sonic/??
You know, I have never seen Sonic Resonance coupled with anything but Sonic Blast. Sonic sometime gets a bad rap, because it doesn't Heal; it relies on preventing damage.
Sonic Cage and Sonic Repulsion get no love. Sonic Cage basically causes a foe to become intangible, which annoys teammates. Sonic Repulsion is mean to protect squishies from melee, but is end heavy and not terrible useful.
Despite that, it is a very good set. It's has a different shade of Force Field, and doesn't use unpopular KB.
That said, I think Sonic/Elec would work nice thematically; Thunder and Lightning. Redraw kinda kills synergy with DP, AR and Archery. I could see Sonic/Rad having some potential.
The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

Sonic/Sonic will be the most effective powerset, but then anything/Sonic usually is.
I've really enjoyed Sonic/Energy.
Sonic Resonance is a great team powerset, but provides very little in the way of personal protection. Energy Blast fills that gap nicely - if you've drawn its aggro chances are its on its backside unable to attack.
Dark Blast might be a similar good choice. It adds a defensive edge to you and your team, and allows you to keep enemies inside Liquefy with Tentacles.
Really, though, there aren't any powersets that wouldn't mesh with Sonic Resonance. Its a pretty straightforwards powerset. Keep Dispersion and Disruption Field running, shield your team and apply Sonic Siphon to the big targets. Spen the other 3 1/2 minutes out of every 4 blasting.
The only set that I would say has any synergy with sonic resonance is dual pistols, since the resistance debuffs would increase the power of the damage debuffs. That's an extremely specific use though. I'd say go with a set that you want to be using a lot, since like force fields, sonic has a lot of time to blast.
Unlike mentioned before, I would suggest the redraw power sets. My corruptor (Archery/Sonic) gets to run about and attack between buffs. Also, since it is a toggle heavy set for the best powers of the set (Disruption Field and Sonic Dispersion), DP, AR, and Archery allow for you to go and T9 everything every mob to every other mob.
I have found (which will be more useful for the Sonic Defenders after GR) that Disruption Field does not cause any aggro, which means a Stalker can head up to the boss, debuffing the entire mob while you're doing the animation for RoA. Click a target in the center of the mob and click Exploding Arrow (which should have Forced Feedback +Rech IO in it). Exploding Arrow will go off before the three ticks of RoA can kill everyone giving you basically 4 ticks and a 10% chance (per target of a mob) for a short duration massive recharge increase, thus bringing RoA up faster and allowing you to do this combo again. The stalker while you're doing all this animation is up next to the heavy hitter and doing their animation for AS, giving your RoA, Exploding Arrow, and their AS a -30% resistance debuff. Suddenly, everything is dead.
Note: If you take something like Dark Mastery, the exploding arrow strategy will greatly increase your recharge of Dark Consumption (Sonic Res is an endurance hog), Soul Drain (dmg buff to you while your melee friend is lowing their res for even greater dmg), and Soul Transfer if you somehow manage to die a lot. You can apply this concept to other slow recharge epic pool powers (mostly power and hey look! Conserve Power and Force of Nature) and liquefy (since the long recharge is one the major complaints about Sonic's T9).
However, AR and DP has a lot of similar tricks. Sure you'll have to redraw every so often after buffing, but really the only two reasons after buffs and toggles applied that you should need to redraw is Sonic Siphon (which is T1 so you'll be used to that recharge quickly) and Liquefy (Which has a long recharge so it won't be a problem often). Sonic Cage has its uses, especially solo, but *shrugs* on team you won't use it often. I just like the prospect of T9ing every mob.

I've seen a great Sonic/Dark in action. Frankenslotted to get the most tohit debuff, dam and acc into his attacks. Made a good combination since whatever managed to hit us was resisted by the sonic shields.
Sonic/Ice was pretty good as well. The one I used to team with always dropped Liquefy then Blizzard whenever they could, so as to keep things from running out of it.
I think Dual Pistols would be interesting. You could either
a) Combine -DMG with +RES to further decrease the damage your team takes
b) Stack -Res with -Res to increase your team's damage
You could choose, on demand, whether your team needs more protection (a) or just wants to go faster (b).
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
i was considering the sonic/dark combo. my thinking was that i could offer teammates extra res with sonic and the dark's -to hit would be the equivalent of extra defense. that should up the survivability of the team significantly. also, doesn't a -res debuff increase the potency of -dmg debuffs?
also, that liquefy/blizzard combo sounds most devastating.
i have a feeling this is gonna be one of those cases that no matter what i pick i'm gonna wish i had taken the other. the ol' "the grass is always greener" scenario :P
I would also cheer in on the /Dark. Sonic dampens damage and Dark debuffs. Good combo.
DP may be an interesting secondary as well.

i was considering making a sonic defender and am trying to decide what secondary to go with. i know the obvious choice is sonic/sonic but as i have a cold/sonic and rad/sonic i play fairly regularly i was hoping to try a different secondary. if anyone with experience could offer some tips i'd appreciate it.
my main questions are:
what are people's thoughts on sonic/ defenders?
what secondaries have a good synergy with sonic/ ?
thanks in advance
