I see what you guys are saying. Another thing, with 2 SD brutes, mobs will prolly drop faster than it takes to build fury anyways. I may swap to a /dark or /thermal build. I just wanted to try a set i haven't played yet and caltrops + rain of fire sounded nice, lol. But so does Fearsome Stare + Rain of Arrows.

I have both. A fire/kin purpd out and an Elec/SD purpd out. I farm both.
Elec/SD is fun to play but farms slower than my fire/kin. Mainly due to siphon speed to run from mob to mob and i dont use SS for my travel like most ive seen. At 0x8 i can 2 shot the whole mob with my charges on my scrapper. He's soft capped with no travel and can handle +4x8 on a BM farm. (without bosses and w/o 1 w/ the SD)
I've found my fire/kin isn't anything more special than any other toon BUT when i add my fire/sonic to follow it allows me to kill +4x8 (with bosses) just as fast as my Elec/SD killing 0-+1x8. (with bosses)
When it comes to just plain farming i use my /kin because it feels much faster than the elec/sd or my arch/mm.
I really dont like the electric powerset other than the L. Rod. Most are single target and the damage don't seem very high for the bosses even with purps on the attacks. Feels like forever to kill the bosses that the charges don't kill. At higher levels, that is. Killing 50's don't count. lol. -
Yea, i was concerned about that. But since it's a controlled team, i can just get them to work with me and let me set up then pull the mobs. This is my first traps/devices toon and i hope i even like it. lol. We're use to running at a larger team size so hopefully it'll work out nicely.

My cousin, wife and i are making a team on red. We normally play on blue so im new at the strengths of red.
I know brutes build up power as they fight. In Mids, the base values are considerably lower than scrappers.
My question is, how fast does the Fury build up to reach maximum damage? Is it good enough to have such lower base values? They are both making Fire/SD brutes and im running a Fire/Traps Corruptor. Thanks for any info. -
Quote:Very well written. Debuffs do make the damage numbers go up, it took me a while to figure out that's why my damage values differed. This is a lot to cover, and I don't have the time before I leave work to do it. I'll toss out some general concepts and someone else will probably come in and correct it or fill the gaps.
In CoH many stats are interchangeable. The simple example of this is the defense soft-cap. It's considered a soft-cap because at 45% defense a lvl 50 minion will have 5% chance to hit you, which is the to-hit chance floor. Regardless of how much defense you have the chance to hit will never go below 5%.
The opposing stat for defense is to-hit. Effectively defense and -to-hit do the same thing. Example.
A SR scrapper with 45% defense is at the soft-cap.
A dark defender that uses a slotted darkest night and fearsome stare on a mob (-25%+ -27% to-hit) is also effectively at the defense soft-cap.
While not actually having any defense the to-hit debuffs lower the mobs chance to hit to the lowest amount possible.
As far as stacking goes, most (if not all) debuffs do not stack from the same caster. I don't have time to double check this, but i'm almost positive. Same goes for most buffs, with a few exceptions. Thinks like Clear Mind are stackable, but Force Fields are not (with the exception of zoning being considered a different caster). So, a Poison MM can't stack Envenom on a target, 2 poison MMs can both use theirs once.
As far as I know there is no diminished returns outside of pvp, or hard/soft-caps. Example.
If you're up against a mob with 10% resistance and have a rad on your team that uses enervating field. The mob now has -30% resistance.
Things like this can come in handy for creating optimal team makeups. Say you're a scrapper and you want to do the most damage possible. A kin is a good option because fulcrum shift can put you at your +damage cap. But you still have a higher damage potential. +damage and -resistance are interchangeable. So, if a rad is added to the team that uses enervating field for -resistance on the mobs your damage goes up! This is why support heavy teams are significantly more powerful then most other team makeups.
One other thing to note. While things like defense and -to-hit are interchangeable, for high end things like soloing AVs you have to take the purple patch into consideration. AVs have scaling resistances for many stats based on their level. At level 50 AVs have 85% resistance to -RunSpeed, -Recharge, -Endurance, -ToHit, -Defense, -Perception, -Regeneration, and -Recovery. In the example with the dark defender above doing -52% to-hit with fearsome stare and darkest night, against a 50 AV that number is reduced to -7.8%. That puts them way below the soft-cap and explains why in high end cases its not the best option.
My SD scrapper hits (with SD Charge) about 600-700hp with BU, but when i add Melt Armor then my damage goes over 800hp and when a /kin is on the team and all of it is added i can hit over 1100hp. -

