sword/shield i17 updated

Bronze Knight

the goal here was to stay soft capped after the i17 changes to the BotZ values while trying to squeeze in recharge. i took body mastery to help with end.

does anyone see any significant improvements i could make or should this do the trick? and does this look like its capable of soloing an av?

thanks, all

Can it solo an AV: I'd say yes.

Which AV? Well, that's a real question. Some are worse than others. Myself and others aren't thoroughly versed on what it takes to solo an AV. So you might be waiting a bit longer for an educated answer.

I created almost the exact same post 2 or 3 days ago lol.
Don't worry I got no response either.

BS/SD was my first serious build for an AV killer, and while I haven't re-tweaked her build yet in light of the BotZ changes, there are a few things I'd mention;

1 - Wheres Parry? (At the very least it's better DPS than Slice, and when something, (cimoreans, battle-maiden etc), starts to pile on the defense debuffs you'll NEED it)

2 - the Achilles proc belongs in Hack, for the easy reason because you use that power more on the kind of targets you want to debuff

3 - Obliterations, while perfect for Shield charge, have no place in Headsplitter (which needs better end redux and more recharge than it offers)

4 - likewise makos in Disembowel don't give the power the recharge it deserves

5 - do you really need Hasten? Could you perhaps bring in Maneuvers in it's place? (I'm a huge leadership pool fan, it helps your team, and if you happen onto a team of eight that all have Maneuvers, well, that's almost the softcap right there. It's the same concept that makes Veats so powerful)

Anyway, that's all things I'd ask in the approach.

Oh, and while talking about AV soloing, one of the things I always focus on in mids is "time to go from 0-100% health", you've got a 1min 40 sec there, which is quite good for an SD, but it's a heck of a long time in an AV fight, and given that even when soft capped 5% of there hits will land, you're going to find it dicey, especially if you're using AAO fodder to help your DPS.

VEATs don't also run anywhere from 3 to 5 other toggles while they also run their Tactical Training toggles.

I would caution any melee that does not have access to an endurance recovery tool beyond stamina away from the Leadership pool. The numbers aren't very impressive for scrappers, and the endurance costs are quite heavy when you factor in everything else.

I take Leadership on my support characters, because they generally aren't running other toggles (they also get better values), so this is not something I have against the Leadership pool in particular.

Well I did it I just don't know that much about shield yet so I hope this isn't gimping the set some how.

Toggles aren't the big End killers in the average build, its the attacks that steal blue fastest.
My Crab spider has both the Veat auras AND the leadership picks as well as a few extras. End heavy? Yes, but nothing that wasn't fixed with a bit of good slotting.

And my most heavily toggled scrapper is a Spines/DA, runs 11 toggles (including the leadership pool) he's an AoE monster though, and worth every toggle.

Scrappers can get Body Mastery, which offers both Conserve Power and Physical Perfection.

And at a quick glance, thats the big change I'd make to the build, drop weapon mastery, use the slots (and Gaussians) on Build-up, and bring in both those powers.

And as an attack chain note, Parry is very definitely the kind of attack that needs to be slotted with extra +Dam, especially as this build will need it to stay at the melee def cap, and you don't want that dragging down your DPS.

Oh, and the Achilles Heel procs should go in your single target attacks, anything that you're AoEing shouldn't stand long enough to bother debuffing anyway

This I know how exactly do you think I have overcompensated for my toggles?

Well this build is for a themed toon and it HAS to have Targeting Drone (/em pets Targeting Drone) The only reason I 6 slotted it was for the defense from Gaussians. Also why would I slot the Build up prock in a click power and not a toggle? I read some where that Caltrops was good to put down after Shield Charge, and I only 6 slotted it for that last 1.88 ranged def. I was thinking about dropping Air Superiority/Fly and taking Combat Jumping/Superjump which would free up some slots. However it's the same problem as Weapon Mastery. I'm just going to have to decide weather I want performance or theme.

I do see what your saying here I suppose I could replace that Red Fourten with a makos.

Ok I get that but given the way procks work I'll keep them in the AOE's and add one to Headspliter I know its not the fastest recharging attack but I think I can live with it.
