Quote:I know there have been many threads dealing with Alchemical Silver, but I swear that in the 26-40 range that is needed for what seems like darned near *everything*, and whenever I break down and roll for commons I wind up with 1 AS for every 8 Ancient Bones or Demonic Blood Samples.This. Common salvage like Silver costs 8 AE tickets to gamble. If I need a specific item to craft, I can afford to delete unwanted white salvage to make room to roll more tries and get the desired salvage.
Well, now that I am able to sell Hydraulic Pistons for a million a pop, maybe I won't delete them. Geez.

Quote:Seemed to be the case when I ran it too with my Ill/TA. I suppose if I laid out Oil Slick and Spectral Terror, popped some insps before talking to the Longbow I *might* have been ok for a bit; Phantasm probably not so much. If Phantasm is down and PA runs out, there's gonna be problems.Actually, they did. That's why it was bugged.
I did that mission multiple times and repeatedly the ambushes would all spawn DIRECTLY ON TOP OF MY LOCATION (not down the hall or around a corner) in multiple waves, one after the other.
I use "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next enemy alive quantum" on my tab key when I'm playing my Warshade that would probably work for Sappers too.
edit: I think the first time I ran this I was either at x3 or x4. At some point I figured it wasn't worth running tips that high so I downed it to x2, primarily because some tip missions were trickier than standard content. Even so, I tired of the ambushes and eventually just auto-dismissed this tip. -
Quote:I started out with this approach last night on my Ill/TA before I got sloppy/careless. A couple of confuses took out the front of the room, then I confused Holtz. I think she took out the back left portal and also a decent chunk of Honoree. I figured ah, what the heck - I'll send in PA and try to down the Honoree with Holtz's help.Confuse Holtz and let her do the work. Then once she's cleared the area, just whittle her down.
Well, I hadn't waited long enough to clear all of the ambushes. With those coming at me from behind I lost my focus on Holtz and Honoree. Also I managed to rouse the Rikti around the remaining portal. Sloppy, sloppy.
So I came back from the hospital, took care of some ambush remnants on the way back, and went to confuse Holtz again. I do, and she blasts Honoree...which apparently made him aware of MY presence. That surprised me, to be honest. He pops what looks to be an AoE sleep (which has a pretty nice range, I must say), and comes over to beat my behind before I can do much of anything. Yikes.
Third time I decide to just confuse the last portal, retreat, then confuse Holtz again but pop a couple of purples first. No issues. -
Quote:I just hope that the difficulty doesn't reach a point that no matter what I try, I just won't be able to succeed. In fact, I'm hoping that this entire arc represents the *floor* of complexity and difficulty of the rest of the end game content to come. People who think it was "poorly designed" I don't think understand the design target itself. It was designed explicitly to be what it is. In that sense, it is fairly well designed. If that intent itself is something not palatable, that is a completely different issue. One that will be inteerestingly difficult to resolve, because its pretty clear to me that its hitting the mark in terms of its target audience, which is players that actually want this kind of advanced content.
It could be much better of course. But by "better" I mean even more tricky and tactically complex to figure out. Not more streamlined and simplified for rapid soloing.
I played a fair amount of Nintendo growing up, and one of the games I enjoyed was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. The more I played the more I improved, and eventually I could fairly consistently get to Tyson. I was never able to beat him. I knew the strategy - his tics, his patterns - but I could never quite physically beat him. I'd come close - really close - but inevitably a twitch would be just a hair too late and down I'd go (similarly, I was never able to finish world 8-4 of Super Mario Bros).
I would hate to get to a point where I just wasn't a good enough or clever enough player to be able to progress. Those guys and gals over there? They're better than you. They're smarter than you. And there's nothing you can do about it. I hate that feeling. -
I soloed the arc last night then ran through five pretty quick tip missions at a wimpy +0/x1 setting just to regain the feel for my BS/Regen (and I wanted to tally the tips before bed, which still turned out to be 1:30AM). I only noticed one shard drop, but when I checked I actually had four total. So I need what, eight more? Doesn't seem like it should take that long unless I was particularly lucky.

