Remember, just because YOU don't like something, it doesn't mean the whole world shares your taste. Adding tintable colors to the few powers that currently don't have it would be nice, but it's seriously not going to retain subscriptions. "Oooo...my controller can now have a green fireball. I'd better stay in the game!"

The Lambda Sector and BAF are the type of end game content other MMOs have, but from my experience they are MUCH more friendly to casual players that EQ or WoW-style raids. I remember a Plane of Hate raid in EQ that lasted well over 10 hours. TEN HOURS! And that was with an experience group that knew how to raid the zone.

Believe it or not, yes, there are people who want this type of stuff in the game.
City of Heroes has never been the kind of game that is designed for that sort of people though. It's never been the raid/grind style of MMO. It's always been much more casual. That's always been a big part of its identity, and I don't really think that changing that is a good thing. Do we really want to play in another WoW clone?

In the end though, I think my biggest problem with the new Incarnate content is that it's required. It's pretty clear that if I want to participate in the majority of content coming out in the near future, I'm required to participate in the grinding. The Apex and Tin Mage TFs were a taste of that, with the requirement that you had to have your alpha slotted or have a -4 level shift applied. And we've already been told that future content will feature things like level 54+2 enemies, so we'll need to have the level shifts to take part.

Now sure, I could just ignore it if I wanted, but then I'm essentially getting no new content for several issues in a row, and to me, that feels like a waste of my money every month.

tl;dr version: Voluntary raid content okay. Required raid content a big no no.
  2. I feel you man.

I did some back of the envelope calculations, and it looks like getting the very rare in a single new incarnate slot will take about 2000 threads, and a billion influence. Even assuming threads drop 5x as often as shards did, that's 4 times as much work as getting the very rare alpha slot was. And getting the very rare in the alpha slot was no walk in the park.

And we don't even have a large variety of content to run to get these like we did with the alpha slot. We just have to run the same two trials over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

And from the one I attempted earlier tonight they're not even that fun. I took my purpled out, softcapped fire/sr scrapper into the lambda sector trial, and died at least 5 times in the first 15 minutes.

I finally checked out the combat logs to find out "oh hey, instead of being floored at 5%, these guys have over a 30% chance to hit me"

So instead of giving me awesome new content that makes me feel like my character is a superhero, the devs give me a long repetitive grind that invalidates the several billion influence worth of IOs that I spent several months earning the money for.

    Thanks Devs!
  3. I just recently started up a statesman tf, and wasn't able to enter the first mission door. I would click on it, and the mouse cursor would turn into an hourglass for a few seconds, then it would go back to the blue hand, and nothing else would happen. I tried logging out and back in, even restarting the game, and nothing.

I'm not sure if it's related, but my navigation bar is showing the mission architect box even though I'm not doing architect content.

I petitioned and got help from a GM, but all he did was teleport me into the thorn tree mission. Once we completed it, I was still unable to enter the next one.

    Anyone run into this before?

Well, the first thing you need to do is realize that it is quite rare in this game that anything needs firm and decisive leadership. Most content simply doesn't require it.

95% of the time when I join a team, I expect two things out of the leader.

    1. Recruit teammates.
    2. Choose missions.

If they're doing those two things, then I'm happy, I expect nothing else out of them. In fact, I would probably start to resent it if the leader were constantly giving out instructions and telling everyone what to do. The only situations in which I find that acceptable are if you've signed up for something that needs done in specific way. A task force or raid for example. Otherwise, just stick to points 1 and 2 above, and you'll be fine.
  5. Definitely wasn't too happy about the Halloween event as compensation for the servers being down so long. I'm not fond of the Halloween event in the first place, so I'd rather they just did nothing. I realize I'm probably in the minority though.

Although if the percentage of people who complain about the holiday events here on the forums is a representative sample of the entire game population, then there's probably a lot of people out there who aren't real happy about it either.

I guess my point is that if they wanted to make it up to us for the servers being down so long, there's better ways they could have gone about it.

    Best VS Avs

Well, the two best melee primaries for soloing AVs are Dark and Fire. Claws come next on a scrapper, but not sure if that's true for a brute or not, since they don't get as much out of stacking follow up for +dam.

For secondaries, shield is by far the best. SR and Regen are also good choices. Regen and Willpower can pull it off, but it's not really their strong point, since both do better against big crowds. Fire, Electric, and Dark will have the most trouble. I'm not really sure where energy aura and stone stand.

If you're planning a melee build that can solo AVs, be prepared to spend quite a bit of money on it. For /shield or /SR builds, you'll need to be softcapped, and for regen you'll need quite a bit of recharge. For any of the primaries, you'll want lots of recharge so you can run a good attack chain.

This. Although if you're redside and doing TV farms, shield is a REALLY bad choice. Dark armor is also a possibility, but you'll have endurance issues.

  9. You almost had me there for a second. Link or it didn't happen though.
  10. Well, it's hard to say since I'm not sure what could actually be done in a day. One of the little things I'd like to see done though is to allow team members to demote the team leader. So if everyone (or perhaps even 3/4 of the team) votes for it (similar to simultaneous glowie clicks) the team leader gets demoted and the person below gets the star.

If I wanted to be evil I'd get rid of ED for a day.
  11. I'm running Windows 7, and even with running the program as an administrator, I still have to download the patches and install the manually. Is there anything else I can do so the updater will automatically update the game for me?
  12. Being the team lead doesn't really give you the right to order your teammates around like underlings. Keep in mind that they're real people, and that a little politeness can go a long way. And honestly, most of the time it's not even necessary.

