The Incredibles did it by going the extra mile with the story.

Every movie can't revolutionize the genre, but they can let off a firecracker or two. Tron Legacy just seemed very "by the numbers". I think perhaps they were resting on the visuals too much. With something as unique looking as Tron, that's certainly a temptation, but it still only goes so far.
Except that Tron is all about the visuals. That's what made the original stand out. If you take a Tron movie and focus on something other than visuals, it's not Tron anymore. And it's also a Disney movie, first and foremost.

They never said it was for the most skilled players. It's supposed to be a challenge for a level 50. Having a level 50 or three on your roster assumes that you've played them enough to, you know, understand the ins and outs of the powersets and are competent.

The majority of the playerbase has at least one 50, and everyone is planning on having one at some point if they don't already, so yes, this content is designed with everyone in mind.

Time to step off your high horse and admit that you're not as good as you think you are. Perhaps you'll gain more sympathy (which is what you're shooting for) that way. "Learn to play" applies. If the hundreds of instances of random PUGs, themed teams (all Blaster, all control, all melee) that have not only completed, but stormed through the content you're complaining about doesn't convince you, nothing will. Instead of dismissing them, perhaps you'd be better served learning from them. They wouldn't offer their experience if they didn't want to help you, if only because one day they might have to team with you.
  3. I think the lack of news about future content is starting to get people antsy and desperate to present new info.

Are we gonna talk about a font change next?

There will be a massive increase in the total inf. in the game, which would result in a general increase in item prices across the board. This, in the end, would hurt everyone, and the new players the most.

I'm no economist, but that's just my theory. I'd happily like to be proven that my prediction is wrong for some logical reasons.
If all you ever do is buy buy buy and never sell sell sell, it might hurt you if prices continue to go up, but I'd wager the vast majority of players are both buying and selling their drops, which tends to even out the disparity. Since you have control over how much you're bidding, you'll come out ahead more times than not, since you can post things for low numbers and generally get big profits from the IWANTITNAO crowd that overbids.

Control of high priced items is always, and will always be, in the hands of those paying the influence, not the sellers.

    2010 Shout outs!

Christmas marks my 5 year vet status (just got the badge Christmas Eve ), and I just want to say that Champion and the people that have come and gone and come back again, and the ones that have stuck it out are the big reason I keep playing.

I might not be part of any of your SGs, but you guys make me feel like I am.
  6. Do you use Firefox?

I used to use IE, but these new forums took FOREVER to load anything so I switched when I noticed they load way faster on Firefox. Still slows down sometimes lately, but generally no problems outside of getting logged off.

You're right, Dur. Looking back at your responses, I see that you avoided it and just said "It just doesn't."

Still don't believe you, so I'll end the argument by quoting NinjaPirate:

I can't concieve why someone would want spoilers anyway, but I know some people just want to have the false sense of "knowing" that it can provide. Maybe you have no interest to see a movie but wanted to know what happens. Maybe you're somoene who doesn't like surprises. Maybe it comes from a sense of needing to be "in control" of everything. Like the way you try to deride arguments or omit other peoples points when they don't suit your weak defense.

But if you're someone who can turn the blind eye on all the blaring plot holes in the last 6 seasons of Smallville, then you should be able to see why others aren't nit-picking at minor details in this movie. Sure, you've decided to call them mountains instead of mole hills, but plenty of people have pointed out reasonings and the what-nots to derail them from being so big of a deal. There's no need to be condescending if we still choose to see the story as stronger than you want to believe.
This, Durakken. You spent a lot of effort and time trying to convince us that the movie was bad on its face, without seeing it first, which is what we've been calling you out for. Now that you've seen it, you're still trying to say the movie is horrible because of X,Y, and Z (never mind that the vast majority of posters here liked it and either didn't see the same problems or they didn't affect us as much) when all you really need to say is that you personally didn't care for it, and move on.

And I call BS on your explanation of not being affected by reviews before watching a movie. You can't possibly watch a review and then shut that review out of your mind while watching the movie. Just like you can't not think about a spoon when I tell you to think of a spoon.
  9. Serious question for Durakken (or anyone, really, but it applies the most to him in this thread):

Would your opinion of this movie after seeing it still be what it is if you hadn't gone and poisoned your mind with negative reviews of it? You went into it expecting something bad because of what you read/watched on the internet, and then got exactly what you were looking for. What if you had avoided spoilers and just watched the movie with a fresh mind about it? Why would you, or anyone, sabotage any potential enjoyment from watching a movie by learning all you could about it beforehand (especially by watching reviews, which are usually slanted by personal bias)?

Now, my view of this is that you (Durakken) have such a narrow window of what qualifies as "good" (based on other comments you've made in the past about all manner of things) that you wouldn't have liked this movie regardless, but you certainly didn't give it a chance by filling your head with negativity before hand. Am I incorrect?

Basing an opinion on a review done by someone else is like a book reviewer doing a review on the Cliff Notes version. "It was decent enough, but it was very light on plot exposition and character development." Yes, you moron, it was the highlights. If you want more, read the entire book.

