  1. I also agree that this feels like a problem. If you bought something, you're Premium, not free, strictly speaking. And it's a bit disappointing that your real dollars count for less than someone who's VIP. Seems unfair.

Hmm, I feel some feedback in the Beta forums coming....

This is true too in some respects. Get a team together, and run Radio or Newpaper missions. Those are what we used to use for fun-smashy and fast leveling. They still work too. Dial up the difficulty a bit (+1 or +2 is good for PUGs) and the XP will roll in that much faster.

Also, join the global channels for your server. Once you get 5 or 6 on a team it becomes much easier to find a folks who are willing to join, esp. with the global channels. Good times.
  3. Hey, glad to see stuff like this. However I have a request. I often repost your announcements on other gaming sites, like Evil Avatar.

Could I get your marketing or art department to add a small (< 500x500 pixels) themed image? It really works out better if announcements have a picture to go along with them and attract attention. Thanks!

    …ok, it’s kinda funny. Whatever.

We now need a ferocious honey badger in game, with it's own rig, and a honey badger temp power. That is all.
  6. If all you want to do is move sideways... A and D do that. (Q and E turn.) I tend to use the right mouse button for movement+looking around. A, D, S and W are for coarse movements and moving/stopping. It isn't hard to switch being playing CoH and something like Team Fortress 2. They're different enough styles where I don't mix them up, and since movement in CoH is really not critical, it doesn't matter as much either.
  7. Yes, it has been reported here that NC Soft support, with a lot of *polite* begging, will invalidate a code and transfer it to another account. They permanently close/ban the account you transfer from, in that case, to prevent any kind of RMT or account selling. But they can do it.

Bear in mind they are not obliged to do it. The item really does say that it can't be applied to an existing account, so you have no one to blame but yourself. Support is just ordinary folks who don't make these rules. And any time they bend a rule, they are sticking their own necks out for you. So do please be civil.

Don't forget too that you could just give the code to someone. If you have a friend who'd like to try the game out for 30 days and the two of you would play together, give them the code. At least then the $15 won't go to waste, and it should be fun!
  8. Well there's already a thread about BM on this forum:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=282019

I've played with BM/TA a little. It seems solid, and soloable. Reports of other folks is that it doesn't quite scale up to 50 well, but that was before Synapse bumped up the resists of the beasts, and changed some recharge times.

I was able to solo at +0/x4 with BM/TA pretty decently at levels 28 and 32. I think if I had a heal, I would have much tougher (I was playing to concept and skipped Aid Other). Time Manipulation, Thermal and Dark Miasma would probably be huge performers. To me the beasts seemed tougher than ninjas or zombies, but not as tough as bots or thugs. Damage was more than bots pre-32, less than bots afterwards. (Damage was probably on par with Necro.)

However I think the jury will be out for a while, as it takes a bit for everyone to work all the bugs out of their builds and decide whether a set is truly "worth it" or not. I personally plan to make either a BM/Time or BM/Dark on live once it's available.

Sandolfan's keypad binds. These are from the Mastermind forums, where they're stickied at the top of the page under Guides and FAQs.

  10. Don't overlook controllers. Especially a Fire/Rad I understand is strong with several similar types of toons teamed up. A team of Fire/Rad will burn through anything in the game, and obviously combined with other debuffers and buffers is still very strong.

However my answer to just about any "best" question these days is Fortunata. I don't think the cones are 60+ ft. out of the box, but most of the other attacks are, and the few PBAoE.. well, you have plenty of Defense to use those with little fear.

Not only do Fortunatas have decent ranged damage, they scrap about as well as Scrappers, control decently, and have excellent team buffs in Leadership and Mind Link. Oh, and they crit from Hide like stalkers.

Seriously, they're too good to ignore. You really should level one up just to find out if you like them. If not... respec them as a Night Widow/scrapper or combo melee ranged build.
  11. Good post from a new player. It's valuable to see how new players perceive the game.

That said, on your specific issues:

Knockback: Universal Travel, Knockback protection. You can take a travel power at level 4, and slot this at level 7. Yes, I think it's like 100,000,000 on the market, but it's that good. Level a scrapper to 20, get 2 Alignment Merits, buy one and email it to your level 7 blaster.

Field Analyst: never heard of this issue; it sounds bugish. If you change your difficulty, a mission "in progress" won't change, because it's already been spawned. You have to "reset" the mission by Abandoning it, the talking to the contact again. That should respawn it at the correct level. If that doesn't work, it's likely a bug. What mission is it specifically? The mission itself might make a difference.
  12. You have a bunch already. Reward Tokens are the new name for Vet Rewards, the things you used to get every three months for being subscribed.

Go to Menu -> Paragon Rewards and see what's on the screen. You'll already have some selected, depending on what your account had. You may have a few unspent; click on the stuff in your Tier that you want if so.

The only way to get more rewards is to spend money. A regular subscription is a great deal, because a monthly subscription gives you points each month to spend in the store. (Rewards and Points are two different things. Rewards = Vet Rewards, Points = cash spending money.)

