    1) I hate how in the tutorial you'll get training popups for absolutely no reason. It's like you hit a waypoint and then, "Ding!" time to stop and read. Couldn't they have wrapped some content around that info?

    2) I don't care for the fact that you can lose touch with contacts and missions due to loyalty changes. I started a Resistance mission in the Underground and then switched to Loyalist (at my Resistance contact's behest -- how confusing) and then was panicking thinking I'd be stuck with half a mission forever, until I finally changed loyalties again and restarted the mission.

    3) I also don't care for the fact that you can just stumble across a contact and start taking missions from him/her without being sent there by a prior contact. Turns out I'd stumbled across 3/4 of the mission content on my lonesome, to the point that when I finally got steered toward some contacts, it turned out I'd already played through everything they had to offer. Not a big deal, but being able to play the game in just any sequence kinda does weird things to my head.

All in all I really like Nova Praetoria and am impressed with the wealth of content the devs managed to pack into just one zone. I also like the loyalty system and am running both a Loyalist toon and a Resistance toon through the game to get the full effect. Overall, Going Rogue gets a big thumbs up from me!
    1) Do you mean the red exclamation marks that pop up on the side with information? You can disable those from appearing in the options menu. It's under "Pop Help."

    2) Only Power and Crusader arcs (Power is Loyalist, Crusader is Resistance) are dependent on you having that particular loyalty in order to do them. Warden (Resistance) and Responsibility (Loyalist) arcs can be started by characters of either side, so long as you start with the first contact and you haven't leveled past them.

    3) There is a sequence of events for all of the four storylines, but it's hard to do it all on one character. Within a storyline, each contact will refer you to the next contact in the storyline. You have to finish that particular contact's story before you get introduced to the next one, however.

You can find a lot of the information in the wiki or the forums on who to talk to and when, like the post that was linked to above.

And I like the heavy text as well, though that's probably not as common, heh. I like reading through a lot, it gives stuff more depth IMO. That's one of the reasons I like First Ward so much.
  2. I had a mapserver that kicked me out, but the client itself didn't crash.
  3. Well, at least it's not just me.

Of a lot of the grander, more wide-reaching events, yes, that seems to be the case. But I think a lot of the follow-up to First Ward and previous Praetorian content deserves another zone or so to wrap it all up. The single-player content is much richer than the Trials.

Thank you!

Keep this feedback coming, I am particularly interested to hear where you guys think the story should be going from here.

Needed or no, I do thank everyone who worked on it. It really is a wonderful zone, from the environment, to the atmosphere, to the mobs and the story that takes place there. As far as story goes, it's probably the richest zone in the game, with the rest of Praetoria just behind it, and the newer blue/red side content behind that. It's nice to see the emphasis being put on story.

From here, well, I know more trials are coming, which is inevitable. I do hope that some of these stories are picked up in a future zone storyline though, something to wrap things up before the end game. Having it take place outside of the city would probably be necessary, since the geography is limited for expansion.

One thing I'd like in the future is a continuation of Resistance and Loyalist storylines in a future zone, like there was in the three city zones. The focus in First Ward was singular, and that helped with the focus, but it would be nice to be able to continue from the paths of previous storylines.

Barring that, I'd just be happy to get another zone period, that continues the storyline. I can see it happening out of the city, perhaps in some of military type zone/compound that's kept out of the city by Cole and the other Loyalists, with Resistance presence there in secluded areas.

Or perhaps something that starts to involve the Devouring Earth as an enemy group, since so far, the only thing present in Praetoria is the Seed of Hamidon and not the enemy group. If the next zone is outside of the city, then it's plausible that DE would be there. Perhaps a military compound itself would be protected from them, but the surrounding areas wouldn't.

Having the compound set in the wilderness could also be a cool opportunity to tie it together with some of the later Praetorian content, particularly Maria Jenkins arc. It would be fun if you could come across the scanners in the wilderness at points, and maybe have some kind of event centered around them, depending on your alignment (study, steal, protect, etc).

And yes, knowing what happens to Katie and Noble and all the rest is a must (particularly those two.)

