  1. My Earth/Thermal just hit 33 and I've been working on his build plan over the past few days. My overall goal is to build for recharge while keeping on eye on maximizing the individual bonuses of key powers (powers are sometimes left a little lacking when slotting solely for set bonuses).

I don't have Stone Cages because Earthquake is my opener and it's up for every group (and I despise the effect of Stone Cages).

I took the Stone epic, mainly for fissure which I muled Kinetic Crash into for the recharge bonus.

I have Hasten within 5 seconds of perma without using any purple sets. Once I hit 50 I'll swap out a few sets for purples and have perma hasten.

With all the recharge I'll be able to keep Forge up on six team mates at a time (or five plus Poo Man).
  2. I will try to make it Friday as well to check it out, as Tibor's team mate. @jthig32.

Are there any guides on general strategy for 3 on 3 PVP? I have many thoughts floating around in my brain on the best pairings.
  3. I definitely like your approach on the accuracy and recharge. In my new purple build for my Fire/Kin I'm going with one accuracy and one recharge in FS, and even those are just to make sure it almost never misses and is almost always up. I could really get away with nothing in FS if I really had to.
  4. The fifth set bonus in Armageddon is 5% recharge. Probably what he was going for.

I personally have BOTH procs in Hot Feet in my Fire/Kin (along with four other pieces of the Armageddon set).

Ah, I just saw I was looking at the wrong build. That is an odd one.
  5. The person making dumb generalizations seems to be backing off, but just in case anyone wants proof of team centric Fire/Kin builds, I'm perfectly willing to post my build that includes SB (of course) Maneuvers and Recall Friend.

My Fire/Kin was my second ever 50, and lest you accuse me of being a flavor of the month lover or PL'er, my FIRST 50 was a TA/A (as anti FOTM as you can get when he hit 50 around i10), and my Fire/Kin was not PL'd one bit.

I did recently respec out of ID, but that's because (imo) ID is much, much more useful at the lower levels when your tanks and scraps have not fully fleshed out their builds. In the late 30's and later I found myself only using it to wake people out of mezzes, but even that is less useful now that you can combine for inspirations.

So let's take it easy on the Fire/Kin generalizations.
  6. I recently started purpling out my Fire/Kin with a starting nest egg of just over 200 mil. I've always flipped on the market to bankroll my toons (I didn't start playing until shortly after i9 was released) but I've only ever done just enough to get what I needed.

So when I decided I needed five purples sets for Yellow Torch I just kicked my flipping up a few notches and started getting the sets one piece at a time. The nice thing about my situation is three of the sets are on the cheaper side because they're the Immob, Hold and Stun sets.

I'm about one month into the project (I'm still not killing myself on flipping, just doing it when I feel like it) and I have three full sets and lack two pieces of the Armageddon set to complete my fourth. My focus was to maintain the 200mil threshold despite bids for flipping or buying purples. Taking it slowly has allowed for my lowball bids to sit for a week or two at a time and get me some good prices.

So it can be done, and really I think you should be able to generate way, way more than a billion in four to six months if you're comfortable with the market. I've generated well over a billion in the month I've been doing this and I haven't really been putting that much work into it.

    Good luck on the project!

Edit to add: I think I'm actually using "flipping" in the wrong context here. I buy recipes, craft them and sell them. Whatever the word for that is, that's why I do.
  7. On both if my kins (one controller, one def) I took Hasten and I wanted invis, so I went ahead and took Super Speed (along with Invertial Reduction) and I get to places very very quickly.

My Fire/Kin went the Siphon Speed/IR route for a long time, but I've been much happier with him once I respecced into Super Speed. Going long distances is a large part of the game (especially if you do lots of TF's) and powers that improve my overall QOL are important to me.
  8. Well first of all, I'd highly recommend dropping smoke.

Secondly I'd think long and hard about dropping ID. I had it on my Fire/Kin until he hit about 45, and then I respecced out of it. He's been 50 for a while now and I haven't missed it one bit.

How SB is handled depends on the situation. IF I'm on a team that clearly needs my controls in order to keep things moving, SB will be applied to the team when I have the chance. If I'm able to skip the control for the most part and deal damage (mostly by standing on the middle of the mob) I'll keep everyone SB'd. If I'm being relied upon to heal the melee types then SB is obviously going to take a back seat.

If there's a stone tank on the team, obviously do everything in your power to keep him perma SB'd.

With my Fire/Kin I'm rarely watching the buff bar to make sure SB never drops (unless its a stoner tank). You just have too many better things to do. But generally speaking I'll apply SB in between fights when it runs out.
  9. Thanks for the thoughts everyone. The plan for my buddy to stay ranged is his crazy idea. I've been telling him for days that he needs to scrap that idea and join me in melee. My Fire/Kin lives in melee and it's an incredible blast.

Local_Man, my current build plan is eerily similar to the build you posted, except I'll be using Set IO's and I'm trying to balance Set Bonuses against maxing the values of the power. Hot Feet, for instance, will be frankenslotted for Damage and Endurance and some Accuracy. My Fire/Kin has Obliteration in Hot Feet because I love the set bonuses and I really don't care about damage or endurance bonuses on my Kin. But it will obviously be much more important on this toon.

