  1. We all know that every negative comment represents a billion people. So if it is 10 posters that means 10 billion people are pissed.

On the flip side, really all the discussions are occuring between about 10 debbie downers and 10 dev apologists. Neither side can claim superiority outside of their own minds.

It isn't ED2.0 coming it is diminished returns. Just look to the pve idea test bed known as pvp. Diminished returns tackles all the problems the devs have been rumbling about.

Oh wait you mentioned DR lol. Ya, you aren't alone in thinking that along with all the good of GR will come a lot of "necessary reductions".

Pve'ers are going to scream bloody murder when DR hits them, just like pvp'ers did. It won't hit pve quite as hard though as the environment is less min-max by nature, but people will be PO'd for sure.

There is plenty to be positive about though DR makes pvp a LOT better.... <crickets>
  2. A dozen assaults on GW, that sounds like farming to me

I'm just not sure what the purpose of this was. The time it took just makes me feel bad.

Was it morbid curiosity? I mean I would have just run the numbers, saw it would take half a week and moved on.

At 80 mins you were dealing less than 6 dps over the regen rate. I'm not sure if I would post a 100 dps build, but like I said, gj I guess.

Personally I was frustrated if my fire/storm/psy troller took more than 5 mins to drop AV's that don't have a godmode/dullpain. Just before Castle pulled the plug on Lightning storm I could tag the weak AV's (which Posi and GW certainly aren't) in just under 3 min (no insp, clicks, temps).

I'm just not sure what the point was other than going for the masochist badge.

Find a way to put a purple dam proc in dom and blaze and you'll cut that time by a factor of 6x.
  3. Gah 80+ mins. gj I guess.

This sounds like an unintended way to play the game though

As I recall, Phase Shift and its ilk were given a 30-second timer for activation chiefly for PvP reasons. Issue 13 added tech that makes it possible for the game to distinguish between PvP and PvE play, and the biggest PvE exploit for Phase Shift, clicking glowies while phased, was fixed long ago. So does Phase Shift still need to have a 30-second use limit while in PvE? Obviously it would keep the limit in PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was added for pve reasons as well.

No all it takes is them making MA the way they want people to use it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And which people's way would that be?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Positron's way. It's his toy and I don't want him to have another hissy fit.

So if he has some way he wants it used (and he does) he should be absolutely clear about that. The only way to be absolutely clear is to actually build it that way.

The devs keep beating around the bush and making everyone jump through hoops. It is boring at best. Cut to the end where you force MA to behave the way that he wants it by coding it in place.

It's ok, I know talking about Jack gets people riled up.

The minute someone posts a top 20 most influencial list that they are on for their respective profession is when their "hate" stops seeming trivial and petty, even childish.

That isn't going to happen though because the world is comprised of nobodies. Of which this forum is no exception.

I'm sure if we put up each person's career for throngs of people to disect we'd all have a heap of hindsight errors. Be thankful that doesn't happen because I seriously doubt most people could handle it. I know I couldn't.

Humor is great. When it's funny.

LOL, I personally couldn't give a damn what folks think about my career on the internet.

I have a feeling Jack's emotions aren't that fragile either.

Humor is entirely subjective. I'm laughing at most of the posts in this thread while I'm sure others aren't.

I say put your money where your mouth is. Post a link to all of your work. All of it. I bet we see some sensitivity come out pretty quickly.

Unless you are one of those people that could just jump up and sing the national anthem infront of a sold out stadium. But they are one in a million. If you were I doubt you'd be here lurking in an online community, but maybe.

LOL, right cause posting my personal life on an online community shows some strong e-peen. I'll do it after you.

Also whoever said I worked in any sort of creative field in which I'd have work to post.

You said it not me. If you think you won't care then do it. Otherwise stop talking out of your [censored]. Or were you not comparing yourself to Jack and his apparent ability to not get phased?

I really don't care what you do for a living, but we know only creative work can be shared through the internet.

