hard to argue.
I sort of agree because some melee attacks cause an avatar to hop into air, then bring both fists down. You'd think that an overhead blow wrought by a ton of rock would be more damaging than an overhead blow wrought by a 250lb linebacker. -

The cards you picked all use varients of the CMI87xx chips, even the Asus DX1.
I've got both the Asus and the Turtle beach and as far as sound quality goes, there's no difference if you are using the Optical Outputs.
The Analog audios are a different point. I think Asus does a better job of setting up the DAC (Digital Audio Convertors), so on headphones and straight jacked in speakers, I think the Asus sounds better. -

Quote:The ability to split the OS and User data has been part of most Unix and Unix like systems, such as OSX and Linux for years. It's very easy with a modern Linux distribution to put your /home entry on a completely different hard-drive separate from your /root entry. Some Linux's, such as Mepis, put the /home entry on a separately formatted partition by default, so if you run out of room, it's Easy to go in and modify /etc/fstab at a later date to point to a new hard-drive.I'm planning to pick up two HDs (not sure which size to get yet) but I'm not sure how to best utilize them. I plan to run windows on one and everything else on the other. Is that a good plan or should I be putting my games on the OS HD too ?
Once you leave the *nix realm though, things change. Microsoft still puts all of their information on one single partition by default, and while you can place user data on a separate hard-drive or partition, you do have to take an active role in doing so. Every time you install a program or application, you'll have to make sure you do the Custom install and assign your installation to the second drive or partition.
Some vendors, such as Acer, tend to ship Windows notebooks with both an OS partition and a Data partition, and in my experience, this often confuses most users since the hard-drive or partition split isn't hidden, and isn't automatic at the OS level.
There's also the additional complex problem that the DRM (Digital Rights reMoval) that ships with many current Windows Games don't play well with non-default installations. If you use a digital download system like Steam or Direct2Drive, you can also run into issues if you aren't using the stock drive lettering and partition path.
So... good idea... but... it's really not worth the trouble if you are intending to run a Microsoft Operating System. -

I used to like putting my hero in a yoga position before quitting the game. I can't find these commands any longer. They were with the list of commands like "Boombox" and "Dance".
The OSX client is just the Windows client running atop Transgaming's Cedega / Cider. So there's nothing special about the OSX version.Quote:2. Are there limitations in the Trial version of the Mac client that do not allow me to enter teams? I was invited to a team with a L50 hero, but could not accept the invite. I selected "I'm open to all requests" and tried clicking on the L50 herm and selecting "Invite to team", but nothing happened.
There are, however, special limitations: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Trial_Account
This is why you couldn't invite the level 50.Quote:# rial Accounts cannot email other players

* Trial Accounts may join teams, but not invite other players

# Trial Accounts may not create Mission Architect arcs. They can not interface with the Architect Entertainment Stations. However, they can be invited onto a team that is running MA missions.
There are limitations on most Macro's to begin with. The developers are against allowing too much automation since it encourages bot-play rather than players actually sitting at the keyboard playing the game.Quote:3. Are there limitations in the Trial or Mac clients to create Macros? I have a Tanker char and would love to create a three-punch macro for him. If no limitation exists, is there a easy guide to creating a macro on a Mac?

Quote:A: the mouse problem most people were reporting was a mouse bug with an Intel GPU, not an Nvidia GPUI've tried another mouse (Logitech)
It happens with that also. I'll log in and submit an ingame bug report now. I've already submitted a support ticket on this.
Again some of the mouse posts are months old. I'm surprised that I would be having issues. Possibly there are not enough mac players yet that the game remains buggy on mac.
B: ergo, the mouse problem you are reporting is different from the mouse problem the Intel GPU users were having. -
-
2 questions:
A: does this happen when you use any additional USB mice? or just the one that came with the Wacom.
B: have you filed a /bug in the game. -
you're right. He did post again. Heismann's and Skatter's writing styles are extremely similar, way too similar. While I could be wrong, I'm fairly certain that sock-puppeting is against Terms of Service.
also: earlier in the thread something was said about the Mac Client. Well, remember, the Mac Client runs the Windows Client atop Transgaming's Cedega / Cider technology. Cedega / Cider isn't 100% perfect at emulating a Windows OS environment, nor translating all API calls at 100% accuracy, and short of Microsoft opening up the WinNT 5, 6, and 7 Kernels under an Apache or GPL style license, it likely never will be 100% for all applications all the time. The good news, at least for CoH players, is that NCSoft seems willing to support a PC environment, rather than a Windows environment alone. -
Quote:um... okay.I am using 195.62, and I have already uninstalled and driver clean and installed again but didn't help. Also tried dual booting into xp (an old install that i couldn't bare to get rid of so i dual booted windows 7) and it basically does the same thing only completely freezes the computer. I am probably going to buy a new video card tomorrow and hope it fixes it. (I work from home so i NEED my computer asap). I was thinking of buying a radeon 5870 because I like having big expensive things

If you are getting it across both OS's then we can rule out a software problem (mostly)...
have you run something like MemTest86 yet?
***
basic troubleshooting from this point. We can probably say it's hardware, but what hardware...
If you have another graphics card on hand, I'd test with that first before spending megabucks on a new card.
MemTest86 can check your system memory and your processor's internal cache. If you get errors, try downclocking your speed (if you are running an overclock). If you aren't running an overclock and you get errors, you'll be looking at new memory, a new processor, or maybe even a new motherboard.
I'd also check out a different power supply if you have one available to test with that can handle the load from an 8800 -

what driver set are you using from Nvidia?
You might need to drop back to a 180 driver or try one of the beta releases. -

Oh. yes. I've had a couple of failures.
Latest one was a stalker named Assassin's Cuddle. Spine's Ninjistu cat-girl type with the tagline of She just wants to huggle you!!
Those with their minds in the gutter can already see a very rude contraction of the name, that made her almost impossible to play on any teams... first time I've ever petitioned one of my own names... -
This is pretty much how I feel about it. Most of the players I interact with are perfectly capable of separating their global account from their player account, and understand that Veteran Badges are awarded to the player at the Keyboard, not the avatar on the screen.

