    Heh. It's a Revive power.

You need to be on a team, and one of your teammates needs to die. Then you can rez them with a mini-nuke.
  2. Okay: next question. Is this thing a laptop?

According to CPUZ, the mainboard is designed as a Sorrento... which as best I can tell, is this thing: http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pi/27-2...m-Product-Info

If that is what you have... yes. You are going to need a completely new computer to run City of Heroes.
  3. *when will controllers and dominators get Ribbon Control? I want to gift wrap my enemies in bright pink bows and streamers!

    New computer? not necessarily.

    New graphics card: yes.

CpuZ will tell us more about the actual computer you have: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Under the About tab you can save the information as a text or html file from CPUZ. CpuZ's reported would be useful to determine what hardware is inside the computer and what possible upgrade options are available.

  6. Some costume parts can help you with the roleplay in the current game.

Manticore has already been mentioned. He's a Natural hero, but he taps into the Emergency Rescue Teleport system to travel.

You can also get piston boots, which well, would help you run fast.

You can also get rocket boots... well.. which would help you fly.

Ergo, if you are stuck on being natural... there's ways around it with available costume parts. Sure, you might need to wait a day before your high level can buy the costume part and salvage and email it to yourself... but what's a sub 24 hour wait?
  7. ... not... good.... um... I don't think there's any nice way I can phrase this.

You probably are S.O.L. on this mate unless you can afford to get an Nvidia or ATi graphics card.

The short version is that it's a DX9 classified integrated chip from 2006: http://www.dailytech.com/SiS+Mirage+...rticle4182.htm However, the only OpenGL drivers available for the card supported OpenGL 1.5... not a big deal as that's all some Intel chipsets support and CoH works fine-ish against OpenGL 1.3/1.5.

Okay, so, it's not fast, but I suspect you knew that. The real big deal is that SiS can't right drivers worth a flip. You are getting a crash because the driver is incompatible with the calls being made by the City of Heroes program. Given the age of the card, SiS's driver update schedule, and that you are using Windows 7... there probably is NOT a driver update that will bring appropriate OpenGL support.

    You can look here: http://www.sis.com/download/agreemen...url=/download/

However... I just tried that site in FireFox, Chrome, Konqueror, IE8, and Opera... and in all browsers I have open it just kept looping the license agreement to browse the site... I don't have a system with IE7 or IE6 handy, so it "may" work with those browsers.

    Okay. Go here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...-Z_v0.4.2.html

Download GPUZ and run it. Tell me what graphics card it says you have.

    Actually... there's a little camera button in the upper right corner of GPUZ. It takes a snapshot of the program and allows you to directly upload to a free hosting provider. E.G. I have this picture;

Can you link in what it says about your system?
  9. SiSGIv.dll sounds like a graphics driver for a SiS graphics chip... only SiS hasn't actually done anything in graphics since the Xabre series: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.a...tno=88&pgno=13

Just... how... new... is this computer? What exactly did you purchase?

Posi - The reason isn't that those characters don't, it's more that a complete overhaul invalidates a ton of work we've put into making the game alt-friendly.
This was already addressed in one of your other threads, found here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=218960

Now, in that thread, you started out saying this:

    Quote:
With the live questions answered on Friday I would like to make note that there will be no full respec.
You, at some point, obviously have read with comprehension that the developers said no to full respecs. Not:
    • No, the engine cannot handle it
    • No, it's too much work work
    • No, we're not sure it will work well.

They said: No, it does not fit our goals with the game.

And yet, despite the QA being posted 04-23-2010, 11:32 PM, you started a thread at Old 04-25-2010, 04:16 AM... less than 48 hours later... promptly trying to figure out another way around not getting a Full Re-specification. That thread got shot down in a hurry.

So here we are, this thread, started at 04-25-2010, 10:17 PM... so pretty much the same day... respinning the idea that the devs already said NO to. You even admitted in the opening post that you saw just how opposed to the concept the forum-player base was:

    Quote:
With the option of a full respecification happening, and the sheer apparent hatred of the idea out there,
Here's a hint: Quit trying to spin a design choice that the developer's don't agree with. If you are going to propose any kind of system that is a radical change to the direction of the game and the ideals of the game, you'd better have some really good reasoning behind it.

Now, I'm not saying that the developers minds can't be changed. There have been several changes through the years that have been made after player input. Unfortunately, my search-fu is weak, and despite using both Google and Yahoo, and searching for the terms suggestions; improvements; list; player; made; implement; implemented in any combination, I can't find a list of player made suggestions that were implemented in the game... even though I know a couple people have compiled such lists.

Anyways, the developers can be convinced to roll back changes, or implement ideas that they may not have intended to implement. However, much of these changes have generally been justifiable. They don't go completely counter to what the game is.

Which is where we get back to your suggestion. Okay, fine. Full Re-Specifications and automagically changing powers is pretty much par for the course from the likes of TopCow, Image, Marvel, and DC. However, City of Heroes is none of those. It's is own game, with it's own design goals, and it's own features. The development staff decided to make the game friendly to having multiple avatars with multiple play styles and multiple experiences.