Quote:100+? I'm not sure I had *that* many in my mission. It was a lot, but the front portals weren't that hard to isolate.Hard to target through 100+ Rikti all with names over their heads.
Hard to get near through said Rikti
Hard to actually hit when all AoEs are insta-target capped.
Hard to deal with all that AND Angry EB.
Next.
Ran it on my first 50 - a BS/Regen that is built maybe 90% IO free (and was built under the old rules for MoG, and did really silly stuff like six-slotting Integration with heals. A strong character, but by no means optimal in today's game. I-19 gives me a good reason to play him and craft a new build.)
Targeted the Portals with (newly selected) Blackwand. *Missed* of course. Figured at that point it was essentially a suicide mission - drop a portal before I get dropped. I managed that. Came prepared with some purples for the second front portal which allowed me to clear all the front Rikti. In the process I alerted Holtz, then Honoree. Got Holtz down, Honoree got through my defenses (well, purples and Parry) and beat me down real quick (taking burst damage...still not a Regen's strength). Came back once more, with more purples, and managed to get him.
I thought about how to do this with other toons. Ill/TA? Oh, confuse + coercive persuasion will be handy. Fire/Fire blaster? Nice time to have taken my snipe. WM/Shield brute? Purples and dive in baby! My Emp/Psi? Yeah...she's going to have to ask very nicely for a team or drop the mission. -
Good work, Organica!
And folks claim it's hard to make inf.
Sure, that's a lot of play over a month's time. But spread that out over the lifespan of a character playing "normally" to get to 50 and the results aren't all that different. -
Quote:I know, right? I mean, take the ITF. I just want to defeat Romulus and save Cimerora. But you have to complete THREE OTHER MISSIONS before you can do that! I mean, what's up with THAT?Yah, having to do content to unlock content REALLY BLOWS man, I feel your pain!
(That said, ah, I guess I wouldn't complain *greatly* if one of my characters could whisper the Midnighters' secret password to another one on occasion. I mean, who really cares about saving the Lost anyway?) -

now that I have the right AE thread...
I say label all toons leveled significantly in this way with a nice, unchangeable vanity title in red letters that says "I'm an AE Monkey." Don't ban them, don't even delevel them - just put a nice stamp on them.
Really though, these calls for basically free xp just because you pay money for the game...well, free purples and pvp IOs for all too! (basically different shades of the same argument, right?) -
Eh, my set IO drops - orange or yellow - usually seem like they are horrid. Tons of temp powers, tons of standard IO, few others. Ok, I do seem to get a lot of Calibrated Accuracy.
These days it seems like I get more Pool Bs and Pool Cs from rolling Hero Merits. I'm sure that's largely perception from me discounting Ghost Widows, Glimpse of the Abyss, etc (actually, many of those drops were probably Pool Bs too). But dealing in Pool Cs seems so much more reliable these days. -
Off-topic, but it's bugging me.
"Would have." NOT "would of."
Thanks. -
Malta Action Figure is an auto-dismiss from me these days. It's not worth having to change the difficulty setting just to deal with one insane mission.
-
Bah. My main account only has three e-mails on it now and I am sure it had quite a few more on it. Problem is, I can't remember what all I sent!
(Pretty sure one was a crafted Dark Watcher proc - which isn't worth bothering about. Probably the least valuable but most memorable thing.) -
Must remember to buy Mac Pack (x2)!

