  1. I keep wanting to try mercs, what's best to pair with them?
  2. justisaur

    why robots?

Although they do more unresisted damage than any of the other pets, and I seem to be stuck on them, I actually don't care for robots much. Mainly because most people hate to team with bot mms. In open areas they all do a good bit of knockback and can send things bouncing far away from melee and out of area effect powers. The burn patch has a fear effect which sends even more mobs running in all directions. They are the largest and most obstructive of the mm pets, making it hard to see or get past them (not as much as a problem as it used to be, but still a problem). All of this can actually prolong fights to the point a team would have been better off with no one.

Solo most of those issues are far less of a problem, all the knockback and fear can be considered mitigation, although it can still be quite irritating when everything has run or been knocked out of your dark patch or freezing rain, or what have you.

  3. I'm bored with my other characters, and wanted to try something different. I usually run with bots on my MMs, but I always get irritated with them in higher levels. I can never get my necros very high, and I just didn't like arsonists dying all the time.

Therm is the new one to try out, and I've never done it as a corruptor, and I although I can think of a theme for Mercs on fire, I think Ninajs might be better. So I'm thinking of of a Ninja/Therm build, but I haven't the foggiest of what powers or slotting to get. Obviously all the pets and upgrades for them, but I haven't a clue beyond that.

    Here's a starting point I guess...

Don't fool yourself. I started my VEAT before AE, and I found 9 out of 10 other VEATs (that weren't 50) at the time didn't take any of the TT powers. I berated the majority of them, but eventually I gave it up as a lost cause.

  5. This is a build I'm going to try to go for mainly for SFs, TFs & Raids (Mostly Rikti). I wouldn't mind a nod to PVP, but it's not a priority. I started with Topdoc's build and went from there changing to powers/slotting I thought would be better for me & my play style. I'm 40 now, so anything beyond that I don't know if I like, anything below that I have and like, I've avoided AE so it's been a long slow climb, but I know my powers really well. I have about 50 mil to spend right now, hopefully a lot more by the time i'm 50 and respec. I'm looking for help tweaking it, both to lower price and increase effectiveness. Obviously the LotGs are far off.

I'm also wondering if I could be a mini-tank if I took confront instead of something, with all that defense, or if it's needed since the team will be (mostly) mind linked, and vengeanced if someone dies.

I have elude right now, and it's saved my butt several times, not just the defense, but the recharge & recovery & even movement really help in tight spots. I really hate crashes however, and I can see possibly specing out of it eventually, probably to combat jumping, but not until everything else is filled out. At least when it's crashed on me so far I've gotten out of whatever tight spot I've been in before that happened, unlike crashes on my brute.

I'm also looking for a cheap Fortuna build for the same purposes to try out on my alt build.

  6. I tried to like Fortuna, I love confusion (one of my favorite toons is a plant dom), but I just found it too difficult to level, so shelved it for a long time. Eventually I came back and switched over to Nightwidow. The Nightwidow owns. I swear I'm more survivable at 40 than my IOed out SM/WP brute who has about 10 purples. I can't quite keep up damage wise when he's got full fury going, but on the other hand I've got a ton of team buffs, where he's got none, and some nice debuffs in the attacks as well.

I think both Fortuna & Nightwidow are a little weak right after the forced respec at 25, maybe up to 35, but my Nightwidow was much easier than the Fort. I'm definitely going to try out the alt build with Fortuna again after I hit 50, but I just can't see how it could be as effective in any situation besides a farm. If I really want control my plant dom would be far better at doing it, and he's no slouch at putting out the damage after i15 either.

One last thing about it... Nightwidow seems like an extention of Bloodwidow which you've been playing up to 25 to get there, and Fortuna plays like a totally different class, which can really throw you for a loop.

So I'd say try Nightwidow first, and if you don't and don't like the Fortuna, switch first before giving up on it.
  7. Ah thanks, didn't know about steadfast protection.

I'm mostly thinking of ID for status protection anyway.

Is the status resistance IO from Impervium Armor any any good?
  8. justisaur

    ?/Sonic

I've got a Sonic/Kin Corruptor. While I think she's a great addition to a team, I realized a Kin/Sonic Defender would be even better. Then I got to thinking, /Sonic is great, and in many cases (fighting an AV after his cronies are dead) of more use than FS+SP, but teams are expecting you to do FS+SP+SB+Transference+Transfusion+etc, and that's a lot of clicking especially if you are trying to get some sonic attacks in for the -res.