What you want, does not fit what the game is, and what the game is being designed to be. It doesn't matter how you spin it, what restrictions you place on it, or whatever... the developers are not going to implement any system that allow you to automagically become another power set or archtype.

Once you are finished with your new ones, you can then interchange the powers via the same function, but with more freedom. Assuming you can only unlock one power at a time, not a set like I first stated in the OP here is an example.

Example: So if you have a tech stalker who is a Nin/Elc. You get those powers all the way to level 50. At this point you decide you want your alternate primary to be kinetic melee. You start working with this power back at level 1 and your secondary is still electric. You would be forced to chose your new primary set powers at the same level you chose your original primary set.
Once the Kin/Elc is finished at level 50, with a ton of dead levels 41-50, the stalker can start working on their new secondary power Eng. So they start back at level 1 and face the same restrictions as the new primary power, but would be forced to use only one primary with that power. When they reach level 41 at this point they can start working on their secondary patron power pool.

Once both new primary, secondary, and power pool are finished up to level 50 they may use the system for switching between completed and developed sets, to interchange the powers. So after 30+ minutes (actual time decided by the devs) they could interchange their new and old powers at will giving you more options, and greater character depth.
    ...

what part of It's Not Going To Happen. Period. wasn't so clear the first time?
  14. Okay. Here's the short version. The Chaos Event from 2009 was far better than the chaos event I just left.

As I remember from 2009, it was a constant spawn of Giant Monster, after Giant Monster, after Giant Monster, after Giant Monster, after Giant Monster.

This year... the event seems to based more on following cryptic clues dropped by a Game Moderator, and having to go to multiple different zones. I'm sure the setup made sense in somebody's head... like in PI having players fight Lord Recluse on one side of the Island while Ghost Widow sets up with her fortunata's atop the arena...

In practice, the 2010 event, from what I just played through... sucks. There's a strong zerg factor going on with most of the player base. The server that I was on opened up a second chaos event in Atlas Park, after the event had been moved to PI. However, nobody was really told the event had been moved to PI, so several players sat around AP doing nothing... till the announcement filtered it's way back that yes, GM's and AV's were in fact in PI... and everybody rushed there. A bit later, a red <ADMIN> message went out announcing AP would be started up again in order to fill server demand... as PI had spawned a couple instances.

Almost immediately, a majority of the player base in PI rushed off back to AP... which... well... didn't exactly solve the problem.

So... for a suggestion... Redo the event for the servers that had it tonight. Go back to the 2009 Giant Monster chaos spawn. Forget the cutesy AV manual spawn.

While his model is in the engine, Rularuu the Ravager is not accessible in the current game. Again, pointing to the earlier parts of the thread, the developers were never able to get hit-boxes to work properly on him. He was simply too big.

Have you ever considered that maybe... just maybe... there's a sheer amount of hatred because it's just a bad idea?

I think Sam called what you want... and... I'm going to be blunt here.. It's Not Going To Happen. Period.

It doesn't matter what spin you put on it, or how you try to sell the concept, or what restrictions you put on it. You are not going to be allowed to level one power set, then automagically change it to another power set.

If you desperately want to combo certain powers, approach the power set from the aspect of the Veteran / Patron Powers. E.G., Blaster's won't ever be getting Martial Arts as a secondary. Sorry, it's not happening. However, Blasters "could" sell a Willpower / Martial Arts oriented Patron Power Set. It'd only be 5 powers total, with only 4 selectable, but the developers are much more likely to consider that kind of suggestion, and thus much more likely to implement it.

So that logic went that in order to keep the list more manageable, they denied you better enhancement for, among other things, mezzes and endurance modification until higher levels. Is there logic there? Oh, yeah. Is it logic most players would come up with? I have to wonder.
Actually, I'll say that scrolling through the enhancement lists in RWZ, PI, and Cimerora is a freaking pain in the rear end. I can think of better ways to present the lists to players "now" ... but I imagine that when the game was created there just wasn't the tech or engine work available and the developers exposed the enhancement lists in the best way possible.

One of the other factors to keep in mind is how resolutions have changed over the years the game has been active. When both CoH launched the most common monitor size was 1024*768. Yes, 1600*1200 CRT's existed... and enjoyed what the Radeon 9700 could do... but unless you were spending mega-bucks, your highest resolution was probably 1280*1024.

Given that most players using the popular graphics cards at the time; which for reference were the Geforce 4 TI, Geforce 4 MX, Geforce 3 Ti, Geforce 2, Geforce 2 MX, Radeon 7500, and Radeon 8500; would probably be running the game in 1024*768 or 800*600. In these really low resolutions enhancement scrolling is a bit of a pain. Modern users running 1280*800 or 1440*900 displays often can find the in-game windows just too short sometimes.