And I'm right there with you on the Lockdown Hold proc. I have that in Char and Cinders on my Fire/Kin and plan having it in all four holds on this toon. I luv those Tesla Cages.
  10. My buddy is also making a Fire/Rad.........

I guess I should have been more clear. Since my buddy's Fire/Rad is going to be ranged and focused on the debuffs, he is taking all three debuffs. So my question on which to skip is based around the question of which debuffs are the best to stand on their own and which shine the most with a double application.
  11. I'm planning to run a Fire/Rad Duo with a buddy of mine and am curious to get input on how to best synergize the builds.

For a little background on how informed we are on the sets, I have a 50 Fire/Kin and a 25 Ill/Rad. I'm still very green on the Rad set in general. And this will be my buddy's first controller.

As far as play styles, the plan is for my toon to be the melee controller running Hot Feet and Choking Cloud, and his to be mostly at ranged worrying about the debuffs (generally speaking).

My current plan is to skip Enervating Field because of major endurance issues, and possibly even one of the other debuffs. Is one Lingering Radiation enough to bottom out the regen of an AV or would both of us having it be beneficial?

As the melee toon and assumed aggro taker, should I be looking at the fighting pool and/or maneuvers? Should I try to cover it with set bonuses? Or are the debuffs enough to keep us alive generally speaking?

Any thoughts on the best way to build the two duo builds would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. So I need to roll a new toon. I am rolling this guy to mainly duo with a Dark/Dual Blades tank. We will certainly join larger teams on occasion and do task forces, but we enjoy running arcs with just our duo, mainly.

As a background on me, I have a 50 TA/A, 50 Fire/Kin, 32 Kin/Rad that is one of my current projects, and a 29 Eath/Thermal which is losing my interest.

I *love* the Kin set but since a Kin defender is one of my current projects I'll probably stay away from anything Kin on this guy.

I'm pretty sure I've settled on a Dark defender to pair with him. The Fear and -ToHit stacking seems nice. The one real problem I see with the Dark primary is I have no endurance buff, and a Dark/DB tank is going to be hurting for End a lot.

So unless you're going to try to talk me out of Dark, what is a good idea for a secondary? I'm currently leaning towards Sonic for the -Res. I've done Archery, I'm currently doing Rad and I really don't have much interest in Electrical or Energy. I've long thought of rolling a Dark/Dark, but the -ToHit from the my primary and the tank's primary would seem to make the secondary effect of Dark Blast a bit excessive.

So help me out here. Give me some ideas and the pros/cons.
  13. Work's correctly in my Fire/Kin, in both Char and Cinders. Cinders is quite cool when two or three of those things pops up.

    Earthquake...

Ah. Well time to redo that part of the build then.

    Thanks.
  15. jthig32

    Earthquake...

I do have knockback slotted into the power; I have a knockback set in it. Does increasing the mag of the knockback change it from knockdown to knockback?
  16. jthig32

    Earthquake...

Why is Earthquake on my lvl 25 Earth/Thermal behaving more like Bonfire than Ice Slick? I ran a sister Psyche and the Freaks kept being propelled outside the radius just like Bonfire does.

  17. My 50 TA/A went without Stamina for a very long time. In fact I only went with Stamina after deciding to run two of the leadership toggles late in his run.

Before picking up Stamina the only factor that annoyed me was not being able to use Hover unless I was on an 8 man team.
  18. jthig32

    Hamidon Raid?

Forgive my ignorance, but what are EoE runs?
  19. Yeah it was. We had a good run too. Thanks to everyone again.

Umm do we need to have Vent?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, being on the vent server is completely optional.
  21. Look at that, one spot left. And we seem to have all the bases covered so whoever gets that last spot can bring whatever they want.

The time of day will have a lot to do with me joining. The fastest I've ever done Dr. Q was 4 hours, and that was with an ideal team and hand-picked players, all loaded for bear. The longest Dr. Q I've been on was 11 hours. If you want to do this straight through, keep that in mind when picking a start time and team roster.

I can provide transportation (have both BS/Inv Scrap and 3D with Teleport, Recall, and Assemble), or just about anything else: Tank, uber-AoE Fire Blaster, Sonic Def, MC/FF troller, Kat/DA Scrap.

So what time is better for you? We're still nailing down a time as of now.

What would be your run down of what is definitely *needed*? Tibor has an Invul tank that is IO'd out the whazoo that he could bring if that's the starting point.
  23. 43 Fire/Kin sir! I'm in! Name is Yellow Torch.
  24. What do you think, Triumph, can we put a Quaterfield together? The Sunday evening before a U.S. holiday strikes me as a great time.

Tibor and I have never run Quaterfield, but we're relatively experienced with the game as a whole. We put in a lot of hours between i9 and i12 and have recently been lured back after a bit of a break.

Part of the frustration that led to my desire to take some time off was the issues that come with playing on a low population server. I've enjoyed the people on Triumph and appreciate the lack of lag, but being in a small, friends only SG on a lightly populated server proved to be very limiting in establishing friends that could be counted on to team with consistently.

So...for our fresh start I'm hoping to make some fresh acquaintances to run things like Quaterfield.

    So....anyone...?
