One of the problems cited by many players coming from other MMO's in relation to City of Heroes is that the default Tabbing system is a bit obtuse. A player hits tab and they are now pointing at some other enemy that's halfway across a room, or down the street, rather than the next enemy that might have made "sense" to target.

Using the Macro and Slash command system it is possible to come up with several targeting tricks, but this system is largely archaic or obtuse, take your pick. So if you are looking for the right macro on how to pick Mary Macromber out of a horde of Cabal, look to another guide: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Macro_%28Slash_Command%29
If you are a new player, a few options are exposed in the in-game options that will make your tab-targeting life a little easier. So, simply go to Options:

Then go to Keymapping:

Down near the bottom is a section for targeting:

Here you can set direct keybinds for tab targeting, or change from tab to another button completely. What you might not know is that City of Heroes defaults to using Control + Tab to automatically select the closet enemy to your avatar. -
Quote:I can answer this. Can you explain why the Tab targeting system sometimes puts more priority in targeting a foe that's on the far side of a room or even, when outside, so far away that the foe isn't even rendered, rather than the foes in your immediate area?
It doesn't.
Check your keybinding options. The tab button is defaulted to next-target option, but there are other settings such as to automatically target the enemy closest to you. -
Quote:too much to hope that L***** = Linux... be nice to see a native client...
A Tech Lead does not program. Well, sometimes, if he is lucky. But not as much as he would like. And come to think of it, he probably over committed himself this morning when he agreed to fix bug 14386 himself because, frankly, he’s got to find out what is going on with the new L***** requirements and put together a proposal for getting it into the game sometime this year. Lets face it, if the team doesn’t get started yesterday, a 2010 ship date on the L***** is basically as likely as getting out of here before 12:00AM, and yeah, that’s going to happen. Also, what’s up with bug 14382 that K***** is working on? Design has been waiting on that for, like, 12 years now and if K***** isn’t done yet, they’re either going to be late on the M***** task, or have to work all night again. And another all-nighter by the design team is not something the tech lead wants on his head. So it’s follow up on 14382, L*****, 14386 and then (please, please) sleep. But a Tech Lead does not sleep.
anyways, for some real questions that probably CAN be answered, besides wanting to know if you need another person in tech support:
Crossfire / SLI support: is there any kind of update on how close native support is for the game? I don't mean "well if you use this third party application and modify hex values you can enable AFR" : I mean : enable by default and it just works.
Eyefinity / Matrox Triple-Head / Nvidia Surround: Okay. Pet thing I would like to see implemented is proper support for wide-screen resolutions outside of 16:9 / 16:10. From earlier in this year I know it's not going to happen by Going Rogue, or likely in the issue after, but with Nvidia's recent extension of Triple-Screen support across SLI'd GTX 200 cards does this boost the potential install base / usage base of this type of tech.
Now with the stuff I want to know out of the way...
What was your biggest programming error you ever made?
What was the biggest prank you ever played on a user? And no, the ether-killer doesn't count.
Is it true that Dr. Aeon keeps rigging your computer's power supply to turn off... and was responsible for the noodle incident?
Is it also true that Dr. Aeon's source code includes the terms Blowhard, ID=TenT, and... wait... why are all my characters in pink tutus? -
better, but not way better: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/..._card_review/2
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/...d_5830_review/
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/...tx_460_review/
The GTX 460 is about the same performance as a 5830. The 5850 is pretty much capable of destroying 285's (and 295's for that matter). The 5830's drop from the 5850's rendering power puts it closer to where the best 285's scored.
There's also still the matter of DirectX 11 / OpenGL 4.0 support, which the GTX 200 series can't do. The GTX 460 will do those levels of rendering. -
Quote:Given that Microsoft had already firmly stated, beyond a shadow of a doubt, with no misgivings, and no chance of any change, that Windows Xp was going to be terminated with no other recourse in October 2010...According to the article: This extended availability also does not appear to impact the support schedule for the old operating system; Windows XP support is due to expire in April 2014. So not only will the operating system be unlikely to work, it will be insecure, too.
and now that they've reprieved it YET AGAIN, I'm seriously going to take any date they give for future endings of support / termination with a barrel of salt. I'm going to have so much salt on hand, Slugs will be talking about the plotted "Great Slug Massacre" for years.
Okay, I'll concede that maybe, just maybe, Microsoft is actually going to stick to their word, and they really will stop supporting NT5 in 2014. I just... I wouldn't count on it.
what, keeping ALL programs up to date, or just keeping FireFox up to date?Quote:And upgrade Firefox past 2.0.
(yes, the last IT department I dealt with didn't understand why that'd be a problem...) -
Quote:Well, that's just it. Support isn't ending. It's been extended... yet again... for the life of Windows 7.So... we'll be able to buy XP, after support for XP has ended?
heh. Just don't use IE and that solves 95% of the malware right there.Quote:For the love of god, please don't connect those machines to the Internet! -