Kudos on the zone and looking forward to future content set in Praetoria!
  6. I hope not. The story has less impact when it's told via trial, IMO.

Yeah, they're all available in flashback, labeled by which part of the overall arc it is. The only thing that's not available is the brief introductory contact/mission by Jester (I think.)

All of the missions should exemp you to level 29 if you're running it in flashback mode.

I second this. I found the idea of leaving her like that deeply unsatisfying. That said, I love the new content. And I suppose the fact I feel as strongly as I do about Katie speaks for itself. Even if she did keep calling me "killer".

    Good job, Devs!
I third it. Out of everything in First Ward, this bothered me the most!

    I21 Mids

It's kind of nice flying blind actually. I don't have to worry about number crunching so much yet.
  10. I really loved all the content in this zone. As dark as it was at the end, and as depressed as it made me doing certain actions, the story tied together fairly well - although I do wish more had been done with the compound later on, as it felt like you helped it out and then never really returned or followed up on it.

I DO wish that the zone was 30-39 though. For one, I think it was intended to be done after leaving Praetoria. I stayed and ran all the arcs before leaving through the rift enclosure, and the people who showed up at the end didn't reflect anything that happened in First Ward (I ran as a Resistance Warden).
  11. Hah! I've chosen that response every time I run it.
  12. Largely because of this thread, I made a war mace/energy aura brute and have been taking it through Praetoria and now the First Ward content. To my great surprise, it's been a blast to play. It's one of the easiest runs through Praetoria I've had.
  13. I'd like some more closure as well, particularly for a certain character that I've become attached too. Leaving the fate of that character uncertain, without any other choice, leaves me wanting more.

I hope it's not resolved in a trial. As fun as the trials can be, and as interesting as their stories are, some of these plot threads I would prefer to be resolved in a setting similar to First Ward - that is, a zone rather than a trial.
  14. Managed to get a few screenshots as well. Took a movie accidentally as well, since I triggered Fraps recording without realizing it...whoops!

  15. I'll be staying on Pinnacle for the most part. I will most likely move at least one toon to participate in the events that are going on, but chances are I'll likely move them back to Pinnacle soon after.

This story NEEDS to reach its conclusion and not just end with a bunch of dangling plot threads like so much of the vanilla game.
I hope it's all resolved too. I want to know how some of the situations in Praetoria at 20 end up the way they do by the time you're doing Incarnate Trials. And First Ward in particular leaves a lot of dangling plot threads that I hope are resolved by the time the Praetorian focus is done with.

In a perfect world, I'd like content that goes from 1-50 for Praetoria. At the very least, I hope we get one more zone that bridges the gap between everything.
  17. I'll miss it. It's where I started off most of my hero side toons back in the day.

2: Vigilante content in the Rogue Isles + Paragon City outside of tip/morality missions (Taking down crooks who the Zig is too good for, going to the Rogue Isles to hunt down someone who's crossed the line, fending off people wanting to bring you in for your brand of justice.)

3: An expansion to the selection of tip and morality missions across the level ranges they occur in. (We had some vigilante and rogue tips added, and 1 new 40-50 Morality mission to each side, but that's it.)

4: Praetorian content on Primal Earth (Primal-fled Resistance trying to take action on an ex-Loyalist, possibly suspecting espionage, Loyalists tracking down Crusader Resistance members for heinous crimes they committed, persecution from Primal residents, a Praetorian-on-Primal subculture, or even Primals wanting to go to Praetoria, thinking it a 'better way'.)

5: Incorporating morality choices and points into story arcs (the arc where you get a warrant put out against you by Crey would make a great point to go Vigilante, or maybe the heat of Arachnos convinces a villain that Paragon might be a safer place to operate.)

6: A chance for heroism in the isles/villainy in the city. More chances to do evil on your own terms, or go to the isles to try and do some good. Especially lacking on the latter.
I think I'd love to see everything on this list incorporated! Even more than I want to see more Incarnate powers. Fleshing out the game that already exists would be awesome. I understand why the devs/NCSoft prefer to focus on creating newer content vs adding in/fleshing out content, but still.

