for these uber vets, i have 3 question! what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now? whats your favourite build?
I joined up shortly before i4. My vets rewards are a bit behind because of a couple of breaks I took from the game, but I did get the 48 month badge early this month.

I started with an Energy/Energy Blaster. I didn't touch another toon until she was 50. My Warshade was the second toon I rolled...about 4 months later.

Since then I've got one of every hero AT to 50, including both Kheldians. I have a second 50 tank, the first is Stone, the second Shield. On the villainside I have a 50 dom, a 50 widow and two 50 stalkers, one Energy/Nin, the other Elec/Regen.

Almost all of my characters are on Justice. I have something like 33 toons on that server.

I still play my original Energy/Energy blaster from time to time. I spent like 6 respecs shifting her from a build with over 40 Hami Os to a build of mostly lvl 50 Invention Sets (no purples), so she's very tough for a blaster and does more damage than she did back in the day.

Mostly though, I will focus on one toon til I get bored or frustrated or get to 50, and then switch to a new one.

It's really hard to pin down a Favorite build.

I can say that heroside I enjoy Controllers the Least, because they have too many things to do and are not very soloable, mostly. Tanks and defs are sometimes weak soloists as well, but at least aren't an exercise in micromanagement. There are notable exceptions.

Villainside I don't like Masterminds that much because of, again, the micromanagement aspect. I also find Corruptors harder to get into than Defenders, I'm not really sure why. Brutes are kind of the same, I want to have a Brute I like, and I have a 37 Mace/Willpower, but the Fury playstyle doesn't really appeal to me. I like Dominators a lot, and Stalkers, since they both can play fairly strategically.

I can say that I think Knockback is the most misunderstood, most fun mechanic in the game. I Love the Storm Summoning set, so much that I have a Storm Summoner of every possible AT. 50 Storm/Elec Def, 50 Illusion/Storm Controller, and still young a 27 Bots/Storm MM and 22 Fire/Storm Corruptor.

    Recently I've been playing a Dark/Sonic Defender, an Ice/Elec Blaster and a Dark/Willpower Stalker.
  2. You can survive on AoE. But I encourage getting Hasten early. Barb Swipe is one of the very worst powers in the whole game.

People think Gale sucks (I love Gale personally), but Barb Swipe makes Gale look like a giant red WIN button.

Hmm... If only I could actually come up with a concept for a spines/fire scrapper... (or the incentive to get back into my mace tank as the other posts are making it sound pretty sweet, she's just playing too slow in the low levels to get my attention.)

Yeah, I wouldn't use Super Strength for this particular character, as you'll have to wait til 32 to actually do any AoE at all.

Spines probably is your best choice, although Electric is a close second, and probably pulls ahead against certain types of enemies.

However, I also think that the Best AoE toons are ALL ranged characters, with the exception of the (nerfnerfnerfnerfnerfnerf) Fire/Kin.

Actually, in retrospect, if you REALLY want the best AoE Melee toon, you should make a Fire/Kin/Psi Controller. :P

    j/k

    sort of
  4. I agree with Leo. This only matters to concept players if they consider the combat log part of their concept. It would be an absolute nightmare to balance, as if the existing game has been such a walk in the park.

All we need is more options for auras, and the ability to attach them to weapons, shields, etc (and giving out the Fire/Ice/Stone/etc weapon options as costume pieces is a cool idea too).

Groups are impossible to get and literally my enjoyment factor of the game is lost since there is barely anyone to play with. Account Canceled... Been fun teaming w\ everyone who played Guardian.. Good luck those who stick around.

As far as I can tell, there are about the same number of people playing as there were a month ago, they've just spread out.

Certainly no justification for this kind of doomcrying.

    LOL

Have you actually tried Champions yet?

It's not even Beta quality yet. It's so unfinished it's a joke. That's what happens when you let Marketing dictate your release date.

That means players can't argue that one little detail is off so technically they aren't violating the rules.

I believe what Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said about pornography can easily be applied here as well:

I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [Copyright/Trademark violations]; and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it.
I agree with you IN THIS CASE, because copyright/trademark violation is a matter of fact. What is porn is opinion. Not a very strong legal statement on Stewart's part.

iirc it was a pvp change before mez protection was changed to resistance in pvp. since it's all resistance now, does mag even matter in pvp?
  11. Earth and Elec do similar DPS in their single target chains...in a manner of speaking.

For Earth to come close to Elec, it must have Seismic Smash which unlocks at 28.

However, Earth is then close to Elec...without BU, but Elec has it's whole chain at 10 and BU at 16.

I can't think of a good reason to play the set other than liking the look of it or having a concept that it perfectly fits.
  12. There are enemies we can't mez. Those enemies we have to beat down as fast as possible. Gaps in our attack chains make that more difficult.