Quote:as an FYI, Store Computers don't ship with the latest of anything. In some cases, vendors like Asus ship products with crippled drivers, case in point being the default graphics driver for the Asus F3Ka notebook having it's OpenGL support stripped out. For reference, the F3Ka shipped with a RadeonHD 2600 mobile GPU, and City of Heroes using OpenGL as the rendering engine.thanks for your advice
the problem was that i needed to update the graphic card driver-if that makes sense
downloaded the latest from nvidia and now is working fine
lol, i really just stumbled on the solution
just bought the computer so i figured it had the latest of everything, now i know it doesn't
Something else you have to be aware of is that Windows Update is just that, Windows Update. If you've got any non-Microsoft programs loaded, or any non-Microsoft hardware loaded, chances are you'll need to make an effort to keep your computer up-to-date. Most common Windows Software now includes update notifications or auto-update systems, like Mozilla FireFox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Opera, Google Chrome, CCleaner, Spybot Search and Destroy, QCD, and so on. -
Quote:Very few cable companies are interested in expanding like that. Pointing my finger at Cox Communications, SuddenLink, and Comcast, they've been more interested in taking over established cable providers and using old systems. Cox Communications has a nasty habit of pulling out of markets when strong competitors start to move in, hence the sell-off to SuddenLink a few years back.Yeah, it makes me sad to know that some areas still only have dial up available. Seems like something the cable companies would want to invest in. New customers, new very very very happy customers.
Some of the larger cable companies are in a bit of hot water now with their upload / download speeds and throttling practices since they haven't invested any money into expanding network capacity or network quality. Again, I'm looking in Comcast's direction. AT&T and Level3 which manage several backbone connections are also pretty much guilty of spending money everywhere but network capacity and network development, such as AT&T paying for a rather high-priced PDA type Phone to stay on one of the US's worst wireless networks running.
One of the major problems is that several of the small regional start-ups you might see around a regional area are just cable resellers. They basically lease a larger entities network, like Charter, Comcast, or Cox's at a lower price than those companies will sell to you directly as a consumer. So while you might have a fancy new startup in town, or a cute sounding regional network, you might actually be getting the service and line quality of the big name corporation you were trying to not buy from.
There are exceptions, like Knology, who do build new lines out into rural areas, run their own new physical lines, and maintain separate lines to the Internet BackBone.
The thing to ask if your looking at a regional provider is whether or not they are leasing their infrastructure or of they are building their infrastructure brand new. If the regional provider won't tell you straight out that they have laid their own lines and maintain their own backbone links, you might as well go with the faceless corporation rather than what is effectively a sub-contractor. -
Quote:you can want something all day long, but until you can provide a good reason why the developers should invest time and resources into implementing that something into the engine, that something is never going to happen.Who is to say that DP won't have a crashless nuke either, or an inherently higher accuracy modifier? Its too early to tell, all I want is to have incinderary rounds for my assault rifle.
Quite simply, there's no (perceived) way to add dual pistol ammo changing functionality without doing one of two things:
A: drop an existing power for a damage change modifier.
B: add a ton of complex additional code to the character crewation power selection system for just one attack set.
Now, you could sell the idea based on adding elemental attacks to various weapons. E.G. adding fire, ice, or toxic affects to Archery, Swords, Maces, or Axes. However, this isn't likely to happen. I'm a bit too lazy to dig through the Dev Digest, but I'm pretty sure at least one developer has already torpedoed the idea of adding elemental affects to existing weapon base sets. I recall the reasoning being that there already where elemental attack sets in the game, and if you wanted a particular power set, you needed to take that power set. E.G. If you want a Fire Sword, take Fire Melee, because Katana and Broadsword weren't going to get Fire Animations.
There is, of course, the counter-argument that customization is everything. That players should be allowed to tweak their powers any way they like. Precedent has already been set with the Invention Origin Enhancements to add typed damage or effects to various attacks. Off the top of my head Sting of the Manticore has chance for Toxic Damage, Scirocco's Dervish has chance for... lethal? Posi Blast has chance for Energy. One of the slow sets has chance for smashing I think.
That being said, all of these IO modifications are CHANCES. They are not permanent changes to powers. While I don't believe any developer has strictly shot down the idea of IO's that will always add a damage effect or attack status effect, reading between the lines on the knockback to knockdown conversion threads, the current developers aren't interested in such total conversions. While I could be wrong, I think the developers are more interested in improving the underlying engine of the game, continuing to use the KB / KD example, so that various effects don't share the same status modifier as Knockdown and Knockback do. I think Castle and Phosyb are more interested in long term solutions that serve as a platform for future devleopment.
As I see it the developers are now really trying to draw the lines on what they will, or will not do, with customization. I'm afraid that the wish for backporting of new set powers to old set powers... just isn't in the cards.
