I got the same impression as Emberly. I was going to offer to team with you sometime, but as a 27M didn't want to weird you out. Anyway, if you're interested in a team with a guy that knows how to RP and play the game without caring who's on the other side of the monitor, hit me up on my global.

I keep trying to liquidate, 'cause I only have about 150M all told. Every time I go to the market to collect, I think "I'll just take a look" and find some other shiny that's going to pay me 3x what I put into it >.<

Wait... Dauntless Reverie... wow, I remember! I was a part of the Dauntless when I first started playing CoH. I was Tarcin the demon on a leash, and my friend played Mitsurugi the undead cop who held the leash. Fun times
Man were we green at MMO rp'ing. Still had a blast though.

Ahh, reread the post. Sounds like they can get access to basically everything through tech or member species. With their evolutionary leap of "psionics" basically following in the same trend as the meta-splosion on Earth, I don't see that as being a very good draw for them here. I like the original idea, that they have charted this world as one of a number in the potential path of the Karaken Hordes, and sent out a small force to warn and prepare. Has a very "Ultimate Vision" feel to it, minus the nihilism of that series.

I think you've got the right on this one Reinmar. I was definitely thinking of the struggle against the Karaken as more desperate, new-BSG stuff instead of the shiny, hopeful, old-BSG stuff. I do still stand by the idea that they must have a lot of experience in crossing cultural barriers, but the tactics they use to do so can certainly be entirely free of manipulation.
I do like the reason behind their being there, but it worries me. If they do not have access to much in the way of meta-species naturally, then we'll have to seriously limit the available power sets for members of the Supergroup. I'm not down with that. -
Unfortunately, I do not have a toon of that level, and can't make any firm commitment on how quickly I could get a toon to that level (it shouldn't be tough, but life is leaving me not a lot of time for level grinding). I'm getting involved with a heavy RP supergroup that is forming for GR (you've probably seen us bantering on this forum), so I'll focus my efforts there for now. Have fun folks.