But Praetoria takes that classic comicbook set-up and twists it right round into something very dark and creepy - it has the classic superhero city setting to patrol and protect, but right from the tutorial, players are shown that there's something very, very wrong with the authorities that a comicbook hero would normally assist without a second thought - players who arrest people in Paragon City know that they're criminals they're arersting, and that they'll be put on trial, and sent to prison if they're found guilty - but players in Praetoria find out that the people that they arrest will be brainwashed, tortured or executed - and that unlike Paragon City and other normal comicbook settings, the people they're arresting mightn't even be guilty of any real crimes.

You can fight for truth, justice and the American way in Paragon City, but not in Praetoria - and that's one of the main reasons that Praetoria has a problem with attracting players to level up in it.
I can understand that, actually. It's not even evil like City of Villains is, either, which is also attractive for a lot of people. It's more sinister, in a way. I mean, in the Isles, you're brainwashing, torturing, and executing all the time, depending on your interpretation of how you do missions and what happens as a result, but there, it's against the law, or rather, in a generally lawless place. So it has more of a classic feel to it, whereas in Praetoria, it's the people in positions of authority that are doing the mostly evil actions, and in a way that's just cruel as opposed to wanting to get power/money. On the other hand, the Crusaders do outright evil actions as well, and they're not in a position of authority. It's like evil fighting evil.

I have trouble playing the Crusader storyline. There's a lot of twisted material there. I did it once to see what it was like, but I doubt I'll do it again. I have trouble playing stuff that's really evil. I like playing villains, because you can interpret it however you like, but it's hard to have an alternative interpretation of the things that the Crusaders do. I can't even play evil storylines in a lot of the popular RPGs that are out, because it makes me feel guilty.

Anyway, I can understand why the tone of it turns a lot of people away. And while I don't like playing Crusader at all, everything else is just fascinating to me. But I guess it's not too surprising. As time goes on, I relate less with most of the comic books coming out, whereas I used to be really into them and all of the classic tropes. Now I'm more intrigued by things that take the classic formulas and situations and twist them around, and for me, Praetoria fits that perfectly.
  20. Praetoria remains one of my favorite things about this game. Even if the mobs are more difficult to fight (sometimes annoyingly so...if you're a squishier toon, the mobs can be really annoying), I love the story there enough that I'm willing to put up with it.

The storyline there just wasn't something I expected from City of Heroes, and it was a refreshing change of pace. I liked the fact that there were hero/villain aspects to both loyalists and resistance, I loved the design of the world, the whole dystopian feel, the backstory for the mobs, the balance of power, etc. It's just so interesting to me. I admit, I'm a bit biased, because I LOVE alternate universe types of stories.

But there are a few things I don't like, which a lot of others have mentioned. The fact that it's only 1-20 content (well, 1-29 now I suppose, though First Ward doesn't have the same feel as the 1-20 content.) I really, REALLY wish that you could go from 1-50 in Praetoria. I wish the story had gone all of the way, or at least, picked back up again at some point so you could return there by the end of the game.

As others have mentioned, the fact that the story pretty much drops off once you get to Primal Earth is very disappointing. The new story arcs in the 20-29 range help a little bit in that regard, but even then, it's minimal, and most characters treat you like a hero that's always been there and people in Praetoria forget about you. It's like the story doesn't really matter past that point, save for the trials, which are already set in stone and pro-Resistance.

I wish that you could form SG's in Praetoria, and that you could go to Primal without having to become a hero or a villain. They could have just flagged Praetorians like they flag rogues and vigilantes, and make it so you can't start any content, but you can join teams or run newspaper missions or something.

I really hope they continue adding new content to Praetoria. But on the other hand, if it's all going to be like First Ward, I'm not sure how much I'll like it. As much as I like the feel and story of First Ward, the fact that it's pretty much the same, without any moral choice or side-switching, makes it feel less interesting than the 1-20 content that came before it. But I can understand why they did it that way - they wanted it to be accessible to people who left, as well as people who are still there, because of the fact that you are otherwise required to leave at 20.

That being said, I still love it. Even with Freedom, I only plan on making one toon that starts in Atlas. The rest, I'll continue to make in Praetoria. I love the story enough that it's my preferred starting area.
