  1. ok, here is the build after some modifications. i still have good recharge, recovery, and decent defense to stack with the -to hit debuffs. i ditched the leadership toggles and picked up the hold. i was left with 2 powers with no slots available so i just added on super speed and the self rez. i figure with SS i can use it with shadow fall to zip around undetected. the self rez i just slapped on. i could maybe switch that for stealth or even grant invis for a lotg +rech mule. or i could pick up recall friend.

    sonic/??

    i was considering the sonic/dark combo. my thinking was that i could offer teammates extra res with sonic and the dark's -to hit would be the equivalent of extra defense. that should up the survivability of the team significantly. also, doesn't a -res debuff increase the potency of -dmg debuffs?

    also, that liquefy/blizzard combo sounds most devastating.

    i have a feeling this is gonna be one of those cases that no matter what i pick i'm gonna wish i had taken the other. the ol' "the grass is always greener" scenario :P

    sonic/??

    i was considering making a sonic defender and am trying to decide what secondary to go with. i know the obvious choice is sonic/sonic but as i have a cold/sonic and rad/sonic i play fairly regularly i was hoping to try a different secondary. if anyone with experience could offer some tips i'd appreciate it.

    my main questions are:

    what are people's thoughts on sonic/ defenders?

    what secondaries have a good synergy with sonic/ ?

  4. thanks to everyone who helped me with different build concepts and advice. here is the build i'm going with(mostly, read on). i still need the miracle unique and reactive armors. i'm rethinking the reactive armors after checking their current prices because that's a lot of money for .6% def. i have the cash but i don't think that's a very good value and won't do much for overall performance. might just toss a couple aegis in there.

    i'm really noticing the extra damage from the apoc proc in shriek. i'm loving it. thanks again, nuclear girl. due to all the recharge the purple set provides with hasten and AM up i can just shriek, shriek, shriek enemies to death and watch the proc hit for more and more it's got me wanting to io my lvl 50 sonic/mm blaster who's just collecting dust.

  5. i already have 2 or 3 pieces of the apocalypse set lying around so it's no biggie to grab 2 more. honestly, i have a few billion burning a hole in my virtual pocket (and quite a stash of recipes) which is why i'm trying to update a few toons. no sense in being rich and having a bunch of half-arsed 50's running around.

    i did notice the loss of the ranged def after my last post. now i just have to decide if i mind since i will be gaining a substantial accuracy bonus. or if i stick with basilisk's gaze i need to decide where to use the last slot

    cost isn't a big deal to me. i probably wouldn't buy any of the extremely high priced pvp io's but everything else is fair game. i actually have the decimation set in shriek atm so that's covered. i have at least 2 of the basilisk's gaze and the apoc proc sitting around too so i'm in good shape if i roll with this

    as an added bonus, if i go with decimation in shriek i might be able to swing this in 1 respec avoiding the dreaded multi-respec rebuild!

    EDIT: what if i just went with a 5 piece apoc in shriek and put the 5th slot back on EMP pulse and kept the purple hold set there? that way i wouldn't be losing out on the global accuracy bonus. the plot thickens....

  8. wow. you really broke it down for us. thanks for the thorough explanation.

    i can see how it's skippable for the team build but if i have a dedicated av build should i take it for the times when i could use a boost in to hit? or just rely on the rad toggles to help me get my shots in? i have used it before to ensure lingering rad hits against particularly tough mobs and av's. is this overkill on my part?
  9. well, how do u have it slotted? i take it u meant u have it slotted for immobilze and not hold.

    as far as cost goes i already have the posi's laying around so it isn't a big deal. it's as much for the bonuses as anything. maybe i'll throw the purple immob set in there including the proc.

    the leadership powers are more for me than for teammates in a way. i'm losing 15% global rech if i drop them. but if i were to drop them what would be good to take? assuming i dont take slots from anything else i cant really enh any powers with the few extra slots leadership is using. i'd have to find 1 more slot to be able to 5 slot something in an attempt to reduce the rech lost.

    im not shooting down your suggestions just sharing the reasons behind what might seem like odd choices. i appreciate the advice i just dont know what route i should be taking if i dropped the powers you're advising against.