I think that's the simplest reason why we want to be able to create seamless attack chains.
  13. I don't have enough negative rep, I would like more please.

I appreciate everyone's assistance in this matter!

If it gets low enough I'll display it again.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I thought about putting it in player questions, but that didn't seem quite right...
  14. I just wish there were more than 2 sets with powers like Parry.

That's correct. Defs can probably outdamage most Doms at range Regardless of buffs and debuffs. In other words: even an Empath can outdamage Doms at range.

EDIT: Which, let me clarify, is I think basically fine. I don't really have a problem with that. My issue is that Earth Assault appears to be basically no Fun to play until 28 (this is based on my testing and analysis, not analysis alone). That used to be the case with Psi Assault and it got changed quite a bit.
  16. Stone Spears, Hurl Boulder and Tremor all throw the edge completely away.

Additionally, the Mallets are not very good compared to other Dom sets melee attacks.

This set seems to have been thrown together from exisiting powers, never properly rebalanced and now is being allowed to exist with Seismic Smash completely carrying the set.

I consider that to place the set firmly in the Unfinished category.
  17. Somebody decided to comment in my rep that my post saying it probably won't out DPS all Defenders was pointless. (Whose brilliant idea was it to have an anonymous comment system that evades the existing comment system?)

Well, I checked. Stone Spears is worse than most Defender level 1 attacks. It's almost identical (in Damage Per Activation time) to Mental Blast, Snap Shot, and Neutrino Bolt (all of which recharge considerably faster than SS). It is considerably worse than all other level 1 Defender blasts. Similarly, Hurl Boulder is amazingly terrible.

Sure the set as a whole will out DPS a Def, by going to melee. At range the Def will own you.

The Def will find it far easier of course to put together an actual seamless attack chain, will be able to do so at range, and will often have buffs or debuffs improving the output of the chain.

The Dom will out DPS the Def...at level 28 when Seismic Smash opens up.

Recharge has no effect on DPS, again. Your Power 1 does 30 damage in .5 seconds, it is therefore a 60 DPS attack. DPS is not a calculation of how much damage an attack actually does during a second, it is an average of how much damage is done in a second of using that attack. If the attack takes only half a second then the DPS of the attack is TWICE its actual damage.

Ingame DPS is referred to (stupidly) as Damage Per Animation Time. This is very easy to check. Go look at the Damage Per Animation Time of Shadow Punch. The attack activates in less than a second and therefore its Damage Per Activation Time is GREATER than its actual damage.

Electric's actual Blasts (teir 1 and 2) are identical to those in other sets with the same recharge.
If you look at total animation time versus total damage output Voltaic Sentinel does INCREDIBLE DPS (Damage Per Second of casting time). Seriously, the power takes about 3 times as long to animate as Charged Bolts, but has the potential to do like 15 times as much damage. It's a very good power.

    1. Dom doesn't any longer (if it ever did) effect knockback.

    2. Dom does not effect Seismic Smash (yet).

It will almost invariably rank any tier 1 attack as the best in the set. It makes old Flares (with the behemoth animation) come out well ahead of Blaze.

As soon as you have enough powers or enough recharge to come anywhere close to a full attack chain, animation time trumps everything. Geko didn't ever really figure that out, which is one reason the powers system was (and in some ways still is) such a mess.
This is absolutely correct and is why it boggles my mind that anyone talks about Damage per Cycle, or uses DPS to mean Damage per Second of time til the attack is ready again. They are essentially useless statistics.

The only relevant statistic is what Arcanaville calls DPS, and what most games call DPS, which is Damage Per Second OF ANIMATION TIME.

Earth Assault sucks because the animations are long and the attacks don't do enough damage. The recharge is really irrelevant. As the above poster states, once you have a complete chain, all that matters is animation time.

The only time when recharge is a relevant statistic is at the low levels when you still have significant gaps in your chain.
  23. Here, Hamster, let me translate:

"Hi, I'm Maccleoud, I'm back after two years. Where can I find some shmoe to make a snarky comment about where I posted, rather than addressing my actual post?"

Now do you see the question?
  24. I wouldn't bet on it out dpsing Every defender.

Hopefully with the new animation they can shave a few more seconds off of it. But that was kind of the problem, BaBs didn't want to be coming up with a bunch of new animations, since he's been busy with customization. So in fact they ended up using one of the ones he developed for customization.

I am not convinced that anything the set does in melee or with aoes is so good that it deserves to be saddled with Stone Spears and Hurl Boulder in their current form.

I wouldn't play the set as it is. Too many lousy powers: Spears, Hurl, Tremor and Pots.

The issue is entirely the animation being to long. The recharge and actual damage are fine. True for all 3: Spears, Hurl and Tremor.

Mud Pots seems pretty much completely pointless, as do all such powers for Doms.