However if you don't want to spring for a subscription, there's ways to get stuff cheaply. Ask how if being cheap is the way to go for you.

That's all I can think of for now. Good luck, and post again if you have any more questions.
  13. The other thing I was thinking for movement is first, tell her that's it's pretty hard sometimes even for experienced players. I get stuck on things still and can't get loose, and some of the older maps are just atrocious.

Then offer some "me time" where she just logs in and messes about, with out anyone else directing her or teaming. Just have her walk around Atlas Park and get a feel for the controls. Frankly many experienced gamers have to do just that so they can see how a game is played before they start trying to do fancy stuff.

It might help if you showed her where the "Walk" button is. It might be easier to move around without running into walls and stuff if she's moving slower. That'll giver her a chance to see the controls in slow motion. Then move up to regular walk, then Sprint, then hold down the space bar and jump everywhere, then Fly or whatever.

Just take it slowly and in stages. Let her "mess about" and come to you if she has a question.

    Sanptooth?

That's not how it worked for me. Do Ganymede's mission, talk to Ganymede, talk to DJ Hero. I did get a mess up where I think I had to do one Snaptooth mish before DJ Zero would attune me to Valentines Day tips. But on the second alt I didn't need to do that.

    Please Help!

I tend to put similar powers in the same slot. 4 is "heal" since my first toon, a Fire/Dark Corruptor, ended up with Twilight Grasp as her fourth power pick five years ago. 5 is Taunt because Taunt was my fifth power pick on my first tanker.

Main attacks tend to go 1-2-3. Details vary, but that's the layout. 0 tends to be a long recharge attack or panic power (Unstoppable). My Shield Tankers initial attack sequence is 9 0 6 4 because that's where Build Up and the big AoE ended up, and 1-2-3 are reserved faster recharging attacks that I mash more often. (5 is Taunt, 7 and 8 longer recharge attacks.)

Like others, first tray tends to be attacks, second tray is armors and toggles and movement, third tray are less used, important temp powers, and incarnate powers. Trays 4 and 5 are the seldom used vet reward powers and additional temp powers.

    SS/inv brute. Simple, iconic, effective.

I was going to say almost exactly the same. Except I'd go tanker because the better controls and defense mean that the vulnerable defender is less likely to have issues with aggro.

I like Invul. I also like Shield Defense; I'm very happy with the way my SD/War Mace turned out. Electric Melee and Super Strength also seem popular.

Go Shield, give yourself lots of wings and armor bits, and be the big tough guy to your wife's lightly built defender.
  17. On less populated servers, if you join the global channels you will see mid level teams forming. Task Forces and Tip missions especially are still popular. Typically when a new power set comes out (Issue 22 will have several) there'll be a lot more low level teams too.

It really would help if we knew your server and times you play though, since that might affect the answer somewhat.
  18. I couldn't make it, I had dinner tonight with my brother and his fiance. I'm glad to hear that the folks who did make it had fun!

This sounds like a terrible idea. Unless the people who do this for you are perhaps your parents back in England or something similar. There's no way I'd trust anyone who wasn't an immediate family member with both an online password and a wad of cash. Just ain't going to happen.
  20. 1. Find out who does sell game cards in Spain, and make plans to travel there. It's not uncommon in the U.S. that people live "out in the country" and need to make a special trip into a big town to get certain things.

    2. Find out what Spanish card NC Soft does accept. Get that card, by switching some funds to a bank that offers it if necessary.

    3. Re. PayPal, they sound like the want to confirm that the number matches the card. See if you can get the number on the credit card updated so that you can take the call where you presently reside. Or get a new card from a bank in Spain and register that with PayPal.
  21. Hmm, yeah, weird. It's working now for me too. Maybe some sort of hiccup in the system.

Well thanks for testing it out for me!
  22. I tried to log in to my NC Soft account, and got a rejected message, even though I tried several times and I'm sure I'm using the correct password. I double checked my password by entering it manually here and in game, so it's not like I had a brain fart and forgot it or something.

Is anyone else able to log in to their NC Soft account? This is really inconvenient because I was supposed to renew today. Just wondering if I should start a trouble ticket or just wait for it to be up again.

    Thanks!

No. Roll a VEAT. They don't need to be purpled out to be effective. But if you put a billion into one you can expect to get your inf's worth out of it.

I'd say Fortunata but if you want melee go Night Widow. If you're thinking more like the controller go Fort though. Or with two (or three) builds go both.

2 dollars will get them IOs and salvage for one month. It's 160 points for the Invention license, and the license is good for 1 month. Realistically, you'll need the auction house license too, which is another 2 dollars for a month. 5 bucks per month will actually get you a decent amount if you're not interested in VIP.

The best deal is actually to go VIP, and get a long term subscription. I'm paying $11 per month right now, and that gets me everything, plus 400 bonus points to spend each month. I'm effectively paying about $6 per month for absolutely everything in the game. The difference is that you have to be prepared to plunk down $80 to $120 for the long term subscription, and not everyone wants to do that.