Quote:Yet reprieve for Windows Xp.OEMs themselves will have to stop preinstalling downgraded copies of Windows XP on October 22, 2010. However, end-users will now be able to downgrade PCs with OEM installations of Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate to the corresponding version of Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional, and will be allowed to do so for the duration of Windows 7's lifecycle.
Microsoft says that this change is in response to business demands; it would be confusing if some Windows 7-licensed PCs included downgrade rights but others did not. The change in policy means that the licensing conditions will be uniform, and the same conditions will apply regardless of when the machines were purchased.
There's really not much more to say on this topic. Windows Xp is not going away. It will continue to be a target for any developer.
OpenGL is still the only way to target all versions of Windows.
DirectX is still a multi-billion dollar mistake. Period. Stop. -

Quote:oh that's not good for long term subscription...I made a trial account for this game, and I like it, so I decided to buy the game. None of my local stores carry it anymore it seems. I don't really have a problem with that though, because I thought I could just buy it online. However, when I try to buy the game from the NCsoft store I get the following message:
"We are not currently accepting charges for your game account from the credit card number you entered. Please contact support@ncsoft.com if you feel that this is in error."
I've e-mailed support about it, just waiting for a response. I'm curious though, has anyone else ever had a problem like this? I'm worried now that even if I find it at a local store, I won't be able to start a subscription. I hate dealing with game time cards.
if you somehow got on a banned credit card list, you might be better off buying from a retail store or amazon.com -
Going out on a limb here. One of the problems we had at Cox Communications is that it was possible to list a modem of one model with a MAC-address from a modem of a different model.
This might not sound like a bad thing until you consider that most DOCSIS systems, such as those used by Cox or Comcast, often receive their firmware updates and modem information from the ISP. So, if you had a Motoral Surfboard 5100, but we told the system you had a Surfboard 4100, or vice versa, you could actually get a corrupted modem firmware that would generate disconnections, lag, and other issues.
It's possible then since Comcast basically flipped a switch and it worked, they had screwed something up on their side of the connection. To confirm what Kitsune says though, it's basically policy for the company to never admit THEY did anything wrong. -
Quote:let me guess.OMFG, You guys are good luck or something
IT all works now, I got a call from Comcast, apparently my ISP was some wierd technical crap terms, but basically was gummed up in their network, they finally fixed it.

Quote:Okay, fair point: let me clarify.Really? Because when I watched their E3 footage they talked all about that stuff. No I wont find the link, But I know I heard everything they said about it in all those little interviews, plus my friend was there and they were very interested in DCUO... unfortunately their open pvp system sounds like fail to me so I am not interested in it at this current time.
There's a difference between speaking something in a movie, and actually, well, showing it. Cityofheroes.com stands as a good example of this. When you go to check on information about the game... well.. look.

The Planetside site is the same way. You go there: http://planetside.station.sony.com/players/
And you find... http://planetside.station.sony.com/howto/
When you go to someplace like Champions Online... well. The site is actually bare on information about the game. So is DCUO. In all fairness, DCUO is bare because they haven't actually launched the game. Still, the information on the actual content... the costumes, zones, and everything else, is pretty limited.
SOE's advantage is that SOE isn't afraid to throw developers at products to ensure lots of Launch Content. SOE's disadvantage is that outside of the Everquest franchise, their follow-up efforts tend to be anemic. I seriously doubt DCUO can launch with more zones / costumes / etc. etc. etc. than CoH. I also seriously doubt SOE will back the game in the long run. That's just SOE's reputation. Hopefully DCUO will be the game to break their reputation. -
Quote:Yeah... I think it's highly unlikely that DCUO will have anywhere near the amount of content or powers that CoH has. They must have a huge dev team working 24/7 over there to be able to turn out that much stuff in such a short a time.
What's interesting about Championess's statement is that DCUO actually hasn't said anything about the costumes, powers, or missions of the game: http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/overview.vm
The most info we have comes from the publically released movies: http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/movies.vm
About the only real advantage DCUO will have at launch is that it will also be a console game, with a PS3 client. That's an attractive offer for those not ready to upgrade their computers or invest in a new computer, but still want something with lots of eye candy. -
Quote:so your saying your motherboard does not have a port that looks like an over-sized phone jack?I dunno?
I just have USB line into the computer to the Modem, this how it was set up for me, when I bought my new machine back in Jan, same as before, there no Network card per say, only card hooked to my Motherboard is my Video Card, the USB is that silver box connected to the motherboard.

Quote:dumb question time:Modem is directly into the computer(Via USB Line), Ive had comcast reset it 3 times, No Router. Sunday it was fine, no issues, monday when I logged in the morning, this started & continues.

what happens when you use a REAL network interface and do NOT use USB? -
if you are running a router, have you tried a different router or using a different firmware version?