So I'm looking for something less clicky that I can pair with /Sonic so I can focus on clicking those -res powers. Being most useful/wanted on TFs is probably most important after low clickyness.
  9. I'm not entirely sure what I want to focus on for my sets, I don't seem to really need more -recharge with kin, so I figured ranged defense might be good. I've never tried to go for defense before. I'm really finding slots hard to come up with... I wish I had about 20 more

I mostly like to do speed TFs so keep that in mind for what I'm trying to do. I'm also wondering if I've gimped some of the other powers by taking out too many slots.

Anyway here's what I've come up with so far...Villain Plan by Mids' Villain Designer 1.401

PS. finally figured out exporting to phpBB from mids seems to work with the new forums.
  10. My Sonic/Kin (now 50) is ridiculously easy, the easiest of any Corruptor, blaster, or defender I've ever played.

Solo missions - I Siren's Song, everybody is asleep, if not then I Shout the one who isn't. Then I Siphon Speed, Siphon Sower, then Shout the one I want to kill first (if I haven't already), then chain st attack, meanwhile you kill group after group and none of them have even attacked you. Rinse and repeat. I often will take *no* damage an entire mission. You can do this from 28 on, and I've often wondered if it was even worth it to siphon.

Before Shout (28) it's a little more difficult, but you get to sleep everybody and siphon them before you even take an attack. So you are faster and stronger, and they are weaker and slower right from the get go. You have to intersperse some heals as needed.

Before Siren's Song (18) it's considerably harder, but you've still got good st damage and the -resists from each to help out, and the heal.

My one and only complaint about the set is I wish the nuke didn't drain all your end. That's a real *****, all your toggles go down and you are vulnerable. Hopefully you stunned everything, except bosses+, who are going to chew you a new one. You have to either wait or pop a blue and hope your transference hits something still standing. Then you get to go through and turn all your toggles back on. I've found at 50 it's not really worth the time it takes to recover from nuking, so I don't.

I also still find stamina really really helpful, even with it I still have to transference once in awhile I'd rather be doing something more effective. You could try living without it, but whenever you are fighting something and transference doesn't hit, you'll be hatting life, and probably quickly dying. Also you won't be getting transference until 35, so that's 15 levels between when you should have got stamina and transference you'll be really hurting. You don't really need anything else anyway, you've got room enough for it without skipping anything you might otherwise need. I mean sure you could get leadership, but those use up a lot of endurance, so you need stamina to run them anyway.

One thing I don't really see the need for is expensive recharge sets and IOs, which is really nice. I haven't really done anything with sets, i've just got stuff with 50 IOs and some frankenslotting, and I keep wondering what I should do, I'm guessing I'll go for defense stuff if I can figure it out.

I tried playing various kins and just hated them, rad/kin (no mitigation, so dies like a mayfly), a fire/kin controller(not enough damage early, couldn't tough it out). I tired a couple other sonics too - a sonic/dark and a sonic/sonic neither of those seemed to work very well for me.

    Best at TFs

I love doing TFs. I love merits too

I have a 50 Ill/Rad that's pretty good on TFs, but I've been bored with her for a long time, and I'm a bit unhappy with the phantasm's knockback (I suppose I can just not summon it, but that cuts into damage). So I'm wondering what would be the best Controller for doing TFs (or any other AT, but I'd rather stick with controller). Basically random PUG TFs where you don't know what you are going to get.

I've got a plant/storm too up to the 20s, but not feeling that right now, he's probably allright on TFs, but not really sure. I'm thinking knockback is just too risky on fast paced TFs.

    So best meaning

Able to fill missing roles in those PUG TFs.
Most sought after (so I can get in on more).
    Contributes most to typical TF.
Good early enough to be useful on low level TFs, yet still good at high level for things like ITF & LGTF.

I'm thinking of a plant/kin or plant/trick arrow, but worried I won't be that good at filling missing roles with either of those. Although Kins of some sort are usually fairly sought after, but not sure they are really all that on TFs, and are better on farms which I don't like.
  12. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I respeced and placed all the recharge sets already. I was a bit surprised at just how inexpensive this really was, I skimped buying lower than 50 stuff in a lot of cases, I spent about 60 million, which I had saved up by selling stuff up to 50. I was up to triple dom (for about 1 second) in a group with a kin yesterday who was good at keeping sb on me, I'm not permadom without one though, and been in a couple groups with poor kins I kept loosing domination. I wish I could make both hasten and domination auto, I'm always forgetting whichever one I don't have on auto. Does domination stack for effects?