I have no intention of posting all my work, I already admitted I doubt I could handle it getting thrashed to sh*t. But I'm not the one talking out of my butt.

"Again, i don't think Jack's emotions are all that fragile. See that there, that was me getting back to the point of the discussion. "

And here was the post. In question. I'll leave for those to make of it what it will.

The response was again failure of comprehension.

Ofcourse like the poster i just responded to said "I've been known to not be right."

EDIT: Also I never addressed the stupidity of the top 20 list. Anyone who knows mmo history sees the problems with the order of that listing.

I said they must have some competency, and I firmly believe this to be true. Feel free to prove me wrong but it will be very difficult to find an influential person that doesn't contain some competency that lead them to their current standing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That depends on if the competency has to be at something positive or not. Ie, does someone who is a competent liar or cheat, count as competent?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is it something that not everyone is innately good at?

While a comptency might not be socially desireable in one situation it can be invaluable in another.

Take for example lying (seeing as how it has been mentioned). Someone who excels at lying is generally seen as "bad", but put them into hostage negotiation and their ability to lie suddenly becomes a valuable asset.

There are no competencies that can't be pushed around the morality meter, but that of course makes the presumption that your morality is the right basis to follow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, yet I would HOPE that SOME morality is just outright off the way no matter what standard you apply.

Otherwise people in this thread would not be freaking out from having Jack Emmert's name mentioned in the same sentence as that of Stalin and Hitler. Which btw, was an idiotic and unnecessary freak out based on how all three were used in the sentence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I'm not the d-bag that brought Hitler into the convo in the 3rd? post.

I also have the ability to detect jokes, which is obviously lacking. Forgive me for suggesting that someone that compares Jack Emmert to Hitler and Stalin, turns around and says "actually I like him, more than most" might have some very conflicted emotions.

Oh that's right he wasn't comparing them. It was just coincidence that they all appeared in the same paragraph get real.

To address "morality" though I for one don't think it is at all clear cut.

For example: someone really good with a gun goes up in a bell tower and makes a mess. That is unquestionably bad right?

What if that belltower was in a warzone and the mess was "enemies", still bad?

The competency of using guns isn't "bad", but rather how a person applies it.

We are freaking out that jack and Hitler were used in the same paragraph because we have been taught Hitler = evil. There are some people in the world that would still think that such a comparison would mean they highly respect Jack, even worship him.

I can say that is wrong with absolute conviction, but only if I'm right. And I'm not right to everyone sadly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    LOL, that is all.

Morality was not the comparison being made. Epic fail.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Morality was indeed one of the factors brought up regarding what consitutes a competency.

/fire may not be as fast, Combustion is just a little slower than PSW in animation time. I've watched my friend farm on his plant/fire/scorp and he does rather well w/ I believe perma Patron Pet and Fiery Embrace.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hear you. Combustion is great on paper, but the 7 second dot leaves you in a position where you are often unsure if they will die off without another use of combustion. Hesitation, or even using the power again when unnecessary results in a decrease of efficiency.

I've farmed/pl'd quite a bit on my earth/fire and with earth heavily proc'd (-res is quake, dam procs in gases) it isn't "that" slow. But it does require a lot more effort for less results that the top farming builds.

Like I said people will farm with w/e they want, but I seriously doubt you'll see anyone recommending a dom when someone asked "what is the best farm build?" post i15.

I mean whatever, but there will be a good number of /psi doms (including farmers) that have no idea these changes are coming (so few actually read the forums and track the devs, or read patch notes of beta/test). They will get a nasty surprise in their mornign coffee.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I think the effectiveness of Doms as farmers will be lowered once Psi Assault is "rebalanced" but I don't think it'll be a game-ender (people that farm with their Doms will probably continue to do so, though the people that want the absolute best inf/minute will switch to Brutes if they aren't already using them). /MM Blasters do decent at farming despite their version of PSW, though a lot of them are Arch/ and rely on very +rech-heavy builds to spam RoA. I think Doms will be fine but certainly not as good as they are now - I'd be interested on seeing numbers before and after these changes go through.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ya I'm interested too.