Why wouldn't they just show up at the survivor's camp (in rugged make-up if they prefer) and announce that the island is theirs, but they'll help the Oceanics build a raft and pointed in the right direction. It's not like they'd ever be able to find the island again anyway, what with it moving around and everything.
Ben and the Others were interested in finding out who the passengers were, because they know that the Island brings special people to it. Ben needed to know if any of them were extra special, or if any of them were associates of Widmore, whom he knew was trying to find the Island again. In order to find info, they had to be more subtle than just showing up and forcing them off the Island, at least until the Losties started poking around and stumbling upon some of their secrets. There is also evidence that Ben operated outside of what the Island wanted. And there is a way to get back to the Island after leaving (Ben does it all the time). Who's to say someone else couldn't figure it out?
  12. Rampant speculation and conjecture! Woooooo! Everyone go crazy!

Unless you're getting paid by Paragon Studios or NCSoft, you have no idea why people aren't posting so much, other than the fact that some of the more vocal have moved on. Nakayama usually posts when he's on his own time, judging by the majority of his postings' time stamps, so perhaps he's got less of that at the moment.

I think the idea of posting something relevant when it's called for is a good idea, and when the leashes come off of those who aren't department heads yet, we'll see different names posting more often. War Witch is too chatty and personable to let the silence go for too long. Her State of the Game will be coming after the Winter Event, most likely, if not by the game Anniversary, which is when it usually happens. I wouldn't worry about a lack of fluff posts. I'd worry more about a lack of informative posts about future content.
  13. Good luck, Castle, on your future in the gaming industry. Your dedication to this little corner of the universe is appreciated more than you know. I trust that you leave the Powers division in good hands.

Take a well-deserved vacation, and here's to what you've got coming next.

The plot is the basic story that is laid out with major details such as what the **** does x do and why it is needed to do something.

The Premise is great... however, it's not this creative team's premise so you can't count that. And the basic idea of "lets go see what happened in this world!" isn't really a novel idea.

The story itself is full of holes from what I understand and more or less dismisses the premise to be more of an action flick with babble put in to sound smart, but fails to miss out on everything that the original was trying to do and both in my opinion fails to live up to the great premise that is there is this digital world where the programs you load are manifested as actual people.

Whether the effects are great or not I have no idea, but from what I hear the effects were garbage and this I really must wonder about because they aren't doing anything revolutionary in the film or even slightly new for most if not all of the movie... and CLU didn't need to be a younger version... so if it was even average i'd have to say it failed in terms of graphics.

Of course there are also people saying that the graphics weren't used the same way... and I gotta say if what i heard was true of how the bike and frisbee scene were...then the movie did a complete disservice to the original concepts those things were going for and I would go so far as to say the writer or director, whoever did that, had no understanding of the original and shouldn't have been involved with the movie if they had the power to get that in there.
Again, Durakken, you speak without knowing for yourself.

Go watch the movie, and then you can talk intelligently about it. Or don't watch, and just point to the reviews you're basing your opinions on.

Disney shouldn't have used the CGI model in the "real" world scene. If they hadn't done that, this argument would have been valid and the movie could have even played on the point as a part of the plot.

Better still, they could have just had some other character instead of CLU who didn't need a CGI face. That would have improved the movie for me quite a lot.
Not having CLU would have changed the whole story, and would have taken much of the motivation away from Flynn to fix what he broke.
  16. What would be the point of knowing everything if you had no time to act on it? (Never mind that the concept of actually knowing everything there is to know is just a pipedream. It would be like being able to count to infinity.)

Doesn't really seem like much of a choice.

You're also trying to separate knowledge from experience. The older you get, the more you realize that experience IS knowledge.

They are zone-specific, but the range is pretty big in the higher zones. Lvl 40's running around in PI, for example, are gonna get slaughtered by a lvl 50's spawns that they left behind, especially if they contain bosses.
  19. FYI:

Just because you don't agree with their reasons for doing so doesn't mean they're wrong, and it doesn't give you the right to go off on them. You KNOW it's gonna happen, cause it does every year (and during the Halloween event as well, which is worse), so spending time kvetching about it just brings you down to their level.

Expecting everyone else to play the same way you play, and feel the same sense of moral obligation to other players you do is just gonna make you go crazy.

Some things in the "game" world just look to mundane.
There's your problem right there. They're not in a game world, like the original movie. Flynn said it during the exposition when he finally met with his son. He took Tron out of the game world and copied him over to this place, to help them build a new place. It had games in it, yes, but it's not a game program.
  21. Overall, I liked it. It's Tron.

Pacing seemed a bit slow at times. I was expecting more action than I got, but what was there was good.

Could have used more humor, like the original had.

Story was fine, but they could have done so much more with it. Some things were just handwaved or barely touched.

It's not really about security for most people. It's more about staying logged in and not losing your place on the server when the load makes the queue kick in. Before, you either stayed on the character you got in with the whole day, or you got out and stood in line. Now you (theoretically) shouldn't have to if you want to change characters.
