  1. So much to LOL about in this thread.

    Here's my 2 cents:
    Devs pose a problem.
    Players have 2 choices:
    1. Decide the problem is too tough/frustrating/unfun. Don't do it.
    2. Figure out a way to beat it/achieve the goal/contribute to the team.

I must admit, with respect to the LRSF, for a very long I was in the #1 camp; I thought it just sucked the big old ******** (put your own word in there). And it's still my least favorite TF. But if someone needs me to help out with it, and I can provide an AT that will help, I do, and it isn't nearly as sucky as it used to be, for me.

But people who don't like the STF/LGTF? Seriously, those are some of the funnest content in the game. Challenging, yes, but very fun. And when I say challenging, I mean that it's hard to run a Master's run successfully, and it needs a bit (5 minutes?) of planning (Like, for example, a tank makes these significantly easier. Not absolutely required, technically, but makes them easier.)

ITF? My favorite, until I19, and I don't know those 2 TFs well enough yet to make them my favorites; they may become my favorite before too long.

Dr. K? I Like it, but it is challenging. Cuda? Only done that one a couple of times, and I found it quite hard - I would only run it with people 'In The Know.'

Hami Raids? I did the old style raids, then I was totally intimidated by New Style, and HATED THEM! until some people (Madame Pistacio in particular among them - Thanks MP!) figured out a strategery, and I've been in on ~3 so far, as a taunt tank. Which makes me feel a warm and fuzy, because it makes me feel Important! So now, I LOVE the new Hami Raids - Go Figure! (Also, they GIMMEH SHARDZ!)

Rikti Ship Raids - I liked these things from the beginning - though I often faceplant... but SO WHAT? (Lucky I got brought up on a blaster, so faceplanting is not such a big deal to me - I attribute my extended longevity in this game mainly to this one fact.)

But my attitude is, Solve the Problem, or avoid it, if necessary, but I have yet to find a TF that is 'stupid and doesn't belong in the game.' (Though Old Posi and the Quartermaine TFs come quite close to that limit.)

Peope have done at least one of the new TFs in under 30 minutes, documented. The fact that that is possible, means, to me, that these TFs are NOT "too hard". I don't want Cake Walk content; I want challenging content with commensurate rewards, and OPTIONS that allow me to avoid undesired content [Which shards are specifically designed to address, and they do that exceedingly well. I don't HAVE to do the Cuda TF, I just run the ITF until I have enough shards to make the corresponding component.]

    We're gettting more options.
    We're getting challenging content.
We're getting desirable rewards. (Alpha enhancers, made of components, made of shards.)
Desirable rewards have a cost. (In this case, challenging content.)
Pay the cost, or find another way to access the reward desired. (Kill tons of enemies for shards.)

    What's next??
  2. (Apologies if this is a repeated thread)
I’d like to be able to see at a glance the different TF’s/Raids/Ways of getting specific Incarnate Components on the Incarnate Enhancement Creation/Placement Screen.

There seems to be plenty of room below each Incarnate Component creation/description screen to include this information, and it would eliminate the need for me to have a cheat sheet, or to have to go out of game to the web, to figure out what TF I would need to run for a particular component. Yup, Call me lazy.
  3. Maybe they're just off for the holidays, and some well deserved rest.
But if Arcana is right, I bet Avatea is breathing a great sigh of relief.

But seriously, GG, you actually SAID 'physical appearance' right THERE.
Claws' point is valid - if you say 'clothes should clearly imply morality', that indeed contradicts your above statement.

Also, as Schism said, the things you listed as 'Unalterable' are all totally alterable.

TLDR (forget that, I bloviate.): No one is implying that any particular physical feature determines morality. I believe the reasoning may go something like this:

Player: Hmm, I think I want to make a new character, and call her Loosey Morals. And I want to keep in that theme. How can I communicate that particular idea PHYSICALLY to people who don't necessarily understand the innuendo, or who can't see my name, or <reason> <reason>...?
Well, I can wear these clothes (revealing), and I can use this hairstyle(feminine), and I think I may slide the slider way over here, because people often associate people who accentuate secondary sexual characteristics with sexual proclivity - even if that is wrong, it is TRUE. ("I'm not saying it's right, but I understand." - Chris Rock.)

This may be news to some, and I may get some heat for saying something controversial, but I don't think it's really news.
This is NOT to say that a very thin, bald woman in an unflattering grey business suit can not be sexually promiscuous, but one would not be predisposed to assume such.

(I believe Dave Chapelle also addressed this exact point in his standup act, forming an analogy, "If you dress like a cop, people might assume you are a cop." And there is such a thing as 'dressing provocatively'.)

So let's all start acting like adults here. (I see many of the 'adults' are acting more childish than the younger posters, ironically.) I believe the OP meant that we need more options that illustrate that normal-shaped people can also be 'heroes'. I agree.