Quote:Yeah, this is more a matter of organization for me. I have what is now essentially a one-man base (I've even upgraded the plot!), but only have one enhancement table and that is nearly full. Some good stuff, but a lot of it is junk - standard IO an ex-SG mate made long ago, stuff I crafted years ago before I knew any better (Enfeebled Operations!), etc. I could stand to build a couple more and sort what I make.I suggest making your own base and buying enhancement tables. 1 table holds 100 IOs.
1 table is enough for marketing while the other tables contain stuff to IO my toons with once they hit 50. The highest amount of IOs in the market table was around 60. On average, there's about 20 IOs ready to be sold. I craft around 10-20 a day.
I am also finally getting into the practice of buying *stacks* of salvage. My latest 50 and my leveling toon both have near 1B, might as well actually use it. But yeah, I need to improve infrastructure to accommodate ramped-up production (which is actually why I needed a bigger plot to begin with - needed room for more salvage racks). -
I've rolled maybe around ten hero merits on a toon I have who is level 38. He has somewhere around 770M I think, crafting and selling most of what I roll (excepting things like Ghost Widow, etc). I'm finding that I'm getting a bit clogged inventory-wise. I made a point of rolling as much as I could at 32, 35, and then 37. Probably a little too much, as I wanted to keep recipe slots open so I would store recipes in the auction house, which cut down on slots to buy/sell. When crafted enhancements that I post don't sell, that clogs things up further.
Salvage is also a bit of an issue, but that's more my bullheadedness. I refuse to pay 100k regularly for Alchemical Silvers (and a lot of recipes seem to take Alchemical Silvers), hate to spend AE tickets on Uncommons (Alchemical Gold!), etc. I'd rather use drops I get playing, but in the high 30s you're starting to see less and less of the salvage you need for recipes in your level range.
Anyway, I love the idea of documenting the rolls and market results and will be following along. I think you'll make out quite well. -
Last I bought LoTGs at 25 I got them in the 110M-120M range I think (wasn't much difference crafted or not). That was a couple weeks ago though. Worked nicely rolling them on my 50 and using the market to essentially swap down (been lucky - had a couple toons roll where 2 of the 5 recipes were LoTG...I need to do some leveling on a few toons to actually be able to slot the ones I have floating around).
-
I'll go with a) intention.
Purples are by definition ultra-rare. Which is more rare than "rare". So, purples were very likely originally intended to be more rare and more costly than pool c/d recipes.
---------
This is only my play experience, but I started out playing my toons from 1-50, then once they reached 50 I would basically shelve them and work on lower toons.
Eventually, I noticed that between the opportunity to get purple drops and the fact that on a 50 I could earn inf and merits faster, I had more incentive to play my 50s more. I was leveling new toons less (and producing lower level goods less). If I needed stuff for my lowbies, it was more efficient to buy that stuff with my 50.
Then A-merits came along. Earning A-merits was just as easy on my lower level toons as it was for my 50s. They even had the benefit of rolling lower level recipes (which some, including myself, do want). Playing a self-sustaining lower-level character became a lot more viable again from an earning standpoint. It wouldn't rake in quite the same inf as a 50, but it does relatively ok. You may not make quite as much on one LoTG or Numina, but the volume of random rolls makes up for it. -
Heh...yep, that someone was probably Local_Man, actually.
-
Someone steered me onto the Coercive Persuasion: Contagious Confusion proc, and I love it on my Ill/TA. As has been stated, purple procs are generally nice.
I know I have the Force Feedback +Recharge slotted on somebody, but I forget where. My NRG/Kin Corr probably. I can't recall if I have it anywhere on my WM/Shield brute. I think I might, but I can't recall (and don't have the Mids build handy).
I slotted the Entropic Chaos: Chance to Heal Self on my Fire Blaster in Flares. I figure I spam that power so much (and the power doesn't need much in the way of end or recharge) that it provides a nice little boost. -
Dunno about F2P, but then I don't know very *much* about F2P. CoH is the only MMO I've played - free or not, I've not tried others.
It's very easy and convenient for me to just pony up the monthly fee every month (considering it is automatic and all). For not one, but two accounts. If I had to proactively purchase content/additions, I'm not sure if I would quite as automatically. Not to mention trying to keep track of what content I had on which account. It's bad enough that I can hardly remember what boosters I have on each now (though I would assume there would HAVE to be a better system than just listing everything as "Perk"). Might be worth noting too that what boosters I do have have largely been those included with various boxes (and one where I got really lucky with a free code). -
Quote:I don't mind either of these. The banner event I'll park at a banner or seek out a banner that isn't covered. If something organized happens, that's great. If not, that's fine too (it is amazing how many don't understand that all banners need to be covered). I don't mind fighting for the level range salvage and recipe drops that I can get - every now and then I'll be pleasantly surprised to find a Steadfast show up. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple more merits thrown out there though, maybe 2 per banner.Eh.
I agree with the banner event. There's not much interest in it *now,* and I think I've only seen interest in it twice during the year. (Honestly, something soloable would be nice, too - yeah, I can park some of my characters at *A* banner and stay there, but it doesn't accomplish anything.)
Disagree with the Rikti. I haven't seen that triggered much of late. And it's not a difficult event, or one you really need a team for.
I like the Rikti setup, as I can fully participate w/o teaming. I hope that some of the incarnate tasks are like this, actually. The only beef I have is the pathing of the Drop Ships - sometimes I just want to get to a mission door, but the darned low-flying things zap me anyway.
Zombies...bah, they just aren't worth it. Seemingly too resistant, hit too hard, and give piddly XP. Be gone with you, zombies. -

Dang, I could use a half-dozen Deific Weapons, too (and Hami Goos, for that matter).