    While I'm all about Sonic's Res debuff, its actual DPS is bit weak, and you feel that solo, so Amplify is a good investment.

    i took life drain as kind of a back up if twilight grasp missed and i was hurting but it is kind of a lame pick. sometimes i toss these builds up with choices like that just because i don't know where i'm heading yet :/ i'm not sure if i want to trade it for gloom for another ST attack or dark pit for the stun combo. im currently leaning toward gloom since dark already has plenty of control type powers and debuffs. also i remember not caring for dark pit when using it previously but that was quite some time ago.

    oppressive gloom was an afterthought just to use that power pick. will likely trade it for recall friend or something.

    im sticking by my slotting of tentacles for the time being. enhancing the -to hit doesn't seem necessary to me since it should be floored with a fearsome stare, tentacle, night fall cycle. not to mention fluffy's help or really any other power you use for that matter. plus since it's an aoe the extra damage adds up. even more so if the proc fires.

    side note: has anyone tried the chance for hold purple proc in tentacles? did it seem worthwhile?

    being a master of -to hit shouldn't be hard since nearly every power is a debuff. even with half-arsed, i-cant-wait-to-get-to-50 slotting i found dark/dark to be quite capable and fun. mine is on freedom if you ever wanna double up on the fun!

  12. yeah, im considering an alt build just for av soloing. i generally play this toon on teams so i was focusing on that with this build and just curious as to where i stood at the moment. if i do make that alt build i will pick up amplify and switch back to flight.

    by the way, the ranged defense is at 30% since u cant see it.

  13. lol...i figured i was close enough to perma AM and hasten that i'd sacrifice the 5% recharge for a little extra def

    i was considering electric because of some other defender posts i've seen. thanks for the comments. i think im gonna give this a whirl. i already have a lot of the expensive stuff slotted in the current build so that helps...

    btw, do u think it could handle an av if i get stuck in a dark alley with one? :P
  14. another of my update projects.

    i've got my AM and hasten very close to perma and some decent ranged def. i use this toon for tf's and av's/gm's or anything that needs a good debuffin'.

    my questions are can this pack enough punch to solo an av? would a different epic be better for bonuses, survivability, offense?

    i just like to put my potential builds out for any advice i might get before i commit to them.

  15. ive decided i want to update my dark defender and slap some io's in her. this is my first draft. anyone see any glaring mistakes or improvements i should make?

    if possible id like a build that could handle going solo if necessary but is also a strong team player. ive got a lot of inf and loot hoarded so budget isnt a big deal.

  17. the goal here was to stay soft capped after the i17 changes to the BotZ values while trying to squeeze in recharge. i took body mastery to help with end.

    does anyone see any significant improvements i could make or should this do the trick? and does this look like its capable of soloing an av?

    that hami was an accidental slot, i know its not the right one. i forgot to change it before i posted the build.

    im also not into 6 slotting stamina and im going to 3 slot hasten, for some reason i just cant accept only 2 slots :/ . ive also been looking at other threads on this build for ideas. its giving me that indecision anxiety i always get when trying to select the final build...lol.

  21. what do u experienced brutes think of this setup? i've got my brute to 32 already and could hit 50 fairly quickly if i get to it so i'm trying to plan it out.

  22. ive been going thru and coming up with builds for my 50's and its time to get working on my cold/sonic defender.

    this is a build that was looking to get some good ranged defense (37.3% with toggles on) as well as recharge. it looks like it will have good survivability.

  23. update: i got this character up and running and it's really fun. i took one slot from burn and put it into maneuvers and put a lotg in.
    i was having a great time on bm farms running in a unleashing a pbaoe attack chain. i have 70% rech without hasten 140% with, which enables me to keep an irradiate, fire sword circle, combustion combo in effect til they're dead. that is usually only one cycle (excluding bosses) for anything in range especially if used in conjunction wih aim+bu or fulcrum. consume does need to be used pretty often but a good kin reduces the need for it. i like play this toon in an inspiration munching style but make sure to keep a couple green ready for when those boss melee attacks get thru the defense cuz when they do its huge :/

    well, thats my story. if you see a maniacal rad/fire running into mobs haphazardly on freedom server its probably me.

    p.s. i dont have the apocalypse set in cosmic burst yet, im just using entropic chaos until i get them all (for anyone scrutinizing my recharge numbers, if they care)

    couple questions about the suggested builds:
    are any of these capable of soloing an av? ive heard that its possible with a bs/sd.
    on the 4 slotting of performance shifter in stamina, it looks as if slotting that 4th one for the 2.5% recovery bonus actually gives less recovery than if i just used a lvl 50 io. am i wrong in this?