The point I'm making is not to name the Supergroup something that makes sense from a Pharian viewpoint, but something that draws and entices from a Human viewpoint. It feems to me, with Parians as a species recently developing psychic potential and their VERY long history of successful first-contact and peaceful cooperation with wide variety of species, that the Pharian diplomatic crew simply must be masters of xenopsychology. They can look at a race, pick apart it's language, and decide the "best" way to go about bringing them into the empire in no time at all. It's manipulative, and deceitful, and it's intended to be. The Karaken's aren't going to wait around for us to make nice the slow way, so we'd best use every trick and tactic we've learned over the history of the Empire to convince humanity to ally with us, by any means neccessary. It's a psychological warfare kind of thing. They aren't our enemy, but they are not yet our ally until we make them so.
Think of it this way: put yourself in the shoes of Billy Northman, office worker in Paragon City near Atlas Park. He seems a group of massive, muscular aliens in uniform armor and weaponry marching with military precision towards City Hall. They are flying a banner, the only information that Billy has on them. The banner reads:
Pharian Enforcers - Billy is terrified. Is it another invasion? The Rikti were bad enough, now we have giant bipedal cats too? He makes a bee-line for his apartment and Xanax.
Pharian Peace Corps - Billy is still scared, but somewhat hopeful. A peaceful alliance with an advanced alien civilization could do Earth worlds of good. While the US Peace Corps goes around the third world nations of the Earth building schools and hospitals, maybe the Pharian Peace Corps goes around the third world nations of the Galaxy building fusion reactors and starports. Curiousity piqued, he heads home to get on the 'net and find out all he can about the Pharians.
It's all about perception. With as many member species as the Pharian Empire encompaces, I simply cannot fathom that they would be a hard, disciplinarian race lacking in diplomatic ability. In my mind, they must be masters of cross-cultural communication and adepts at quelling suspicions of that nature. -
The Supergroup name is more than just how we refer to ourselves internally or even how the Empire at large refers to us. Specifically, it is the name we've registered ourselves under in Paragon City's beauracracy. Given that our primary mission is diplomatic in nature, attempting to recruit the humans into the Empire or at least make allies with them against the Karakens, I think we should name ourselves something that Humanity would find welcoming and nonthreatening. My suggestions along those lines:
Pharian Peace Corps (mirroring the US peace corps, we have some similar goals)
Pharian Alliance (Empire is a dirty word in English, implying involuntary membership)
Unity Commonwealth (stresses the need to stand together with another more socially-acceptable synonym of Empire)
Pharian Peacekeepers (lists our name along with a word that generally is seen as positive)
That's all I got, going to get really redundant if I try to force anything else out of my brain right now. -
If we can get the players, it'd be a great idea Reinmar. Split them with the Military on the starship and the Diplomats groundside. Instant conflict potential
-
I'll be there.
Not that anyone knows me from the old days, but hey, I had fun playing and RP'ing when the game released. I'm claiming honorary old time status -
You should try SkyBunny Express. Very comfy.
Does it have to be morning already? I haven't slept since the critter wars >.< -
I'm interested in seeing how the experiment plays out. I'd certainly like to learn a little more about how farming works in CoH. I love skishing massive spawns on an AoE scrapper. What type of map do you use? I'm finding all the ones I search for are not optimized for ticket drops in the latest revision of the Architect, and end up giving piddly rewards for a LOT of effort.
I can back him up on this one. He had screenshots detailing what sold in the last thread. I think I accidentally nuked that thread by posting personal details when called out, but the influence he's showing there was earned legit. -
Oh, I'm not worried about getting ideas shot down. I was saying the same thing as you: you're the only one that knows what's what in your Empire, so you're going to HAVE to shoot us down and still encourage us to spout off-the-wall craziness.
I like the "starship base" idea. It works with the base teleporters, and can add some interesting tension.
As to general activity, I'll be on every day. Feel free to @friend me so you can nudge me when something significant is going on, or just whisper Galvanic Flash. -
Awesome!
Okay, I understand now. It still seems to me that you'll make more saving up your AMs for a PvP IO. Of course, that's all predicted at current pricing. I think a "wait and see" approach might be best, wait for things to stabilize a bit before cashing in the most real-time consuming resource available. -
Hyperstrike, I totally don't understand what your table is trying to say. My napkin math says that the best money per Alignment Merit is to save up for a PvP IO, especially if they continue to sell for over the cap. Given that:
1 Alignment Merit = 5 Random Recipes and
20 Reward Merits = 1 Random Recipe and
1 Reward Merit = ~250k Influence then
35 Alignment Merits = ~875M Influence
FAR less than the price tag on the PvP IO you could have purchased. Seems to be a question of immediacy versus long term gain, and what the market is going to do to those PvP IOs in the 72 days it takes you to gather up enough Alignment Merits to buy your first one. -
AAAHHH, I see where you're coming from. In that case, it'd be great if we could put a name to their first contact team. I'm envisioning a rookie on the team, streamlined in due to very high aptitude and theoretical abilities but with a minimum of field experience. Still a bit nervous, jumpy, green, and young enough to be annoyingly idealistic to the noncoms. While he doesn't fit the "best diplomatic choice" role, he does serve as a bonding tool, a "we're just like you" poster boy. And he probably gets some resentment from others that have worked longer and harder to 'earn' a place on a team of this profile. Let me know if I'm way off base here, as I'm basing this idea on human military concepts. Until we get a chance to go through more of your storyline than the brief sketch you outlined in the first post, we'll be suggesting ideas you'll have to shoot down
I'll definitely be active. I'll be on the character 2 or 3 times a week at minimum, most likely more than that. It'll be the second or third character on the account, and I have no intention of going beyond 3 characters until I've exhausted the possibilities with one of them.
I'm sure it looks somewhat sketchy to be talking about limited activity and a Level Pact in the same post. I'm honestly more worried about zapping past people who won't play as much as I do than I am about being left behind. I'm not asking you specifically to form a Pact with my Pharian, it's a general request to anyone who might be interested. -
I'm thinking demand for low level items will spike as well. That's banking on a lot of people wanting to try out Praetorian's and keeping the character, and on Paragon getting the surge of new players they are banking on.