I was running the numbers again and I realized I've got 7 6.25 recharge set bonuses. I already placed entropic chaos in power bolt, and both sets of positron's blast, so I think I'm going to place thunderstrikes & a force feedback chance for recharge in the other ranged attack powers for the bonus to accuracy & defenses. If I respec again I'll probably take a slot out of strangler and place it in power blast and slot kinetic crash there, since I hardly ever use that power now that power push does good damage. I'm either activating something else with the small window that one or the other isn't up or I can go in melee and get a full attack chain with just those two and bone crusher.

I was finding bile spray a little difficult at first as the cone is fairly narrow, especially compared to roots/seeds of confusion, so I was looking at the powers again, and ran the numbers, it appears that water spout does do significantly more damage - at least against a single target, but it comes with the fear which I don't care for, and I'm getting better at hitting multiples with bile spray... and whirling hands does significantly more than water spout, I really hated it when I had it before, but it was mostly due the the really small area, which I hear has been improved. Some attacks with it I sometimes wouldn't hit anything just because they were too far. I'll probably go try it again on test, but may respec again into that. I'm mainly worried about the running in and out of melee range with it though, as that could get annoying.

I do miss total focus a bit, but by the numbers I can do almost as much damage if I want to get into melee with bone smasher, power push and power bolt in nearly the same time, without being locked into the long animation... which if I am in a team someone else typically kills the mob before I connect.

The Sniper Blast sucks really bad. I never used it after trying it a few times, I hate the long animation, even more than total focus, and it doesn't do nearly enough damage for that long animation, I can easily out damage it with anything, I'll probably drop it for something else eventually. Even though I'm using spirit tree mostly as a mule, it has more use (although hardly any) than Sniper Blast, I'll probably dump spirit tree eventually if I ever get enough of the really expensive IOs to get permadom without it.

I was hoping to start work on my first purple set after filling out everything I've got listed above - Absolute Amazement for boxing, but it seems that even AA is outrageously priced now, some of the enhancements being as much as 200 million, with those prices I might as well buy an armegeddon set.

Even after feeling the permadom for a bit in a group, and the bonus to damage in i15 I'm still a bit disappointed with my dom's performace. I really haven't seen a single situation my Stone Melee/Willpower Brute wouldn't have been more valuable in. I can farm tickets solo almost 3x as fast with the Brute (faster than in any group I've been in, except for one consisting of just him and a Kin.) Control has meant almost nothing in groups, as there seem to be a ton of Stone Armor brutes around now, who can take anything dished at them and hold agro. Groups don't seem to see my control as good agro management, and don't get that we don't even need that Stone Armor brute with me and a kin to keep me in permadom. More damage would be more valuable, or more buffing. I also feel like the extra damage of Domination which was one mechanic that made the Dom as fun as my brute is gone, even if we do more damage now, the fun is gone... I still think some more damage would be good. Leave our base damage where it is and give a little bit from dom, even if it's only a couple percent, we'll at least feel like it's doing something.

  13. I'm a Sonic/Kin Corruptor. I've got 2 powers I haven't chosen yet. I mostly do SFs and TFs. I'm thinking either Leadership (maneuvers & assault probably), or Recall Friend plus something else. Since I only have 2 powers left I can't get the good powers at the end of the pools. I'm also wondering if any of the other mace powers that I haven't got yet are good. Any suggestions?

Here's the powers I've got now...

  14. I just hit 48 yesterday, and I'm looking at respecing, as I never took Stamina, I have Acrobatics, and I hate Total Focus. I haven't actually tried Hibernate but I've seen it put to good use, or Bile Spray, but it looks better on paper than Water Spout which I have now and am not terribly happy with (mainly the fear).

Trying to get as close to Permadom as possible on as little money as possible, here's what I came up with, I know I can't afford this as I've only got 50 mil saved up, but it should be doable in a reasonable amount of time, or if I cave in and fund it with my other 50, which I don't want to do. There are no purples, and I tried to make sure all the IOs were below 10 mil each.

If after I get to this point, and I understand how it works, I'll put 2 LoTGs in as my next big purchases and should be at permadom then.

    Any critiques are greatly appreciated.

  15. I took water spout and have been using it awhile, Mids says it does something like 250 damage... It doesn't seem to be doing much to me, definitely nothing like that... If mids is wrong, is it worth it? I really hate the fear portion, and mainly took it for more area damage on my plant/energy
