can get pretty close to stamping their feet and holding their breath to make you agree. Some don't like it if you don't agree with them just because they have 2, 3 or 4k posts on here.
There is just this foolish status thing...it's the only way I can think of to explain it...that you have to get past. Like one poster said...they actually copied out the OPs forum join date and number of posts.
And because the join date was recent and the number of posts were low then that automatically meant you did not know what you were talking about.
I mean isn't that really ridiculous? People who posts on the forums are for most part are SO self important that they cannot believe that somebody may actually know what they are talking about but have never posted on these forums before.
I just can't tell you how pompous and self important that is.
And the post about RP is a great example of how they/we will twist things so terribly.
Your post was the 498th post about "what is RP." Now some people did answer that question but most just ******* about your font.
/gasp
Isn't that Hijacking a thread???? For a community that spewed on and on and on about how out of line you were for actually typing in a forbidden font and color it is kind of amazing that the forum nazis would break one of the cardinal rules about forum posting and hijack your thread???
If we are quoting forum policy would it not have been proper to send messages to the OP rather than hijack the thread?
So they/we all use the rules when they are conveniant for us and we can use them like a weapon or a crutch.
I guess it depends on what your join date is and the number of posts you have. -
Shouldering the swell the little schooner corkscrewed over the top before sliding into the trough and starting the climb up the next. Kilroy stood with the tiller braced against his thigh watching the sea, rigging and sky all at the same time.
The Shark was running close hauled on a starboard tack, the crew hiked out on the starboard rail enjoying the sea spray that boiled down her side.
"Prepare to tack!" Kilroy shouted.
Springing to life instantly the crew raced across the deck to their places.
"Helms a'lee!!" he roared and shoved the tiller over.
The nimble craft responded instantly, turning on her heel. The big boom swung to starboard as the crew hauled vigerously on the main sheet. As she passed through the eye of the wind there was a moment of luff, when the big jib and mainsail shivered in their rigging for just a moment. But she payed off perfectly, her snow white sails filling with wind and the boom bouncing against it's lines with that tell-tale sound before the sheet was hauled down.
"Sheet home....the Devil rot your eyes.... or I will keel haul every last one of you!" Kilroy roared, working the tiller with his thigh, feet spread wide on the slanting deck.
The crew smiled to each other as they quickly secured and flemmished the lines before heading to the port rail, hiking out again.
The wind's intensity suddenly surged and The Shark heeled far to starboard, her rail awash in the foam. The crew on the port rail howled and laughed as they rose higher and higher in to the salty spray. Kilroy stood with his right leg almost completely straight, his left bent at a forty five degree angle on the now wildly slanting deck, the tiller pressed hard against his thigh.
"She's really runnin' now boys! They haven't got a chance!" he cried above the sound of the wind howling through the rigging.
The crew cheered wildly, waving their hats in the air with one hand while maintaining a death grip on the rail with the other.
Chancing a look over his shoulder he breathed a sigh of relief. The pirate vessel was now hull down to the South. The Sharks had been on their way to a perfectly good visit to the Rookery when the sail had appeared on the horizon. Not wanting to be trapped in the cove they had to haul their wind and run.
"I hate pirates" he said to himself. "Scum" -

As you read bios more and more, you will find nothing surprises you.

Quote:Oooooh, you are the Empire of Atlantis. I have seen you guys around and I have lurked some of your RP.http://virtueverse.com/index.php/Quinton_Vance

http://virtueverse.com/index.php/Empire_of_Atlantis
Take a look at those as ask yourself. "Would someone who hates RP put that much time and effort into virtueverse?"
The short answer is: No.
I don't hate RP in the slightest. In fact, I treat the art with utmost respect. I just won't bite my tongue when it comes to the addressin' folks. I don't do it in the real world so I ain't gonna start here. I'm not always nice, but I'm 100% honest.
I stand corrected sir.
Very impressive stuff, love it. I suddenly have RP-envy. -
I agree pretty much but it does kind of depend on how it is done.
I for one would LOVE something like this. If I just walked up to observe some RP and it started to look bad for me as far as I am starting to see that I am getting framed, I would be absolutely thrilled with RP like that.
Infact I have searched 5 or 6 MMORPGs for RP like that and never have I found it.
And aren't you an RP hater/griefer??
it's an unfair world. -
Nice...
Love stuff that has "that look" you know?
poo poo on you talented peeple :P
I can almost belch the whole alphabet!!! -
Quote:haha, what he said Sorah!!But I don't think the younger guys appreciate the situation. All I hear in modern rock songs are whiny boys complaining about how mean girls are. My advice to them: Grow up. Be nice. Put on deoderant and clean clothes. If your hair is long, keep it washed. If you keep your head shaved, smile more often so you don't look like a criminal. Smile more often anyway. (Smile when you say hello. And always smile sincere. If you can't find reason to smile, go see a therapist. Girls love it when guys flash a genuine smile.) Speak clearly. Open doors for ladies, even if it is old-fashioned. Don't expect sex after a date. Keep your house/car clean and tidy. Don't whine. If you're overweight, date overweight girls. They can be beautiful too. Or go on a diet. If you're ugly, be beautiful on the inside, and let that outshine your looks. Never let your expectations of others exceed what you're willing/able to give to them.
ooh, damnit now i have to edit in. But you know there has been a "bad boy" trend over the last 15-20 years that did some serious damage to manners.
Go ahead and call a woman under the age of 35 "ma'am" one time and check out the various reations you get.
Back when I was coming up I said ma'am because if my grandfather or father heard otherwise I got my *** kicked, so it was 2nd nature.
But now-a-days...it can be looked at as a sign of weakness. Seen it happen.