So yeah, when the game came out... the enhancement limiting really made sense from a UI perspective.

    ***

As to how I would address it now?

Well.. with the introduction of recipes and salvage, we now have systems that allow us to sort each by tabs, and the Auction House brought a nested drop list.

It'd be "nice" if the enhancement vendors would also use tabs or nested drop lists to expose enhancements to players. This would make life much easier on lower resolution systems, but not be annoying as the resolution goes up.

Part of me goes... no... not without some major underlying changes.

I like this idea since there have been times in which I've gotten to higher levels then figured out a better slotting path. E.G. on my Dark Armor / Energy Melee Tank... I figured out way later in life that I could drop Energy Punch and just take Boxing instead at that level to have a jumpstart on unlocking Tough and Weave without really interfering with my attack chain / play style.

However, as I understand the respec system, what it is doing is it is wiping your slate "clean" of all choices. I imagine there would be some pretty hefty UI and Tech Work to expose all of your existing slotting choices, and allow you to select a single power to drop, followed by being presented with a list of powers that could be taken for the level time at which that power choice was made, and only removing those enhancements from the selected power. I also imagine and equally large amount of work to expose a function allowing you to change "when" you got powers. E.G. dragging and dropping a power you took at 35... that you could have taken at 16 and you just want to swap it with the power you took at 16 without having to replace your enhancements.

Okay, yes, I think this is something that is probably worth the developers time to work on... But since the current system works and can be worked around with screenshot tools and a notepad... I'm not sure I could fault the devs saying... "not for this game".
  22. I thought I saw this dead horse get raised. I'm actually amazed and astounded that less than 72 hours after Positron openly shot down full re-specifications, somebody who apparently read that QA session STILL came onto the forums and requested it.

That ranks right up there with the guy who tried to get full re-specifications through customer service then threatened to tell every major news site and spam the forum with his story of "bad customer service" when he didn't get what he wanted. Seriously, I didn't think anybody was gonna top that or even get close... and now we have this thread.

  24. PvP has never even had enough players to qualify as a community, much less a sub-community.

I think there is a perception problem though if players in the game separate what they do on the basis of what the event is, and I really think there's a problem with the opening point of view that there are sub-communities centralized around aspects of the game. Badges are a result of playing the game. Mission Architect is another way to play the game that gives badges. PvP is another way to play the game that gives badges.

Some players like to run task forces. Some players like to hunt. Some players like to run story missions. Some players like to hang out. Some players like to run repeatable missions. Some players like to farm. Some players like to do radio missions or newspapers with the safe guard / mayhem.

From a pure player traffic standpoint, the majority of the game plays the game, which is running missions and task forces. From what we know of the traffic numbers from a couple years ago, a very small minority of the game enters the PvP zones. If I recall correctly, the example that was used to paint PvP traffic stated that the Old Hollows, the pre-revamp Hollows, averaged more player traffic each day than all of the PvP zones combined on each server.

Now, as far as I'm aware, there's no official or unofficial number given for the player traffic that utilizes the AE system. Rather, the developers seem reluctant to discuss in any sort of detail just what the player traffic numbers signify. We can extrapolate from the player subscriptions as reported by NCSoft's financial department that the changes made to both the AE systems and the PvP systems had a negligible to non-existant impact on continued subscriber numbers. There was no sharp and continued drop off signaling a mass exodus of players.

This tells us that the visible players raising the points of AE and PvP in the forums, here, are a drastically small minority of the game, and so far have no visible impact on the financial basis of the game.

We also have empirical evidence, as documented by several players, that on the larger servers when a new AE exploit is found, Peregine Island has less instances, and when the AE exploits are closed, Peregine Island gains instances. This indicates that the abusing population of the game is flexible in what they do. Ergo, it's difficult to determine exactly what the traffic numbers are for AE.

We do know that the developers only anticipated maybe 10% to 15% of the player base sustaining AE involvement, which was one of the reasons why the sheer number of AE arcs in the first week of the release blew everybody's mind away. We can probably presume the developers numbers were accurate, and based on the number of new missions and missions being rated today, it's likely a higher number of players works with the AE system than projected.

That of course does mean a 10x to 15x lead over the single digit percentages reported to be involved with PvP play.
  25. there's not really any input we can give you.

Network performance is based on several factors you don't have control over.
    • First, the network speed of your ISP
    • Second, the network speed of the backbone your ISP connects to
    • Third, the server load on the City of Heroes servers
If you are trying to pull down the full game from no existing install, it's going to take a while. It's going to take even longer as the servers are loaded from players pulling down Issue 17 preload and pulling down Test Server versions.

If you have an existing Install disc or an existing copy of CoH, you can cut down the time by copying the existing .pigg files from your "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes" folder and have the game patch only the basic files. Outside of that, sorry, there is nothing you can do. Which is why nobody has responded.

Also, bumping a post 9 minutes after you made it is considered rude. Which is probably why you have a red-mark on your reputation.