And it's simply foolish to say that "Well, what if I want a pony," because that is unrealistic in terms of the game engine, and not in the scope of current game plans, apparently. To ask for more realistic proportions is both in the scope of the engine, and within the current game philosophy. More options is always good. Quadripeds as an option is not realistic - that type o argument is called a Straw Man, iirc.
  5. Very sorry to see you go, Castle. Best Success wherever you may go.
  6. I think the issue is simply that the bottom of the slider should go down further. I'm with Chad, that I keep the slider down below 25%, iirc. Most anything larger than that looks silly to me. Let's keep personal comments completely out of this, shall we, boys?

As for the hair, I'm always gamey for more hairstyles; on the other hand, I do like a lot of the hairstyles; the fact that they would require a metric ton of hairspray to hold up is not immersion-breaking for me - that level of reality is sometimes overrated.

And as for dudes, we could certainly use more costume options for guys of all kinds. Especially more 'regular dude' options. But that's just me.

  10. I have several (Cuban) things to say to that:

These are games that give you near-instant dash moves, oftentimes require pixel-perfect positioning and split-second timing. And even in THESE games I rarely feel "a rush" once I'm actually comfortable with the controls and confident in my abilities.
[Please pardon my digression, but I feel I must.]

It's also endearing to be told that something is 'not in a mocking sense', then be told that this game is, "frikkin' slow-paced and glacial," and that someone cut their teeth on "action games", "that give you near-instant dash moves, oftentimes require pixel-perfect positioning and split-second timing. Quick condesceding tip: In order to not sound condescending, try not to BE condescending, and especially, don't deny you're being condescending, and then tell someone how much more awesome than them you feel that you are. It's condescending.

Also, look up "condescending," to make sure you know what that means. Because I'm not sure it means what you think it means.

To further comment on games that "require pixel-perfect positioning and split-second timing:"
    YAAAWWWWN.
    ymmv.
  14. Disagree. And anything you don't immediately see in missions will probably show up in the future. (The awesome invention of airbags in cars was not available immediately in every car; some cars had it, for a high price, then more had it, cheaper, and now nearly all have it.)

And there is the fact that the devs are human, and can't do it all at once.

And let's remember: special content is, erm, for lack of a better word... special. If every mission had Recognized-name AVs, they would get somewhat passe just like... Frostfire, for example.

Niklarus' idea sounds great, but sounds more like a several-issue-release, rather than a single issue - to reprogram all the contacts with added content? That is a HUGE undertaking.

    TF Timer

My concern is mainly this: Playing late late one night, (say, a Friday), finish a TF with my favorite character, next aternoon, get invited to the same TF, can't remember how long it will be 'til I can re-gain the ability to get incarnate components. (I suspect we'll be interested in getting incarnate components for a significant amount of time.)
Just thought I'd toss it out there, in case there was interest.

If you die because you are animation locked, its because you queued up an attack after your current one and after the blue appeared under you. If that's a problem, learn not to do that.

(I too hate the ski slope and do not have a single badge from it)
And for those 8 seconds, I definitely get a slight rush, and a small amount of fear. Very Visceral. Mission Accomplished, Devs! One of the most unique aspects of this TF in my opinion, and I WANT MORE OF IT!

And I occasionally get splattered. BFD. YMMV. Vengeance is a Beautiful Thing.
  17. "As a dedicated Tanker player, I consider these TFs to be the $%^&ing Antichrist."
    --Johnny Butane.

I think Spitting Trashcan responded to this adequately (more than once). My thought: If you play this game ONE WAY, you are sure to be disappointed. [And I am glad for that - otherwise, it would be City of (FOTM)]. And I would have quit long ago.

Do you feel there is content which is better suited to tankers? If so, then by definition, there is also content that is NOT better suited to OTHER AT's. (Storm's on Katie Hannon anyone?) I wonder how they feel about your "Tanker-awesome" content?

    Perhaps instead of saying,
"My tank suxxors in this TF - CHANGE THE TF!"
    Instead, one might say,
"Hmm, a tanker might not be the best choice for this TF, maybe I should try something else?"

An open mind is something to be encouraged. Causing people to vary combat tactics may be one small way to do that. Also, moar funnerer.

I have to repeat: I am SO GLAD I started the game as a blaster. Starting as nigh invincible (scrappers, tankers) is a path to disappointment, in my opinion.

    TF Timer

(Apologies if his is a repeated sugg, I searched and found nothing)

I'd like a timer that tells me when I last ran a certain TF on a character.
maybe accessible via a slash command, ("/TFtimer"?), maybe in the Real Numbers... so I can know if a character is eligible for Incarnate component rewards. It's getting crowded in my head.

Alternatively, upon clicking a TF contact, maybe he can tell you, "Elegible for Incarnate Components in XX min."

Indeed, I agree. In fact, I haven't recently read any "I soloed the entire ITF on +3 today," threads... I wonder what's wrong?

The Devs will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS lag behind the players in "I can beat you" ability, for the simple fact that there are X*10,000 people playing this game, and there are <50 Devs (on the extremely high side).