Quote:Welcome!Hey all-
Figured this would be a good place to start as I'm new to the game and I really have no idea as to what I am doing.
First off..I don't really know what to play...I'm thinking that I want to play a blaster as they have some range to them and from what I have read they pack a pretty good punch. Not exactly sure tho. I love ranged classes.
The problem is..I have no idea what build to pick or where i can find a good one.
If someone could help me with that..it would be a big help!
Oh..and I haven't chosen a server yet so if someone would like to make a suggestion I'm all ears!
My wifes first blaster was a Fire/Ice. It gives awesome mitigation as well as damage. Thats the only one i can comment on because i really dont play them.
I'll offer a few combos that ive found fun to play.
Scrapper- Fire/SD, Katana/Inv,WP or Regen., Spines/Fire. (spines offers ranged)
Tank- Ice/DM, Ice/Fire, Stone/Ice(not very strong but very team friendly) SD/Fire or SS
Controller- Ice/Rad (very team friendly), Ill, Fire or Plant/ Storm, Fire/Kin, Ice/Cold
Defender- Dark/Dark is the only one i got i really dont play them either.
Have fun! -
Quote:Welcome.I am a new player. Hello. I would also like to ask for help in getting an enjoyable gaming experience, meaning I don't want to spend several hours at a time beating one mook. Ergo, I am asking for help.
I have two issues to adress. The first one is about where I should go to continue a regular gaming sequence. I've only reached level six recently, and I've completed the missions I could get in Atlas park. The areas I've checked so far contain either mooks too weak to get experience from, or ones more than double my level. What area should I go to next?
The second issue is my power set, an AR/gadget Blaster with tech origin. So far I've gotten all the main power set attacks, and I plan on getting leaping for flavor reasons. Is there any major stumbling blocks for this build (other than late game resistances) or suggestions on what I should take?
If this topic should be moved to another sub forum, that is fine. Thank you for any scraps of information that you would be willing to share with a new player.
Kings Row via the Yellow Line (train) or the Hollows via the "red dot" on your map of Atlas.
As far as an enjoyable exp., beatin 1 atta time isn't the best or funnest way, imo. My advice would be to look for players of your level and start a team or join teams when possible. It will help you level faster and learn more within the game from others.
Have fun. Enjoy. -
Freakalympics is what i run. It can be done under an hour for 34 merits. Not sure what level it starts tho.
-
I rarely ever crash but over the last week or so, mines been giving me fits, too. I had to run it in safe mode for a few days with vid settings on lowest. I normally just run in performance and neer have any problems. After a few days at minimal, i put it back on performance and it's been ok. Very weird. I didn't know if it was just Justice or if it was my pc.
-
Yea, im going Thugs/Storm on mine and Thugs/Pain on the follow. I thought about taking my 3rd but i wanted to try 2 first.

