That's what we call "working yourself out of a job". I've actually done that in real life. I was so good at my job and I worked so hard at it that they laid me off because there was no more work to do that couldn't be done with a smaller staff. I know for a fact that *I* caused this, because for the last month or so I would have very little to do at work because there wasn't enough work in my department for 3 people anymore.
So they cut me, because I'd done TOO much work. -
Awesome idea Biospark, you've inspired me.
I WAS going to work on a Warshade for my next project after getting my Fire/Regen scrapper to 50, but playing the Warshade something felt lacking, I don't know what.
Empathy is usually considered the worst to solo and the "best" to team with, as almost all their powers are team based.
Sonic and FF are usually counted as the next "worst" as having the next most number of team based powers.
So guess what? The Philotic Knight officially "died" on Protector when I made my "Death of PK" story arc, but your thread and posts have inspired me to remake him again as level 1 on Justice, the FIRST server where he turned 50 before I deleted him.
And I will solo him. Without the Vet powers.
With Force Bolt up my sleeve, I think this will be even EASIER than when I tried to solo blasters. Slower, yes, but easier. So thanks Biospark for giving me another excuse to bring PK back again. -
Quote:As I understand it, each proc is a percentage chance. And the rolls are made independantly - if you had three procs with a 10% chance to fire, each one will fire (on average) once every ten attacks. (For AoEs, I believe most actually roll when they hit a target, but I could be mistaken.) In any case, it *is* possible for all of them to fire at once. I don't have time for all the math involved, but if you had three procs, any combination of them has a chance to occur. (No proc, at least one proc, any two procs, all three procs.)
However, since most procs fire less than once every three attacks, you'd be losing damage compared to simply slotting the set pieces that boost accuracy, damage, and recharge. From playing around with Mids Hero Builder, adding a proc to an attack effectively adds the equivalent of about 14 damage to each attack. (If the proc added 140 damage, but only fires on average once every ten attacks, 140 / 10 = 14.) If the attack does any real damage to begin with (ie, we're not talking about Gale or similar attacks) then it doesn't take much effort to find an IO that will add more damage to each attack than a proc.
Personally, I take procs to finish getting the bonuses for a set, or in a few cases where the effect is useful when combined with powers I already have. (I'll take sets with a Chance for Hold on my controllers, because adding even a short hold to an attack can be useful for dealing with a Boss or Elite Boss.)
Best answer I've seen in this thread. -
I get those so often, it's not even funny. Some people are just lazy.

Anyone go all the way... 09-12-2009 09:09 AM noone cares if you're entertained
Looking at my past rep comments, at least SOME people care... and looking at the fact that your vote can't affect my rep... apparently no one cares what YOU think!

I'm Turning My Rep Off 09-05-2009 02:27 AM The correct concise version would be "Anonymity cultivates idiocy". This explains much of your behavior!
So shouldn't I get positive rep for being correct and accurate instead of negative? This confuses me, I don't get it.
Forum Reputation 09-05-2009 01:31 AM +1 rep to counter any bad rep from this thread. Neener neener neener.

Yes.
I love these question threads that can be answered with one word that turn into much longer threads. It entertains me. -

Count me in the crowd that focused primarily on defending, and blasting only when the team was doing well.
-
Quote:Yup.
Of course, this is just my uninformed view on the situation, and I'm sure the standard code rant applies. -
Yeah, it looks like the GMs just don't have access to alter that part of a character, otherwise I'm sure they would. Which just means the tech isn't there... yet.
I'd say you should request this in the Suggestions and Ideas section, they seem to be paying more attention to that section than they did in the past with the extra time and money they seem to have now. -
Regen can revive and then hit MoG and Dull Pain right away, and then trash everything around them with their primary... I've done it many times on my Fire/Regen.
-
Being the person that negative repped you for your defenders = healers comments (and I did comment on as to why I negged you), I do not apologize for it, because that was an ignorant thing to say, especially around these parts.
However, listen to these words well:
Quote:Truth lies here, and I'm living proof. As idiotic and stupid as half of my posts are, apparently the other half are worth enough to balance it out, because well over half of my rep votes are negative, yet I still sit high on the pony.If all your posts are as complete and polite as those in this thread, any negative rep you get in the future will just be lost in the sea of positive comments.
I suspect that the rep system is designed intentionally so that positive rep has more effect on your rep score than negative rep. Either way, you take the punches as they come in.... just try to make less silly comments like that in the future and you'll do fine. -
Yeah, I think that the Warshade will definitely be my next project, right after I take this guy over to the Storm Palace and see how well he does solo vs. the Ring of Death....
-
Next I'm thinking of giving Warshades a serious try... I got one up to level 35 before and loved it, but I think I'd rather start over again rather than pick up that one after so many months.