/mm blasters use PSW to compliment their aoe damage, whereas /psi doms use it as the cornerstone of their aoe damage.

Touchy, touchy... Your reply makes it clear that your problem is not intent, it's simple ignorance of the English language. Your use of the word "censor" makes no sense. Nor does "zealot".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Censor is the act of silencing or removing content otherwise deemed inappropriate. A zealot is a person extremely motivated to see a cause through to its end. I fail to see how these words are inappropriate.

    [ QUOTE ]
But you then weaseled out of that by saying you weren't making a comparison at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, if we're to get technical, I compared two aspects of three people, all of which they share or are purported to share: influence on their chosen profession, and amorality/"plague to end all plagues". For Jack, the profession happens to be game design. For Hitler and Stalin, it's politics. The point continues to stand. The only comparison here is the perception of amorality on extremely different scales, and the perception of influence.

The comparisons are on an unimaginably different scale, and therefore cannot be construed as a true comparison. They are also not full comparisons, which is the perception I wished to forestall. Unfortunately, due to the inane drivel expressed by you and others, I appear to have failed.

    [ QUOTE ]
Seems better all around to just not make the comparison in the first place, but you did provide a few minutes of entertainment, poking fun of your grammar skills.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree. The point continues to stand. And Jesus, if LivingHellfire is defending me, I know I'm right. I'll say this again: go censor some other poor shmuck. I assure you, I'd match my grammar against yours any day.

PS: I decided to have a looksie at dictionary.com. Here's what they have to say on 'censor'.

    1. an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.

    2. any person who supervises the manners or morality of others.

Note #2. By judging my post as 'tacky' and 'whateverthehellelseyoucalledit', you supervised manners or morality--namely the content of my post. If it weren't for people such as yourself, such 'comparisons' could be made without a tiring debate, and taken in the spirit intended.

  19. qr

unfortunately with the way early game scalars work the dom change of shifting the damage buff out of domination and into the base damage won't have a very large impact on the 1-20 game for a lot of dom players.

It mostly looks like a very solid buff for the 20-40 Solo game. I say solo because doms already have domination up more often in teams and because most teams don't lean on them as damage dealers. Certainly not aoe damage dealers, which is what teams generally want.

The one aoe centric assault set /psi is going to be standardized to fit with the st nature of the other assault sets. This should solidify the AT's playstyle as that of a "blapper", or a "blapper2.0".

Certainly a lot of fun and sometimes even quite effective. Paired up with superior control it should be a very effective playstyle. Though st damage is generally not sought out by teams, so it remains to be seen if and by how much this increases dom popularity.

I look forward to testing the changes and hope that a lot of people try them out as well. A lot of people have to incase they aren't up to snuff and Castle needs to be forced into listening.
  20. This thread has turned in to epic lulz, but I had a good feeling it would

    The way I see it:
Jack has done more in his professional life than I have (and likely all of you, or feel free to link some of the top 20 lists you appear on in your profession). I can hate on him, just as many people hate on pro athletes, or movie stars. Or I can use him as motivation to achieve more with my life.

Whether he is famous or infamous comes down to perspective in this case. Either way he can affect change a lot more than I can.

People are 'abusing' (actually, just 'using') phase much more now because of all the travel suppression and other 'balancing,' not because there's something unbalanced with phase shift. If the PvP playing field hadn't been 'levelled' by dynamiting it, odds are good that phase use would be much less common.

In fact, phase has been nerfed heavily and repeatedly for PvP purposes, including timers on how often you can use it and now the change where you can phase in order to attack a phased target.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. Phase is one of the only things that do work in new pvp. And that is after it has been gutted pretty harshly too.