Quote:Most may not be able to do it effectively, but that may be their skill level too. For example:I've dual boxed in other games, and it wasn't some thing that I find really works as well as some claim. Yes, it is possible, but not as effective as some would lead to believe. As for masterminds, I KNOW how easily a fight can go wrong. Especially if the 'team' is not high defense based. A thug/storm would be increadibly hard to die with. Especially if you have five, all running hurricane. Bots might also fit that catagory. But other sets don't have that level of defense and knockback.
On heroes i tried running a fire/kin with a fire/rad on follow. I did good, so i thought. So, on my sons account i made a fire/sonic. WHOA! A huge difference. I can solo +2x8 w bosses on my /kin (spamming heals). With the /rad (spamming heals) i can do +3 w/ bosses but that's about it. With my /kin and /sonic i can run +4x8 (almost without using Transfusion) and do it as fast as my /kin alone on 0x8.
In short, knowing which powersets to pair with which powersets makes a huge difference. That's kinda what i was asking for with MM's. How can i maximize the xp and keep the speed, too. Ya dig? But to each thier own.
Without making a fire/sd brute. lol. (but i want one of those, too.)
So, as of now, im only gonna run 2 and not 3. I went Thugs/Storm on mine and went Thugs/ PD on the follow. PD may not be great, but i get a constant heal aura and a damage boost so we'll see how it goes. -
Madam, do you speak from experience or do you just dislike dualing? Or just dislike dualing MM's?
Smurphy, i see what youre saying and i love /storm. But i wasnt sure how to dual /storm or /dark unless i was the one using it since those sets are alot more active sets unlike PD or Thermal.
I use 2 pcs beside each other with them windowed. I was thinking the same as you, with running in and having the others on follow. I have streeted so far and its very easy. The 4 pets that i do have kill really fast. I havent even put any enhancements on them yet because i was unsure if i was gonna keep that setup. I dont think im keeping Poison. Too many single target going on for what im wanting i think.
Anyways, thanks for the input. -
Im not asking if it's possible. Im not having any problems at all with how to do it. I dual and trip all the time. Its not hard for me.
Im asking what 2ndaries would be best for the situation because ive never played Pain, Thermal or Poison and thats the 3 im wanting to choose from. Sorry if my OP wasnt clear on that.
Atm, i have a thug/poison and a bot/pain but im only level 8 so i can start over if poison or pain isnt that good.
Also, i dont team while dualing (unless im PLing people), so im not worried about other people and team wipes. I only run with like 5 globals and i never PuG. Im looking to level them at a good rate and then farm them at 50 together. -
So, itd be harder to do that with MM's than running 3 trollers?
I can currently run a fire/kin with a fire/sonic and fire/rad on follow or the first 2 while sitting one at the door to PL.
Why would it be different with 2 MM's? -
I'm wanting to try to dual box 2 MM's but i have no idea of which combos. Any suggestions?
I'm considering 2 Bots/PD, or 1 Bot/PD and 1 Thug/PD or Therm or Poison. I'd like one heal and 1 debuff but not sure if two healing from PD would be better than a debuffer.
At this point im clueless on which 2ndary to go with. Pros, Cons.... Thanks for any ideas. -
My wife and i do this some.
I'd go with a troller or def. My picks would be: (depending on his scrap)
Plant/Storm. If used correctly the storm is an awesome set, paired with the control and seeds of confusion, itll work great with a scrapper. Nothing wrong with KB when used right, even on teams.
Ice/Rad. Ice has all the control needed and /rad has all the debuffage needed. Nothing can beat AA and CC once Ice Patch hits the ground, imo.
A /kin would be good also for the scrapper. Unlimited end and health is nice.
Or like someone else said, another scrap is cool, too, but i prefer a type of debuff for bosses and AV's. -
kk tyvm. ill keep trying. im noooo good at this stuph lol
-
5 meg cable. maybe i dided something wrong lol. pc isnt but like a year old.
-
i think i got it but it says 63 hours.... grr. lol. that sound right?
-
It says to download a 2nd copy of the game but when reading how to access training room it talks about going into the folders. Do i need to redownload another game or mess with folders?

Quote:Neither was the post that nethergoat left about orange salvage, but let me guess, youre stuck up his tail like some others to only point out my post. i could care less if it was helpful, it wasnt meant to be. The first one that i left was, though, in case your ignorance missed it. Thank you.Thread topic has three words: Purple Drop Change
Discussion has been on purples, drop rates, and whether that's changed. Your example of 7 Nevermelting Ices is a good one, showing that clusters of drops are not necessarily evidence of a change in drop rates. Thanks for contributing meaningfully about how humans interpret or misinterpret random clustering! -
I'd prolly go fire also for bosses and higher level farming due to faster attack chains. My elec/sd does awesome damage to even con but the higher it gets, the longer it takes to kill. I really don't like elec melee at all, i just love the dual charges tho.