In my 5+ years here, I have brought The Philotic Knight to level 50 at LEAST 4 times, possibly more that I forgot:
- On Justice - my first server, brought him to 50 in about a year then got bored with HAVING a level 50 so I transferred him over to Test, deleted him and remade him as level 1 on Freedom. Which brings me to....
- Freedom - at lest to 50 once here, perhaps twice, I don't remember if I did the delete job on him on this server, I might have, then I was drawn over to....
- Protector - The Little Server That Could invited me over, brought PK to 50 there, and then voted me off the island.
However, after four years on Freedom, Protector DID remind me of the joys of living on a "low population" server, which led me back to...
- Justice again - back to "home sweet home", but this time I had other plans.....
The Philotic Knight drew main inspiration from my love of Orson Scott Card's works and Mister Fantastic's intelligence and optimism.... he ended up being my "avatar" in more ways than one... the idealized version of myself if I was "perfect" and had superpowers.
So how about an anti-hero inspired by the "gritty" period of comics in the 90s? So I came up with....
Westley stole my name to become my newest avatar and drew inspiration from my anti-heroes: bikers, John Constantine, and Chakan the Forever Man. His basic bio steals much from those sources:
Thus he stole his "history" from Chakan, his attitude and training from Constantine, and his dress from my love of biker culture, mixed with some magic by way of the Magic Pack's costumes.
PK was an FF/Elec Defender, who focused purely on team's defense and protection by nature. I wanted an opposite to that, so I picked pure offense and survivability, Fire/Regen Scrapper. He originally started as a Fire/WP Tanker, but playing a tanker made me play like a Defender, focusing on keeping the team alive. After about 30 levels of this, it just wasn't a different enough feel, so I remade him as a Fire/Regen scrapper, both for concept reasons Regen made more sense than Willpower, and for gameplay reasons being a Scrapper helped me to disassociate myself from my Defender heritage and play AS a damage dealer.
So anyways, I am really proud that today, at 8:15 PM Mountain time, I finally after 5 years got a level 50 that was NOT The Philotic Knight. And for me, that's a big deal and was a huge mental hurdle, especially to disassociate myself from the PK character's identity for long enough to play another character to 50.
Unfortunately I was too slow to catch the level up animation, but here is my "victory screenshot":
So that's that, a bit of a vanity post, I just felt the need to get that short story about my latest in-game endeavor out there. Let the flames and jokes commence!

Wait, there was a lottery? Does that mean I win?

You want a build that you can solo easily, but that has a heal in case you WANT to team? Kinetics/Sonic. The heal is enemy targeted and will benefit you solo as well, and tons of self-buffs to increase your abilities solo and teams will still love you. You don't even have to take a travel power if you don't want to.
Oh, and this:
Quote:Yeah, good luck with that *grabs some nachos and takes a seat*I just know defenders=healers. -
-
I'm on a scrapper.... besides, I don't give a damn about purples or sets even. I'm just fine with my common IOs.
-
If you contact customer support, they should be able to fix that for you. They are pretty good at fulfilling most customer requests as long as they are not unreasonable or game breaking. You just don't hear about it because people only generally talk about things that have gone WRONG (like you picking the wrong pet) instead of things that have gone RIGHT. It's human nature.

Adventures in Backwards Marketeering - Finale
So, after a few other little moments of playing around that aren't worth detailing, I was left with 218 million influence from my adventures. Considering that I started my adventures with roughly 300 million, and I was TRYING to lose money, I think I did horribly! I can't believe I have so much money left!
So, I figured, "what the hay, let's go after the big fish in the pond, why not?" My target? The infamous....
So, what will I do with this most well known of common salvage mishaps? Well, I've decided to blow all my money away (reasonably) buying up all the stock I can and selling them for 1 influence each, thus letting the people that want to buy them, buy them for cheaper than what people are trying to sell them for!
I will once again become....
The Facilitator!
I should really make that into a character sometime, hmmm...
Anyways, so let's take a look at the Before screenshot, both of my influence store and the stock of Luck Charms:
218 million vs. 500 Luck Charms? Should be pretty simple, no?
Well, doing my incremental purchases, let's see what we've got for sale:
Luck Charms Bought For:
Code:Hmmm..... 100K seems to be one of the "magic numbers" that a lot of people like to use. But I've got plenty of money, let's keep going!80K 1 90K 0 100K 55
Code:125K 6 150K 410
Let's see how high I can go before I run out of money, shall I?
Code:200K 13
Code:1 mil 5 2 mil 5 3 mil 10 (but not 11!) 4 mil 0 5 mil 12 (but not 13) 6 mil (none)
So, in the end, it looks like the hugest bulk of them were being sold for 150K... interesting. If you chart this, I think you'd see a normal bell curve, just looking at the numbers.
Well, let's see what people want to BUY them for!
So I put them all up for sale for 1 influence each, and here's the result:
Sold For:
Code:40K 220 35,555 309
Any of you want to fess up, you eeeeebil marketeers you?
Anyways, so I've done what I can, and here is the final result, call it the After picture:
Down to 60 mil, and I've "facilitated" the flushing out of 500-ish Luck Charms out of the market. I gave the buyers what they wanted, and the sellers what THEY wanted. AND, most importantly, I got what I wanted, the chance to blow money and have fun doing it.
So that's the end of my Adventures in Backwards Marketeering, now I'm just a poor bloke just like everyone else, and man does it feel GOOD!

There are no official calendars anymore...yet.
Fellow forumite Mateo however has been making some pretty cool ones each month though, take a look here, they're pretty snazzy.
Check his signature for the latest ones. -
Quote:The moral of this story is that if you list common salvage for a truly ludicrous price, somebody will still eventually buy it for sheer novelty.
That's basically what this whole thread comes down to - novelty. Or what happens when a dude with WAY too much time on his hands and WAY too much money for his own good decided to try to alleviate his boredom.
I've already had one person send me a tell describing in detail how I can and should "stick it to the ebil marketeers".
That's not really what I'm trying to do here. I'm just bored and want to see just how much I can "mess with things" before I run out of money. To see basically just how much influence over the market that one wacky person can have.
My next project I predict will be an utter failure, because I'm going after a big shark in the water where previously I was only playing with the little fish. I predict that I will have virtually no impact whatsoever, and I will find out whether this is true or not very quickly.
