<updater speed> slow!

I Have a new laptop, and barely anything on it, firewalls disabled, trying to run this updater and getting a 3.8k KBP/s speed, kind of ridiculous, I've downloaded other files and got it to 1MB Per second at times, I had closed it when it was downloading at 128KBP/s to try and find a way to speed it up, now it is back at the beggining and going very slowww, 134 Hours estimated, Im expecting to play this weekend and I don't have that kind of time, im also running on Windows 7, ANY help would be appreciated.

there's not really any input we can give you.

Network performance is based on several factors you don't have control over.

• First, the network speed of your ISP
• Second, the network speed of the backbone your ISP connects to
• Third, the server load on the City of Heroes servers

If you are trying to pull down the full game from no existing install, it's going to take a while. It's going to take even longer as the servers are loaded from players pulling down Issue 17 preload and pulling down Test Server versions.

If you have an existing Install disc or an existing copy of CoH, you can cut down the time by copying the existing .pigg files from your "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes" folder and have the game patch only the basic files. Outside of that, sorry, there is nothing you can do. Which is why nobody has responded.

Also, bumping a post 9 minutes after you made it is considered rude. Which is probably why you have a red-mark on your reputation.

Do you know how to edit a shortcut's target line?

1. Right Click on the game shortcut on your desktop.
2. Left Click on Properties.
3. The "Target" line in the Properties dialog should be highlighted.
4. Click past the end of that line, likely after the closing quote.
5. Add to the end of that line -port 13094, with a space before the -.

Your "Target" line should be similar to this

"C:\Games\City Of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -port 13094

Click OK in the Properties dialog.

Now try the shortcut. The default download port is normally 6994 which is also a default for bittorrent. There is a possibility that somewhere between you and the download servers traffic on that port is "shaped".

Now this is for the live servers. If you are trying to get on the test server you can pretty much forget about it. It took me nearly 24 hours to patch for the test server during closed beta on a broadband connection plus it takes a day or two before the test server sees a new or reactivated account.

hate to revisit a thread like this, but I'm a returning player, I can't locate and media on disc. D/L the client at 50Kbps with an install time of 15 hours seems pretty sad. I followed the advise of Father Xmas but made no change. I am assuming by the lack of responses that nobody knows of a faster mirror or any solutions?