So just wait a few weeks, until the Experts know how to pwn the TFs, (and wait until we have all 10 slots - perhaps these TFs will then look like a kindergarten ring-around-the-rosy, and it won't seem so silly that they were tough to the neo-Incarnated...)

She proceeds to dispatch all of the heroes and defense forces in the area, after all, Steel Canyon is only a level 20 zone at max. She does this solo for the most part (I consider her Warriors being part of her Lore Incarnate slot, pets if you will).

It takes eight proto-Incarnates to bring her down, yet her attacks can and will devastate any of them.

When we arrive in Praetoria, we crawl out of the sewer. We cause zero damage; Neuron's plaza remains pristine on the mission map as if we have no impact or signigance at all.

We proceed to struggle against nameless nobody enemies who are automagically level 54, in Neutropolis, a level 20 max zone.

With the help of seven allies, we only face two heroes, and their powers are superior to ours in every way. Compared to how we fared against BM's attacks, they laugh off ours. It takes one lazy catgirl to bring down any of us and the only reason we win is by it being 8 on 1 (or 4 on 1 depending) like cowards.

Who comes across as more epic and powerful in these two examples? NOT US in my opinion. I don't feel more powerful. I don't feel like I'm "on the way to being seen as a peer to the NPCs." I feel like I've been reduced in power, because before I could at least stand up to any of them. Now I have to run away like an ant being chased by a magnifying glass, kite like a coward and fight legions of demonic spiders because of a sadistic GM.

    .
I believe there is an axiom, particularly well suited to the branches of the military: [horribly paraphrased]

"You've got to tear someone down so you can build them up."

Perhaps this is an example of this. Maybe you don't want to experience this type of thing... Must I finish this thought?

In any case, I've enjoyed both of these TFs a lot. And I intend to make them a mainstay of my TFing experience. I really had a great number of adrenaline rushes during the 2nd (??) mission of the Apex TF - those who have done it probably know what I'm referring to - more than nearly any content in the game to date, certainly in recent memory. I have less recall of Tin Mage, but I've only run it once, and it was a few days ago. I never found myself bored, or frustrated - esp since I haven't done it 54,237 times.

Since many people like it, and some don't, I'm going to chalk this up to You Like what You Like, I Like what I Like, and You and I are different.

And reiterating what someone else said, if it's too hard, there's plenty of easier content to be had.

Besides, it also has Keith David in it. And I'm hoping he is allowed to keep some of his zen-like awesomeness from Pitch Black.
Seriously, Summer Glau and Keith David? Daaaamn. I hope to Sweet Jeebus that it's not as 'good' as Manimal. But alas, the only hope it would have had is if it were on a Basic Cable channel instead of a Big 4 Network.

[Of course, the cancellations of Rubicon and Terriers puts the lie to that assumption... <sigh...>]

Now, if only there were a way to just show a series of photos of Summer Glau, with an awesome voiceover by possibly the best voice in any medium (behind James Earl Jones,) I would buy that!
  23. Has anyone noticed the gigantic "Eden"-style rock-door in RWZ, South of Point Du Hoc, in a gigantic hole in the ground? Looks like a mission door, and it gives the Blue Hand/"You Cannot Enter" when you get close.

Could this be a future mission door, or are people from that other game (you now, that one, and that one, and THAT one...) trying to tunnel in and steal all our monkeys??

    I for one, sense DOOOM.

And I welcome our new Monkey-stealing overlords.

*** - I often follow this phrase with, "Now Gimmeh Shards!"

Secondly, there's the comic book feel issue; a villain in a prepared trap at the heart of his power... while there are probably a few particularly stubborn heroes that would think "I just have to hit him harder!", the majority would be trying to figure out a way to get him out of his sweet spot.

And most seriously, this means that if you're a squishy character who has a bad day, you're totally screwed. Hospital, restock on inspirations, back into mission, run around to the lava room... previously, that was enough for him to pop out about a dozen bifurcations, but he seemed to have an upper limit and would stop. Without a limit, there's nothing stopping him from Agent Smith-ing into enough clones to crash people's clients, well beyond any winnable state.
I have to agree with these sentiments. He's not hard, but I don't really love the idea of making players play a certain way, and this 'feels' like that is what's going on. If it wasn't an exploit, which I can't see how it would be, I think outside-the-box tactics should be encouraged, not discouraged.

It is interesting that the devs have seemed to fly directly in the face of traditional MMO-type endgame content (imo) with the Tin Mage and Apex Task Force design. Those TFs seem to be ostensibly 'defeating' players' tendency to do endgame stuff/raids in a very 'controlled' and almost boring way, and make them much more dynamic, "think-on-your-feet" content (esp. Apex, kudos!). So it seems that this is an example of a creative solution on the part of the devs to what they seemed to consider a 'problem' (ie, staid old boring endgame content.)

But the case of the Trapdoor changes seem to philosophically contradict this idea of creative solutions.

Or maybe I'm being too analytical here. Ooo, Shiny!
