I selected the wrong pet.. (Veteran Reward changes?)

Bystander

I recently came back to playing City of Heroes after about 6 months off and was loading up one of my alts with their Veteran Rewards.

I got to the 48 Month reward where you get to select a pet that has buffs for you (You know, Fae, Wisp, Oscillator or Drone?) and, forgetting how disturbing the fae selections looked, selected the "Light Fae" pet.

Good gods, why didn't I select the Wiisp?

That said, I posted a question in Support saying that I wanted to see if this could be reset or changed and the GM said there was no way to to this.

Am I the ONLY one to be unhappy with a veteran reward selection after all this time?..

Did I possibly miss a change or post in the past few months that mention allowing users to change the selection? Ultimately, the pets do the same thing, albeit one of TWO different things. Why not allow a change of the appearance?

Sorry if, by chance, someone has posted this before, but I wanted to explain the situation.

Thanks.

If you contact customer support, they should be able to fix that for you. They are pretty good at fulfilling most customer requests as long as they are not unreasonable or game breaking. You just don't hear about it because people only generally talk about things that have gone WRONG (like you picking the wrong pet) instead of things that have gone RIGHT. It's human nature.

The only worse than that is misclicking on the vet powers at 12 (Sands vs Axe) or 33 (Nemesis Staff vs Blackwand).

I wish we could respec change them.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Oddly enough, after I received this reply to my support question:

As you are aware, the Development Team is in charge of planning and implementing the design of the game. If you would like to alert them to your thoughts on being able to trade out these rewards, we would encourage you to express them on the forums, where they can view your feedback first hand. The Development Team does read the forums regularly and many changes to the game have come directly from feedback of the players.

You can reach the City of Heroes or City of Villains message boards at http://boards.cityofheroes.com or http://boards.cityofvillains.com. Thank you for your cooperation."
and I replied saying, "Well bummer, I guess I will go post on the forums.."

I got another update to the question, stating this:

So who knows.. I guess I will find out, eventually. ;-)

Hopefully Support won't mind if I post their success if they are able to fix that for me. ;-)

You ought to qualify for this.

They might, but I was just using my Blackwand with the bonus damage for being Magic origin? It's quite the nice extra damage when it hits..

Still nice to have the extra weapon, but would probably have been nicer to have chosen the right origin weapon, initially. ;-)P

Agreed...

Even if it was a one-time only or a yearly thing (or even a future veteran reward), a respec of bonus powers/pets would be cool. Would allow people who are preferential to certain alts change their look or just freshen up the character a bit (much like the free respecs and tailor sessions).

They're not exactly easy on the default hero background either.

It was a direct copy and paste out of the wiki. I was too lazy to fiddle with the colors.

So...

The latest update is entertaining, if not less than helpful...

Another GM posted this after the guy who escalated the issue to a "Senior Customer Representative"

I'm like.. um.. so.. why did the other guy?....

And my latest reply is:

AFTER the first GM had already said the same thing...

Is everyone educated on what can and can't be done there?. :-P

So far I have two "No" and 1 "Maybe"? What is the "Final Answer"?...

Thanks.
Am I being too harsh on them? Is it rough for all GM's to have the same bucket of knowledge to draw from on what can and can't be done?

(Least of which the guy who escalated the issue who got my hopes up.. :-(P ).

Anyway, I'll let you all know what the "Final Answer" I get is...

Good luck to us all and remember, if you are tired and/or its late at night, don't ever make any game or life changing decision.. :-)P

So.... I guess if a developer would like a pet project (pun unintentionally added, but left as intentional for amusement sake), perhaps someone could update the Veteran Reward Selection?

Or at least the humble pet selections?

Please?...

Yeah, it looks like the GMs just don't have access to alter that part of a character, otherwise I'm sure they would. Which just means the tech isn't there... yet.

I'd say you should request this in the Suggestions and Ideas section, they seem to be paying more attention to that section than they did in the past with the extra time and money they seem to have now.

You know, for them to say they can't do it seems most illogical. They are tech support, they should have access to everything game-wise. They should have /admin commands that can change anything. If they can get enemies un-stuck, auto-complete missions, and give you any bugged badges with a single command, there HAS to be a /give_[player]_[power] command.

Of course, this is just my uninformed view on the situation, and I'm sure the standard code rant applies. But with games where I was the admin (Being a server host in multi-player) there was a command for everything. Someone should go post this in the suggestions forum. I would, except I'm too lazy to do it. =P

Arc ID: 348998 - Becoming a villain
Arc ID: 373341 - To Save a Hero

Got Inf?

That's probably not a bad idea. I might have to do that..

You would think that, but sometimes the developers put something together and the Product team or the Project Mamager overlooks something like that and voilah, instant non-access.

In this case, I MAY be the only one to have complained about it, recently or at all.

Small chance cases, when left alone, end up "legacied" (as you may well know) and put at the bottom of the list of new developments.

In my case, I am a QA Manager for my Sotware Development company and have seen this happen in this and lots of other companies previously, too.

C'est la ..um.. Programme'?