The only time I even give instructions to teammates is if we're trying to do something in a specific way and they're unfamiliar with it (such as a STF or a speed LGTF or ITF) or if the strategy we're using isn't working and I want to try something else. And even then it pays to be polite instead of just barking out orders.

Don't get me wrong, I kind of see your side too OP. It can be very annoying when you're asking your teammates to do something and they aren't listening (like the one guy who always insists on trying to save glacia and/or infernia on speed LGTFs), I just don't think you were justified in what you asked them to do this time around, and I don't think you handled it very well when they didn't listen.
  13. Not even close to essential. I don't have fly on a single character, and pretty much only my blasters take hover.

For the majority of my characters, I just make sure I have a jetpack power and that meets any flight needs I might ever have.

While I do think that inflation is an issue that needs to be dealt with, capping prices isn't going to fix the problem.

Everything on the markets is expensive (and getting moreso) because as a group, we earn influence faster than we earn 'stuff'. That lets us pay more and more as time goes on for the stuff. The solution then is to either earn stuff faster, or earn influence slower. That's the only way inflation will be fixed.

All that's going to happen if prices are capped is people will take their trading off-market, just like they do now with some of the PvP IOs that sell for more than the inf cap.

    They are not difficult.
They are certainly more difficult than most AE exploit farms have been. These require some actual skill to pull off.

And while I agree with you that they will most likely be nerfed, I'm just saying I don't agree that they need to be. I think that risk=reward should be the only metric for determining if something is an exploit or not. Time should not factor into it. Or if the devs are going to include time, then they should just put a cap on leveling speed and be done with it.

To answer this question, FM compares extremely well to other brute sets for single target DPS. It and DM are neck and neck for single target DPS, and I believe under certain circumstances (i.e. minimal targets for soul drain) FM even pulls ahead of DM.

Could anyone explain to me why people claim to be level 51?

    See?

I guarantee that anyone who is familiar with the incarnate system knows exactly what is meant when someone says level 51 LFT. So as long as saying level 51 gets the right message across, who gives a crap?

You know what? At the moment, I generally say T(X) with (X) being whatever tier of the alpha slot the character has, but from now on I vow to say level 51 just because it pisses you off. Who's with me?

I already covered this in my last couple posts. When discussing the sum total of all CoH characters, AVs exhibit a much wider range of difficulty than GMs do, but on average, AVs are easier to solo than GMs due to the fact that while it is relatively easy to create a build capable of surviving the incoming damage from most AVs and GMs, it requires a very specific powerset and build to be able to successfully kill a GM. An AV on the other hand is much easier to kill, and can be done by a much wider range of ATs and powersets.

If we're talking specifically about characters that can already solo GMs, then as I already mentioned, some AVs will be significantly harder than a GM, and others will be easier. On average though, AVs may be slightly more difficult to such a character due to dealing more damage and having nastier debuffs usually.

Eh, I doubt it. I've been on a few, and the rewards are nothing special. Certainly nothing on the level of some of the exploitive AE farms that have existed in the past.

However, I do disagree with the necessity for this to get fixed (just like I did the all-boss farms that were popular for awhile). This is not an exploit, and the risk/reward ratio is not incorrect for this. These farms are quite difficult, and the rewards are commensurately high. Nothing wrong with that.

    Debt @ lvl 50?

When you die at level 50 you still get debt. When you kill an enemy at level 50, you earn XP. This xp is applied first to any debt which you might have, then any XP which is left over is discarded, because you are at the level cap. The whole mechanic exists so that you can continue earning credit towards debt badges even at level 50 if doing so is important to you (and it is to a lot of villains, since they need one of the debt badges to get an accolade).
  23. Well, most of the people running these will already be sitting at the resist cap (for fire at least) and the defense softcap, and the enemies don't debuff resistance or defense. Therefore, the only support you can offer is buffs to kill speed (damage, recharge, to-hit) and healing/regen/recovery, or debuffs. Since you want aggro-free, that discounts most debuffs. Your best bet then is going to be empathy or pain domination.

Empathy can be used by a defender, which will mean your heals will heal more. Other than that, the sets are relatively similar, with pain domination having more damage buffs and empathy having more recharge buffs. Overall I'd say go with empathy, and aim for perma adrenalin boost, but either set will be good for what you want to do.

I'd rather see different story arcs for heroes and villans which could be mechanically co-op but with differing objectives. The heroes trying to save the natives of the Shard and the villains taking advantage of them.
Well, the devs seem to make any new zones anymore co-op, so I was going for low hanging fruit I guess. It would be cool if it were sort of a competitive co-op zone though. You could have missions with similar goals but different ways of going about them for heroes and villains.

Some of the more advanced AVs have a great deal of RNG involved, like does Recluse hit you repeatedly with his -end drain channelgun even while you are softcapped and drops your toggles? Or does Silver Mantis use her hardest hitting attack when she hits BU?
It's true that AVs exhibit a much wider range of difficulty than GMs do, but on average a GM is much harder to kill than an AV is. Recluse is one of the hardest, due to being a giant cheater. Silver Mantis isn't all that hard. You just have to learn to watch for the build up animation and then stay out of her way until BU wears off.