1) Awesome.
2) I understand where you're coming from better now. Maybe you can think up an elite squad of some sort that is galaxy-wide? Better yet, maybe I can do that, take some of the creative burden off your shoulders :P
3) I do have something of an answer: first task for any military or diplomatic personnel on Earth is to report through to Praetoria and be inserted into their society to disrupt Tyrant and bring back any tech and intel they can get their hands on. It's a join operation with <insert group here>, who are providing dimensional gateway access, contacts on Praetoria, and holo-technology to seamlessly insert any of the Member species into Praetoria without notice. We could set a rule that everyone wishing to be a member create a nondescript Human costume as their first slot, and provide for them to change to their "true" appearance at 20 when they leave Praetoria and gain access to their second costume slot. I can provide a SG to weave the storyline with, but membership is very light as I just started it up a couple days ago. Which leads to another question later on >.<
4) See 3
5) Sounds perfect. Base uniform as a template, personal touches allowed and almost expected, sounds perfect. Maybe make up a dress uniform for formal events?
New question: What are your expectations for activity and exclusivity? I'm very passionate about getting the Galvanic League rolling, as it's a really cool idea in my mind. Any character I have in your Pharian supergroup would be a somewhat casual alt. I'd do my best to attend any events and scheduled RPs, contribute as much as possible, and would certainly solo a good bit, but my main priority would be elsewhere.
Another new question: would anyone be interested in forming a Level Pact for this Supergroup? I'm super-keen on trying it out, as it's a pretty unique system in all the MMOs I've played.
As to the colors, there's a whole thread right here. Has charts for the Bright and Dark power palettes too. -
I'ma necro this, as this is one of the most helpful posts I've seen on the forum since coming back. Thank Google I was able to search this up! I see the OP hasn't posted in a couple months. I'll PM him. Does anyone know of other projects like this one that are still active?
-
Welp, I'll look you up if you decide to do it again in a couple months. My only character is 14 and I'm not playing like a maniac to get to 45 by next week ^.^
-
So, noob question: What are these, and what's the minimum level?
-
Up to 63M on hand. Made my first big-ticket sale today: a Touch of Death Dam/End/Rech for 25M. Well, big ticket for me anyway, pretty sure it's small beans and beneath the nostice of most people in this forum
. I'm averaging about a 60% profit margin, which is insane. For every Influence I spend, I'm getting 2.5 back. My Influence is tripling every other day. This is despite listing strictly at a 75% mark-up over cost. Whoever bought that Touch of Death payed me 10M more than I was asking for it. Double-blind consignment is such a wonderful thing!
The thing that amazes me most is it almost doesn't matter the initial investment or turn-over rate, I get the same percentage ROI. The only reason I'm even looking at slower, more expensive pieces now is because I just don't enough auction space to employ any significant portion of my capital on the cheap and fast uncommons that have gotten me this far. -
I'd suggest setting some minimum requirements for entry, and then choosing among qualified entrants randomly. Is there a way to poll character play stats? In other games there are commands that will show in the interface when your character was created and how many hours you've played it. Maybe you could set a limit of at least 6 months old with no more than 12 hours per month in-game?
-
If this is at all like the events I've attended before (and something tells me it is), then it'll run for hours.
-
Quote:I've seen it mentioned somewhere (blasted if I remember where) that this is referring to the fact that you get an Alignment mission, and pick the choice for your current alignment. Otherwise, Praetorian's would never be able to earn Alignment Merits, because they don't start as Heroes or Villains.
This is the reward for remaining (or becoming) a true Hero or Villain.
